Parts of this are so compelling lyrically. A stirring declaration of an artist's identity, rejection of the contrived image that had been created for him (and by him). I'm afraid I just find the songs themselves dull. Would I listen to it again? Probably not. 2.5 rounded up to 3

Never liked The Doors

It didn't age very well.

Fine but not for me

I'm really drawn to Ian Curtis' voice. What a tragedy he didn't have more time. Having said that it, I didn't connect with the songs. 3

I think of Eno more as a producer. Given my dislike of techno, I assumed I wouldn't like it. I was wrong. This is good.

First rap group I heard. It was like having a secret portal to a community I would never belong to--though the casual misogyny bothered me I loved the experience.

I remember loving 99.9 F⁰ but I don't remember much about this one. Love the imaginative/introspective lyrics.

Lovely voice. I don't know that I'd call it soul but it's enjoyable to listen to. Maybe a bit pedestrian for me? 3.5

I bought this based on reviews when it came out. I didn't like it so i was completely blindsided listening it today and loving it.

Love her voice obviously but some of these songs aren't good. Hearing her sing covers of better songs than these is such a treat.

Oh yay another problematic dude to rate. Even if I could separate art from artist, this is unpleasant vocally. Musically ok. Just too much shrieking for me.

Why the completely unnecessary cover of Freddy's Dead? that really annoyed me. I do like a band with a horn section though.

Not my thing

not as bad as I remembered but Axl's inststence on adding extra "ay-ay-ays" onto most words ending in y eg "cry-ay-ay, sky-ay-ay" got on my nerves. I can only say: goodbye-ay-ay

Saw him in concert in 1981 (?). Didn't really like synth pop then or now to be honest. It's clearly influential and innovative but not for me. 2.5 rounded up.

I enjoyed this

I love The Flaming Lips. Beautiful songs about life and death and a young woman fighting evil robots. Not my favourite of theirs but I'm giving it a 5 anyway.

I don't like synth pop and I hated what I'd heard from Pet Shop Boys. Shocked how much I liked this. Almost a 4

Dentist waiting room music? Honestly something about Billy Joel has always rubbed me the wrong way. Some of the lyrics strike me as judgemental.

Tom Waits always transports me to a new world. I just love the straightforward poetry of his songs: The kids can't get ice cream 'cause the market burned down All the doughnuts have names names that sound like prostitutes (not this album just one of my favourites) I get why people can't get past his raspy voice but the cover versions of his songs are never as good.
