Popular Reviews

Ys by Joanna Newsom

Can't say I've heard much music that sounds like this. Not entirely sure what she's on about most of the time but instrumentally, this is one of the most beautiful things I've heard in a while.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath

Not my favourite album of theirs but early Sabbath is pretty much always great. Some weird experiments on here which hold this back from being better but the best songs on here absolutely fucking rip.

The Chronic by Dr. Dre

A landmark hip hop album. Despite some poorly aged lyrical content and some questionable interludes I think this has actually aged quite well. The production on here is absolutely fantastic, with Dre providing beats that perfectly balance being funky and hard hitting at the same time. In terms of rapping, id say Snoop is easily the star of the show in that regard, as he provides some fantastic verses on basically every song he's on, especially on Nuthin but a G Thing and Lil Ghetto Boy. There's a few other great performances across the album from The Lady of Rage, RBX and Dre himself but Snoop was just on a different level here. I do have one complaint about this album and that's that the second half doesn't hold a candle to the first. There's still a fair amount of good tracks to be found there but a lot of them are broken up by interludes and don't back the punch of the first half which was literally just great song after great song. For the most part though, I really enjoyed this album, perhaps a bit more than I expected to as well. Fantastic production, great rapping across the board and a few incredible songs which stand as some of my favourites in the entire genre. Fav Songs: Nuthin But A G Thing, Lil Ghetto Boy, Deeez Nuuuts, Let Me Ride, Fuck Wit Dre Day Least Fav: The Doctor's Office 9.0/10

At Budokan by Cheap Trick

Wasn't sure how much I'd get out of a live album from a band I'd never heard of before but I ended up having a very good time with this. Super infectious, high energy rock music which is simple but works super well in this setting. Not sure I'd put this in the conversation for best live album ever, but this is still pretty great nonetheless. Fav Songs: Surrender, Need Your Love, I Want You To Want Me, Clock Strikes Ten Least Fav: Goodnight 8.4/10

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees

Didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did but this was really good. Super tight gothicy post punk that slowly gets darker the further you progress into the album. I'd say i enjoyed the second half more than the first but this album is still ultra consistent and pretty much every song here is great. Fav Songs: Night Shift, Head Cut, Monitor, Voodoo Dolly Least Fav: Into The Light 9.2/10

This is far from my favourite Floyd album but this is still as iconic as it is for a reason. Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Mar 09 2026

Nick Cave is an artist who I've always heard really good things about but have never gotten around to checking out. I was a little weary of the length of this going in with this being 17 songs long over 2 discs and over 80 minutes in length, but after listening to this I can safely say that it more than earns that runtime. I think that mainly comes down to both sides of the album being so different sonically, so I didn't have a chance to get tired of the album's sound before it moved into something completely different. Abattoir Blues is the first and the louder side of the album, being made up of 9 anthemic, bluesy alt rock songs with super catchy choruses and a lot of gospel-esque backing vocals. I wasn't too familiar with Nick Cave's style going into this but I loved his vocals here, and I thought he brought so much character and personality to all of these songs, even the ones towards the end which didn't hit as hard instrumentally. The Lyre Of Orpheus is the second disc and far softer in its sound than the first disc, with a huge focus on acoustic guitar and keys. I thought this was a bit more consistent than the first side, even if I thought that Abattoir Blues had the higher highs. Some of the album's lyrical highlights are found on this side too, with the song "The Lyre Of Orpheus" being a huge highlight for me, showing off Nick's ability to tell an engaging story throughout a song whilst not sacrificing any of the charm or catchiness found on the other songs on the album. Overall, while I didn't know what to expect from this going in, I came out of this loving a majority of what I heard. While there are a few songs that don't hit as hard as others, I thought pretty much every track here brought something interesting to the table and despite the lengthy runtime, I thought this actually flew by and didn't drag at all. This definitely has me interested in checking out more from Nick Cave, because this was pretty fucking amazing. Fav Songs: There She Goes My Beautiful World, O Children, Get Ready For Love, The Lyre Of Orpheus Least Fav: Fable of the Brown Ape 9.1/10

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Mar 13 2026

I'm a bit conflicted on this one. I'd say I enjoyed this a lot and the best songs here are amazing but I can't imagine that this is something I'll return to frequently. Most of that is down to the fact that this is a very slow album with extremely personal and heavy lyrical content, inspired by the untimely death of Nick Cave's son. Because of that, this isn't exactly something that I'm gonna be itching to throw on even if the music here is very good.

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
Mar 16 2026

I think they would go on to perfect this sound on their later albums, but I think this perfectly lays out the foundation for what metal music would become. Some absolutely fantastic tracks on here with the title track and N.I.B in particular still standing up there as two of the best songs in the entire genre. The other songs here are all varying degrees of good but there's nothing here that matches the heaviness of those two. This is far from my favourite album from these guys but this is still a super impressive debut that holds up against most of what modern metal has to offer. Fav Songs: N.I.B, Black Sabbath, Warning, Evil Woman Least Fav: Sleeping Village 8.8/10

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Mar 17 2026

Another one of those album's that I like but would never really return to unless I put it on in the background. In order to fully appreciate this you need to really pay attention and that's not something I want to do all the time while listening to music. The musicality on display here is otherworldly and there are a number of songs here that I found to be quite hypnotising but I think because of it's length and quite demanding nature, this isn't going to be something I'll fully re-listen to again even though I do think this is pretty great. Fav Songs: Miles Runs The Voodoo Down, Pharaoh's Dance, Spanish Key Least Fav: John McLaughlin 8.1/10

Everything Must Go by Manic Street Preachers
Mar 18 2026

This was good but I can't say I fully loved this. I was more of a fan of the more stripped back songs than I was the ones with the more symphonic production. The vocals were also a bit iffy at points. They were mostly pretty good but on a few tracks they did kinda grate on me a bit. Wouldn't return to this in full, but there are a number of tracks here that I would definitely go back to individually. Fav Songs: Australia, Enola/Alone, Kevin Carter, Interiors Least Fav: Small Black Flowers That Grow In The Sky 7.4/10

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Mar 19 2026

I don't think this is ever gonna be my style of music but I can respect this more some other albums in this style because at least Richard has a unique voice that brings a lot of energy to all these tracks. This still has all the problems that i have other early rock n roll albums have with a lot of the songs here sounding very similar or the exact same in some cases and I'll literally never return to this but I can appreciate the vocal talent on display here and see why this is as influential of an album as it is.

Mar 20 2026

A solid album. The title track is the clear highlight here. It's a song that I'm pretty sure everyone has heard a million times before but that's because it is just a genuinely great, catchy pop song. There's some other solid songs here, especially in the first half but nothing comes close to the quality of that song. I wouldn't return to this in full, but I still think this is quite good overall. Fav Songs: Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Wrap It Up, Love Is A Stranger, This City Never Sleeps Least Fav: Somebody Told Me 7.0/10

Mar 23 2026

Fav Songs: Ex-Factor, Doo Wop (That Thing), Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, When It Hurts So Bad, Lost Ones, To Zion Least Fav: Nothing Even Matters 9.5/10

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Mar 24 2026

I had never heard of this band or this album before, so I'm surprised at how much I loved this. Super high energy and endlessly catchy all throughout with only one song that I can say I didn't fully enjoy. Alright is the clear standout here for me, I had actually heard that somewhere before but had never actually known the name of it until now which is a mistake on my part because it is a genuinely fantastic song. Every other track here though is also very good though, with the exception of We're Not Supposed To, which tbf, doesn't sound like it was made with the intention of being taken seriously anyway. Overall though, this was a surprisingly great album that really took me by surprise. Idk if I'll check out anything else from this band but I'll definitely be returning to this a lot. Fav Songs: Alright, I'd Like To Know, Mansize Rooster, Lose It Least Fav: We're Not Supposed To 8.8/10

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Mar 25 2026

This is the second Miles I've listened to for this project. While I enjoyed the, at times, hypnotic improvisation on Bitches Brew, I found myself enjoying this one far more. This isn't as demanding of a listen as that album as this one offers a much calmer atmosphere with much more digestible compositions. Jazz is still a genre that I don't fully get yet, but this is definitely the most I've ever enjoyed a jazz album before and I can definitely see this growing on me with repeated listens. Fav Songs: So What, Blue In Green, Freddie Freeloader Least Fav: idk 9.3/10

The Chronic by Dr. Dre
Mar 26 2026

A landmark hip hop album. Despite some poorly aged lyrical content and some questionable interludes I think this has actually aged quite well. The production on here is absolutely fantastic, with Dre providing beats that perfectly balance being funky and hard hitting at the same time. In terms of rapping, id say Snoop is easily the star of the show in that regard, as he provides some fantastic verses on basically every song he's on, especially on Nuthin but a G Thing and Lil Ghetto Boy. Hejira by Joni Mitchell
Mar 27 2026

Joni Mitchell is another one of those critically acclaimed artists that I've never really checked out until now. That was clearly a huge mistake on my part because this was pretty great. I can see why some people may not have liked this because of how repetitive and minimalistic the instrumentation is here, but I think that allowed for greater emphasis on Joni's incredible songwriting. A lot of the songs here a pretty dense lyrically, but thought they were able to paint a lot of really vivid imagery that kept me interested in these songs even despite the lengthy nature of some of them. I do think this album is a bit too repetitive at points and there's a song or two on here that do overstay their welcome slightly but overall, I still very much enjoyed this. Fav Songs: Coyote, Hejira, Song for Sharon, Blue Motel Room Least Fav: Furry Sings the Blues 8.6/10

Born In The U.S.A. by Bruce Springsteen
Mar 30 2026

Great pop rock album. Most of the songs here do sound kinda similar but i didn't mind it too much. Loved the contrast between the super up beat sound of the songs and the lyrics which are mostly about how much life in America sucks. Can't imagine i'd return to the whole album in full but individually, these songs are great and there's definitely a good number that I will be returning to. Fav Songs: No Surrender, Dancing In The Dark, Born In The U.S.A, Cover Me Least Fav: Working on the Highway 8.0/10

OK Computer by Radiohead
Mar 31 2026

Obviously this is incredible. I've heard this album numerous times before and I've pretty much always considered it to be incredible. This time was no different. Granted, this isn't my favourite Radiohead album, I'm much more of a Kid A guy personally, but the amount of fantastic songs on here is just absolutely insane. Karma Police, Paranoid Android, Let Down, No Surprises, the list just goes on and even the lesser famous tracks like Lucky and Climbing Up The Walls are just as good too. I do have a few small issues with this, like how Thom's singing can be maybe a bit too melodramatic at points and how the overall message of the album is maybe not as impactful now given some of the statements made by some of the band members in years since, but musically this album is still phenomenal and deserves all of the praise that it gets. Fav Songs: Paranoid Android, Karma Police, Let Down, No Surprises, Subterranean Homesick Alien, Exit Music (For A Film) Least Fav: Electioneering (still a great song) 9.6/10

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Apr 01 2026

Lenny Kravitz has like 2 good songs and neither of them are on this album. No idea why this is even on the list tbh because you really wouldn't be missing out on anything if you never listened to this. There's two OK songs here but a majority of this was impressively boring.

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Apr 02 2026

This fucking bangs and that's all there is to it. Sometimes music really is just that simple.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Apr 03 2026

Another great jazz album. They apparently do some interesting stuff with time signatures on this but I couldn't really care less about that stuff if the music doesn't sound good. Thankfully, the music here is great. Very chill sounding and the instrumental work here always managed to keep me engaged, even if I did think this got a little samey towards the end.

Dummy by Portishead
Apr 06 2026

I'm more of a Massive Attack guy than I am a Portishead guy but this is still no doubt a great album. Some of the songs here do sound maybe a bit too samey at points but this is still a very good listen overall with some absolutely ridiculous highs on it. Fav Songs: Glory Box, Roads, Wandering Star, Sour Times Least Fav: Numb 8.8/10

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Apr 07 2026

Didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did but this was really good. Super tight gothicy post punk that slowly gets darker the further you progress into the album. I'd say i enjoyed the second half more than the first but this album is still ultra consistent and pretty much every song here is great. Fav Songs: Night Shift, Head Cut, Monitor, Voodoo Dolly Least Fav: Into The Light 9.2/10

Make Yourself by Incubus
Apr 08 2026

Some good 90s alt rock. Does sound a bit dated at times but some of the production and instrumental choices set this one apart from other albums in this vain. Fav Songs: Drive, When It Comes, Stellar, Pardon Me Least Fav: I Miss You 7.8/10

Rust In Peace by Megadeth
Apr 09 2026

If it's riffs you want then it's riffs you're gonna get with this album. Vocals are a bit crap but what can you do. They're not the main focus here so they didn’t take much away from this for me. Fav Songs: Holy Wars...The Punishment Due, Tornado Of Souls, Hangar 18 Least Fav: Dawn Patrol 9.2/10

Master Of Puppets by Metallica
Apr 10 2026

I mean come on. This was the first metal album I ever heard and even to this day it stands as one of my favourites. Great riffs here as you'd expect from a thrash album but it's the song structures and songwriting that sets this apart from other albums within the genre. A lot of these song are very lengthy and progressive with a lot of extended instrumental sections that are really well crafted. Lyrically this album touches on a lot of things, whether that be drug addiction, mental illness, war and, of course, Cthulu. Despite the varying topics of all of these songs, none of them feel out of place and are all well written and respectful to the subjects they relate to. There's also not a bad song on here either. With only 8 tracks they couldn't really afford to miss so they went all out on every single one. Even my least favourite song here could probably stand as the best track if you were to put it on any other album. I can't really say enough good things about this honestly. Some of the best, most replayable metal music you're ever likely to hear and one of my favourite albums of all time regardless of genre. Fav Songs: All of them but specifically Master Of Puppets, Disposable Heroes, Battery and Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Least Fav: none but if I had to pick, probably The Thing That Should Not Be 9.7/10

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Apr 13 2026

Glad to see some LCD on this list. Say what you want about them now but that initial 3 album run is absolutely generational and this is easily the best record to come out of that. This is quite possibly the best mix of dance, rock and electronic music that there's ever been. Every single song here is great and there's a few which are among the best songs I've ever heard. I love how varied this album is too, with there being a strong mix of the endlessly groovy danceable tracks like Time To Get Away, Us v Them and Get Innocuous and the slower and more introspective songs like Someone Great and All My Friends. Despite the lengthy run times of some of these songs I never found myself bored or ready for them to end. One thing I've noticed when listening to LCD, especially on their first 3 albums, is that they're able to craft these really long songs that just lock you into a catchy groove for 7 or 8 minutes and they do that multiple times across this album on some of the best tracks. Overall, I think this album is basically almost flawless. There's perhaps one song here that's not as good as the rest but this album is so consistently phenomenal outside of that, that i don't think it's too big of a deal. A near perfect album for the most part and one of my favourites ever. Fav Songs: All, but specifically All My Friends, Someone Great, New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down, Time To Get Away and North American Scum Least Fav: None but if had to pick, Sound of Silver 9.8/10

B-52's by The B-52's
Apr 14 2026

This was fun as hell. Super weird but never in a way that felt overbearing or forced and several absolutely banging songs too. Fav Songs: Rock Lobster, Lava, 6060-842, Hero Worship Least Fav: Downtown 8.6/10

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
Apr 15 2026

A very simple but enjoyable folk record. Baez's dynamic voice is easily the star of the show here and I thought the stipped back acoustic instrumentals served as a pleasant backdrop for her singing. This does get a little bit samey as it goes on, but I never really got bored of the sound of which is quite impressive considering this is basically just 40 minutes of a woman and her guitar. Fav Songs: Fare Thee Well, House Of The Rising Sun, All My Trials, Silver Dagger Least Fav: Little Moses 8.4/10

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Apr 16 2026

This was great. Good mix of jazz, folk and pop with some obviously brilliant songwriting. I did think this was a bit all over the place when it came to the sound and I definitely preferred the poppier songs to the more stripped back ones but I still think this is s great album for the most part and I could definitely see it growing on me with more listens. Fav Songs: Car on a Hill, Help Me, Raised on Robbery, Free Man in Paris Least Fav: The Same Situation 8.3/10

Apr 17 2026

I've listened to a lot of great jazz albums for this project but this one is definitely my favourite. For as much as I love the chill, lowkey sound of a Kind Of Blue or a Time Out, the loud, chaotic nature of this album is really what grabbed me about this, and what set it apart from other jazz projects that I've heard. The playing here is otherworldly too, with constant changes in tempo and time signature which keeps things interesting across the lengthy runtimes of some of these songs. Even though I'm still new to jazz, I had a really great time with this and with more time, I could definitely see myself enjoying this one a lot more than I already do. Fav Songs: All Least Fav: N/A 9.5/10

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Apr 20 2026

So fucking good. That Lady and Summer Breeze are the clear standouts here but all of these songs are funky as fuck. I definitely have to listen to more of the Isleys because everything I've heard from them is absolutely top notch stuff. Fav Songs: That Lady, Summer Breeze, Sunshine (Go Away Today), What It Comes Down To Least Fav: If You Were There (Still a very good song) 9.3/10

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Apr 21 2026

Can't say I'm too familiar with the work of the Doors, but I really liked this. Pretty straight forward blues/psychedelic rock, carried by Jim Morrison's iconic voice. I'd say that the second half is definitely a lot weaker than the first but I dont think there was a song here that i outright hated. A pretty strong album overall, even though I'm sure this is far from this bands best. Fav Songs: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting For The Sun, You Make Me Real, Blue Sunday Least Fav: The Spy 8.3/10

Tellin’ Stories by The Charlatans
Apr 22 2026

Incredibly generic britpop. Why would I listen to this when I could just listen to the Stone Roses? Some OK tunes on this but most of this fell pretty flat for me.

Bandwagonesque by Teenage Fanclub
Apr 23 2026

Good shit lads. If only some of the other britpop albums on this list were as good as this. Favs: The Concept, Star Sign, Alcoholiday, December Least Fav: Guiding Star 8.4/10

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Apr 27 2026

Absolutely fantastic record. Lyrically, this perhaps does get a bit stale as it goes on with most of the songs here being about love or heartbreak (with one very notable exception), but that's literally the only complaint I have about this honestly. Instrumentally, this is quite sparse but that's by design as it allows for more focus on Nina and her incredible voice. There are few vocalists who I find to be as commanding of a presence as Nina and she provides some absolutely incredible performances all across this album but especially on tracks like Four Women and Wild Is The Wind. It crazy to think that this is as good as it is when it's mostly just made up of random leftovers from previous recording sessions. If that's not an indicator of just how immensely talented Nina Simone was then I don't know what is. This is an incredible album and now I can't wait to check out more of Nina's music. Favs: Wild Is The Wind, Four Women, What More Can I Say?, That's All I Ask Least Fav: If I Should Lose You (still a great song) 9.6/10

Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden
Apr 28 2026

A pretty standard but enjoyable metal album. The overly theatrical vocals have always turned me off Maiden a bit but they weren't too bad here. Besides they're not exactly the focus here, as the main selling point of this album is the long instrumental passages. They're not as expensive here as they would be on later Maiden albums but there's still some pretty great ones here, especially Phantom of the Opera. This isn't the most consistent album in the world as there are a couple of dud tracks here but for the most part I'd say I enjoyed this. Favs: Phantom of the Opera, Iron Maiden, Remember Tomorrow, Prowler Least Fav: Running Free 7.3/10

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Apr 29 2026

It's the highest selling album ever for a reason. Every song is just catchy as fuck and there's at least 4 songs on here that are arguably the best pop song ever. He might've been a pedo but damn, did he make some good music. Favs: Beat It, Billie Jean, Thriller, P.Y.T Least Fav: The Lady In My Life

Apr 30 2026

Extremely bland pop rock. Some catchy melodies here and there but nothing worth going out of your way to listen to.

So by Peter Gabriel
May 01 2026

Some good synthpop. Consistently very good but there was nothing here that fully blew me away.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
May 04 2026

This is the first Zeppelin album I've listened to in full. It's pretty great even if I do find it to be a little inconsistent. Some unbelievable highs here like Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You and Tangerine as well as some other great tracks across the track list. The more acoustic stuff towards the end was a bit hit or miss but I don't think any of those songs were necessarily bad apart from the last one, they just weren't as much to my tastes. Still, the majority of the songs here are great and I would definitely consider returning to this album even if not every song worked for me. Favs: Since I've Been Loving You, Tangerine, Immigrant Song, Celebration Day Least Fav: Hats Off To (Roy) Harper

Hotel California by Eagles
May 05 2026

I thought this would be overshadowed by the title track but to my surprise this was actually quite a great album all the way through. Some of the slower more piano led tracks didn't do as much for me as the other songs but I thought each track here had enjoyable qualities and there was nothing here that I hated. Very simple 70s rock music, but I enjoyed it. Favs: Hotel California, New Kid In Town, Try And Love Again, Life In The Fast Lane Least Fav: Wasted Time 8.1/10

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
May 08 2026

This is just straight up good music. If this came on the radio you certainly wouldn't be hearing any complaints from me.

Buena Vista Social Club by Buena Vista Social Club
May 11 2026

Can't exactly comment on the lyrical content here but musically, this is very good. Great blend of Latin music with jazz and some African elements thrown in too. This is a bit long with 14 songs across an hour but I dont think there was ever a moment during this that I was bored. Not exactly a style of music I'm familiar with but this was a very enjoyable listen and I will be returning to this.

With The Beatles by Beatles
May 12 2026

Was only a matter of time before I got a Beatles album. Their earlier stuff gets shafted a bit but I thought this was quite decent. Even though this doesn't even come close to their best stuff, the boys still very clearly had an eye for catchy melodies as displayed here and the instrumental work is also quite solid. Weird mixing choices on this though, with the vocals taking up the right channel while the instrumental takes up the left. I didn't mind it too much but it is very strange. This is a fine album overall, but it does get a bit repetitive as it goes on and obviously this is far from the best thing these guys would release

Djam Leelii by Baaba Maal
May 13 2026

This isn't something I would've ever considered listening to if not for this project but I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Great guitar playing all across this thing and some interesting vocals that almost acted as another another piece in these sparse, relaxing instrumentals. This is maybe a bit too repetitive to be as long as it is but for the most part this was very good overall.

Ray Of Light by Madonna
May 15 2026

Fantastic pop album. Standout production all across this thing and some amazing vocals from Madonna. This does go on a bit longer than it probably should've, but I still enjoyed pretty much every song here to some extent.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
May 18 2026

This guy looks like a dork but his music is actually very good.

Blur by Blur
May 19 2026

Wow I'm actually surprised at how much I didn't like this. The first 4 songs here are great but after that the album just spirals off entirely into these weird experiments that don't work at all. Some songs are super lo-fi while some are cleanly produced, all the songs are all over the place sound wise and all of their attempts at experimenting with different genres are super half assed and just make this a really disjointed and confusing listen overall. I liked a few songs here but a majority of this I thought was pretty bad.

Honky Tonk Heroes by Waylon Jennings
May 20 2026

Country isnt a genre in overly familiar with but I thought this was quite good. Dude has a cool voice and a lot of the songs here are really catchy. The album's only like 26 minutes long too so it's a very easy listen too. I probably wouldn't ever come back to this but I'd say I enjoyed my time with it overall.

Viva Hate by Morrissey
May 21 2026

Some very good songs on here but way too inconsistent for me to call this great. Also doesn't hold a candle to any of the best Smiths albums. Favs: Every Day Is Like Sunday, Suedehead, Bengali In Platforms Least Fav: Dial-a-Cliché 6.8/10

May 22 2026

This deserves the full 5 just for the title track alone. I love the other songs here, especially Siberian Khatru but man that first song is just something else entirely.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
May 25 2026
Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
May 27 2026

Love me a bit of Sigur Rós. This isn't my favourite album from them but this is still an absolute essential when it comes to post-rock music. Fantastic instrumental work on this with several stunningly beautiful compositions up and down this thing. I'm not too sure what's going on lyrically but Sigur Rós has never been a band that I go to for the lyrics anyway as the vocals basically just act as another instrument in the mix. I do think they would fully perfect this sound on their next album, but this is still great in its own right and deserves all of the praise that it gets. Favs: Svefn-g-englar, Starálfur, Ný batterí, Olsen olsen Least Fav: Hjartað hamast 9.4/10

May 28 2026

Not sure i needed to hear 7 minutes of screeching guitar feedback in the middle of this but the rest of this album was quite good.

Happy Sad by Tim Buckley
May 29 2026

Very interesting album. Some songs do go on a bit longer than they should but for the most part I found this to be a very hypnotic mix of folk and jazz, with some great vocals from Tim as well.

All Directions by The Temptations
Jun 01 2026

The slower songs don't do as much for me as the funkier songs do but man does this have some incredible highlights. Papa Was A Rolling Stone is absolutely fantastic.

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Jun 02 2026

This is so fucking boring. I feel like I'm missing something because this is such a highly regarded album but I didn't get a whole lot out of most of the songs on here. There's some exceptions of course, I loved Tumbling Dice and Rocks Off and 1 or 2 others too, but everything else just kinda went in one ear and out the other.

Document by R.E.M.
Jun 04 2026

Haven't listened to much R.E.M but I really liked this. A lot higher energy than I expected with some really great songwriting too. There's at least 2 absolutely fantastic songs on here but I thought all the songs on here were at least good.

Different Class by Pulp
Jun 09 2026

Yeah this really is just fucking amazing isn't it. Common People is obviously a classic but every song on here is just as catchy and just as amazingly written. Possibly the single best britpop album ever.

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Jun 15 2026

A tragedy that this was the only album this guy made before he died. An immense talent that was taken from us far too soon. This album more than deserves it's reputation.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Jun 16 2026

Certainly a very interesting album. Not sure i fully understood this even after 2 listens but I still think this was pretty great regardless. Enjoyed the flute playing a lot.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jun 18 2026

40 minutes of some of the most hypnotic jazz music you're ever likely to hear. Definitely one of my favourite albums in the genre.

Electric Prunes by The Electric Prunes
Jun 19 2026

Quite an interesting sounding record. Pretty unique for something released in 1967. I was actually quite enjoying this for the first few tracks but the second half is very hit or miss with a few really questionable sounding songs that didn't work for me at all. Still, this was a pretty solid listen overall, even if I won't return to it

Back In Black by AC/DC
Jun 22 2026

I would like this a lot more if the vocals didn't sound like the screams of a dying animal.

Ys by Joanna Newsom
Jun 25 2026

Can't say I've heard much music that sounds like this. Not entirely sure what she's on about most of the time but instrumentally, this is one of the most beautiful things I've heard in a while.

Phaedra by Tangerine Dream
Jun 26 2026

I have a really short attention span so ambient music doesn't usually do a lot for me. This was pretty decent though, even if it doesn't have a lot of replay value.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Jun 29 2026

The start of a run of classic albums that would completely redefine music in basically every way you can think of. Also just a really good album in its own right too. Several fantastic songs on this, some of which stand as some of the best songs that this band would ever release like Nowhere Man and In My Life. Could put this on whenever and probably have a good time listening to it.

Jun 30 2026

Never really cared for Queen outside of the big hits but this was very good. I appreciated the variety on display here with pretty much every song being in a different style. Not all of them worked for me, especially some of the more theatrical sounding ones, but I enjoyed a majority of the tracks here and the album was at the very least interesting all throughout.

Jul 01 2026

This is very OK. There's some good songs on here but a majority of this just felt like stuff I've already heard before by bands who do this sound a lot better.

Jul 06 2026

One of the best indie rock albums ever. So many fantastic songs on here that it's genuinely not possible for me to pick a favourite.

At San Quentin by Johnny Cash
Jul 07 2026

Johnny Cash just seems like the coolest guy ever.

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Jul 08 2026

Sounds like a moodier version of the Flaming Lips. Enjoyed this even if it is a bit inconsistent.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jul 13 2026

Not my favourite album of theirs but early Sabbath is pretty much always great. Some weird experiments on here which hold this back from being better but the best songs on here absolutely fucking rip.

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Jul 20 2026

An obviously great album but not one that i would consider a personal favourite. I appreciate how short it is and there are a couple of fantastic songs on here but I do think it's a bit too repetitive and stripped back for my tastes, even if it is one of the better albums in this style that I've heard.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jul 24 2026

No idea what she's on about but it sounds nice.

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Jul 28 2026

A bit long but most of the songs here rule so I can't complain too much.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Jul 29 2026

One of the best grunge albums ever. Has all of the best aspects of that sound while injecting a lot of other influences to set itself apart from the pack and, in turn, create some of the best songs that the genre has to offer. And, of course, Chris Cornell's voice is absolutely unreal here.

Imagine by John Lennon
Jul 30 2026

The songs here sound OK I guess but lyrically, a majority of this comes across as super insincere and I just couldn't get into most of these songs.

Aug 03 2026

Practically birthed prog rock as we know it and even still today, over 50 years later this still stands as arguably the best album in that entire genre. Moonchild does drag on a bit but every other song here is among the best I've ever heard.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Aug 04 2026

Super ahead of it's time. I mean there's still not much that sounds like this. Love how this starts off relatively accessible at the start and then just gets super weird in the second half while still remaining every bit as good. Cloudbusting and The Big Sky are my favourites here but you could make an argument for any of these songs being the best one.

Electric Music For The Mind And Body by Country Joe & The Fish
Aug 05 2026

This was just kinda boring. I appreciate the fact that this was probably influential or something but there's a million other bands who went on to make music that sounds like this who are far more interesting.

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Aug 07 2026
Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Aug 10 2026

Far from the best Stevie Wonder album but basically anything this guy did in the 70s was a hit, this included.
