Cross by Justice

damn 2007? this has been in regular rotation for years. certified classic.

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers

this is the meeting-that-could-have-been-an-email of albums

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington

this concert went so hard the crowd was ready to riot for JAZZ of all things

1-Star Albums (7)

All Ratings (243)

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Jan 02 2025

There's a couple 10/10 tracks on here, and Clint Eastwood is a 12/10 for me, but the quality is not consistent, so a lot of the album feels like weird experimental Albarn filler. Bonus star for the entire virtual band concept.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Jan 03 2025

the energy and guitars on this are incredible, but I cannot get into the rush guy's voice

Graceland by Paul Simon
Jan 06 2025

You can call me unimpressed

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Jan 08 2025

I think I still prefer Doolittle but this is better than I remember. Lots of fun songs. Pixies are just not really something I would ever put on as an album personally.

Home Is Where The Music Is by Hugh Masekela
Jan 09 2025

now this is jazz! loved it but have to dock a star for the last track which completely killed the vibe for me

Smash by The Offspring
Jan 10 2025

you gotta hand it to em

Melodrama by Lorde
Jan 12 2025

it's fine. lorde is fine.

Rip It Up by Orange Juice
Jan 13 2025

The Manyika tracks are the highlight for me. The rest is crazy bland and boring.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Jan 14 2025

OK, look, it's a really good album. But for me this lives in the uncanny valley where it's too old to be novel but too new to evoke nostalgia. I can't separate it from the twee hipster bullshit of the late 2000s, and I've personally heard enough Sufjan for a lifetime already. If you're hearing it for the first time I'm happy for you. Maybe listen to it 1000 times this year and then come back in 20 years and see if you're still giving it 5 stars or whatever.

Illmatic by Nas
Jan 15 2025

felt familiar even though I've never heard it

The La's by The La's
Jan 16 2025

FINALLY a british rock band

Cross by Justice
Jan 17 2025

damn 2007? this has been in regular rotation for years. certified classic.

Hotel California by Eagles
Jan 18 2025

this album is like learning a villain's origin story and then you feel bad for them

Jan 19 2025

not beating the allegations that the editors ran out of albums and were scrambling to hit 1001 with this one. perfectly serviceable 70s folk rock, if you're into that. some of these songs are depressing as hell. +1 for the fun medieval horn, -1 for including a christmas song.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Jan 20 2025

crazy that this was as influential as it is unlistenable. "can't listen to this sober" ok that's because it's bad. every album is better on drugs, that's why people like drugs.

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Jan 21 2025

Important depression music

LP1 by FKA twigs
Jan 22 2025

would be 5/5 as the soundtrack to metroid prime

For Your Pleasure by Roxy Music
Jan 23 2025

brian eno considered harmful?? click here to learn more

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Jan 24 2025

doesn't get much more 80s than this. we should all aspire to be tiny turner at age 45.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Jan 25 2025

if you think you're too good for coldplay you should see a doctor

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Jan 27 2025

Remember Pandora? I used to play this game with an ex-partner where we put on a samba station while we were cooking and kept track how often it would just re-play Girl from Ipanema, or Só Danço Samba, or any cover of those. Usually once every 5 or 6 songs.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Jan 28 2025

I tried to listen to this while working and it stressed me out too much.

Heaux Tales by Jazmine Sullivan
Jan 29 2025

I don’t get the hype.

Violent Femmes by Violent Femmes
Jan 31 2025

this is hands down one of the best albums about being horny

Bossanova by Pixies
Feb 01 2025

Every time I listen to Pixies I have to stop and think, is this the Pixies album I like? They kind of blend together for me. Anyway, better than Surfer Rosa, but still prefer Doolittle probably. Wish I could give 3.5.

The Modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers
Feb 02 2025

this is the meeting-that-could-have-been-an-email of albums

GI by Germs
Feb 03 2025

this kicks ass, these guys rule, and I will never listen to this again. 1 star, but like, in a good way. 1 star is what they were going for.

Feb 04 2025

I'll admit sometimes an album gets a better rating from me because I was high

The New Tango by Astor Piazzolla
Feb 06 2025

this is like, the best you can hope for in terms of soundtrack music

Signing Off by UB40
Feb 07 2025

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Feb 08 2025

well my name's COFFEETRON and I'll MAKE SOME NOISE I gave five stars the BEASTIE BOYS

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Feb 09 2025

this shit works on me. it's the kind of music that makes me do a little dance in the kitchen while I'm making breakfast. maybe give my partner a lil kiss. I guess I'm a swingin lover! with that said I don't think sinatra works in an album format.

Feb 10 2025

I dunno man, there's flecks of gold in there but it's really hard to listen to in 2025.

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Feb 11 2025

Better than expected. I think if you go in sort of knowing what to expect from Bob Dylan, this is really good Bob Dylan.

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Feb 12 2025

elvis? more like “shelve this” album. I got bored.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Feb 14 2025

I didn’t care for this much back in the 2010s but listening now I get a different vibe. Beautiful album to sleep to.

fitter happier walked so that nano could call himself a dirty little bitch

Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne
Feb 20 2025

somehow felt like they didn’t try very hard

You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr.
Feb 21 2025

so this isn’t the guy from broken social scene? and you’re sure about that?

Feb 22 2025

Feb 23 2025

engineered in a lab to be 2000s movie soundtrack music

Channel Orange by Frank Ocean
Feb 25 2025

I can't believe I've heard like 3 great frank ocean tracks and none of them were on this. every great album should come with a tumblr post.

In Utero by Nirvana
Feb 26 2025

just doesn't hit me the same as nevermind

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Feb 27 2025

Mar 07 2025

this is another one of those bands that has incredible energy and is great live or as a soundtrack but not really something I’ll put on as an album to listen to in the foreground.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Mar 08 2025

kathy, debbie, joni, kim. a long time ago the 4 sledges lived in harmony. then, the kim nation attacked.

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Mar 18 2025

this album put me into a flow state. which is good for me but bad for the album's memorability.

21 by Adele
Mar 20 2025

adele is a great singer. it's too bad this album only has like 3 songs on it. would love to hear her do literally anything different.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Mar 21 2025

this is not my favorite beach boys album but it's a really good beach boys album!

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Mar 24 2025

[looks at iceland] I'll have what she's having!

Power In Numbers by Jurassic 5
Mar 25 2025

really fun listen. they don't make rap like this anymore, and on one hand that kind of makes me sad, but on the other hand, humanity has mastered 90s/2000s hip hop and we're ready for new things.

Abraxas by Santana
Mar 26 2025

I've decided that me and Santana are even, re: Smooth by Rob Thomas feat. Santana.

Blur by Blur
Mar 27 2025

finally an answer to the question: what if gorillaz sucked shit? - or - the waiter keeps coming around with a big pitcher of damon albarn trying to “top off” everyone, and you have to put your hand over your glass to stop him. you’re not really full but have plans for something better later.

Green by R.E.M.
Mar 28 2025

it's giving they might be giants if they just played it safe

A Hard Day's Night by Beatles
Mar 29 2025

definitely a weaker beatles album but if you listen right after new boots and panties it's fucking gold

Apr 01 2025

you can tell it was super influential but I don't feel like it holds up for me having heard what came later. aretha's respect is just better.

Fragile by Yes
Apr 02 2025

they must have had a lot of fun making this

Grievous Angel by Gram Parsons
Apr 04 2025

Apr 05 2025

[pointing at my old-timey record player doing poggers face] they did the blues thing!

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Apr 10 2025

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Apr 11 2025

https://rateyourmusic.com/music-review/MystyLakes/elvis-costello/brutal-youth/246425351 He’s not even the main Elvis!

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Apr 19 2025

easily one of the radiohead albums of all time

Yeezus by Kanye West
Apr 20 2025

MUSICALLY I am super ambivalent on Kanye. I loved a lot of the production and instrumentation. There's no way that knowing the lyrics will improve this for me so I am happy in my ignorance. ADDENDUM: I will look into the lyrics one day. Happy 420 Easter everybody.

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Apr 30 2025

monkey man mid music. 3 banana out of 5.

Elvis Is Back by Elvis Presley
May 02 2025

elvis's band is back. on every single track somebody put their whole pussy in 300%. even elvis.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
May 03 2025

amy amy amy more like samey samey samey

May 10 2025

felt like it wanted to tell a story, like a movie soundtrack, unfortunately that made it kind of feel like there was a piece missing to me.

Play by Moby
May 20 2025

I used to have a friend that was really into Moby and then at some point they announced they were sick of people in a certain industry even though we both worked in that industry and then basically broke ties and would never hang out again. They still do that same job but act like they’re above it. Does this say something about moby? Anyway the tracks that I’ve heard are worn out and the tracks that I haven’t are just OK.

Tragic Songs of Life by The Louvin Brothers
May 22 2025

the lore is 5/5, the music is 2/5 the religious imagery is 6/5

Beautiful Freak by Eels
May 23 2025

classic nostalgia-invoking shrek music

Run-D.M.C. by Run-D.M.C.
May 28 2025

another influential album that doesn't really stand out by today's standards if you heard it in a vacuum. side note: more tracks need to use a snore sample, I wish that caught on

Beach Samba by Astrud Gilberto
Jun 01 2025

should have been an EP. -1 for circus music.

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Jun 13 2025

Doolittle by Pixies
Jun 17 2025

that's my favorite pixies album, baby. still holds up.

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jun 20 2025

S+ tier music, solid gold from start to finish. wish you were here is the weakest song and it's a great song.

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Jun 21 2025

I was pleasantly surprised, the first side had a lot of tracks I knew and the back half was a chill listen.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Jun 27 2025

exceptionally mid, gave me hints of other bands I'd rather be listening to. american girl is alright but was overplayed and ruined by classic rock radio for me.

Jun 28 2025

don'tstopmenowcore. real main character feeling music. this would crush on an ipod touch with wired earbuds.

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
Jun 29 2025

track 1 is an incredible song. after that it kind of goes off the rails. not every single song has to be an epic ballad guys! do some chill ones! also it's a real tough time to listen to a song called israel

Imagine by John Lennon
Jul 16 2025

all 10 songs have wikipedia articles

Jul 20 2025

you can say a lot of things about noel gallagher, but this album has 3 incredible tracks that are each worth a whole star.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jul 21 2025

5 bleeding hearts out of 5

Purple Rain by Prince
Jul 22 2025

prince has always felt weirdly alien to me in that he is universally loved and I just don't get it. enjoyed a few tracks, but not the popular ones?

E.V.O.L. by Sonic Youth
Jul 23 2025

sonic youth is fun to listen to

Murmur by R.E.M.
Jul 26 2025

I guess they're called REM because this album put me to sleep!

Jul 27 2025

excellent sunday morning listen. *almost* redeems paul simon?? loses an entire star for the hand clap live track

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Jul 28 2025

I don't think compilations should be allowed! but it was fine. good chill listen for a sunday morning.

L.A. Woman by The Doors
Aug 02 2025

I can't stand jim morrison but there are some groovy instrumentals on there, and they get at least half a star from riders on the storm. storm sfx still hold up weirdly.

One World by John Martyn
Aug 03 2025

obscure british shit again. they should have let this guy catch his breath and drink some water before recording.

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu
Aug 08 2025

some great funky parts but it went on way too long and I got bored

Is This It by The Strokes
Aug 09 2025

good energy to wake you up in the morning without being overwhelming. glad they brought back the acab song.

Stankonia by OutKast
Aug 12 2025

hard to find any faults with this album except that it's kind of long? there's enough material for 2 pretzel logics in here.

Brown Sugar by D'Angelo
Aug 18 2025

groovy and fun the whole way through. maybe a little cheesy at times but that's OK

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Aug 19 2025

musically it seems like they might as well have been improvising, but the poetry is good, and cohen has a good voice, so it actually works.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Aug 23 2025

I don't really want to be a steely dan kind of guy but maybe I should stop resisting and just embrace it. It's a 4/5 for me on first listen but I see the potential for 5 in here and I'm giving bonus points for the duke ellington cover.

Vespertine by Björk
Aug 24 2025

Just an incredible tapestry of sounds happening here. I kinda wish Björk would release an instrumental version of this.

Aug 26 2025

this album is so good it enough has a couple of bad tracks and still gets a 5

White Blood Cells by The White Stripes
Aug 30 2025

wouldn't have worked if they were the gillis stripes. god works in mysterious ways.

Caetano Veloso by Caetano Veloso
Aug 31 2025

not sure what I was expecting exactly but it wasn't this. not bad but it just didn't hit either.

Led Zeppelin IV by Led Zeppelin
Sep 05 2025

Siembra by Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
Sep 10 2025

fun. would be amazing on trombone champ.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Sep 13 2025

starts off very strong, unfortunately looses a lot of momentum by the end. I rate it Yeah Yeah out of Yeah Yeah Yeah.

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Sep 14 2025

cohen's voice and poetry is the star here. musically nothing too amazing, but a couple tracks go surprisingly hard.

Crocodiles by Echo And The Bunnymen
Sep 15 2025

not really their fault that the whole genre of english post-punk just sounds like mud to me.

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Sep 30 2025

I like Harry Nilsson and this album has all his bangers on it.

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Oct 04 2025

really more of a high 4 for me, but gets bonus points because I'm in a good mood

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Oct 07 2025

unfortunately kind of boring. all the singles I've already heard a million times from radio play.

Low by David Bowie
Oct 14 2025

it's named after the rating I'm giving it.

Guero by Beck
Oct 16 2025

5 stars if you separate the art from the artist... really wish I had not just learned that christina ricci did a fake accent on Hell Yes. subtracting 1 star for making me cringe.

Either Or by Elliott Smith
Oct 17 2025

not my favorite elliott smith but still solid gold to me.

Oct 19 2025

this is great background music if you're trying to get something done like chores, or cleaning, or maybe playing a hectic video game. maybe don't listen while driving.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Oct 25 2025

falls off a lot on side b but is still kind of a refreshing sound that you just don't hear anymore

With The Beatles by Beatles

a weak beatles album is still a beatles album. some of these covers are real good.

Drunk by Thundercat

it's reckless for all this talent to be in one place

Seventeen Seconds by The Cure
Nov 10 2025

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top

easily sound of gold if you ask me

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper

tragic listening to this now. soulful tracks. also not really my thing though, I kinda just don’t like her voice!

ethereal, haunting. rating this feels like rating bowie's death.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire
Dec 22 2025

I didn't see it then, but I kind of see it now.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Dec 24 2025

unquestionably the 4th best beatles album

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jan 03 2026

some quintessential americana here, too bad we live in dystopia now and they don't make shit like this anymore

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jan 06 2026

for dads with vinyl collections, this is the best music you could ask for. a couple forgivable duds, recovered by a bonus star for the ack-ack-ack-ack line which is worth a whole star by itself.

Fun House by The Stooges
Jan 07 2026

a sound as raw and leathery and gross as iggy pop's disgusting human body

Lady In Satin by Billie Holiday
Jan 09 2026

for a noir soundtrack, 5/5. for other purposes it's just a little too slow for me.

American Gothic by David Ackles
Jan 26 2026

you don't see a lot of folks writing musical soundtrack albums so this definitely gets points just for being different. it's beautiful, it's dark, it's kind of weird, and I love it when artists make something weird. it's a 3.5 with bonus points for being so unique.

Arrival by ABBA
Jan 31 2026

sugar is sweet, music is fun

Dummy by Portishead
Feb 06 2026

incredible vibes for seems like such a simple composition. would be a great soundtrack if they ever make a metroid movie.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Feb 14 2026
