Gospel/chorus like. Very hypnotic. Good for concentration or just for background noise. Not for everyone! 3/5
Surprisingnly jazzy and chill. 4/5
Chill amongst other progressive rock bands. 3/5
Kinda cool, never heard the whole thing. Super immersive, and impeccable Chris Cornell voicings
An instant classic. Should be taught in schools. Groovy, soothing, pop-ish even. A must listen.
May result weird to non-accustomed listeners, some songs sound overly prog and/or experimental. However, contains some all-time classics, which makes it a balanced and entertained album! 4/5
Cool pop/rock mixture. Powerful voice and rhythms. A good sounding album overall, just not my type. 3/5
I thought I was going to be very bored, turned out I didn't, it's quite entertaining. I think I hear a notable production value, while Taylor's voice is impeccable. I don't really care much for the lyrics or the meaning in this one though.
Interesting British alt rock with an alternate singer....but It's nothing special, dunno why it made the list of the best 1001.
Psychedelic but that's it, nothing to remark. Some acid rock from the 80's
Impeccable. Illustrious combination of bossa nova and jazz. Would listen for hours
Definitively britpop, however has some weirdness about it that does not really heard on other groups. No wonder this guy went and created Gorillaz, heh, so much creativity.
Solid Rush representative, long songs, acute and strong vocals, crazy tempos, beautiful musical background.
Very niche, tribal rhythms that we are not used to. Very interesting and charming to listen to.
Enjoyed the songs, but not really impressed. I'd say pretty average rapper with a good production on the album, didn't know the name.
Instant classic. The correct dose of uppers and downers to leave you lying on your sofa, asking for more.
Radio material. Has potential but does not quite hit it out of the stadium.
Easy listening. Yet another of the greatest woman voices out there.
Fine for a 90's rap break. Not groundbreaking in any way, except maybe he's being all chill and sexy lyrics instead of "aggressive" like other rap acts.
Wouldn't put it as a must-listen.
Very sentimental, melodic music. Sweet and calm. Tho unsure if this belongs to the top 1001 albums
Electrifying as it should. Shake your head and let it go.
Appreciate the singing and the piano, though the whole album idea didn't resonate with me.
I dove blind and discovered an extremely exquisite piece of music. Unsure the technical playing is good or not, but the feelings it transmits are everything.
Definitively the kind of experience I joined this "challenge" for.
A cool album. Experimental I'd say, not a clearly defined sound, tho very reminiscing of 70/80's pop-rock. I'm biased because I like French.
Haven't heard much before, it's definitively washed-down rock. But has potential
Funky but could be better
Raw. Fast. A voice that wants to be heard
Refreshing rap in a language other than English.
Delightful jazz. Very cool indeed
Dark and reflective. Like and subscribe
Highly experimental, it's one of those albums that you have to listen in its entirety, like each song does not make sense on its own. Soothing, good company. It does not kick in immediately though, you have to be patient.
Pretty much standard Brit pop/rock. A manly voice whispering then shouting, piano/organ and some chimes and bells here and there. Not sure I heard something different or interesting here than a mix of a decade of soft rock/pop bands that are more significant.
Surrealistic and majestic. However, made me pretty sleepy, instead of compelling other interesting emotions like some other contemporary artists do.
Folk but also not so folk.
I really try but Bowie clicks differently to me, and this one didn't make it so far up my list
Quite experimental for a pop artist. Surprisingly good.
I think it's so musically complex that everyone should hear it at least one time. They later perfected much of the concepts they outline here.
Of course it lines up on the "metal"/"rock" side of the scale, but it's so creative. The message. The energy. No wonder they became such a big hit.
Chill band, guitar and voice like Oasis, but much less moving
Added to albums to clean the house or take a long shower to.
100% shamelessly singable
Sounds like Dad rock, but the boring type. Did not get the lyrics either. Should I?
A nice album with great production. Easy listening. I can see why it's so popular. However, U2 is not really my cup of tea
At the Drive-In, but slightly madder. Cool rhythms and overall attitude.
Real great album, the smooth grooves and the musical proficiency makes it for me.
Stupidly funk, entertaining and magical.
Arguably the second half is kind of a B-side collection, but who cares if you vibe to it.
It's still quality pop, but somehow not at the level I expected. Lacks the "happiness" of other Beach Boys albums. That's not necessarily bad, but I wanted to hear some Beach Boys :)
Don't let the motherfuckin vampires in
Ska vibes? Soul vibes? Interesting mix.
Singer could be better.
Easy listening, but a filler album for sure.
Great country-rock melodies! So talented, so short-lasting...
Ahhh I'm a sucker for progressive stuff.
Great voice, just not an enticing genre or album to me at all :(
Nice and chill, a couple classics in there too!
Not as polished as they eventually became, but their defining style is definitively there!
Hey Ya + other 20 unoriginal songs
Interesting interpretation and story behind the songs. Touching, but didn't make me feel anything musically-wise other than respect for the singer and the composer.
Just anothe garage rock band
Interesting british Punkish album. Nothing out of the ordinary tho, lacks a better signer or destacable instrumentals. Or understandable lyrics :D
You may like it or not, but it's clearly something else.
If you have a minimal appreciation for jazz, it's superb.
Drunk voicing, not so amusing. Great production and overall concept tho
Ohhh baby baby it's a wild album
Still one of the best bands to take a reflective nap to .
Classic rock, with a couple songs that can't be missed. There's much psychedelics in the air, but the recording quality is sadly not the best, in comparison with other records of the same era.
Starts very groovy but becomes very heavy towards the end, maybe has to do with the track lengths? Great production tho, can see why it influenced soul so much
Makes me wanna reach for my surfboard and go chase some waves.
I don't own a surfboard. I don't know how to surf.
Charming and full of energy. Gets to the point really, as every punk record should.
Up a point for its influence on the movement and music in general.
Sick tunes and attitude. The correct type of appetite if you wanna be a rock star
Mom: No son, we have opera at home
The opera we have at home:
What we thought was the future of techno!
Very conceptual album, love it.
Armonious and very chill guitarist. Perhaps too chill...
Some songs are pretty good, but the album overall feels bland. Is it famous because of its ties to Bob Dylan?
Some power tunes to cheer you up and hit the gym! Or the aerobics class!
The original careless, upfront, cheeky punk attitude and sound
Some tunes to blast in your garage.
But then again, you could blast some better tunes all the same.
Cool instrumental/experimental/abstract hip hop. Sit back and chill
The songs are melancholic enough, but nothing really stands out. The breathy vocals don't work for me
No wonder Mr Schneebly shares this album with Mr Cool! 10/10
Totally climatic, full of details and very entertaining. The rhythms are hypnotic, percussion is subtle and powerful. A very enjoyable first listen to this album, a new favorite !
Sweet voice and tunes. Sounds very NYC folk, as some would say. Just not my cup of tea
Not a hip-hop connoisseur, but I really enjoyed the style. Also given that I enjoy Eminem, I can see the Dre production value and where it's coming from.
Nice quality - have my doubts about some of the vocal deliveries, but a nice album overall. Just maybe not one of the 1001 to listen before you die.
Very imaginative, upfront punk vibe, I can feel how it would inspire generations to come. I'd need a few more listens to really set in.
Rap, hip-hop, samples, white boys screaming, catchy melodies and a lot of scratching. I'm in.
Plus, Sabotage is probably the best introductory song to any stage act, ever.
Bland early glam metal / soft punk. Probably inspiration for some, otherwise shouldn't be in the 1001 listens before you die.
Powerful country music, voicings and guitar are superb
Instant classic, every song is a mellow hymn
Da de di do Dusty. Good but not great, covers album.
Love the ideas and rhythms explored in the album. Not really know if they really pioneered or created something new in the scene. But really liked the grooves and could enjoy the whole album without noticing the pass of time.
Jack White's guitar sound is as impressive as ever. More "calmer" songs in this album, but I loved the overall feeling.
Respect the handmade sound and the honesty. However, sounds just like any other good singer-writer you'd meet at your local pub. I don't see any originality or relevance
After reading some of the recommendations to go back and listen to some other albums by JL Hooker, I can tell this one does not really belong here, given his fruitful career. Still a good blues album, though.
