Dirt-AIC
I AM BIASED
Alice In Chains drew from metal areas of punk like other grunge acts
This album was the last before the lead singer got really addicted and struggled with drugs, and the habit eventually killed him. You can hear the beginning of pain in this album
the riffs and distorted guitar is insane, it still allows for solos though
Rain When I Die is beautiful, especially followed up by Down in a Hole, the lyrics are so depressing about this painful break up
Down in a Hole takes the Rain When I Die and milks the emotion out of it
Half way through there seems to be shift to depression rather than the stadium anthems of Them Bones
Sick Man is almost like an overview of the songs before it in its transitions
Rooster is written about Laynes Dad who fought in Vietnam that he failed to connect with. He cried the first time he was played the song
These might be the best lyrics so far
Layne Staley’s voice is overshadowed a little, but as soon as you hear it it takes over, he’s almost as powerful Chester Bennington
This album is phenomenal.
This feels like a toned down Dolly Parton. All the music is good, but nothing is blowing me away, and overall it feels much weaker than other albums we've had. Maybe it's just becasue I'm riding the wave from yesterday though.
Don't Forget About Me is good, a solid 8, this album does improve over time...this review could change with a second or third listen.
The issue is not that this is a bad album, but I can see a valid arguement it's not up to par with other albums on this list, or tht we've previously reviewed.
Instrumental for the growth of hip hop and tons of bangers, but some misses too. it's dragged down by them. a solid 6.5
Started the first half dozen song and HATED this album. I couldn’t understand it, the beats felt repetitive, the lyrics were cool but it didn’t matter since I Couldn’t understand them.
But I came back and understood it. I didn’t like it but I understood it. I could handle of one of these songs came on, I’d dig it, but it drones on after about a half hour. Maybe I need another listen though
At the end of the day I guess I can understand it but tht doesn't mean I like it.
Great diverse album. This mix is a 9, but the original may be a 10.
I didn't like this much, but the fact that this band used time signatures like 5/4 and 9/8 in 1959 is INSANE. At the end of the day I can understand if someone else thought this was a 10, but someone else isn't reviewing.
I'm Not in Love is a great shake up
I can hear how this band influenced Radiohead
Very wild and erractic vocals, I enjoy it though
I find nothing extraordinary in this album so far...(Finished I'm Not in Love)
This album is utterly bizzare. It's both great and terrible, on one day I wouldnt be able to stand it and on another I'd think music peaked with these guys. I have absolutely no idea how to feel. I think it's a true 7, but today I loved it. 8 I think today
I woke up and its a 6 never mind
I was so disappointed when he started singing
Sometimes I can't tell if I like these unique singers or hate them. I love the Smiths why don't I love this?
Maybe because it doesn't sound good
Love the original artwork, this album really does have it's ups and downs. I think there's a high probability I forget about it by Sunday though.
There are so many great songs on this album; Fascination Street stood out to me as an underrated classic, and it's clear The Cure isn't shy from letting the music carry you through as much as 2 minutes of a song before Robert Smith's yearning voice breaks through. Each song feels both unique and cohesive in a fabulous way. The album is presented and released calmly, with the intro and outro tracks, and overall, this is very well done. Incredibly, these guys have been doing this since the 1970s. Smith's voice is filled with pain and yearning, and it is emotion that drives this. Although maybe it wasn't pain, but the fact that he relapsed on LSD during the album's production.
Tom Morello's guitar work is insane; you can hear it a lot on Fistful of Steel
I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, as a 1992 predecessor of Nu-metal, and debut album, I expected it to be much messier.
This is very coherent and works well for an overall "protest" theme to this album. I couldn't really find misses, but rather things that were forgettable, although each track had highlights
great standouts like Bomb Track and Killing In The Name, or even the mostly instrumental Freedom.
A great first Rap-Rock album with absolutely insane cover art that matches the theme.
Feeling a strong 9, and it definitely holds its own against my 5s, so I think it'll be there.
Bouncy, fun to listen to
Great use of samples, but sometimess they feel repetitive or overused.
I think if somone wanted to listen to a production album, Endtroducing... would be a better option, but this is better for a "good time"
These songs are either heat or very annoying, mostly the latter unfortunately. I feel like I'll listen through 15 minutes of trash for 30 minutes of great production
Very experimental, I liked some but it took me a couple songs to get into the groove of this album. Not my favorite, It felt like the musical style wasn't best for Beck. It felt like seeing someone is poor-fitting designer clothes.
requiem is a great opener
this a grat punk record, one of the best I've heard yet
Great consistency too, this ones going in the rotation
Great debut record that crafted the beginnings of modern rock
vocalist is very balanced, guitar work is fabulous
Great standouts, Dazed and Confused and Good Time Bad Times
Maybe a relisten is necassry, but not my favorite yet, and I think Zepplin has better albums after, particulary IV
Walmart Bob Dylan
Never liked folk, never met someone who isn't either mental or over the age of 60 that does.
Excruitaingly mediocre for a top 1000 most influential album
Feels like old Weezer
Nothing bad, just sounds like something Uma Thurman and John Travolta would be dancing to in Pulp Fiction
Going from Just What I needed to I'm in Touch With Your World was rough
Very much a pop-product of the times
Feels like a drive-in theater
The beginning of peak!
Every groove is phenomenal; the only itch I could fathom is that harmonica, but this may be a perfect pioneer album. RIP Ozzy
Feels like a lot of effort to be this mediocre.
How did this do anything influential?
Surely this isn't anyone's favorite; it's so forgettable and formulaic.
Just so...forgettable. Good, but nothing about this stands out whatsoever.
The whole first part of it's description on wiki is that it came after a better solo song by the singer
I understand its influence, I'd be hype to hear this in an elevator, but as an instrumental album, I can't really connect to it, or see myself returning to this project
Great if I wanted to dance in an elevator though
Feels European
Has all the sound of someone who "thought their punk band couldn't do something this complex" and left the band, causing it to completely dissolve, and create this piece drawing from American culture.
Sounds good I guess
He was so busy being inspired by ther genres he forgot to do something new and creative...I hear a lot of other bands like Beastie Boys and Depeche Mode more than an original sound
VERY dated
somewhat repetitive
Turners voice is great
the most 80s album we've listened to for sure
Kid A if Thom Yorke took his depression meds and turned into an icelandic woman
Great and unique debut, with a sound brand new to the grundge landscapes of 1993, but I can't see myself returning to this project much. I can see the creativity and Bjork makes it work though
What a great album
Pleasantly suprised, first track and newspaper stand out, but overall a very fun listen that embodied the covid lockdown prety well. No real misses, maybe a light 9
Sounds like Geometry Dash
Baller displaced refugees refusing to conform to a jihadist takeover? Say less
Lamest lyrics yet
"really high like a really high thing"
Lock in bro
Very rough mixing, some standout tracks though.
Can't get past the mixing though, bass is much too powerful, and synths overtake much of the music and vocals to a point of annoyance
meh.
Goes from some of the best pop ever to peak mediocracy.
How do you collaborate with Stevie Wonder and not make a banger
I won't downplay it's greatness though
Aw crud, u2, the less good Coldplay.
The most pop-rock I've every heard, no real meaning, just somewhat basic music. The opening riff of the album not lasting more than twenty seconds ticked me off. That was the best part of this whole experience.
Good for the 70s, but not for me. Plays like a one hit wonder album
I wish the music was as good as the cover. Solid for 1971, but it gets old and repetitive. Very dated.
Stop talking to me bro your a singer.
Not a miss on here. Billy Corgan's greatest work.
Im so glad I listened ot the 2011 remaster and not whatever the other one is. The Deluxe songs have a stranger mixing, and drag slightly longer. The original is a perfect length, no song misses.
My favorite album so far, one of the few "perfect albums" on my list. Put this on a pedestal
Cool to see the beginnings of the Bad Boy/Death Row beef with the Eazy E diss
Sick song about the Rodney King Riots
For being a producer album, it sure does use the same stuff a lot.
BUT-what's worth noting is this is the beginning of the glorification of weed, money, and sex. Of course NWA existed before, but this was the popularization of it. From TPAB to Not Like Us if you will. Hip Hop is still carrying this stereotype, and it's not for it's benefit these themes began.
