The TheI liked the first album on the list better, but still very good
I liked the first album on the list better, but still very good
Just not into Birmingham reggae sorry
tfw you're listening to a Throbbing Gristle track but then you realize that actually someone just sent a fax to your voicemail inbox by mistake
Unique set of songs from a guy that defies genre by going somewhere between rock and modern sea shanty
How I know it's good: * Mostly bangers, and the ones between were still pretty great * I was surprised when it was over, felt too short * 80's guitar
I've never really connected with most of the Stones' work. Their sound defined a lot of bands to follow, and they definitely have some great hits. I think it boils down to this: The Stones listened to early southern blues and rock and made more of it. The Beatles listened to the same thing and made the next thing.
Dig the retro sound.
I was ready to write this off as "post-peak" Green Day since I'd moved on by American Idiot. But it's a great album, and uses "album" as a concept. This continues to be peak Green Day
Being in high school in the 90's, I will never overcome a pro-Nirvana bias. But knowing what I know now about performance and production, how did this ever get made? - A lot of the guitar playing barely counts as guitar playing - You hear every sloppy note and squeal - Half the singing is screamed into a blown-out mic And IT'S AWESOME. Kudos to whoever had the sack to let Nirvana be Nirvana and put it on a record.
Twee British Chumbawumba-ass one-hit album
I suppose this is where grunge went after grunge. I'm sorry, but I didn't go with it.
Good piano along with some happy Germans in the background
I unexpectedly grew muttonchops and a mustache while listening to this.
Where Rock started. Enjoyed this more than I would have expected
Listened to it while coding and it kinda blended in to the background. So... OK?
One of the best albums from one of the greatest rock bands
About half of these songs have aged into cliche, but just because they’re pretty good.
Peak Stevie
Me: Why did you give Supergrass a 1-star but you like Pink Flag My Brain: ...
Literally every song has been played non-stop since 1980
I was all ready to complain after the first track about how this just sounds like the inside of a Brazilian steak house, but I’ll be damned if I wasn’t having fun the rest of the time.
What do you get when you combine a proto rock band with a jazz quintet full of band kids? Apparently every 70’s sitcom theme song. +1 star for the jazzy bits.
Not a big punk guy and the atonal melodies got old but the instruments are great
My favorite member of this band was the Eventide H9 delay and reverb unit. I was also in retrospect too harsh on Guided by Voices
Solid singer song writer from the same musical movement as Cat Stevens and Jim Croce
Just fun old school hip hop
This is our first Spanish album. I'm ignorant so I would probably need a cultural trip sitter to tell me why this is an important album, but I enjoyed the upbeat vibe regardless.
Bob Marley but bluesy? Sign me up.
“Kanye is a mess, why is he famous?” This is why he’s famous
I liked the first album on the list better, but still very good
Lots of yelling, and the instrumental equivalent of yelling. I'm for it.
OK, but someone needed to invent reverb.
Just not into Birmingham reggae sorry
This is what the 70s would sound like compressed into a marble
“Alright lads, we got us a saxophone man for ‘is one, so let’s bloody well use ‘im, yeah?”
I was only vaguely familiar with this band before this. I’ll probably keep it that way
Roxxy music was moldy, bad 70's. This is awesome 70's
I'll probably get in trouble for this one, but I've just never been able to get in to Radiohead. This is a very chill album, great to have on in the background. But if Benadryl made a sound, this would be it.
Good 80s vibes. You can hear a lot of the bands they influenced
Good Pumpkins
Album is good, Sting may be in the running for coolest dude to ever do it
Nah
Cream is pretty good. Shame Clapton is an armpit
Favorite album of what we’ve listened to so far
I had forgotten that Depeche Mode is great
Maybe a top ten all timer
I didn’t think I liked Fiona Apple. Turns out I do like dem apples.
tfw you're listening to a Throbbing Gristle track but then you realize that actually someone just sent a fax to your voicemail inbox by mistake
A bit like the Throbbing Gristle album, but these guys went, "Hey, what if we made it good and fun?"
Very different album from Regatta de Blanc. I would say that album was more consistent, but this one had higher highs, including a couple of Police all-timers (Every Breath, King of Pain)
It has THAT Black Sabbath song on it. And you don't even have to know which one I mean by that.
Required listening for learning to improv on guitar
Always enjoy an 80's synth, but this is a little too mellow and same-y for me.
Weird Bowie is still good. Might be the Bowie-est Bowie album so far
Something feels disingenuous about an Irish band that’s trying to sound like it’s from Philly. But the back half of the album felt more like just having fun rocking out, and it won me back.
Ray Charles is great, band is great. Awesome early R&B
The music started and I was like, "Ok... 😀" Then the vocals started and I was like, "Oh, ok... 😐"
Liked it more than I expected. Somewhere in between Crash Test Dummies and Cake
I had sworn I've never hear Fleet Foxes before, but I did recall hearing "Your Protector" before once I got to that one. Not my usual thing, but I really enjoyed it. Lovely example of modern folk.
Sometimes I think, “I’m too mature now for loud guitar songs about decay n’ spiders n’ shit”, and then I listen to an album like this and I’m like, “hell yeah, decay n’ spiders n’ shit” 🤘
Just a great example of a live album from a all-timer
Initially wrote this off as another 70s British punk album, but it is a fun 70’s British punk album
Properly funky funk
Yep, that's definitely Meat Loaf
Good album. Wonder when we'll get the next Kendrick/Drake collab?
He's mostly singing about social and environmental issues - so why do get the get the distinct impression that this album is trying to seduce me?
Lots of songs on here that are tired from being overplayed, but that’s its own compliment in a way
Old-school hip hop that still holds up
This whole album was just great. Vibes of early U2 and INXS. Loved the clean Vox-y sounds and long instrumental jams.
Listened to it on a long drive and it was good vibes
Here's the thing about listening to Jimi albums in the modern day: he was throwing a lot of stuff at the wall, and a lot of it stuck. It changed how music sounded after. But some of it didn't and became that kind of navel-gazing drug-fueled stuff we associate with lava lamps and flower prints. So the album is a mix of absolute classics and stuff that comes across as fairly weird.
Not the best Stevie album. But that still makes it a great album
This sounded *very* nineties. In a good way.
This is just a generally great root-rock album
Absolute all-timer
I don't listen to the Pixies much. This album explains to me why I'm wrong.
I hadn't heard PJ Harvey before, but I definitely will again. Great album.
Like a lot of early rock, this is one that was good at the time but just doesn’t hold up to modern listening. Gets an extra star for the instruments on Help Me Rhonda
The album you bought when you heard the Woo Hoo song, and then none of the other stuff was like that.
First half was pretty good. Not Bowie's best, but still Bowie. Other than Heroes, I don't know that there were a lot of standout tracks. A lot of the B side was instrumental-only stuff that was probably really cool in 1977 but sounds like a track off the Subnautica soundtrack in 2024. Really good for 70s/80s electronic music, but of its era
Here's the deal. I listened to this whole album yesterday. Today I had to go back and play snippets to remember it. Maybe that's on me, but it just kinda sounded like early 2000's rock. I'd go to a show but it just sounds a lot like a lot of other bands.
Unique set of songs from a guy that defies genre by going somewhere between rock and modern sea shanty
Not my favorite ever but still a really solid Bowie album with some all timers on there. Previous criticisms of 70s electronica apply here, but to a lesser degree.
Fun album. couple of all-timers on there
Zeppelin is one of my favorite bands, this is one of their best albums
One of the first albums where the Beatles started to find the sound that would make them one of the all-time greats.
Overall a really solid album, but it's crazy how much more work it feels like went into "Constant Craving" in terms of production and layers.
Kinda wild to be watching the Olympics and Snoop is America's mascot, and then getting in the car and Snoop is on the track talking about how he and Dre are going to kill Eazy-E
I'll admit that before this I thought the Cocteau Twins were like Youtube content creators or something.
Straight ahead blues with a bit of 90s in there
The theme of this album is “Adele is an amazing singer”. That theme works because Adele is an amazing singer
A bit mellow but there are some classics on there
Not my fave Tom Petty songs, but a pretty solid first album
