Top notch boomer co-worker music
People love this and they’re not wrong
Is AC/DC THE quintessential cock rock? Maybe? Ironically, once Brian Johnson stepped in for Bon Scott, it feels like we started getting less cock, more rock. Though now I wonder if this hadn’t already begun by Highway to Hell, which is mostly great up until it closes with Night Prowler. On its own, the concept of lurking around in the darkness isn’t necessarily bad. Ninjas, Owls, Batman, and the Northrop B-2 Spirit are all generally beloved. These are not the night prowling vibes which AC/DC embraces on this closing track. But maybe the willingness here to fully embrace and explore some of humanities more problematic corners is, in fact, a good thing. Even if it may not appeal to my own personal tastes. I was gonna give this five, then Night Prowler made me think four. Now I’m seeing an opposite argument for it to justify the five. But ultimately, this is just my opinion, and personally, Night Prowler lost me at the end, so four.
I dunno, it was fine. Not really my jam
Pretty great. Outtasite (Outta Mind) and Outta Mind (Outtasite) seem like they’re based on the melody from the Sesame Street theme. Which is wonderful
I swear I’ve heard the Club Country 12” Version sampled somewhere. Otherwise this was completely new to me. But based on the art and year, it was exactly what I was expecting and it kinda ruled
Why do certified lowlifes make such great music?
Le Freak is such a bop. Couple other decent ones on here too.
There goes God
In his sexy pants
And his sausage dog
Ugh
Almost 5/5. Release is just a bit much at the end. Just quit while you’re ahead.
Some decent Bowie bops and a bunch of intriguing instrumentals
Basket of Light is kinda lit. In some cases it almost feels like peak acoustic music before it all became electric.
I don’t know shit about jazz. And honestly, the trumpet is probably not my favourite instrument. But I’m kinda starting to like it. Maybe don’t pay too much attention. Don’t overthink it. It’s pretty great.
If aliens—or current toddlers—ever end up asking what rave sounds like, this is the album. It is to rave what Nevermind is to grunge. And 30 years later, rave as a concept, activity and culture, probably inarguably has the larger global significance. Plus, personally, I love this album. It sounds like being 14 again.
Cyndi Lauper and Chappelle Roan are the same template
Pretty alright. Not my jam, but probably still a jam. 3/5
So ubiquitous that not having experienced it at the time it somehow almost seems like a parody of itself. Though I guess that’s part of being iconic?
Funky. Quirky. Lotta good beats. Solid 4/5 for sure. Could potentially see it growing on me to the point where it’s 5/5
I kinda put this one off, because I wasn’t getting a great vibe. But it’s groovy and bluesy. Consistently pretty solid. Feel like I recognize it as a record utilized in turntablism a fair bit
Seeing this album art as a kid, I assumed this was the hardest rock ever. As I got older, I realized that wasn’t what Meat Loaf was about. However listening to it now in its entirety, I gotta say, it rocks pretty hard. Easy 4/5. Could probably grow on me onto 5/5
Solid 90s (Brit?) rock I was not previously familiar with
A few recognizable hippie tracks on this one
Didn’t enjoy this one as much as some of their other work
Personally found this much less enjoyable than Holy Bible. Just kinda boring.
Not at all what I was expecting. Kinda like ambient drone punk? Some social commentary that’s still sadly relevant almost 50 years later
Absolute classic. Probably should be 5/5 but not quite maybe? Second half of the album loses a bit of steam. So like 4.9???
More engaging than I was expecting. It’s lighter, but still fun and uptempo for much of it. It may be soft rock, but it does indeed rock
Honestly not as great as I remember it being. All I Wanna Do is still a bop, but the rest is just… fine…
Listened to the expanded edition, as the only version of the recommended nine track (original?) I could find on streaming was the censored version. Honestly what is there to say about this? Game changing, genre defining, pure heat from beginning to end. Easy 5/5
Kinda interesting like blues-ish, honky tonk punk? I dunno.
Pretty alright 90s alt rock
Pretty solid but not Petty’s best work
My dad played this album a lot in the car when I was a kid. Very fond memories
Unique. Pretty groovy. New to me.
Iconic country and western
Kind of reminds me of Edgar Winter Group
The worst thing I can say about this album is that it’s not Nevermind.
Kinda sounded like the soundtrack to a forgettable 80s movie
I know this is one of the most popular and seminal works in modern music history, probably music history generally by extension, but I just do not vibe with it. It’s kinda weak and a lot of the writing sounds like it’s been done by children who have just been introduced to poetry as a concept. It’s mostly fine but not my thing
Honestly I didn’t love this. It’s probably a hard zero in terms where it falls with respect to my personal tastes. It’s like musical blue cheese.
