As a sucker for singer-songwriters, I appreciated the poetic & occasionally narrative songwriting and cottagecore arrangements, but found the vocals to be generic/monotonic.
Tracks to Track: Saturday Sun, Day Is Done, River Man
Probably has cultural/nostalgic impact, but would resonate with my angsty 13 year old self.
Tracks to Track: Crawling, In
Literally every song in this album is a banger - in the folksy sort of way.
Tracks to Track: Norwegian Wood, In My Life, Nowhere Man
Fela Kuti lived an amazing life that is worth knowing about. Afrobeat is unfortunately not for me though.
Tracks to Track: Zombie (not from this album)
Chill vibes that are easy to tune out.
Tracks to Track: Jesus, Etc.
Beautiful country album
Tracks to Track: El Paso, Billy the Kid
Couldn't have said it better than the other reviewer; "It's great. Then it's the same great for the next 6 songs." Likely a groundbreaking album that shifted the direction of music, but it's harder for the layperson to fully appreciate half a century later.
Tracks to Track: Tutti Frutti
Some songs were ok, but personally not a fan of the dirty lyrics.
Tracks to Track: Molly's Chambers, Red Morning Light
Glad to have discovered this country artist! Every song is gold.
Tracks to Track: Down by the River
So happy to have discovered this band! Beatles with an orchestral integration? Will definitely explore more of their music
Tracks to Track: Mr. Blue Sky
Hands down the best album I heard so far - just catapulted to one of my favorite albums ever! Her voice is amazingly eclectic and diverse, yet her album is somehow cohesively thematic. I need to listen to more Janelle Monáe!
Tracks to Track: Cold War, Tightrope, BaBopByeYa
Not knowledgeable enough in music production to explain why this sound rocks, but it does!
Tracks to track: Supernaut
I..just found it flat?
Tracks to Track: Paper Planes
Feels like jazz that even total noobs can appreciate. I loved it and will loop this album as study music.
Tracks to Track: Strange Meadow Lark
The first half was great, but stopped listening midway through Kim due to the disturbing content. The rhymes and production's great though.
Tracks to Track: The Real Slim Shady
Personally just not a fan of the country sound. Subtract an extra star due to the artist' controversies
Tracks to Track: Oh My Sweet Carolina
Nice but all songs sound the same
Tracks to Track: Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Sedated (from diff album)
Didn't realize the singer of Without You wasn't a one-hit wonder!
Tracks to Track: Gotta Get Up
Amazing Album
Tracks to Track: I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, With Or Without You
Pretty flat sounding with raunchy lyrics.
Tracks to Track: 5000 Miles West of the Future
I need to listen to more Smashing Pumpkins
Tracks to Track: Disarm
The first 2 songs were great, then it kinda fell off. Always a treat to discover new non Western artists though!
Tracks to Track: Papa bonheur, Desespoir
Just not a fan of rap and profanity I guess. Good beats overall.
Tracks to Track: AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted
A new ATCQ fan onboard!
Tracks to Track: Can I Kick It?
Pretty mid? Wasn't sure what to make of the last track taking up half of the entire album length.
Tracks to Track: Que Vida
chill instrumental beats to study to
Tracks to Track: Nights Introlude
just the type of indie folk singer-songwriter vibe that i love.
Tracks to Track: The Queen And The Solider, Small Blue Thing
Basic, but really fun and uplifting! Great to listen to his other songs.
Tracks to Track: No Surrender, Dancing In the Dark
It's the kind of album that needs proper attention paid to the lyrics. Amazing writing, but the sound feels a bit all over the place.
Tracks to Track: Here Comes the Flood, Solsbury Hill
Amazing from the first track.
Tracks to Track: Love's In Need Of Love Today etc (too many to list xD)
I didn't care for the vocals and the lyrics just didn't make much sense.
Tracks to Track: That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
Very fun sounding, especially in the first 2 tracks.
Tracks to Track: In my Mind, Riddle of the Eighties
Just discovered the shoegaze genre from this album! Not quite a fan though.
Tracks to Track: Seagull
comfy, classic and concise!
Tracks to Track: The Grand Tour
Songs from a shameless womanizer. Not sure how I feel about it.
Tracks to Track: Songs of Love, Becoming more like Alfie
Beautiful easy listening.
Tracks to Track: Wildflowers
Interesting since I don't listen to psychedelic much. The jug sound is unique.
Tracks to Track: Roller Coaster
Smooth and jazzy
Tracks to Track: Smooth Operator
Folk songs adapted from folk tales!
Tracks to Track: Matty Groves, Tam Lin
Listened to this right after Peter Gabriel's debut album and it blended right in. On the forgettable side for me but solid overall.
Tracks to Track: Grounds for Divorce
For some reason I liked his debut album better haha. But chill sounds and sound lyrics overall!
Tracks to Track: Horn (instrumental only xD)
I think this rating is just a reflection of personal aversion to rock.
Tracks to Track: Immigrant Song
very same sounding after (and even during) the first 2 songs
Tracks to Track: Pretty in Pink, Dumb Waiters
Interesting to know that the title translates to "White Reggae". Apparently I like watered down reggae.
Tracks to Track: Walking On The Moon
Depressing and droning to listen to, if that's your jam.
Tracks to Track: These Days
Perfect for the art critics types. Compelling concept in not so symphonic songs.
Tracks to Track: Comfortably Numb
The first half of this album is filled with catchy fun back to back singles. It kinda falls off in the second half, but rounding up.
Tracks to Track: Otherside
Fun and funky! Very Stevie Wonder inspired. Good find, drags on a bit though.
Tracks to Track: Too Young to Die
angsty and downright concerning lyrics
Tracks to Track: Hurt
a failed experiment?
Tracks to Track: White Light/White Heat
Easy soulful listening. Started strong but a bit forgettable for me overall.
Tracks to Track: So Many Sides of You
Can't believe I never heard of the King of soul before! I loved the live performance recordings!
Tracks to Track: Nothing Can Change This Love
Amazed that it's his 25TH album and he still hasn't ran out of creative juices! I feel like he has better albums than this though (which are hopefully also included in this list)
Tracks to Track: Where are We Now?
Interesting example of conscious rap, and the message aged unfortunately well. I find the lyrics a bit too on the nose though.
Tracks to Track: Satanic Reverses
surprisingly average sounding? though this album is full of iconic hits!
Tracks to Track: Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine
interesting introduction to qawwali. its the kind of music that improves upon relistening (or understanding the lyrics)
Tracks to Track: Haq Ali Ali Haq
Introspective, reflective lyrics even though I'm not a fan of 90s hip hop. It was an interesting experience but would not listen to it again.
Tracks to Track: Dear Mama
I loved the moody instrumental vibe of the entire album!
Tracks to Track: Pictures Of You, but they're all pretty solid
Surprisingly engaging ambient electro! William Orbit's really something.
Tracks to Track: Water from A Vine Leaf
I wanted to like it but I just couldn't get past the lack of melody. Bjork is definitely a talented and creative artist though.
Tracks to track: Human Behavior
Definitely meh.
Tracks to track: Fuzzy
I love the horns and gentle instrumentation & vocals. Quirky in the best way.
Tracks to Track: The Shining, Magic in the Air
really clueless about jazz but it sounds smooth and great for focus music.
Tracks to Track: Gloria's Step
Biggie has amazing rap skills, just not a fan of the genre (and the content)
Tracks to Track: Big Poppa
Would have rated this a 6 if I could! The first half has the stronger hit singles, but the rest aren't anything to sneeze at either.
Tracks to Track: Mr. Brightside, Somebody Told Me, All These Things That I've Done, Change Your Mind
This album absolutely deserves to be on the list to showcase Jeff's amazing vocals. Has a romantic sad boi vibes.
Tracks to Track: Hallelujah
A really solid disco album with upbeat vibes and positive (if not repetitve) lyrics.
Tracks to Track: Lost in Music, We Are Family
This album feels like a standard example of female country, with nothing standout. Extra star coz I'm biased to country music.
Tracks to Track: Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, Right In Time
I don't know why there's so much hate for this album but I liked it! Karma Chameleon was worth 10 stars, and there were a couple of songs in the latter half that made listening worth it.
Tracks to Track: Karma Chameleon, Stormkeeper, Church Of The Poison Mind
Very melodramatic? I liked the starting track but the rest droned on. I recognize Antonoff's signature production style, but maybe the lyrics just didn't carry for me?
Tracks to Track: Green Light
I'm probably uncultured and biased towards Western music for this but it felt like the filler music of The Lion King...I just didn't get it.
Tracks to Track: Unomathemba
I feel like I'm rating generously coz it's near Christmas, but one star for each of the 5 singles!
Tracks to Track: The Sun Always Shines on TV, Take on Me (duh), Hunting High And Low
Surprisingly good?! I should listen to more of their music.
Tracks to Track: Writing to Reach You
Amazing and iconic.
Tracks to Track: Billie Jean's my fave, but everything's gold
He has a great charming voice, I just find it kinda monotonous and dated I guess.
Tracks to Track: Cry To Me
Upbeat and authentic, it feels like the band is having fun. Maybe a bit basic sounding, but apparently they're on this list for their influence in glam metal.
Tracks to Track: Sailing Down the Tears
It was ok? Googling that it was a concept album really improved my opinion of it
Tracks to track: Australia
Really weird. Maybe I'm just not in the cool 90s kid target audience.
Tracks to Track: Dirty Boots
Got served with back-to-back Sonic Youth albums. This one was at least twice as good as Goo, so it gets double the stars.
Tracks to Track: Total Trash
Really cool to hear a British-Indian album! Only really like the hit single though - loved the meaning behind it.
Tracks to Track: Brimful of Asha
This is the kind of album that makes me rethink all the other 5 star-rated albums I have. Deserves its place as one of the greatest albums of all time.
Tracks to Track: You've Got a Friend, So Far Away, I Feel the Earth Move, Tapestry (but literally all songs are pure platinum)
I get this album's cultural significance but I just don't care for rap/hip-hop
Tracks to Track: C.R.E.A.M.
my fave taylor swift album. love the lyrics.
Tracks to Track: marjorie, champagne problems, long story short
A very very good punk album
Tracks to Track: London Calling
Quirky, with funky instrumentals and actually cohesive lyrics! I kinda preferred the more 'normal' alternative versions better though.
Tracks to Track: The Good Thing
floaty psychedelics~~
Tracks to Track: Shine A Light
rage, rage against the machine.
Tracks to Track: Know Your Enemy
Tracks to Track: Water Song/Janie's Got A Gun
I'm getting the charm of a live album but I just found everything..loud
Tracks to Track: I Can't Explain
Chill vibes and very pleasant silky voice
Tracks to Track: Come Away With Me
My first introduction to R.E.M. and its an automatic four for me!
Tracks to Track: Man On The Moon, Try Not to Breathe
It feels very generic and cheezy classic rock. But it's only 8 songs long with some standout tracks.
Tracks to Track: Highway Star
Amazing guitar and seemingly effortless rock. Dire Straights just got a new fan.
Tracks to Track: Walk of Life, Your Latest Trick, Why Worry
Surprisingly good rap! One of the more fun discoveries in this list.
Tracks to Track: Selfish, Sherbet Sunset
Funky and unpretentious
Track to Track: Cavaleiro Do Cavalo Imaculado
A bit intense to listen to (esp on headphones) but the concept and music is coherently unique! The lyrics are wild though.
Tracks to Track: Ineriartic Esp
