1001 Albums Summary

I just about didn't listen to this cause I thought there was no way I would enjoy it but I was pleasantly surprised! A good chunk of this is just like inoffensive and forgettable but there are definitely some songs that had me listening closer and enjoying myself. Pretty strong B side Fav tracks: Luna, Strangered in the Night, Fooled Again (I Don't Like It)

In one ear and out the other

I've thought for a while now that every Nirvana song sounds the exact same and this hasn't convinced me otherwise

About what I expected from a Rolling Stones album, which is to say it's fine but not really my thing

Quite good! Definitely the best album we've gotten so far. Sufjan Stevens must have really liked Old Man Fav tracks: Old Man, Heart of Gold

Surprisingly soulful and groovy for prog. Pretty good stuff Fav tracks: Glad, Empty Pages

The noise was the only interesting thing about Psychocandy so without it this is pretty boring

Truly one of the all time classic albums. Such densely layered rhythms Fav tracks: Crosseyed and Painless, The Great Curve, Once in a Lifetime, Seen and Not Seen

This is just painfully boring to me. I guess I really don't like britpop

Joni Mitchell has always been one of those artists where I tend to like covers of their songs more than their own original recordings, but this album has given me a lot more appreciation for her as a recording artist herself. I like her vocals here quite a bit and the instrumentation is simple but very pretty, as much of the best folk music is Fav tracks: Little Green, All I Want

It's aged kinda poorly and it's not at all their best but damn if it isn't still fun

I expected to bounce off this pretty hard but it only just teeters on too slick and doesn't quite cross the line. There's definitely some good stuff here Fav tracks: Peg, Josie

Quite good, but not as impressive as Songs in the Key of Life Fav track: He's Misstra Know-It-All

Pretty middle of the road post punk, with a little extra fuzz. Not bad Fav track: All of This & Nothing

Not my thing. Pretty samey

I usually really bounce off rap from this era but this worked surprisingly well for me. The rapping itself I wasn't the biggest fan of but I quite liked the beats Fav tracks: American Terrorist, The Cool, I Gotcha

Music for a Lowe's commercial. Very dated and thoroughly uninteresting

The grandiosity just borders on being overwrought but overall it's a pretty enjoyable album Fav track: Bullet the Blue Sky

Makes for a nice chill listen, but it really doesn't sound much like tango to me

Dancing Queen is a stone cold classic of course but I'm not sure anything else here is really notable. It's nice enough though Fav track: Dancing Queen

I think a lot of this would be nice in the right context but sitting down and listening to over an hour of this is not particularly exciting. That said it's not unenjoyable Fav tracks: Crazy Love, Free My Mind

I'll take this over pop country any day but it's still not really my thing

Boring

It's kinda hard to appreciate a lyrics-focused genre when you can't understand the lyrics

Not quite every song here is a hit (namely the punk ones don't land for me) but I think there's more than enough great material to make up for it. So many bangers, so much variety, and so much fun Fav tracks: B-Boys Makin' With the Freak Freak, Sure Shot, The Update

Not my favorite Stooges album. Feels overly tame by today's standards

I started out enjoying it somewhat but I got bored of it by the end Fav track: Lonely Planet Boy

There's some charm in how completely of its time it sounds and some of the tracks are kinda fun to hear once or twice but a lot of this is really forgettable and the lyrics are often pretty bad

Wonderfully moody and full. Usually I'm not much of a fan of synths in these contexts but here they add such a great atmosphere that ties everything together so well. Of course there's also plenty of catchy guitar and bass lines to keep the energy up. All in all it makes for a gloominess that's more melodramatic and melancholy than just depressing Fav tracks: Disintegration, Plainsong, Fascination Street

Fun, energetic, and concise. An all around good time with a few particularly great songs Fav tracks: River Euphrates, Gigantic, Vamos

Like Japan but not as good. It's alright

I don't like this. Just comes off as corny and inauthentic to me. I'd prefer normal Celtic folk without the rock

It's not good but it's fairly inoffensive

Neat sound. It's not every day you hear acoustic bass Fav tracks: Kiss Off, Gone Daddy Gone, Good Feeling

Bad music made worse by the fact that there's 74 minutes of it. I think Anthony Kiedis is one of my least favorite vocalists ever

One of those albums that doesn't really have specific standout tracks but is just very enjoyable as a whole. Good improvement on the sound from 77, Eno's involvement adds a lot. Fav track: Warning Sign

Very interesting for a late 60s pop record. I enjoyed it Fav track: Plastic Palace People

Really strong start and of course Mr. Brightside is a classic but most of these songs are misses Fav tracks: Jenny Was a Friend of Mine, Mr. Brightside

I don't think I like a single thing about this

I don't always love the directions these songs go but the arrangements are so pretty that I enjoy them regardless Fav track: We've Only Just Begun

I expected to have a stronger reaction to this but it was just super boring

Perfectly ignorable

It's well made but none of these songs quite do it for me

I don't have any particular connection to it so it doesn't land for me in the same way it seems to for so many others but it's certainly enjoyable. One of the better prog albums for sure

It's definitely grown on me over the years, but I still prefer their following era Fav tracks: A Short Term Effect, One Hundred Years

I've never liked the two big hits from this album (One Way or Another especially gets under my skin) but the rest is pretty decent

Every element of this just feels kinda lifeless and unmoving. I don't mind listening to it but I wouldn't say I enjoy it either. I can't be bothered to feel strongly about it one way or the other

Borders on cheesy at times but mostly manages to work for me. I've always mixed up Billy Joel and Elton John but I enjoy this more than anything I've ever heard from the latter Fav tracks: Scenes From an Italian Restaurant, The Stranger, Get It Right the First Time

Not as mind-numbingly awful as Blood Sugar Sex Magik (perhaps only because it's shorter and more ignorable) but still not good

I wasn't expecting it to sound so much like The Strokes but it was fine. Honestly I prefer the production on here to what The Strokes were doing

Classic. One of my favorite albums to fall asleep to on a plane

Generally pretty good, but doesn't have much in the way of standout tracks like some of their other albums. Their debut deserves to be on this list far more than this does Fav track: Barbarism Begins at Home

Solid Fav track: Ye Ye De Smell

It's fine. I was fearing it would be more blues rock revival influenced after the first song but it thankfully wasn't

Surprisingly good. Takes more risks than I would've expected Fav tracks: O My God, King of Pain, Synchronicity II, Walking in Your Footsteps

Inoffensive but dull. There's really not much going on here

I was shocked by how recognizably hip hop this was (instead of rap rock). This is pretty crazy for 1984-- the production at least. The flows have aged a little more poorly Fav tracks: Wake Up, It's Like That

Disco isn't really my thing

Great synthpop with a lot of rough edges, in the best way. Very fun Fav tracks: Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, Frustration, Youth, Sex Dwarf, Bedsitter

So aggressively mid

It's just fine. Doesn't hold a candle to their older stuff

Fiona Apple's music has never really clicked with me and this is no different

I don't know French so I can't comment on the lyrics or subject matter but the instrumentals are quite good at least Fav tracks: En Melody, Melody

Honestly a little more bearable than 21, but still pretty boring

My intro to Björk and the reason I originally fell in love with her. Although it's maybe not my favorite of hers anymore it's still a perfect album. Such infectiously catchy melodies and production that always surprises me with its depth. I will love this album forever Fav tracks: Human Behaviour, Come to Me, One Day, Crying, Big Time Sensuality, Like Someone in Love, Violently Happy

Pretty solid Fav tracks: Africano, Happy Feelin'

It's alright

One of very few country albums I can enjoy. Johnny Cash seems to be having a lot of fun

Kinda neat as a sound I'm not familiar with but it's not a very exciting listen

I always want to like Public Enemy more than I do but the consistently high energy/speed beats with little variation makes it hard to stay focused on it

Pretty neat. A lot more upbeat than Fourth Drawer Down, but still pretty unique
