Run-D.M.C.
Run-D.M.C.This was really fun to listen to at first. As the album progressed, though, I found myself getting kind of bored. 3/5
This was really fun to listen to at first. As the album progressed, though, I found myself getting kind of bored. 3/5
Why. Do. All. Of. These. Albums. Sound. The. Same. I was happy to see an 80's album after getting a seemingly endless stream of albums from the 60's. Specifically 1968 for whatever reason. Imagine my disappointment when I listen to this and realize it sounds like it's also from 1968. I didn't hate it. But please stop giving me this stuff. 3/5
Never heard of this band. This should be interesting... I'm only on the first song and I find it incredibly repetitive. I hope not all of the songs are like this. So far I like the second song a little better. There's not a lot of vocals and when there are I can't really tell what they're saying. I wish they would switch up the drumbeats a little. It's kind of annoying. The third song is the best so far. Different drumbeat which is nice. But holy crap these songs are so loooooooooooooong. Cool transition between tracks 4 and 5. Track 5 is giving me low-key Deus Ex vibes with the alarm thing going off in the background. I don't hate it. Track 6 is a nice change of pace. Track 7 is 9 minutes long. Send help. Okay this song is semi-interesting but there's still like 7 minutes left. No thank you. 2 minutes left. I can do this. Aaaaaaand track 9 is 6 and a half minutes long. What is this for?? Thank goodness, it's the final track. 2/5. This wasn't for me. I prefer lyrics with my music. If I'm listening to mostly instrumental music, this isn't the type I would go for. I can see that appeal I think, but it just didn't work for me.
I'm intrigued. I've heard of Judas Priest, of course, but I don't know if I've ever actually listened to any of their songs. Okay, this is kind of what I thought I would be getting. 80's heavy metal. I like it so far. Oooooh I really like "United". The vocals are really nice on this song. I'm on track 7 of 11 and I'm surprised to realize that there hasn't been a song on here that I didn't like. They've all been pretty good so far. Track 10 is pretty cool. Seems like they were going for a National Anthem vibe here. 3/5 Not a genre I typically gravitate towards, but I did enjoy it.
Have I heard of The Kinks? I think I have, but I'm not sure. This album cover is giving me Beatles vibes so that's the kind of sound I'm expecting. Okay yeah. This is what I was expecting. Track 2 is odd. Not a huge fan of that. Track 3 is really catchy. I don't understand the appeal of these kinds of vocals though. They are also all singing unison. This is the same issue I have with the Beatles lol. I don't know if I'm just dumb or what, but most of these songs don't make sense to me. Mmmkay track 6 is not my favorite. I have been enjoying the melodies so far though. The piano on track 7 is giving ragtime vibes. Not mad at that. Oh wait, now it's started to go off the rails. Hang on...did "Bittersweet Symphony" sample track 8?? I love the flutes in the beginning of track 11. Reminds me of an old Disney movie. Turns out, that's all I like about that track. 3/5 I don't listen to this genre much, basically because I'm not a huge fan of the vocal style. While I found many of these songs to be a bit weird, I did have fun listening.
I definitely know who Peter Gabriel is. I've heard a few songs here and there but haven't listened to a whole album. I'm excited! Love the sound of this so far. Actually, the two songs I know from Peter Grabriel are on this album lol. Track 3 has an interesting gospel sound to it. I'm also curious to know who the female singer is on this track. It seems like she sings at least half of the track so it's odd she's not credited. (I now know it's Kate Bush) Track 7 has a really interesting sound. Almost like it could be in the background of a CSI episode or something. Wow track 8 is not for me. 4/5 Late 80's music is a favorite of mine, so I was excited to see this album come up. Most of the songs on this album are too long for my taste, but I still enjoyed listening to them.
I've heard a few songs by Sufjan Stevens and I enjoy his sound. I'm looking forward to this. I'm only on the first track but I love the sound so far. Track 3 is almost 7 minutes long...usually this would bother me, but it's so interesting I don't even care. Oh wow...track 4. This is so intriguing. Dang this is such an interesting idea for an album. I'm having a blast with this. 5/5. Although this was really long, it was so interesting to listen to. I loved it. I want to go and listen to his Michigan album now.
Oof. Yeah...not a big Beatles fan. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. This is fine. I just get annoyed because they all sing in unison. I really don't understand the point of having four people in a band if you're all going to sing the same note. I get that they all play instruments, but idk. I will say, the songwriting is really good. 3/5 It's fine. I got bored pretty quickly.
Oh good. Two Beatles albums back to back. I had a feeling this would happen. I wonder how many more times I'll encounter them during this project. I've heard Track 2 but I didn't know that's what it was called. Wow Track 4 is a no from me. Ah, Yellow Submarine is on this album. I know it's really famous, but I don't get it. Wait, is that HARMONY I hear on Track 12?? 3/5. I liked this a little better than the Beatles album I listened to yesterday, but not enough to give an extra star.
This seems vaguely familiar. I'm not sure if I've heard anything from this artist, but we'll see. Why the hell is track 2 thirteen minutes long?? I'll admit, it sounds good. But it doesn't require 13 minutes for one song. Sorry. The creepy laughing at the end is ridiculous. I've heard track 3 before. Track 4 is giving me secular Carmen vibes. 3/5 Not for me. I like the 80's pop sound, so that's the only reason this is getting 3 stars and not 2.
The album artwork is giving Beatles...but with more drugs. Oh boy. Okay wait, I really like this. I mean it's track 1 so we'll see if this lasts. It's lasting. I'm on track 6 and still really digging the sound. I'm guessing track 10 is referring to WWI? Ohhhh I've heard track 12 before. 4/5 I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
YES!! I love Green Day! I've heard a lot of the songs off of this album but I don't think I've ever listened to the whole thing in one sitting. Okay when I said I've heard a lot of songs from this...apparently I meant 3 lol. Towards the end of track 2, the melody starts to sound like "Ring Of Fire". I'm not a big fan of these tracks that are two songs back to back but still considered one track. 5/5 As usual, a lot of the tracks were too long for me, but I still had fun and I still love Green Day.
Love MJ. Love this album. I don't think I've ever heard track 2 before. I looooove it. Dang this album is PACKED with MJ's heavy hitters. Track 7 is so chill. I'm obsessed. 5/5 Obviously
Yay for ZZ Top!! I freaking love "Sharp Dressed Man". I've never listened to this album in it's entirety before. I'm enjoying it, although I have to say, some of the songs do sound really similar to each other. 4/5 I love ZZ Top, but the album was a smidge on the repetitive side for me.
I'm not sure if I've ever heard of this artist. I like how chill track 1 is...it just drags a bit. I'm on track 4 and I have to admit...I'm bored. This psychedelic rock type of music doesn't usually resonate with me. The further I get into this album, the less I like it. Track 12 is kind of grating on my nerves. 2/5 This type of music is typically loved by critics...but I'm not a critic.
I've never listened to a full Elton John album before. I usually like what I hear from him though, so I'm looking forward to this. Why do we always have to start albums with songs that last my entire lifetime? Okay, apart from that first song, I'm liking this. I forgot how much I like the title track. 4/5 There's not doubt that Elton John knows what he's doing. This was a really cohesive album.
I have literally never heard of this before. Wow. 30 seconds in and this is already a no from me. I'm on track 3 now and I can't explain how much I detest this. Like is he trying to sound horrible on purpose? Is this satire or something? I don't hate track 6, simply because it is an instrumental song and no one is singing. 1/5. I would give it zero, but I don't know if the system will let me.
I'm a little scared that I'm going to hate this as much as I hated that Silver Jews album. I guess we'll see. Phew, it's not what I thought it was going to be. It's nice so far. I do prefer lyrics with my music but this isn't bad. It's more of a background music album, which is exactly what I needed today. I'm really liking this. 4/5 Super easy to listen to.
I know of one Kate Bush song...and I don't like it. A little nervous for this. I don't hate it but I don't like her voice much. The songs are interesting though...even if I don't really know what's going on. She does have pretty good range though. 3/5 It's mid.
Hmm...okay. Looks like the 2 songs I know from this band are on this album lol. I forgot how much I like "Shout". I'm usually not a fan of longer songs, but the melodies and the instrumentation is so good on this. Ugh "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" is so freaking good. Oooooooh cool transition between tracks 5 and 6. I love that the album opens with "Shout" and closes with "Listen". I don't know if that was on purpose, but I'm choosing to believe it was. 4/5 This is really good.
I tend to like Simon & Garfunkel's songs so I'm looking forward to this. I'm like 30 seconds into the first track and I already love it. The songwriting is so good. Ooooooh I didn't know track 6 was theirs! Geez the final track is a punch in the gut. 5/5 Loved it.
I think I've heard some songs by The Black Keys, but I'm not sure. So far so good. They do sound familiar, but I don't think I've heard any of the songs on this album. Maybe I've heard "Howlin' For You". It seems familiar. 4/5 A little too bluesy for me, but I still enjoyed it.
Please tell me I'm not in for more psychedelic rock... Seems like that's exactly what I'm in for. Yay. Okay, it's not like it's objectively terrible but it definitely isn't for me. It's a good thing there's only 7 songs on this album since 3 in a row are over 5 and a half minutes. Track 6 is almost 8 minutes and I'm so done. This dude makes a lot of random noises that seem like they're supposed to be screaming. Instead it's just annoying. This last track doesn't even seem like it's trying to be music. Just noise. Ew. 1/5 No thank you
Yay! I do enjoy Adele's music. Ugh her VOICE! She's incredible. I forgot how much I like Adele. I think I need to start listening to her again. Also I didn't realize how many hits are on this album. A lot of her biggest songs are on here. 5/5 I mean, come on. It's Adele.
Okay...I think I've heard one song from Beck so I'm intrigued. Their songs are catchy. I'll give 'em that. 3/5 I got bored pretty quickly.
I don't know if I'm looking forward to this or not. I'm getting a little tired of music from the 60's. There's a 10 minute song on here. Kill me. I will say, I like their sound though. Whoever this Tommy is, did not have a great time of it based on what I'm hearing... 2/5 I'm a hard sell on concept albums. I usually don't vibe with them. This album is no different.
I was a big Christina Aguilera fan as a kid. Looking forward to this. This album is such a product of the 2000s with all of the disc scratching sounds every few seconds lol. I love it. Oof. Track 7 hurts. I have a feeling that I'm going to like the second disc of this album better than the first. The opening track to the second disc is freaking me out in the best way. 4/5 Dang she's got a great voice.
I haven't listened to a lot of Marvin Gaye. Let's gooooooooo! His VOICE...COME ON!! 4/5 This was a lot of fun to listen to.
Oh good. Another album from the 60s. There's a cover of "Do You Love Me" on here...it's fine but the original is way better. I might be a little biased since the original was on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack lol, but still. I'm sorry...I don't care for their sound. I feel like a broken record at this point because I've said that about almost every album from the 60s that I've listened to for this project. 2/5 I mean, it sounds like they were having fun, which is great. But I was not having that much fun.
I've never fully understood the hype around Bowie. Maybe now I will. So far I still don't really get it. There's a Beatles cover. Because of course. I don't hate this necessarily. I like the music, but I am not a fan of Bowie's voice. 3/5 Meh
I have no clue what this is. Wait, this is really cool. I feel like I'm playing a retro video game or something. This is super fun to listen to so far. This album started off strong but it's starting to go downhill a bit for me. Finishing strong with the final track though. 4/5 This was a pleasant surprise.
I feel like I've heard this name before, but that's all I've got. For an artist that came out of the British Invasion, I actually really like their sound. This instrumental version of "Greensleeves" is really pretty. 4/5 Great sounding album.
I think the songwriting on this album is too smart for me. I had no clue what was going on...at any point. It was fun to listen to though, musically anyway. 3/5
I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. It just sounded so GOOD. I'm going to have to listen to more of their music. 5/5
I've come to the realization that I don't like progressive rock. When I'm looking at the track list and see that most songs are 6+ minutes...I can't. That being said, it's not like this didn't sound good. It did. But it's really not for me. 2/5
This was a chore to get through. Psychedelic rock is not for me. I don't usually have much of an opinion on Janis Joplin's voice...but I noticed while listening to this that she sounds like Marge Simpson when she sings in her upper register. So...no thanks. 1/5
I have never heard of this artist before. Although I wasn't a fan of his voice, the songs were mostly chill, which I appreciate. This was a pleasant listen. 3/5
Never heard of this band before...don't plan to revisit them in the future. This was just...so...basic. I got bored. 2/5
This was really fun to listen to at first. As the album progressed, though, I found myself getting kind of bored. 3/5
Ehhhhh it's okay. Production-wise, there were some cool things happening. Just not my thing I guess. 3/5
Because of how nice this sounds, I hesitate to give it less than 3 stars. I want to because I detest songs that last longer than 5 minutes...but I guess that's more an issue of my short attention span than an issue with the album itself. 3/5
Please let this be the last album by The Stooges I have to endure on this list. I can't stand Iggy Pop and no amount of exposure to his music is going to change that. The first two songs on here were maybe not terrible, but after that I was over it. The 10 minute song "We Will Fall" didn't help either. 2/5
U2 is a weeeee bit overrated. This album wasn't bad, just boring. I thought I was going to like it a lot more than I did so it's a bit of a disappointment. 3/5
I thought I liked Oasis more than I actually do. This was just okay. 3/5
Oh my god I thought this album would never end. 3/5
This was nice to have on in the background for work. I liked the chill vibes. I'm not sure that this needs to be on a list of the greatest albums of all time, but what do I know? 4/5
I skimmed this album. I feel like everyone says this of albums they don't like but...every song sounded the same. For real. I won't be revisiting this band. What the hell is shoegaze?? 2/5
You know, the fact that this album only has 5 songs but lasts 45 minutes already makes me not want to listen to it. Okay so I liked that way more than I thought I would. 4/5
This was fun to listen to. Most of the Blondie songs that I'm familiar with were on this album. 4/5
This was really beautiful. Although, at the time of listening, I was trying to book my first ever flight and the music was amping up my anxiety lol. 4/5
What is there to say? It's Tina Turner...5/5
God, this was boring. No matter how many times this list makes me listen to prog rock...I'm not going to like it. 2/5
It's not like this was bad or anything. I'm not all that in to 60's music though...and that's basically all I've had to listen to for this list so far. Meh. 3/5
Okay...I didn't hate this...I actually started out kind of into it. And then all of the songs started to sound too similar. 3/5
I've never heard of this band before, but when I looked them up and saw that they are Indie Pop, I fully expected to love this. I didn't though, not really. I liked it...the production was cool and the male vocals were really good. The female vocals didn't do it for me though. Kinda killed the vibe a little bit. Still glad I listened to it though. 4/5
Love CCR. Would have been a 5 star if there hadn't been a 7 minute AND 11 minute song on here. 4/5
I thought I liked The Temptations. Now I'm thinking maybe I don't. Or at least I don't like this album. Also...why does every album on this list so far have at least one unnecessarily long song? Kinda driving me nuts. 2/5
What the hell was that? 1/5
I don't really care for Bowie. This was decent though. 3/5
This was pleasant to listen to but it was just. So. Long. 3/5
I must be missing something because I can't figure out why the hell this is on the list. 2/5
Fun to listen to. Got a little samey in the middle, but finished strong. 4/5
I have had to listen to sooooo much 60's psychedelic rock because of this list. I still don't like it much. That said, this album is definitely one of the better ones I've heard from that era. 3.5/5
Ew. 1/5
Apparently the author of this book loved any music that came out of 1968. That's great. I don't. But now my Spotify thinks I do. 2/5
Immediately no. 1/5
Her voice is absolutely gorgeous! This album came after a string of disappointing listens for me...which may have influenced by rating a bit but not much. 4/5
Not really my thing but I can appreciate this album's significance. 3/5
Honestly I skimmed the rest of this album after the first few songs. Still liked the sound a lot though. 4/5
Meh. I'm just not that into Bowie. 3/5
Not really my thing but I can appreciate its importance. 3/5
Love Billy Joel. Still hate songs over 6 minutes. 4/5
This was fantastic. 5/5
I thought the production was cool at first...but got tired of it after the first few songs. 3/5
Feeling very meh about this. Not my thing, but I can appreciate it for what it is. 3/5
There were some interesting songs here... Look, call me uncultured or whatever, but I prefer the Bee Gees disco shit. 3/5
Huh. What a nice surprise. I had never heard of this band before and, based on the album cover, I was not looking forward to this. I'm shocked by how much I liked this and more shocked still by the fact that I actually knew one of the songs. I'm pretty sure I've heard it on a commercial or something...but still. Great track. 4/5
Honestly, I only listened to like 4 songs. Not for me. 2/5
Why. Do. All. Of. These. Albums. Sound. The. Same. I was happy to see an 80's album after getting a seemingly endless stream of albums from the 60's. Specifically 1968 for whatever reason. Imagine my disappointment when I listen to this and realize it sounds like it's also from 1968. I didn't hate it. But please stop giving me this stuff. 3/5
This was fine. Redding's voice is amazing, of course, but I got bored. It's becoming increasingly clear that the author of this list thinks the only good music came out of the 60's... 3/5
Not really my thing, but it was catchy. 3/5
I liked the music...didn't really care for his voice though. 3/5
I've never heard of this artist before. It's one of the best albums I've listened to so far on this list! 4/5
Superstition. Enough said. 4/5
This is great. Yeah, some of the songs sound a lot alike, but this sound is right up my alley. 5/5
Meh. Okay I guess. 2/5
One song was okay. The rest were wayyyyyyy too long. 2/5
Maybe stop giving me Bowie albums. 2/5
Booooooooooored. 2/5
Meh...not terrible, but not for me. 3/5
I liked it a lot at first, but I got bored after a few songs. 3/5
I couldn't listen to most of it because the bulk of the album wasn't available on Spotify. I'm not upset...what I heard wasn't great. 2/5
I'm a big fan of classic country...not so big a fan of Willie Nelson though. Honestly though I was so happy not to have to listen to another psychedelic rock album today that I ended up loving this. 4/5
Loved it. 4/5
Well, that was an experience. 3/5
Call me uncultured or whatever, but I will never understand the appeal of the Beatles or any of its members. 2/5
Not a big Beastie Boys fan...but this wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. 3/5
Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. Won't remember it tomorrow probably. 3/5
To no one's surprise, Manson's taste in music was shit. 2/5
I liked the sound of this but I got bored. 3/5
Oh look, another album from the 60's I don't like. 2/5
Some of the production was cool, but I could not STAND the vocals. Overall, the project felt pretentious as hell. This was my 100th album and it was a let down lol. 2/5
No. 2/5
I liked the first song and thought I might not actually hate this album. I was wrong. Also, what in the psychedelic hell was that cover of Will The Circle Be Unbroken? 2/5
Might have been a 3 if the vocals weren't so annoying. 2/5
I didn't listen to much of this. Wasn't bad...not really my thing though. 3/5
I thought I was going to vibe with this a lot more than I did. It was just okay. 3/5
I never really considered myself a jazz fan but this list is proving otherwise. 4/5
I'm getting a little tired of every other album on this list being by Bowie. 2/5
This album wasn't available on Spotify. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been my thing anyway...so I'll give it a 2/5.
Classic. 4/5
I didn't hate it, but all of the songs sounded the same by the time it was over. 3/5
I don't love his voice, but the melodies and songwriting are obviously great...even if I don't completely get the meaning of every song lol. 4/5
Half of these songs were weird, half were okay. So 3/5 I guess. Vagabond Holes? TF was that??
Where Is My Mind? is really the only song that I liked. 2.5/5...rounded down to 2.
Obviously I've heard "Every Breath You Take" before (who hasn't?), but I hadn't listened to this album in its entirety. I was excited... It started off strong. Then "Mother" happened. That kinda took me out of it a bit, but "Every Breath You Take" and everything that came after was pretty good. 4/5
One of the best albums I've ever heard. I get the hype now. 5/5
Um...what? 2/5
Not a bad sound...but it all sounded the same lol. 3/5
I didn't expect to care about this album at all. Much better than I expected. 4/5
I love going to concerts...but I don't love live albums. Call me weird. 3/5
The only song I liked had no singing. So... 2/5
That's some...unique vibrato... 2/5
These vocals, man. No thanks. 2/5
Did I hate it? No Will I listen to it again? Probably not Will I murder someone if I ever hear the words, "Hey what's that noise? Do you remember?" ever again? You bet 3/5
The production is stunning. Stevie Wonder's voice is flawless. My only complaint is that some of the songs were a tad long. 4/5
Look, call me basic or whatever, but I like Elvis. Yeah he was...problematic. But also damn talented. 4/5
I've never heard of this band but dang, this was cool. 4/5
Wasn't terrible...it just sounds like everything else around that time. And most of those songs were way too long. 3/5
The only songs that didn't make me want to rip out my ear drums were the songs with no vocals. 1/5
