It was all downhill from here 4.1/5
good debut, hate them now
first listen. never been a big JA fan, but respect their place in rock history. this is fine.
the album cover and title track are stone cold classics. the rest - meh.
i love the cure. this is not one of my favorites of theirs.
stone cold classic
listened to this years ago and it didn't stick. it's fine, nothing terrible here. maybe i'll try again next decade
It's Fela. It's a Five.
not my thing but i respect where this was coming from in 1976 and it's importance in electronic music history
while i probably enjoy this a little more than when i first (and last) heard it back in '96, it's still not an album that anyone MUST hear before they die
first time intentionally sitting down to listen to Earth, Wind & Fire. 70's soul/lite funk. there are much better representatives of this out there IMO, but respect.
nah
at times it leans closer to metal than grunge for my usual tastes, but there is no denying layne's greatness.
enjoyed this more than the last time i listened to this album 6 or 7 years ago. some greats songs, some not so great songs.
i've never been a huge fan of janis but there is no denying the raw fuzz and rock on this 1968 release. and that crumb artwork! respect.
nope. one of my most beloved bands turned to shite. will not listen.
chill. this is the good stuff.
i LOVED the doors in high school. some memories are best left in the past. edit post listen: this is less cringe than i had expected. maybe that's just nostalgia.
not overly familiar with the temptations outside of the singles. this was fine. kinda drags on the second half for me.
pretty indifferent to bjork, but this was better than anticipated. still probably wouldn't reach for it again at any time.
been a minute since i last heard this one. it's fine. prefer my nico with the velvet underground vs solo.
hell yeah a lost gem (to me) that i hadn't heard since my friend back in high school would play this tape constantly in his nissan sentra. memories....
perfection
god i hate prog. at least i thought i did. this album kinda kicks ass.
i'd like to go to cuba some day
sometimes i wish they didn't grow up so quickly
happy to have listened - it's a great example of why i'm doing this project. but unlikely to revisit.
never heard this before. interesting how it sounds so far ahead of it's time. not for me though.
i'm big enough to separate the negative associations i have with this album and the people who love it and admit that for the genre - which i generally despise - this is a "great" album.
i was excited for this one. but nothing really grabbed me here as i'd hoped.
another one i was excited about. great spacy, trippy grooves -- but overall didn't dig the spoken word intermissions and it ultimately just went on way too long.
while i'm far from a Dylan apologist, a classic is a fucking classis. five bloody stars.
great
eh. i love the first few albums, but after that they are all the same for me: decent.
i remember the hype when this came out, and listening and it just wasn't for me. let's see if time has done it any favors.
update: nope, still not for me.
in the spirit of this project i will put aside my pre-conceived judgement and memories/associations of this and my childhood and older brothers tormenting me, and listen with an open ear.
ok this isn't anywhere near as terrible as i expected. big, dumb, fun rock. still don't think i'd ever reach for this purposefully in the future.
i didn't really care for kate bush as a youngster, but over the years i've grown to really enjoy her voice. but i never went beyond Hounds of Love. mistake, this is great.
i mean...i'm sorry, bruce just ain't my thing. i love a few songs, hate a few, indifferent to most. that said, this IS an album that one should listen to before they die.
love this album cover. love curtis.
i didn't want to listen to this. but in the spirit of "the project"....
more bid, dumb, fun rock. i don't hate it. childhood memories, etc.
i used to really like these, but then i didn't - and i had forgotten why. happy to re-visit, but i now remember why i stopped listening. just too much.
just re-visited this one recently, and it was much better than i remembered.
what a weird album. of course i knew the singles, but the rest? so disjointed, but i didn't hate it. one and one with this though.
never as good as the sum of CSN(Y), but still a good album
it's like a fun summer blockbuster movie. it's fine. once. would not care to revisit.
post listen edit: it's like that blockbuster movie that is way too long and you couldn't wait for it to end. this is just not for me.
great voice, historical importance, blah blah blah - sure...respect, but i've no desire to listen to this.
it's like the Pixies but without the good bits
i haven't listened to this since its release back in the day. what an odd (not great) time for british indie. i still don't love this. it's fine.
ok i enjoyed this way more than i thought i would.
it's a classic. not MY favorite, but a classic.
of course i know their hits, and i gave this album a cursory listen maybe 5 or so years ago, but wow it's hitting me today. classic early 90's new wave. and that album cover too.
an easy *****
it's fine. would rather listen to The Specials
i really really didn't want to listen to this, and have this sully my otherwise spotless last.fm account. BUT in the true spirit of this project.... it's everything i thought it was, cheesy, corny, hilarious, and i guess if i'm not taking myself too seriously it's pretty fun. sure, everyone should hear this album before you die. but it still sucks.
ok, it finally happened. after 50 albums i finally got one i just could not do. nope. made it two songs.
c'mon easy *****
typically i'm against greatest hits collections, but david bowie has been an exception. first full listen to this album and it might be time to reassess and be a bowie album guy
first time listening to a full album of Queen. it was nowhere near as bad as i feared. but it was still Queen.
willie is the man, but this is not for me.
i love the beats, love the samples - but man that vocal delivery has always been so damn grating to me.
it's fun. he's a child molestor. still everyone should hear this before they die.
pass
tried really hard at the time to like this, as i was neck deep in everything madchester/acid house, etc. but nah. still doesn't quite hit today either.
gud
great
another great greatest hits band. this is pretty decent, but their live albums are where it's at.
love sfa, great debut - but the best was still to come. will be giving this ***** just to battle the stupid reviewers on here
great voice, great stories, but ultimately to much of a plod for me to really enjoy all at once
classic, second only to the pj unplugged set
pass
great *****
pass. better than what would come, but still...pass
long overdue for a blondie re-assessment. this is a good late 70's new wave artifact. enjoyable.
this was NOT an album i needed to hear before i die
great
great musicians, a bit too long, not enough afrobeat influence
"São Paulo Confessions is an album by the Serbian-born musician Suba" = nah
want to like them more than i do. great singles band.
good live album, neil rules
way too short, could use three to four more songs
paired well with my morning yoga sesh
early beatles not my favorite beatles
clASS
it's just fine i'm sure, but...pass
i really do love Freedom. the rest tho......
great, of course
i've been magazine-curious. liked it enough to revisit again.
i was pretty tuned into music in 1994 and have never heard of this. gonna take a pass here.
yass
Lilith fair crap. jk i like tori, this is just too long.
love this era of hip-hop but have to think there are so many more to choose from over this
greatt
one of the better things about undertaking this project - made me appreciate bowie's albums more than just a greatest hits artist.
genuinely happy to revisit this. has aged much better than anticipated.
good but not my favrit EC rekkid
easyfive
sogood - 5 stars here just to even out the idiots
i can't
i try with this one every so often because 'the calvary cross' is absolutely perfect. the rest never held up.
3rd bowie album and just 10% in. this one is just ok
clASSSSSSSSSic
out my wheelhouse, but didn't hate it. reminds me of riding in the back of dad's chevy impala wagon
obvious talent, and big respect...but i just don't vibe with it
nah y'all some performative mf'ers pretending to "get" this. i do love that it made people legit angry upon release in 1969.
love elliott. rip
no
love this, but it ends here
i do love CAN, first time listening to Holger solo - let's see.... well it's about what i'd expect from 1979. interesting enough.
50 state project sufjan is the best sufjan
respect and all that, but still...just not for me.
there's better, earlier TVOTR to choose here IMO, but this is still damn good. 5* from me here just to battle the idiots
was kinda dreading this one. it's not so bad i guess.
recently came around on this one a bit
as a young teenager than loved new order, it took me a while to get joy division. but once i did.... perfection
and this is why i stick with this project - reminder to check out bands/albums i've always meant to check out. i love minutemen, so naturally i dig this.
nah heard enough of this in my lifetime to pass judgement already
i don't think i've ever knowingly sat thru an EP album. i don't mind this as much as i thought i would - coming at it with a 1956 mindset. happy to have heard this once before i die i guess?
