An album very much of its time…. Made me want to sit in a blacklit room with lava lamps and get high
Can’t dislike Ella, not what I’d choose to listen to, and over 3 hours was a bit daunting, but a voice that transports you to another time and place… not my preferred style of music, but a pleasant change
If I never have to listen to this album again it’ll be an entire eternity too soon… 1 star is far too high a score for this absolute assault on the ears but unfortunately there isn’t a way to give it less… I know some music is experimental but sometimes you have to admit the experiment failed… 40 minutes of the worst sounding high school wannabes, who barely know how to play an instrument and think they are being super profound and edgy… play this on a battlefield and you’d be facing charges for war crimes

Knowing the history of what happened to produce this live performance definitely helps you appreciate the skill and true artistry behind it… not something I’ll probably choose to listen to again, but a good listen
Proof that not all punk was devoid of any talent… some good riffs on top of a classic punk voice, not to everybody’s liking, but definitely mine
Some good vocals, and not without its merits, but with songs that go on for 9 minutes after they clearly ended, and basically devolve into some form of random drum circle, makes listening to this more tedious than listening to Paul McCartney singing the nanana nas for 6 months whenever he plays hey Jude… glad I listened, won’t be listening to it again
So for the second time in a week I’ve been given a Radiohead album, and I know it won’t be the last time… but dear god are these just a bunch of whiny privileged white boys…. This album evokes a melancholic nostalgia for better days, which in this case is any day you don’t have to listen to Radiohead… they say the worst things happen at sea, but apparently they actually happen during a Radiohead studio recording… the only thing more insufferable than this trite, is the fans who insist it’s actually genius.
I really don’t know how to feel about suede, they aren’t really my kind of band, but they are so close that I feel I should like them… I think the problem for me is I find their music instantly forgettable… I’m not sure that I’d recognise any song on this album again if I heard it today… I can appreciate why people would like this, but for me it’s just bland, like eating toast.
This is background music… if I hadn’t had to actively listen to it I wouldn’t notice that it was there… and yet somehow it still managed to drag…
Quite a pleasant folk sound, but lacking an original voice… the songs were pleasant but missing any originality, but an album I could easily listen to on a lazy sunday
Loved this, but knew I would after already being kind of familiar with the pixies despite having never really listened to them… this is a band not afraid to be themselves and try new things, not everything works, but for those like me who likes this kind of music, it’s a really fun ride… had to knock off a star though because they are an influence of Radiohead…. And Radiohead suck
If I was a younger man when I first heard this I’m sure I would’ve liked it a lot more than I did, nothing particularly wrong with it, a pleasant enough listen, but for me it didn’t have an authentic voice to make it stand out, like the band was still searching for who they are, and were just imitating who they thought they should be
Punk isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it is mine and this album slaps from the very start, musically this is very typical late 70s British punk but with a hint of ska and female vocals giving it its own unique place in the genre… my only criticism is that towards the end the album was starting to drag a bit and the last few track seemed to blend together… but overall a fantastic album and one I will revisit
Gonna give this one 5 stars not because of how much I enjoyed it (that would only be a 4 star) but because listening to this album made me realise just how influential jimi had been on my own life and others, a lot of tracks and riffs I didn’t even know I knew but that had been used in films I grew up on… the music itself has the rawness of sound that is often lacking in today’s over produced music industry, and it just felt special, is Jimi Hendrix technically the best guitar player who ever lived? Probably not, but he is among the most influential, and it’s clear to see why his legacy lives on
This is the first album on this list that I’ve really struggled to know what it is I think about it…. So much of it is right up my street and yet it fails grab me… probably it’s my aversion to songs lasting twice (or even thrice) as long as they need to, it’s just self indulgent

The exact moment Rick music stopped being cool was when this album was released… tom petty is your Nan’s idea of a bad boy, while punk was just starting to take hold, tom petty was stuck doing bad impressions of better musicians… an album full of songs that luck any substance, just sugar coated nonsense that’s only saving grace is that the album is just 30 minutes long
Really enjoyed this, was nice to have a female vocal, women so far feel vastly underrepresented in this list. Can see traces of punk and alt rock combining to give a fresher voice to a sometimes stale genre
Once again rounding up a solid 2.5 album… this album is a schizophrenic bombardment with a few great songs and a lot of filler… iggy pop is a caricature of the classic idea of a drug fuelled rock star, but without the unique talent to ever be anything more than a guy who sang a couple of really good songs; but even that is an achievement… once you’ve heard this albums title track, and the passenger… there’s really nothing left of any interest, unless you want to listen to iggy doing a bad Bowie impression.. all that said the song “lust for life” is an all time great song and can lift me up on even the darkest days
This album perfectly illustrates that context matters in all things… had I heard these exact songs being sung by this exact band at an outdoor bbq or beer festival, then I’d have walked away saying how much I enjoyed them, but listening to them on a list of the supposed 1001 best albums of all time I come away questioning how has something this insultingly mediocre even been brought up in the conversation, let alone made the list. There is nothing egregiously unlikeable about the album, even Rod Stewart’s vocals aren’t as bad as normal, but on the flip side there is nothing to really love about it either… if music has colour this album is beige
As a teenager in the 90s from the uk i have been asked many times, Blur or Oasis? At the time i didnt care about either, and not much has changed since… this album is a lot less pop than blurs previous stuff, and you can tell that they are really trying to push themselves musically, and most of the time that kinda works… song 2 is the clear standout memorable rack of the album, closely followed by beetlebum… but the rest of it is mostly of good standard… not my favourite blur album, probably not one that ill ever fully revisit… but a good listen
Very hard to dislike Dons voice, and on an allbum that contains the classic american pie and beautiful song vincent giving this anything less than 4 stars for me is impossible… don has the sort of voice that just brings you to a peaceful mood, its very easy to lose yourself in it and not notice just how much time is passing… i think this is an album that as i get older im just going to appreciate more as it lacks the energy of wild youth, but contains the wisdom of someone whos learnt to slow down…
Standard easy listening dad rock… I don’t have much more to say about it… enjoyable lazy Sunday songs, not world breaking, but enjoyable
This album has good vocals, catchy songs, some great guitar riffs and music… and yet manages to be one of the most boring albums I’ve had to listen to while working my way through this list… maybe I’m just fed up with 70s rock music, a genre that so far seems over represented… maybe in a few years I’ll revisit this album and change my mind, but right now I’m giving it 2 stars and considering that generous
So far once every two weeks I’ve been recommended a Radiohead album.. the only artist I’ve been recommended more than once so far, and my opinion of them is only getting worse… describing anything on this album as music, would be an insult to anybody who has ever even heard of the concept of music… this is just noise, and even that description is being overly nice… how has Radiohead convinced so many that they have any skill is beyond me…the fact that after this album finished, Spotify started playing the smiths, and my response was “thank god, something upbeat” shows how miserably depressing Radiohead are as a band… and why are they so depressing, when in reality they should be constantly laughing about how they’ve undeservedly stolen a music career for decades… I know there is at least 2 more Radiohead albums on this list, and I know my luck means I’ll be listening to them soon… but for now FUCK RADIOHEAD
This list has thrown up some odd albums, I’m not sure why I should have to listen to this before I die, but I’m glad I did because it was hilarious… I know it didn’t mean to be, but the absurdly bad lyrics sang with earnestness had me convinced this had to be a parody album… if this is what you like then more power to you, but I thought it was just ridiculous… like a toddler rambling at you about a dinosaur he saw, it may be entertaining, but it doesn’t make any sense, and it’s nowhere near as profound as he thought
Some of this rating may be nostalgia, but like many who grew up in the 90s I am very familiar with R.E.M, in fact this is the first time I’ve been recommended an album that I definitely owned in some form.. revisiting it after 20ish years and I’m reminded how unique a sound they have, how they can seamlessly go from sentimental to upbeat, and how almost every song is a good song, in fact the 2 standout songs on this album are among my least favourite.. I get that R.E.M isn’t for everyone… but they definitely hit the spot for me
Theres a reason ABBA have remained popular since they first broke onto the scene, and its because they are good at what they do… the songs are well written and sung beautifully, and even for somebody like me who isnt a fan of ABBA or this style of pop music, its hard to actually dislike them
I am honestly starting to think this list is sponsored by the 70s because once again im fed this most generic of generic rock, though this tine with a blues twist…this album is a long slog through mediocrity, until we finally get to the one song anyone knows, which isnt worth it because that riff has been used to death at the beginning of some sports show your dad watched…this is music made for the most mediocre white boomer dad. With zero appeal to anyone outside thar demographic
A band that has probably suffered in my rating of them because i’ve heard too many similar bands.. its not that the music or lyrics are bad, its just that there are better in this genre.. so for me this was an enjoyable but forgettable listen
If you want influential artists, then you’ll get few more influential in there genre than public enemy… I’m not a big fan of rap and hip hop in general, but I can appreciate how important public enemy are to the genre, and why they were imoortant voices for black culture at the time… an album that screams “we shall be heard” and although some of the beats have aged, the messages barely have
So sraight off the bat this is my kind of music, i could listen to this stuff most days without getting bored, but again i have to question why this is a must listen before i die album? I wouldn't say its a standout album in the genre, it wasn't groundbreaking, and most of the songs just blended into each other… there was nothing standout… I'm giving it a 4 because i enjoyed it more than i have a lot of albums so far recommended to me… and yes i would listen to more…. But i wouldnt say this is essential listening
