Doolittle by Pixies
Mar 20 2025

I read that a couple tracks were used as inspiration by Kurt Cobain to make “Smells like Teen Spirit”. It makes sense, Doolittle covers similar imagery that 90s grunge is centered around. Lots of guitar, drums, bass. Very standard alt-rock. Reminds me of Irish punk rock a little, maybe that makes sense since I read that these guys did better in Europe than America throughout the late 80s and 90s.

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Mar 21 2025

It’s interesting that Winthrop Sargeant didn’t really consider this music jazz. At the time, perhaps it took jazz in a whole new direction, but listening to it now, I know it as pretty textbook jazz music.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Mar 24 2025

This album has been called “frat-style hip-hop” and it’s also one of the first albums to turn sampling into an art of its own. But I feel like many of the songs blended together with a couple songs that stood out on their own

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Mar 25 2025

Maybe I was preoccupied but the music didn’t stand out to me.
