Popular Reviews

461 Ocean Boulevard by Eric Clapton

tried to separate the art from the artist but failed. The music isnt awful but the artist is. I'm holding that against him.

The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan

Saw him in concert in 1981 (?). Didn't really like synth pop then or now to be honest. It's clearly influential and innovative but not for me. 2.5 rounded up.

All Ratings (128)

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Dec 31 2025

Probably 3.5 rounded up to 4

Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Jan 01 2026

liked it but not really a jazz fan. still 4 stars

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Jan 06 2026

Haven't heard it since I was very young. surprised how well it's held up.

Suede by Suede
Jan 07 2026

I like this. very pleasant listening experience. 4 stars

The Man Machine by Kraftwerk
Jan 11 2026

Not for me. Electronic music makes me feel anious. I can absolutely appreciate the skill required to create this but not something I'd choose to listen to. 2 stars

The New Tango by Astor Piazzolla
Jan 14 2026

Its good. just not my thing 3 stars

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jan 15 2026

Parts of it are lovely and parts are chaotic. the chaotic parts made me feel anxious. I feel terrible about lowballing a classic but 3 stars from me.

Is This It by The Strokes
Jan 17 2026

was just ok. I remember really liking it when it first came out though. 3stars

Jan 19 2026

I know this is good quality music but I didnt enjoy it. 2 stars

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Jan 21 2026

love Radiohead though this isn't my favourite. It really is great on a long drive. At least 4.

Guero by Beck
Jan 24 2026

loved it. 5

Jan 25 2026

Parts of this are so compelling lyrically. A stirring declaration of an artist's identity, rejection of the contrived image that had been created for him (and by him). I'm afraid I just find the songs themselves dull. Would I listen to it again? Probably not. 2.5 rounded up to 3

Happy Sad by Tim Buckley
Jan 26 2026

compelling voice. interesting arrangements. ultimately not for me

Green by R.E.M.
Jan 27 2026

i do love REM 4?

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Jan 29 2026

This is ok. Not a fan of the band or of heavy metal generally but its easier to listen to than I expected. 3 stars

Van Halen by Van Halen
Jan 31 2026

It didn't age very well.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Feb 02 2026

It's better than I expected,

Feb 04 2026

i wanted to like this but I didn't. Maybe it hasn't aged well? Maybe it's just me.

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Feb 07 2026

I'm really drawn to Ian Curtis' voice. What a tragedy he didn't have more time. Having said that it, I didn't connect with the songs. 3

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Feb 08 2026

Ok but didn't love it as much as the Nico one 3.5 rounded down to 3.

Eagles by Eagles
Feb 10 2026

Some good familiar tunes, but a lot was pretty boring. 3

Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Feb 16 2026

Just not a fan of techno. Didn't hate as much as the Kraftwerk earlier but it's also gettin a 2

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Feb 17 2026

A couple of big well-known songs but I found a lot of this album sort of boring. Sorry. 3

At Budokan by Cheap Trick
Feb 18 2026

i never liked Cheap Trick but thiswas better than I remembered. 3

Feb 19 2026

I think of Eno more as a producer. Given my dislike of techno, I assumed I wouldn't like it. I was wrong. This is good.

Real Life by Magazine
Feb 20 2026

Clever lyrics, good melodies, good music but for me it was sometimes derailed by annoying repitition (lyrics, electronic sounds) 3

Feb 21 2026

First rap group I heard. It was like having a secret portal to a community I would never belong to--though the casual misogyny bothered me I loved the experience.

Suzanne Vega by Suzanne Vega
Feb 22 2026

I remember loving 99.9 F⁰ but I don't remember much about this one. Love the imaginative/introspective lyrics.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Feb 23 2026

Lovely voice. I don't know that I'd call it soul but it's enjoyable to listen to. Maybe a bit pedestrian for me? 3.5

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Feb 24 2026
Either Or by Elliott Smith
Feb 25 2026

I loved his music

Sex Packets by Digital Underground

its seems pretty dated but it must have seemed cutting edge in 1990. anyway its fine

Chris by Christine and the Queens
Feb 27 2026

Love their voice

Elephant by The White Stripes
Feb 28 2026

such a fun album 4

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Mar 03 2026

I bought this based on reviews when it came out. I didn't like it so i was completely blindsided listening it today and loving it.

Kenza by Khaled
Mar 04 2026

I don't hate it but I doubt I'd listen to it again

Moon Safari by Air
Mar 12 2026

Though I don't usually like electronica, the dream-like quality of the songs won me over. 3

461 Ocean Boulevard by Eric Clapton
Mar 14 2026

tried to separate the art from the artist but failed. The music isnt awful but the artist is. I'm holding that against him.

Mar 15 2026

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Mar 16 2026

It was ok. I didn't love it

More Specials by The Specials
Mar 18 2026

Loved them when I was younger but now they seem too twee.

Fromohio by fIREHOSE
Mar 20 2026

Surprised by how much I liked it

Hot Fuss by The Killers
Mar 24 2026

I enjoyed this but not enough. Probably a 3.5.

Blue by Joni Mitchell
Mar 28 2026

Of course I heard this was a classic but Id never listened to it. Loved it. Somtimes her high notes felt pretty shrill to be but nevertheless--5

Back To Black by Amy Winehouse
Mar 29 2026

Love her voice obviously but some of these songs aren't good. Hearing her sing covers of better songs than these is such a treat.

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
Mar 30 2026

Oh yay another problematic dude to rate. Even if I could separate art from artist, this is unpleasant vocally. Musically ok. Just too much shrieking for me.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Mar 31 2026

Lovely

Exit Planet Dust by The Chemical Brothers
Apr 01 2026

Didn't hate but the repetition drove me crazy. 2.5 rounded down

Truth And Soul by Fishbone
Apr 02 2026

Why the completely unnecessary cover of Freddy's Dead? that really annoyed me. I do like a band with a horn section though.

Cross by Justice
Apr 03 2026

Not my thing

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Apr 05 2026

not as bad as I remembered but Axl's inststence on adding extra "ay-ay-ays" onto most words ending in y eg "cry-ay-ay, sky-ay-ay" got on my nerves. I can only say: goodbye-ay-ay

Slipknot by Slipknot
Apr 06 2026

I didn't hate it as much as I expected but it mostly made me feel anxious. I understand the appeal and some of the songs are good. Im just the wrong audience.

Brothers by The Black Keys
Apr 07 2026

It didn't feel very genuine to me like they're putting on a persona.

Timeless by Goldie
Apr 08 2026

Made me feel like grinding my teeth. So basically not for me. Appreciate the skill required to create this music but I'm the wrong listener for this.

Tago Mago by Can
Apr 19 2026

I liked this but not sure I'd listen again.

Play by Moby
Apr 21 2026

Didn't love it when it first came out but it's grown on me. closer to 4 than 5 for me today.

The Pleasure Principle by Gary Numan
Apr 22 2026

Saw him in concert in 1981 (?). Didn't really like synth pop then or now to be honest. It's clearly influential and innovative but not for me. 2.5 rounded up.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Apr 24 2026

I love The Flaming Lips. Beautiful songs about life and death and a young woman fighting evil robots. Not my favourite of theirs but I'm giving it a 5 anyway.

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Apr 25 2026

Delightful

Moondance by Van Morrison
Apr 26 2026

Some lovely songs here but some cringey lyrics and Van Morrison's descent into weird conspiracy theories makes it a 3

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Apr 28 2026

Liked it but some blah songs.

Synchronicity by The Police
Apr 30 2026

some good, some less good. some of the songs seemed too high pitched for Sting's voice. I'd give it a 3 but I went to a Police concert once and Sting was really arrogant so 2

Very by Pet Shop Boys
May 01 2026

I don't like synth pop and I hated what I'd heard from Pet Shop Boys. Shocked how much I liked this. Almost a 4

Sincere by Mj Cole
May 04 2026

some of this is really ok but the repetition made me want to claw my ears off. So much repetition....

The Man Who by Travis
May 07 2026

Pleasant. liked it.

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
May 08 2026

I don't hate the music but it's a bit retro for me. Rita Lee was a wonderful singer and political force.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
May 20 2026

Ok but not sure I'll listen again

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
May 22 2026

listened to FM radio in the 80s when all the djs raved about him. I didn't get it at the time but was pleasantly surprised

Ingenue by k.d. lang
May 29 2026

I might be a terrible Canadian but I found this kind of boring. Beautiful voice, pleasant songs but a bit meh.

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
May 31 2026

Pleasant and yet really boring. It would make good music to put on while cooking or cleaning out closets.

Ys by Joanna Newsom
Jun 03 2026

I used to love this one but not so much today. Rounding up to 4 because I love her voice and the uniqueness of it.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jun 10 2026

Dentist waiting room music? Honestly something about Billy Joel has always rubbed me the wrong way. Some of the lyrics strike me as judgemental.

Country Life by Roxy Music
Jun 12 2026

Wow. I did not like this. Nothing worked for me except Phil Manzanera's guitar which was pretty great. Not great enough to make me listen again.

Document by R.E.M.
Jun 13 2026

I do love REM 4.5 rounded up

Swordfishtrombones by Tom Waits
Jun 14 2026

Tom Waits always transports me to a new world. I just love the straightforward poetry of his songs: The kids can't get ice cream 'cause the market burned down All the doughnuts have names names that sound like prostitutes (not this album just one of my favourites) I get why people can't get past his raspy voice but the cover versions of his songs are never as good.
