Morrison Hotel
The DoorsWaiting for the Sun was good, but nothing else left much of an impression.
Waiting for the Sun was good, but nothing else left much of an impression.
Pretty good. Not a fan of Robert Plant's voice, especially when he's screeching all the, "Ooooh baby baby!" stuff, but the music itself is good and even awesome at times.
A bunch of instruments playing, but with no relation to each other. An interminably long album.
I'm not big on blues, but this is pretty good. Interesting that the Rolling Stones took their name from Muddy Waters' song "Rollin' Stone." That one's not on this album, but I'll have to give it a listen.
I expected a lot of screaming and pounding drums, but there was much more musical variety than that, along with some cool sound effects. Still, none of the songs grabbed me, and some of the lyrics were juvenile: the school's been blown to pieces? Hmm...
I've never understood the appeal of Prince. Some of the rhythms are good, but I don't find most of his songs to be very tuneful. Never cared for his voice, and the lyrics don't do much for me. That said, I did enjoy the lyrics to "Baby I'm a Star."
Favorite songs were Crosstown Traffic and House Burning down. Voodoo Chile was too long and too bluesy for me. Nothing else really stood out. Some of the instrumentals were pretty cool, especially the guitar. But then, it's Jimi Hendrix.
Awesome album! I grew up listening to Cat Stevens, and I always loved rocking out to Miles from Nowhere. It's hard to pick a favorite, though. I love every song.
Nice to listen to as background music, but there was nothing I really loved.
There were a few songs on this album that were a little catchy, but most of them were just so-so.
Tedious and headache-inducing.
I just couldn't get into this at all. No tune, just a beat with sounds. It was hard to distinguish one track from another.
Not too bad. Pleasant to play in the background while you're doing something else. Honky Tonk Heroes and You Ask Me To were especially catchy tunes.
A few of the songs were a little catchy (Slowdown-Sundown, Spanish Dancer), but most didn't stand out for me.
A few of the tracks weren't too bad, but overall, a forgettable album.
Coldplay songs always sound so melancholy, and this album is no different. I like that though; the music sets a certain haunting mood.
Liked the instrumental parts, especially the guitar. The lyrics, not so much. Vocals were mediocre. I'd like the album much better without any singing.
I liked the mix of styles in this album. There was some soul, lounge, and Electronica, and it all sounded a little haunting and trippy. Loved the vocals. Favorite songs were Mysterons and Wandering Star.
I enjoyed this album. Not all of the songs drew me in, but I can see where they might grow on me after listening a few times. Favorite songs: World on a String, Come on Baby Let's Go Downtown, and Roll Another Number.
These songs just sounded like a lot of racket. Nothing that appealed to me at all Hated it.
A great album. Catchy tunes, and the harmonies were beautiful. There wasn't a bad song in the bunch, but the one that really stood out for me was A Rose for Emily.
Okay as background music, I guess, but there was nothing really memorable on this album.
Not bad, but not really great either. Favorite songs were Flower and Manchild.
Average album. Nothing really stood out for me.
Pretty good. Not a fan of Robert Plant's voice, especially when he's screeching all the, "Ooooh baby baby!" stuff, but the music itself is good and even awesome at times.
Upbeat and quirky, but it all starts to sound the same after awhile. I gave it a few extra stars just for the weirdness of it all.
I really love some of these songs. Favorites are Trampled under Foot, Kashmir, In the Light, Bron-Yr-Aur, and Down by the Seaside. And that's after only listening once. The music has a driving, rhythmic beat that is satisfying, and I like how some of the songs play a tune for awhile and then veer off in another direction.
I've never been a big Elvis fan to begin with, and this album didn't change my mind. The songs were ho-hum.
This is more than just a regular album: it's an experience. It tells the story of a rock star's descent into insanity, but it ends with a glimmer of hope. I would give this album 5 stars just for Comfortably Numb alone, but the whole thing is awesome.
I try to find some redeeming quality about every album I listen to, but there was nothing here that I remotely liked.
I didn't hate it and it would probably be okay as background music, but blues is just not my jam.
Meh
Meh. Didn't do anything for me, and I don't like Axl Rose's singing.
The lyrics were refreshing (uplifting, Afrocentric, and spiritual with no hoes or mothafuckas), but it was still rap, and I could not get into it.
Rush's lyrics are always the best. The music itself was okay but didn't pull me in like the songs on some of their other albums, namely Permanent Waves, A Farewell to Kings, and even Caress of Steel. Geddy Lee's screeching gets old after awhile, too.
Most of it was two or three notes played over and over with a beat. Lyrics were incoherent. Kind of dreamlike and trippy though, so I'll give it a point for that.
If you like the song Cars, then you're in luck with this album, since the whole thing sounds like variations of that song. Unfortunately for me, I never cared for Cars.
Pleasant listening, though the songs he covered were mostly so-so. Sam Hall was my favorite.
Nothing memorable, and her voice was annoying.
So much of the music was tuneless, but I liked the eeriness of some of the songs.
Absolutely loved Maybe Your Baby. I also liked Blame It on the Sun and I Believe (When I Fall in Love It will be Forever.) And of course, Superstition is an awesome song.
The songs were monotonous-- one or two notes with an electronic beat. Some of echoey vocals were kind of cool, but that's about all I liked about it.
I like a lot of R.E.M's music, but this isn't my favorite album.. It's not terrible, but it's not one I'd listen to again.
Not for me. His throat must hurt after all that primal screaming.
Rap isn't my thing.
Not bad. A few of the songs were a little catchy, but nothing really wowed me.
I didn't hate this album, but I couldn't really get into it, either. I guess it was okay as background music, but there was nothing memorable about it. I don't understand the appeal of jazz.
Some of the guitar music was pretty good, but otherwise it was ho-hum.
Not bad, but I didn't love it.
Waiting for the Sun was good, but nothing else left much of an impression.
Jazz music with an African beat. Not for me.
Pleasant music, nice harmonies, but there was nothing that really stood out.
None of the tunes made an impact on me. She has a strong voice, though she sounds like she has a sore throat. The back up vocals are nice, and there's some pretty piano in there as well.
The singing is good, but the songs are uninteresting.
Glad I didn't like this, because now I don't have to admit to liking a band called The Slits.
Okay as background music, but that's it. Jazz isn't my thing.
A bunch of instruments playing, but with no relation to each other. An interminably long album.
A great album and an old favorite of mine. There were a few duds (Jamaica Jerk-Off, Your Sister Can't Twist, Dirty Little Girl), but the rest of the tracks more than make up for the bad ones.
She would have a pretty voice, but it's a little too trilly and thin. The tunes themselves are pleasant but not particularly memorable.
Not as bad as I was expecting, but still not for me.
I liked some of the guitar, but otherwise it was pretty forgettable.
Her voice grated on me at times, and I didn't love the music.
It sets a mood. Nice to listen to while relaxing with a drink at the the end of a long day.
Mildly entertaining, though I probably won't listen to it again.
Nope.
I liked a few of the songs, particularly Time and Hang Down Your Head. Interesting to listen to once, but I'm not sure I'll listen again.
It went on and on. I thought the guitar and drum solos would never end.
Not a heavy metal fan to begin with, so this didn't do much for me.
Opinions on societal issues, all set to a beat. No thanks.
Not bad. Favorite songs were Just like a Woman and Rainy Day Women.
Mellow and mildly pleasant, if a little bland.
Unusual and kind of cool. It could grow on me if I listened to it a few more times. Favorite songs: Another Pearl, Magic in the Air, Say It Again I would have liked This Song better without the annoying reverberation.
Beautiful voice. The songs were pleasant enough, but there was nothing that I felt I had to listen to again.
The songs were tuneless and all sounded the same.
Not terrible, but nothing grabbed me.
I prefer songs that have more than one or two notes.
Meandering and dull. He sounds like he's making up the tune as he goes along.
Not bad if you're in the mood for blues. Favorite song was I Can't be Satisfied.
Pretty good. Some pleasant, mildly catchy tunes. 3.5 stars
Nice. Some great harmonies, and I like the trippiness of some of the songs. Favorites: Natural Harmony, Wasn't Born to Follow, Get to You, and Bound to Fall (instrumental).
Vocals were a little weird but also kind of cool. I liked the ethereal sound, though it got to be a little too much after the first few songs.
Marvin Gaye could sing, but I never cared for his music.
There was nothing here that wowed me, but it's a decent album. My favorite was Behind Blue Eyes.
So weirdly repetitive that it almost put me in a trance.
Not crazy about this one. Bloodsport was pretty good, but even that went on a little too long.
Just couldn't get into this one.
Cabaret music is not my thing.
Some of the rhythms weren't bad, but overall, pretty forgettable.
Not terrible. Visions of You was kind of cool, and a few others were okay.
Some mildly catchy rhythms, but the vocals were annoying and the tunes were forgettable.
Decent album. It could grow on me after a few listens.
Not too bad. A few of the songs drew me in.
Psychedelic chaos. None of the songs were particularly memorable.
A pretty decent album. Favorite songs: I Know What I Know, Under African Skies. Rating: 3.5
Nothing memorable on this album.
Rap's not my thing.
Makes me sleepy.
I like her voice, and there are a few interesting melodies, but most of the album doesn't do anything for me. 2.5
Definitely has a 70s-show-background-music sound. I didn't love it, but at least it was easy to ignore.1
I thought I would hate this album, since I'm not a heavy metal fan, but I was pleasantly surprised, at least by parts of it. The San Francisco Symphony really added interest to the music. There were still long, relentless stretches with pounding drums and no real tune, but once in awhile a tune would break out among the chaos. There were some good, kickass beats, too. Favorite songs: Hero of the Day, Devil's Dance, Sad but True
Nothing stood out for me on this album.
Some mildly good stuff on here. The instrumental was way too long, though.
I didn't care for the style of music, although it did have a little weirdness to it, which I liked.
Not bad, but I probably won't listen again.
Really bad, though mercifully short.
Monotonous and not very tuneful. The music is strange enough to work as background music for something like Adult Swim's Off the Air or a similar show, but as for straight up listening to it, no thanks.
Love this album!
Who knew that such a sex-focused album could be so boring? 1.5 stars
Not bad. Some of these songs could grow on me. Favorites: Big Tears, Radio Radio
Repetitive electronic pop. Didn't care for it.
Here and there, an interesting rhythm would break out, but overall, pretty boring. Walking on the Moon is catchy in parts.
An okay album, but nothing really grabbed me.
Smooth lounge music, but that's about it.
This could really grow on me. I loved the lyrics and vocals.
Bland
Some of the songs sounded like background music for a 70s TV show. I don't care for jazz music, but I'll give it an extra star for not being grating, at least.
Pounding drums, lots of screaming, and the songs all sound the same.
Pleasant to listen to, and the storytelling is good. There are no songs I particularly want to come back to, however.
Repetitive and annoying.
I didn't care for this one. Nothing against Elvis in particular, just never been big on that 50s sound.
Mostly forgettable songs, although Good Feeling is okay. The lead vocalist sings about like I do, which is bad.
Awesome album. Love it!
Jazz just doesn't do it for me.
It was okay, but nothing grabbed me.
Parts of it are weird and trippy, other parts just boring. Vocals are lazy and slurry, which is okay for a song or two, but not for an entire album.
Not a bad album. I like Peter Gabriel's voice, and Sledgehammer is a good song. There are some nice harmonies in That Voice Again and Mercy Street. Didn't care for the female vocalist in Don't Give Up.
So many good songs on this album. I especially enjoyed the duet with Stevie Wonder, Just Good Friends, one I've never heard before.
Pat Benatar type music, but the songs aren't as good.
Mildly catchy tunes. I really like Shake it Off. Blank Spaces and All you Had to Do was Stay are also pretty good.
Not for me.
There was nothing that stood out for me.
Not bad, but not something I'd come back to.
Okay, but nothing here was memorable for me.
Nothing grabbed me.
No tune, no interesting rhythms, bad lyrics.
