I’m glad I listened to this because I think I have a better understanding of my antipathy to Oasis. So, like, the song writing is fine and it’s catchy and all but it’s still Brit-pop with all the depth of a puddle. The problem comes with how deadly serious they took/take themselves and their music. It’s fine and that’s it. In other cases like MJ we have to ask if we can separate the art from the artist. For Oasis I ask if can I be bothered separating the art from the artist and the answer is a resounding not really. 3 stars

Blood, sweat & Tears is everything that (what’s the story) morning glory isn’t. It’s fun and eclectic. BS&T have something to say and the songwriting and musicianship skills to make you want to listen. There’s nothing that says “we fixed this in post”. It’s coherent, immediate, and joyful. I will definitely listen to this again. In fact I’m a little bit sad that it’s finished and I can’t listen to it for the first time again. 5 stars

Today I listened to my first Dolly Parton album. I don’t know anything about Dolly other than she’s Southern, has a heart of gold, and her tits are as big as her hair. The album was better than I expected. It was heartfelt at times and playful at other times but never pretended to be anything more than it was. Will I listen to it again? No. I don’t like country music. Was it worth the listen? Emphatic yes. I’m better for the experience. 4 stars

A complex concept album based on Cartesian duality; the physical rock of the body competing with, but ultimately helpless without the rolling mind. It’s a brilliant reinterpretation through thoughtful tracks such as “Let me put my love in you” and “You shook me all night long”. Who hasn’t suffered long sleepless nights wrestling with the paradox of the human condition? I know I have. Highly intellectual study of the duality of the rock and the roll. 4 stars

I’m sure the drugs said that making this album was a good idea. Boorish, thrusting, spandex-clad glam rock at its most vacuous. Listening to this was like the comedown without the high. 2 stars. Could very nearly be one.

I have undergrad and post grad degrees in both STEM and humanities so I feel sufficiently qualified to judge this album…. harshly. Vapid, boring, self-congratulatory. Common has nothing to say but says stuff loudly anyway. I hope I never encounter this album again. Be? Should’ve called it Not To Be.

The first second and opening notes are sooo fucking nostalgic for a simpler time. No smart phones. No social media. NFTs and crypto. Nigerian princes. Urgh. Things really got shit

I only discovered this album a few years ago but it immediately because one of my favourites

I just listened to Oar by Alexander “Skip” Spence. Had I heard of it before? No. Did I know that my life was missing psychedelic cowboy country/folk rock? Also no. This album comes on slow, a little unusual but by the time you realise how trippy it’s getting you’re already fully committed to the journey until it peaks at the end in a pink Floyd-esque blur of drums, bass, swirling colours and sound. Will definitely listen again

Mixed bag of weird soft 80’s and a handful of absolute bangers

Green River is chooglin’ enough for me to enjoy the CCR vibe but I don’t know which green river I’m in. Am I in the swampy bayou or the mosquito-y swamps in Vietnam? Who am I supposed to angry at? The man or the communists? Life can be so confusing some times.

I really like Sly and the Family Stone. This album always had a more menacing vibe for me. I enjoy it less than the others, probably because it’s a bit more serious. I’ve not listened to it in maybe 15 years and hearing it again was good

Oof… that was hard work… I’m handing out my second one-star rating. Why is it that Swedish hair metal guitarists can play ALL the notes and are rightly derided while Coltrane does it on a saxamophone and everyone is all … *gasp*… such genius. I’m calling it right here; right now… the emperor has no clothes.

Kids! This is the soundtrack to the opening chapter of your dad’s midlife crisis. He’s not as fit as he used to be. He used to be cool and carefree (in his own mind) but now he’s stuck on the downhill slide of corporate middle management. This album is what he puts on to remember… Overall it’s so generic I feel like the songs have been used in tv ads but I can’t recall what. Maybe a mobile phone plan? Maybe it was a travel agent selling package holidays? Cheap precooked sausages? Who knows? Who cares? 2/5 meh’s

That was the longest 38 minutes of my fucking life. Linkin Park are loudly milquetoast. Bravely saying “fuck you! I won’t do what you tell me!”… once The Man is safely out of earshot and before doing exactly what you told me to do. They should have cut their losses because the longer this went on the less I liked it. 1/5 I hope I never hear this again. If I ever catch my kids with this in their room they’ll be thrown out of the fucking house.
