Some good tunes. Not my favorite talking heads record but no complaints.
Excellent stoner album.
A really nice album, even if Joni Mitchell generally isn’t my taste.
I’ve actually never listened to this one before but I definitely liked it. Will look to pick up a copy.
Love Leonard Cohen the poet. Can’t stand Leonard Cohen the musician.
It has a certain appeal but not really something I’ll gravitate towards very often.
Never been a big fan of Bjorks songs but listening to the album as a whole changed my perspective. I’d listen to this again.
Some nice renditions of some classic country western songs, sung by one of the great voices of our time. But this album is a net negative for both: it neither elevates the songs nor highlights the best of what Ray Charles can do. It was very one-note and way too restrained. Two stars.
Classic metal album. Fun listen.
I can see the vision and appreciate the execution but I’m just not a big enough fan of The Who to enjoy this particular album
I see why people like this record. He’s just a garbage human and his voice annoys me.
Super solid white stripes album. Not their best but no complaints.
Not much to say that hasn’t been said.
Not their best work but also nothing to complain about.
I grew up loving Dire Straits as my mom would always play their tapes in the car. “Brothers in Arms” is my preferred album, but this one is as solid as it gets. Wish I could do 3.5 stars.
In another version of this life, I’m a man in his mid 40s, in a band like Tortoise, getting ready to go on tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this record. I think this is what I would be doing if I had just kept on being in bands
Amazingly, this is the first time I’ve ever listened to this entire album. Outside of Bittersweet Symphony (which is easily a top 10 alternative song from the 90s), the rest of the album is … fine. Some nice musical elements but all in all it’s kind of boilerplate mid/late 90s brit pop alternative. Fine, no complaints. Just not going to be an album I put on very often. 3 stars.
Excellent live album. Sounds great, captures an artist at the height of their powers at a legendary venue with a hot crowd. Lots of fun to listen to.
Not something that I think is exactly for me, but there’s plenty to like here. “All Revved Up With No Place to Go” was fun. Always reminds me of my mom, which is nice.
I’ve got lots of love and appreciation for Joni Mitchell’s greatness, but I can really only enjoy it in small doses. This is good. It’s not “Blue”, though. Three stars.
“Promised you a Miracle” is a classic. I get it….. it’s not doin it for me. 2 stars.
Having a hard time coming up with reasons not to give this 5 stars. Probably a 4.5 but I’ll give it to Willie.
Solid, classic The Police. 3.5 stars. We will go three, because it leaves a little on the bone. .
Super cool album. Lots to like here, the weak points were pretty low for me. I’d listen to this again, but doesn’t feel essential to me. Bjork has won me over though, between this and “Debut”
It’s fun, chill to put on in the background if I’m cooking or something.
This is not my taste in metal. It’s getting 2 stars because there were a couple of songs that I didn’t hate. “This Cold Black” was alright
Absolutely perfect album to wake up to on a Friday. Zero flaws. 5 stars.
It’s fine. Good maybe. But not my cup of tea.
Love it! The album that introduced me to the joys of vinyl when I was 15. Still funky as hell.
Quite a trip down memory lane for me! I haven’t listened to Fatboy Slim much since high school but still enjoyed this. It’s sort of fun to listen to pre-“Weapon of Choice”, maximalist Fatboy Slim, it feels a bit more restrained in a way that makes it more enjoyable to sort of just put on in the background. Saving this to come back to. 3 stars.
Not my thing. Never really liked Spiritualized much. I can see what there is to like, but I can’t grab it.
Okay this one was better than the last Leonard Cohen record. “So Long, Marianne” is a good one. 3 stars
Six stars. Sheesh. This album was revolutionary at its time and today still sounds like it’s from another universe.
Hot Chip is one of those groups I am always really happy to listen to but just never cracked my regular rotation. I probably need to change that. They’ve got a familiar sound but with some unique traits that make it immediately identifiable as Hot Chip. This album has a couple lulls in it but that’s fine. 3 stars.
Sounds really repetitive and mostly uninteresting.
It’s good, definitely feels of its time. For the mid-aughts bratty Brit rock, I’d rather listen to The Cribs 10 times out of 10 but I don’t dislike this. 3 stars.
The title track does a lot of heavy lifting. But still a solid Bowie album. 3.5 stars. I’ll give it a 4.
Five fuckin stars. Perfect album. Sheesh.
This is possibly a 5 star record. I might be underselling it. There are only a few mid-level Pixies songs on here. The rest are some of their best work.
Another banger this week. Not my favorite Tribe record but it’s iconic in its own way and I can’t give it 3 stars.
Classic classic classic. An iconic crossover album for one of the most enduring, unique bands comprised of 4 masters of their craft. Awesome stuff to look back on. Album itself is a little bloated in spots, but it’s high points are super solid.
Outside of the hits, I’m just not an Elton John guy.
Solid. Always been a fan of “Oh, Yoko” and “Jealous Guy”
Enjoyable.
Second wave ska is always fun. Wish I could’ve heard more than three tracks. I’ll have to seek this out on CD
I’m teetering on 5 here. An all-time run of songs to open an album. Great production. Just a couple songs that don’t hit for me.
Classic, fun live album.
Absolutely unbearable.
A little rough around the edges, but you can see signs of where they were headed.
Right up my alley
Classic rock record. Bordering on 5.
I don’t understand Muse. Three guys all immensely talented at their instruments, can write really nice chord progressions, and yet their songs are absolutely meh. I don’t get it. 2 stars.
John Lydon is a prick but this album rules.
It was fun. Maybe not something I come back to a lot, but no complaints.
Fine. Pink Floyd was never my thing. I like it well enough but remain mostly underwhelmed.
I didn’t want to be obvious but I don’t see any flaws with this record.
While it certainly sounds “of its time” I think it does a great job perfectly encapsulating the creative pioneering that the confluence of technology and 90’s “anything goes” ethos, and in that respect, it holds up. For what it is, I can’t give it a 3, though it’s a 3.5. 4 stars it is.
Fun! I had never heard this band before. Nothing particularly revolutionary but certainly not something I disliked.
About as classic as it gets.
Confession time: I’m not a big fan of the early surfer beach boys stuff.
Sounds really dated and largely uninteresting to me.
I hate this album (but love this band). Impossible to listen to. 2 stars.
Enjoyable. Nothing that rocked my world though.
Solid, always a good listen.
Liked it more than I expected to.
Not something I’ll probably put on too often, but it’s it’s a solid, classic beginning-to-end rock and roll album.
So amazingly unremarkable.
I actually enjoyed a decent amount of this. Some fun instrumentation and production.
Verrrrrry close to a 5-star album. The chili peppers, more mature, with John Frusciante back is magic.
Not the first or last 5 star Radiohead record. This one grew on me later in my adult life, I didn’t love it when it came out but I’ve grown to appreciate it so much more now.
I’ve never been a big R.E.M. fan, and can’t say I’ve ever listened to this before, but I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Close to a 4 star, but not my favorite Elvis Costello album. It does have a couple of my favorite songs of his (Allison, Less than Zero)
I have never actually listened to this fo fear it would ruin Bob Dylan for me. And while I wouldn’t put it among his finest work it’s certainly much better than I had worried it would be. A few songs I quite liked.
Another almost 4 star. It’s got all of that Q-Tip magic but in the end, it comes off a bit like ATCQ leftovers, without the full charm.
About as strong of a debut album as a band could make. A real statement
I know I’m supposed to like this but it kind of underwhelmed me.
The best of Pavement
That’s a no
Pretty solid. Never really gave this one a full listen before.
