Maybe the best opening to an album I’ve heard in my life.
The highs of this album are incredibly high. Opening track rips, Rooster and Would are fuckin amazing! Vocally top performances in the genre ever. Second half of the album drags for me, a few skip songs too many.
Incredible Sunday morning record! No wanky jazz solos. Track 9 has some scatting, which I have a hard time not gigging to.
A great “set it and forget it” album… no big standouts, but a lovely vibe throughout.
First 5/5 album of this listening experience. A truly perfect album. No misses
Sleepy dreamy alhum… requires more listens. Last track, Saturday sun is the standout and it’s amazing
Such an important record in my life. The b-sides are so fucking good. Sorrow! Like a great film, every listen I find something else I love.
Some of the most wonderful songs… fox in the snow, if you’re feeling sinister make this a 4 star album alone
I loved how this album feels like a fuckin team coming to crush your soul. Like THE U in the 80s. Loved it … relentless confidence
Loved it! I usually pass on jazz. This album’s rhythm section is excellent. First track is a standout for me.
I loved it. All I ask is heartbreaking and a great bsides . Hello is a 10 beller
I thought an adobe software AD was a part of the album. That’s how little I enjoyed this sample riddled boring ass album. First clunker on the list.
Not quite John Denver. Not quite Simon and Garfunkel. Not quite Jackson brown. Not quite Hayden… not quite right. The covers on this album are so fuckin bad.
Ugh such a disappointment. Faith is a great opener, and maybe the only good song on the album
All killer no filler. Forgot how amazing this album is. It’s not quite weezer blue album…but even the deep cuts are great on here.
I need to listen to this more! But it’s a great vibe throughout
Last track is special
Some of the vibes were cool. I enjoyed the opening to the album. I couldn’t stomach the lyrics on many of the tracks.
I wish I could give .5’s blitzkreig bop rocks. I actually like the production sound. Too many songs sound the same.
I really was not in the right mood for this album all day. I can see some moments of appeal, but I hated the experience of listening to this album. I was feeling off kilter and messy all day, and this only made it worse! I may go back to listen another time.
But man… it really made me worse.
I hated the vocals so much it was barely bearable. Barely!
Fackin great vibes. In the right mood, perfect.
Incredible album. Similar to Leonard Cohen’s last album. Just a true artist till the end. Lazarus is one of my favourites songs period, and his best 21st century song.
Meh… I get some good vibes here and there from the rhythm section. But overall, meh.
Great example of a band and album I would never listen to if not pushed by this adventure. I really enjoyed it, was breaking ice up and shovelling snow outside my house and it was the perfect audio fuel. I also enjoyed the more political resistance in the lyrics. Much more intense than I woulda thought. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the last song on the album and not much else
This is an album I want to spend more time with. I can see so many influences on bands I love coming from this band/album.
Super weird, but in a fun way. Very late 60s Beatles vibes. The last track is truly bananas. I liked it.
I got more into it as it went along. The world is a ghetto is such a great track. I was singing along by the end of the song.
Something about this album that made me feel allergic to it. I barely got through it.
I’m so happy this album was thrusted upon me. I’ve never spent any time with this record and I loved it! I love how many directions it goes, with so much variety. In the Light leading into bron-yr-Aur is sooooo lovely.
Incredibly eclectic album that set the tone for the 21st century in sampling, bending genres… some real jams in here. There’s some stuff that I rubbed against, I wish I could give it 4.5.
First couple tracks smashed hard. Lyrics are a despicable often, but maybe that’s the point? I don’t know, I never lived in the COMP in the 90s.
Loved the experience. What I was hoping for, for an Elvis record.
Really enjoyed this listening experience! Loved Time song a lot. Great vibe all around.
I feel like I coulda been in this band for like 2 weeks during university. I don’t hate all of it. I kinda like the scrappy madness. And my adhd enjoys the song lengths.
Really enjoyed this Bowie album I’ve never heard! Time is great… an overall excellent vibe.
Some good vibes and some decent songs. Kinda bored after awhile.
I love this album so so much. It’s fun, it’s funny, it’s dark, it’s grimy, it’s sad, it’s the fuckin best. I want to be in this band between the ages of 23-38. Fairytale of New York is a top 10 song in my life.
Some cool ideas here. I really liked the “eau de bedroom dance” song… some songs really annoyed me though. 2.5 in reality
Enjoyed it from start to finish. Simple production, but tight. Not a lot of waste on this record. I get that this is in the pantheon of hip hop record.
Some fun moments. Cool production and subversion lyrically. Kinda meh here and there. I love the last track, say hello and wave goodbye. I heard it decades ago covered by David gray, very acoustic guitar sad guy vibes, and was astonished to find out these bangers wrote it!
Love it. Perfect dinner making album
Do you realize? Is an all timer… but I’ve never listened to this whole album, and it was a fantastic experience. I think if I spend more time with it it’d be a 5 star.
This album really grew on me. It may be a 4 star after a few more listens. I wish I could give it a 3.5.
Some interesting moments and ideas. The attitude is a very enjoyable fuck you… but also, no great songs.
They buried their best songs at the end of the album! Half blast is my favourite on the album, and it’s second last! Overall a fun album, I enjoyed it. Incredibly 90s.
What a fantastic set it and forget it album. No big song stand outs but a great overall vibe. Really enjoyed it.
This album kinda bored me. The bass work is great though… the bass bumped this to a 3 for me.
One of the best albums of the 21st century! Incredible energy and lyrical ruckus! Under the table is an incredible jam. I also loved the drums/percussion throughout. A truly fantastic album front to back.
I sincerely hope there’s more cure albums on this list. This is an interesting album but far from their best. Great dark drum sound especially in the second half.
I need more time with this record. I was somewhat bored at the beginning, but the vocal harmonies were great and the rhythm section in the second half of the record is really pops. I need more time. I want a 3.5.
Not my favourite Zep. Immigrant song leads off the record with a bang, and it never really maintains any momentum. Physically graffiti is just way more interesting to me.
Let’s get dowwwwaaaam baaabay 🕺🏻. There’s an element of this that feels almost like a parody of sex music. I did jump into the groove a few times throughout the record. And I respect the playing/production of the record. This gets 3 stars from me, but 10 bow chica bowwowwwwwwnns
Very cool vibe and groove throughout. Some funny lyrics, and a good album to mark or do work. Not sure there’s any big song that pops. Just solid.
I Fackin hate their name so much. I do dig the bass sound/playing throughout the album though. Lyrics are so trash.
This album is pretty solid from top to bottom. Some of the late tracks are great, Otha Fish has great samples… a much deeper/interesting album than NWA and tribe albums.
This is the fuckin reason I wanted to do this adventure. I never put the time in, and now, I’m gonna dive deep on Lou Reed. The production is so interesting and moving. Perfect day is amazing. The arc of the album is fantastic… ugh!
The fact that this album is a part of the 1001 albums is an abomination, and truly reduces my trust in whoever chooses these albums. Truly trash. Groove is in the heart… or whatever, is a one hit wonder.
This album is really hard for me to go back to. It’s definitely a 5 star masterpiece, but my ex used to sing many of these songs to me in various places and times and it truly crushes me to hear them… to listen to this whole album is something I do rarely because I know it’ll take me back in a truly bittersweet heartbreaking memories of full hearted loving. Goddamnit Joni… I guess I couldn’t drink a case of you and still be on my feet.
Another Fackin mediocre late 80s, early 90s Brit album. Objectively not a 1 star, but kinda fuck this album. And the most unnecessary hand percussion throughout.
Cool to listen to early clash! I thought the second half of the album was better than the first half. Career opportunities was my favourite.
Tough album to crush on a Saturday morning. But it was a vibe I enjoyed and made me laugh more than it probably was intended to. Tv party really hurt my feelings and I love that.
Funniest album title compared to the music. I really want to give it a 3 for effort, it’s wicked and weird and there’s a song that just has primarily broken glass sounds. Streetwise is an actual good song, great rhythm part. But there’s a lot of nonsense.
Enjoyed my time with it. Wild hearing the recorded “no woman no cry”, never heard that before. It doesn’t come close to exodus in my opinion.
Some real bangers. A legendary vibe/voice. Enjoyed listening to the rhythm section.
Ughhhh what a slog. There was one song where I could see it being a fun live performance, but I kinda hated so much of this record. Obnoxious would the biggest descriptor.
Ughhhhhhhh sooooo boring!
I’d give it 6 stars if I could. A top 5 any time record to put on. Truly a wall to wall perfect, quirky, fun, joyful record.
Great record top to bottom. Help me is fantastic as a vibe and song structure. It’s not my fav Joni album by any means, but it’s a good jam. Twisted is kinda hilarious.
I enjoyed this record more than Natty Dredd. Great vibes all around and maybe more political. Stir it up crushes
This album really grew on me. Lots of cool melodies and vibey songs. The second half of the record really moved this up to a 4.
Wow! These album blew me away. The lyrics, the intensity, the prescience. Totally a 5 star.
This is not a good album. There are some interesting songs here and there but overall, I think it’s a joke this is an album humanity needs to listen to.
Aptly named album. “Vow” almost bumped this to a 2 star, but the bad songs are so bad 90s…
Bit a slog to be honest. Also, we’ve already had two Marvin Gaye records and this is another one?! Come on! Completely unnecessary.
Loved it all the way through. It’s not rock of ages or the last waltz, but there are some amazing jams in it.
Fuck yes! Finally a worthy Fackin album on this list! It rips all the way through and has only aged better!
I’m pretty allergic to this style of country, and especially this type of voice. The chaotic honkytonk jam song at the end bumped it to a 2.
I did not like this album, I did not like this singer. Couple decent bridges, but I’m getting more annoyed to have to listen to what I believe to be average albums including in this list. A third best Sloan album is so much better.
I enjoyed it thoroughly! Some songs ripped way more than I’d ever have guessed for Roddy
I really, really like this album a lot! It can probably lose a few of the weaker songs, but there’s a lot of great depth tracks. Weeping willow, sonnet are really good songs. I’m flirting with giving this a 5.
Love this album! It’s not perfect by any means but it has so many great tunes and vibes. I want to give it a 5!
One of the best overall vibe albums that maintains a certain level of good. Not the best, but a great piece of art.
Some cool ideas and vibes.. but kinda meh
I like the album cover. I can see how this band maybe influenced a lot of bands I really like, such as wolf parade, or interpol, but I didn’t really enjoy the album.
Possibly the best start to an album of all time. Where the streets, into I still haven’t found, into with or without you, and bullet the blue sky. Truly an incredible side 1 of an album. The second half isn’t as good, but there’s no duds. The ending is great too. Objectively, the first four songs deserve a 5/5.
There are some great moments in this record. Little red corvette is an early Hootenanny favourite of mine… but there are large swaths of this record that I dislike a lot. I don’t enjoy the 80s lame synth production on most of the middle section songs. Free is solid. There are some pretty wild and astonishing vocal performances.
Uggghhh so lame! Even the one hit wonder song sucks on this album.
The vast majority of this album I’m pretty allergic to. I truly don’t understand how scratching adds anything to this music. It could be a genre thing, but it was a real zeitgeist fad that has aged like organic lettuce. There are a few tracks that I don’t mind. The two singles are alright, and I kinda liked “I miss you”. Overall… tough album to
Get through.
A widely eclectic record. Not a lot of really great songs, and what is this, the third Beck record already? It’s alright, but we definitely didn’t need another Beck record.
Modern day masterpiece?!? Incredible album start to finish. The textures and subtleties. A real headphones necessary album. Really loved it. Wished there would be more of these albums on this list!
