Title track is incredible, the ebb and flow of the guitar is just divine, definitely my favourite song on there though Super Stupid closely follows, and You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks, and Can You Get to That, and Hit it and Quit it, and…
Haters will say the end of the album is much weaker than the first half but these people are just afraid to admit they liked an album that ends with fart noises
Enjoyable listen but wasn’t a stand out for me sadly. I did enjoy the reggae influences but Stings forced Caribbean twang was not for me.
Favourite song on this one was Bring on the Night, liked the rhythm of this one
What an opening, the sci-fi sound was quite unexpected but as a ‘techno that sounds like youre on a spaceship’ fan I bloody loved it.
Jump is obviously a classic but I must admit beyond that my knowledge of Van Halen is extremely limited.
Did enjoy the listening experience for this one, the music n instruments are just class, though it looses points for how much some of the songs (specifically Hot for Teacher) made me cringe.
Jump takes the favourite song spot on this one (sorry if that’s basic) I just couldn’t help it
Incredible harmonies wowee. Just a a lovely listen overall but would I bother listening to the entire album again? Nah
Favourite song in this one is California Dreamin (again sorry if that’s basic) the harmonies really shine in that one.
Really enjoyed this one, added a few songs to my soul playlist from here. Picking a favourite song was difficult but I’ve landed on ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’ - didn’t add it to my soul playlist but I just love how it builds and the almost haunting start so wanted to give it its place on my 1001 songs from 1001 albums you must listen to before you die
Love the white stripes. Great album but not my favourite of theirs. Really like their use of piano, acoustic guitar, and marimba in contrast with the electric guitar and drums - the blend of genres is done so well with each song bringing something slightly different
Favourite song was hard to choose but I’ve gone for Denial Twist - takes me back to listening to that on repeat in the school bus. Shout out to Poppy for introducing me to Jack White on said school bus
Pleasantly weird album today. Little bit of flute, little bit of distorted instruments, bit of a folk vibe. It was a pleasure Nico.
Likely would not re-listen to this one but did enjoy it. Favourite song is ‘These Days’ for me though ‘It was a pleasure then’ was close just a bit long
What’s not to love here, Smooth operator come on. Love anything with a hint of jazz, would definitely re listen to the album in full
Favourite song is hard to choose here, smooth operator is a classic but on this occasion I’m going for something new, Cherry Pie takes the top spot
Really enjoyed this one. Love a bit of a jazz influence
Favourite song is ‘head over heels/ broken’
(Ice Cream)
Good album just not enough bangers so probably wouldn’t listen to the full thing again. Do like radio head just not my fave work of theirs
Really liked this. Recognised more songs than I thought. Love a bit of a jazz influence.
Favourite song is Head over heels/Broken though was a tough call
Not likely to listen to this one again but was enjoyable overall for a car journey.
Song I’m adding to the playlist is ‘child in time’
Not the biggest fan of this one. Was hard to pick a favourite song as didn’t particularly enjoy any of them.
Added dark side light side to my playlist for this one
Decent bit of melancholy pop. Did loose me a bit in the middle then brought it back slightly, then lost me again.
Enjoyable listen overall and some good tunes at start of album. A trick of the light has to be my favourite off this one, brilliantly dark and some of the better song writing on this album in my opinion
Live some jazz, love some rock, love a bit of silliness, what’s not to like here?
Favourite song was close between a few but I’ve landed on ‘The Gumbo Variations’
Having to listen to this in full should be considered a hate crime. The misogyny and violence is astounding and as I’m not a teenage boy or incel I did not enjoy
That aside the wordplay, rhymes, flow, and beats are mediocre at best. Very same-y and I feel there are much better examples of the genre that don’t appeal to 14 year old edge lords
I don’t understand why this is on the list at all
Lovely bit of synth pop. Easy to listen to. Particularly enjoyed the music behind ‘So Hard’, ‘My October symphony’ and ‘Being Boring’ were also good tracks.
Would I listen to the album in full again? Likely not but I will be checking out some more pet shop boys songs following this
Can’t believe I’ve gone so long without listening to a Hole album in full despite calling myself a riot grrrl fan fr.
Liked it a lot don’t get me wrong but did fall slightly flat for me after the first track (I mean Celebrity Skin is a tough act to follow). Still listened twice in a row though and will be listening to their other albums
Very fun album. Enjoyed my listen but not one I would listen to again.
The end of each song was also slightly repetitive but it’s not a genre I’ve listened to before so it may be that’s part of the style or my ear is not accustomed to the slight differences
Bitter Sweet Symphony was the only song of theirs I’d heard of before and it’s an absolute banger so was looking forward to this one.
Turns out there’s a reason I hadn’t heard more from the Verve - rest of the album was just standard sad Brit Pop stuff.
Album went on too long and did get a little bored soz. Bearable listen and the songs are decent but beyond Bitter Sweet Symphony there’s nothing special here
Wasn’t expecting to enjoy this one as much as I did! Mr Willie has a real comforting voice, dead nice.
Will likely not listen to this one again so sadly cannot give Mr Willie more than a 3
Full of bangers. Loved the jazz and blues influence through the album. Just great
Technically it’s not bad, just a bit boring. Some decent melody’s and such but starts to really drag on with the second half of the album being quite depressing - fucking he’ll just realised it’s only 42 mins, feels a lot longer.
Don’t Panic is my favourite song and (not coincidentally) the shortest one
Enjoyed the punk leftist vibes of this one but could not understand a work my guy was saying without looking at the lyrics
Feels very classic 70s rock, some good tunes however I feel the covers I knew (particularly I Heard it Through the Grapevine) are just pale in comparison to the original
What a fucking tune Closer is. This album full of hangers, love how punchy n energetic it feels. Thought the length doesn’t do it any favours, each song is just a bit too long which makes listening to the album as a whole start to drag towards the end.
Weird jazz!! Lovely stuff. Each song has its own atmosphere, I see where he’s coming from with film soundtrack - some of it feels Lynch inspired fr
Enjoyed this one. You know I’m gonna be eating anything featuring a saxophone highly
Just a nice album really. Some good song and was torn between a few for a favourite.
Wouldn’t listen to it in full again, think it’s just not a genre I lean towards but did enjoy my listen
Aye not bad. Enjoyed it overall but felt some of the songs went on a bit too long for me
Can see why our Noel likes these so much. Yeah some of the songs are long but the conversational aspect breaks it up well and tbf I enjoyed it.
Seems quite a standard rap album, think I’m missing what makes it special/worthy of the list sadly
Straight up Björking it
Incredible album, full of bangers. Makes it very hard to pick a favourite. Leaning towards the more boppy ones on this listen so will be one of them
Still can’t unhear “Krampus I need you” at the chorus in ‘Crying’
First Soul album from this list, can’t wait for many more! My only critic is that the album cover is shite sorry Al. 5 star anyway
Not for me. Songs are a bit long and repetitive especially towards the end
Started kinda strong but very quickly I realised first impressions are misleading. Punchy start but entire album was uninteresting and samey. Topped off with shit vocals akin to guy from my office singing to the radio (sorry to my colleague btw) and I was skipping through songs towards the end.
Was hearing up to hate on the Beatles here as do feel they’re over hyped but what a fun little album. Mellow in parts, moody in others overall very pleasant
Some bangers obviously (Sex is on fire is just iconic) but overall the album didn’t wow me.
Pleasant enough listen but some of the songs were a bit same-y to me
