Hearts And Bones
Paul SimonThis album has the stupidest lyrics I’ve ever heard. “Allergies” and “Cars are Cars” too the list.

Iconic for me. I could listen to the whole album with each song in a row or pick and choose. The best.
The fathers of punk rock! All the same beat! Love it.
The lead hit is all I really know. Never been a true fan. Mid rating.
Classic and can’t go wrong.
Classic anti-establishment political album.
Eddie’s a true talent for sure. One of the best ever.
Never have been a fan nor will I ever be a fan.
I think this is by far Stevie Wonder’s best album ever made. The classic harmonica songs made for easy listening. The most popular songs just take me back to my Moms station wagon reminding me of those classic ‘70s songs that would pop up on the radio. The theme for me was all about love.
Well unlike the last album this one flew by! This album came out while I was still in college. I have not listened to it’s entire length before because to me the White Stripes are known for their singles; Fell In Love With a Girl and We’re Going to Be Friends were memorable.
Greatest musician in Senegal’s history. Super soulful. Looks like this album put him on the map. Not something I crave to listen to. Truly African.
So I read that this album plays a significant role in what rock ‘n’ roll was to become. I’m glad it’s over! Super hard to listen to.
It’s okay. Not really into Costello. There are a few songs on here that I’d consider cult classics. I’m just not a huge fan.
I was a huge Sugarcubes fan. Bjork has a very unique and intoxicating voice. I’ll rate this at the midway point because it’s her first solo album and I feel she gets better after this one.
No more Jack White, please!
Cool drum beats. Never heard Pakistani music before except for maybe in movies. I know it’s not true but it sounds like Native American music with what sounds like chanting.
Interesting! Odd mix. Unique introduction of flute and small guitar rifts, with electric keyboard mixed with lyrics like, “I fuck you in the ass just for a laugh.” Not my thing.
I enjoyed this album. Really heavy with electric guitar. His jams are pretty long too. For 1990 he’s starting his own unique musical path. This album came out the same time as all the grunge stuff I recall.
A lot of these songs are very familiar. College years and in particular and this brings back memories of architecture studio. Right here, right now and Praise You were regulars. And this is my go-to genre.
Love this album. Takes me back to many memories.
Hated it. Sorry!
Sexual, soothing, warm, music that soothes the soul. I can’t think of another artists that evokes that feeling. Barry White falls in that category too. This album is such a treat.
So I hear a lot of this type of music where I live in the heart of bluegrass. And although I do now have an appreciation for it, the genre is not something that I seek. These brothers are expert harmonizers.
Love The Smiths. Not a big fan of this album but still enjoyed it. Morrisey has such a unique voice.
Love me some Beck. This album was one that I didn’t listen to all of the time but has some great beats and classics. Such a unique take on song construction.
So many songs on here that I know. Cool synthesizer sounds. I could listen to it again.
For hip hop, which I’m not a fan of, I could actually tolerate this one. Seems like they were early on and do some old school rapping. I’m right in the middle at 2.5 stars.
Graduated high school in 1991 when this album came out. Got to be one of the most influential albums during this time. Just for that alone I’m marking it high.
Classic!
I have never listened to this album all the way through. I know pretty much all of the songs. Such a classic!
Just not a fan of this guy. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great album with iconic groundbreaking songs. I was 11 years old. I rank it over halfway because I know this albums place in history.
Alright I guess.
Sounds like a mix between the Dead Milkmen and The Clash. Maybe inspired punksters?
Lovely. Fond memories. Fantastic drums and this is the Police’s best work.
It’s like a cross between early heavy metal and blues. Wow! Very interesting.
This album is right down my ally. Go to style. Love it.
This album sounds so uplifting. I’ve never been a James Brown fan and was first exposed while watching the Rocky movies as a kid with Living in America. He sounds so power and inspiring.
Slow and low early 90’s hip-hop style. Almost an inspiration for Will Smith. Not my go-to music genre but can appreciate their place in history.
Unreal that this 1977. I’m only familiar with a few songs. Good to hear them all. Very much a classic.
Not my band. Really heard sounds like John Lennon and The Rolling Stones. Karen said she saw a Kinks show in the ‘80s.
Reminds me so much of my trip to Memphis recently with my brothers. Experiencing his blues club and imagining him play on his own stage makes me have more respect for who he was what he left to the whole world.
Well, I knew more songs than I thought I would on that album. I know the band. I know their sound. An original hard rock supergroup.
I just don’t like this coke head! Nor do I like his music. Never have. Sorry!
I’m a Wilco fan but not necessarily a Bragg fan. But can see the influences and similarities. Mid way ranked.
Not a fan. Before my time.
Also 2 stars.
This album has the stupidest lyrics I’ve ever heard. “Allergies” and “Cars are Cars” too the list.
Not my fave.
Classic 80s sounds. Overall it’s a great album.
Really enjoyed the drums in this one. Really unique.
Not the Album or songs I know from Massive Attack. Easy to listen to.
Pretty hard to listen to.
Karen sang every one of these songs as I was playing it. She said you’d find her on the dance floor with this album. The last song being her favorite.
Interesting. And super political. And although produced in the early 90s all of his topics are still relevant today. Some even worse today than they were back then.
This album and Out of Time are the two albums that defined REM for me. They were both recorded around the time of high school graduation.
Very unique in the way they sampled the movie into this. I didn’t think I’d like it but it grew on me.
My brothers quote, “Muddy Waters is as blues as blues gets.”
Never really been a fan.
Hard to listen to, in the beginning. But surprised about the few songs that I recognized.
Classic! Last one is a good one! All I can say.
I only knew a couple of these songs. Classic 80s. Karen of course knew of the band again. Dance dance dance.
These guys make it hard to figure out if it’s heavy metal or alternative they’re making. I guess that’s why it’s on the list. Plus the 3 top 10s. This is a college album for me.
Quite a bit of musical genres in this one. Another end of college days for me. Know the album well.
Couple of songs that I knew but never will I be a heavy metal fan.
Love this band. Fan from the first album. This one though, has its ups and downs.
Uhhhgg! The White Stripes again. No more!
Revolutionary!
Ahhhh; couldn’t get into it. Think the Gorrillaz took inspiration? Or maybe the Talking Heads?
Timeless!
Another station wagon classic.
I don’t know a lot of these songs. Before my time really.
Great album. Fantastic voice, emotional lyrics.
👍🏼
It was okay
One of my go to bands back then. Not my favorite album though. I mean you’ve got Butch Vig! He had his hands in Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth. Can’t go wrong with that guy. Love Shirley too; she makes them so unique.
Not really a fan of this. African, hip hop, Caribbean montage crazy ass mix.
Really enjoyed this album. Had not listened to its entirety in some time. Such a cool transition between grunge and alt-rock.
I was surprised as to how much I enjoyed this album. I was doubtful because The Mother We Share is so overplayed.
This one one made me crank the volume!!!
Some good, some not so good.
Big fan of the music. But such an asshole.
😶
First time to completely listen to the whole album. Lots of jam music.
Not my cup of tea. 2.5 ⭐️
Always a good song writer, great singer and super popular. Might be a 2 to 3 hit wonder. But she definitely has talent.
I did not expect that type of sound from 1973. Billboards Album of the Year as well.
Hmmmmm. movie soundtrack and mostly instrumental. Why on this list? Just for the one song?
Didn’t like this one.
Some songs good and some not so good. Overall a decent listen.
This is not my go to Radiohead album but I enjoyed it. I think it’s the ballads that throw me off on this one.
Not of fan of heavy metal. Or even the beginnings of the genre.
Not me.
I am not so sure I had to listen to this before I die.
Always will be one of my favorites. Have listed hundreds of times.
Nope
So this is krautrock. I hear synthesized music and to be honest a psychedelic style that I’m not accustomed to.
Interesting listen for sure. Not so much into the psychedelic stuff but I heard lots of jazz, punk and rock music styles. And this album was released in 1966. I’m sure this influenced generations.
Easy to listen to. Classic album.
I liked it. It’s the beginnings. And if it wasn’t for my little brothers interest I probably would have ignored it.
Probably listened to this album over 500 times.
