Not the type of music I willingly listen to. My father does though, so I do know some of the songs from the album. It was alright, but I probably wouldn't listen to it again.
I'd already heard the 1st two songs on multiple occasions and enjoyed them, so I had some pretty high expectations coming into my listening session. The rest of the album didn't quite hit the highs of the songs "Band on the Run" or "Jet", but I still enjoyed it, particularly Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five. I'd definitely revisit some of the songs on this album.
I enjoyed it a lot. I would have to be in a specific mood for it, but I would definitely revisit this album.
I really didn't like this album. The first three songs were fine, I mean, Imagine is a classic for a reason. Jealous Guy had great instrumentation and was by far the highlight of the album for me. It was mostly downhill from there for me, excluding Oh My Love. One particular low light for me was I Don't Want To Be A Solider Mama. That song just dragged on and on and is the worst song I've heard in a while. The album felt like it was a lot longer than it actually was.
I enjoyed this. It's one of those albums where I wouldn't really listen to just one song. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The instrumentation and harmonies were great. A downfall of it is that the only place you can listen to it online, at least as of now, is YouTube. I did get an ad in the middle of Promentalshitbackwashpsychosis Enema Squad The Doo Doo Chasers because of how long it is (which is a bit too long, in my opinion).
This was hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed the folk songs on it, but didn't really like the more rocky songs.
I don't really listen to that much hip hop, so I didn't really know what to expect. Some of the songs were really catchy, although I probably wouldn't listen to the album again. I just couldn't get into it. That being said I enjoyed the song Light Another a lot.
I hated this. I don't know if it was partially bad timing for me to get this album, because I did have a headache the day that it was my album to listen to. Upon 9th And Fairchild was hell to get through because of that. That being said I also don't enjoy this type of music in general, so the headache factor probably only played a very small part in my dislike of this album, but it's still something to keep in mind. Wish I Was Skinny was a highlight for me, at least it was until I got to the last couple of seconds of it. A similar thing can be said for Thinking of Ways. For a lot of the songs there's a good song in there somewhere, but then a guitar screech will come in (and I do mean screech) or some weird effect and it just ruins the whole thing.
I was honestly expecting to enjoy this more than I actually did. I mean, Every Breath You Take is basically inescapable if you listen to a station that plays any 80s music. While I don't necessarily love that song, I also don't mind it. King of Pain is a much better song and also one that I've heard on the radio every so often, as well as the other singles. The problem is those songs just don't reflect what the rest of the album sounds like. One of the best examples of this is Mother, which is an absolutely god awful song. I was really tempted to give the album one star, but the singles made it get bumped up to two stars.
I just really don't like rock music that much, some of the songs were fine especially when they had more of an acoustic sound to them. Disarm, Sweet Sweet, and Luna were by far the best examples of that.
I don't have much to say about this other than I didn't enjoy this. The album would have been slightly better if the songs weren't so long. Doctor Please was especially a slog to get through.
This was weird, but not bad. I really appreciated that most of the songs were short because I imagine if they were any longer it would have made me enjoy this a lot less. The Chrome Plated Megaphone of Destiny is a great example of that.
I'd heard of The National before this, but had never heard any of their songs before. Honestly, while listening to the first song, I was anticipating not to like this album. I thought that the instrumentation was fine, but I didn't really like the singers voice. After hearing the rest of the album I decided that it wasn't that I didn't like his voice, it was just how his voice sounded on the first song that I didn't like. I loved the rest of the album.
I am in fact, California dreamin' on such a winter's day. I liked this album. It's a good listen for when you just want something more chilled out. That's not what I'm always in the mood for, but when I am, I probably would listen to this again. However, after California Dreamin' the album did start to get a bit boring. I just didn't like the last 5 songs that much. I mean they were fine, but when they're compared to the first half of the album, they just aren't as good.
I don't really have much to say about this album. I didn't really like it other than the song Gimme Danger. A lot of the other songs just sounded like the same song over and over again.
Some of the slower songs on the album were okay I guess, but I really couldn't get into the rockier ones, especially You Shook Me. I hated that one. I felt like it was kind of pointless for some of the songs to be as long as they were.
Based on the first three songs, I really thought that I wasn't going to like the album. However, when I got to Tracy's Flaw I did start enjoying the songs, at least until I got to Good Things Don't Always Come To You. While there are only a handful of songs I really liked, for a lot of them there were moments in them that I did like. The only song that I truly disliked was On My Hotel TV.
This was alright, but I can't really picture myself listening to it again. I don't really know what else to say.
I'd heard snippets of some of these songs before, so I had somewhat of an idea of what this was going to sound like. Honestly, I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.
