Goodbye And Hello by Tim Buckley

I'm torn between a 3 and a 4. I've listened to this album before and still put it on now and then, but truth be told, it's really just Pleasant Street and Phantasmagoria in Two that stick with me. The rest works nicely as background vibes though, since I do enjoy it. His vocal style is great, really distinctive, but if you're not in the right mood it can start to feel a bit samey. Also, I've got to say, I love the cover, and let's not pretend Tim isn't ridiculously pretty with those curls. So I guess it's a 4 then!

This album slithered into my brain, coiled around my spine and whispered: shhh, just feel it. This isn't just music. It's a full-sensory takeover. Hypnotising, oddly arousing, and somehow both soothing and wild. My ears are still tingling after that 11 track long eargasm.

I used to live and breathe this album. Every Muse record up to this one reminds me of my ex, though - it's as if all the feelings have etched themselves into the very notes of the songs. I don’t feel this music in my bones the way I did back then, but it’s still enjoyable, and definitely nostalgic.

The first track (That Lady) actually put me off a bit tbh, both musically and lyrically. But a few tracks were genuinely lovely: Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight felt more balanced imo, with more space to breathe – even if it leans a bit too far into soul for my personal taste... I totally get why it's considered a classic. It's such a rich production. The psychedelic guitarwork is beautiful. In fact, each instrument on its own sounds great - the vocals as well - but as a whole, it didn't quite land for me. It all felt a bit overwhelming, like too much going on at once and I kept losing track. Probably not something I'll return to often (or ever), but still glad I gave it a proper listen.

It just washes over me. I've heard Free Will and Testament before and really love that track, but the rest of the album doesn't seem to land.

Play by Moby

I'd never really listened to Moby before and had no expectations. (Though of course I'd heard the name and knew he existed.) Each song felt a bit like listening to a single sentence on repeat... Loved the sound, loved the sentence the first two, three - heck, maybe even the fifth time, but that's it. To me it would've been five stars if there'd been a hint of variation.

Highly Evolved by The Vines

I bought this record when it came out, just because I loved the cover, but I ended up falling in love with The Vines. I still love it, but I don't really get why it's on the list to be honest, hah.

I like the music and love the singer's voice, but the lyrics feel a bit forced. I'm not really into that kind of writing.
