First of all, this album is really cool and I like it a lot. First time I heard it I honestly hated sitting through it but I’m actually feeling it now returning after all this time. Ten years gone, In The Light, Kashmir, The Wanton Song, and Down by the seaside are all fire tracks and it is 100% a no skip album. the question is would I return for a relisten? and the answer to that would be maybe in awhile when I forget about it. Its just not one that I would constantly be listening to. Due to this I will be rating it a solid 4.
I wrote this a long time ago upon my first listen: "Took me a long time to get into it but it was worth it. I listened to it at the perfect time enjoying every second. Amazing album hands down it was apparently influential to future rock. Very inspirational and a lot to work from. Some bangers too " right now I FEEL the music. Fav Track: Torn Curtain because its the only one that stuck with me.
I have heard of sly before, however I would have never guessed that they would have one of the 1001 albums. Track one, "Stand" gives off the sound of the Jackson 5 mixed with a funky sort of mothers of invention. Track Two, "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey," is one interesting track that definitely stuck out to me upon first sight of the track list. It seems as a contrast between two races, providing an example of the issues between the two. However it touches on a harsh subject that I wouldn't have expected Sly to pay attention to, definitely caught me off guard, however I am loving the strange distorted guitar sounds/vocals on this album so far. Track three, "I Want To Take You Higher", provides a catchy verse with good background vocals. A very easy song to bop to. I listened to the rest of the album and its all a blend now but its a very good album. I LOVE the funk. The repeating songs on the album threw me off at first but upon listening to them, I can say that they really just emphasize the overall message of the album. Which is: People are people. Perfect album, with no skips. However, was hard to get into at first.
high way to hell
highway to hell
way to hell
to hell

+ go hell

= this album is evil and satanic
holy... first impression is I have never heard anything like this before. The distorted funk of the guitar blessing my eardrums so hard. Reminds me of the gay hotel where me and Sean kissed for the first time. Its so sensual, funky, soul. Idek but this first track is making my brain just buss everywhere. 5:14 on Walk on by tingled my brain so hard my eyes rolled to the back of my head. My brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain bro my brain... so funky hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedelymistic HITSSSSS SO HARD. its tingling in all the right ways, the funky bass. I think im too excited over this album. Switching the drum tempos is sick too. Piano solo can never go wrong bro this is a perfect song. ONE WOMAN IM CUMING IM CUMING IM CUMING ITS ACTUALLY SO GOOD. SEAN HOLD MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. That was actually the most beautiful song ive ever heard in my whole life bro that was amazing. Last song is full of sadness and heartbreak, with amazing delivery coming down from the love surge of one girl. It shows himself evolving in this relationship, and slowly getting better and recovery from heartbreak. BEAUTIFUL AHH ALBUM IM IN LOVE. MY FIRST 5 STAR.
- I already love The Allman brothers coming into this so its gonna be hype af however why isn't eat a peach on the 1001 book...
- The guitars are already mad impressive fam
- definitely older sounding album, however still has that Allman lick that you love to hear
- Sen Sen Sen sean sean sean seahn seahn
- relisten quality not so good tho...
-CALIFORNIA DREAMINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
-MAKE UR OWN KINDA MUSIC GIRL
-uhh meh album ig other than some bangers, relisten quality not too high id rather just listen to carti.
-id crack the one girl tho
- yes thanks 4 reading
- super funkyyy
- alr knew give up the funk was a banger before this album
- realized the whole album is a banger
- funky = good relisten quality.
- easy to get into
- love the deep vocals with the funky weird guitar sounds
- just claps.
- we want the funk! Give up the funk! Nowwww
- im in love with the tone changes on the self titled track… and the lambbbbb lies downnnnn ON BROADWAY!!
- switches up in the voice is always hitting.
- this album definitely tells a story, reconnecting to lamb. A lamb can be used as a sacrafice for weird cult stuff which can be symbolism for something weird happening inside of this album. First the lamb lies down on broadway, then the carpet is lamb fur. Makes me begin to think that our character is trapped inside of some weird cult thing throughout this album. “ we got to get in to get out “ / the cuckoo cocoon / in the cage
- I also want to see take a second to appreciate the bass in this album. It hits hard and heavy.
- silent sorrow in empty boats basically just confirmed in my mind that this is a conceptual album, however upon first listen I’m having trouble understanding it.
- The light dies down on broadway, almost as if everything from the cult massacre was forgotten?
- Riding the scree, absolute banger instrument what the heck. Also makes me think of someone who is confused, or lost. Almost as if they have erased our characters memory of this incident that has occurred to him.
- “It” is a track that may be connecting to the events that took place, where he is now in a safe place to talk about them freely. That’s why it’s so upbeat and straight banger.
- overall this album is legit insane. The thousands of different sounds put into a 1 hr 37 min album is crazy. It was a great listen and I would absolutely listen again to gain a butter understanding of the story.
- never heard of genesis before this album but I am impressed, and will be checking out more of their work. Super unique sound and amazing album.
- opening impressions… I thought the album cover would be some Aphex twin stuff, however to my surprise its bass induced alt rock??? Sounds amazing so far and super excited to get more into it.
- so upon deeper research, this album has been almost like transformed into a new one under the same name of the artist. " Second Edition" by Public image Ltd. with a whole new cover too. idk why they would do this because I much prefer the original album, however we will just deal with it I guess.
- a famous redditer once said, "And isn't that was avant-garde post-punk is all about?" and to that I say hell yeah.
- Never heard anything like this before. I think that's why I love it. PropTones is hitting rn.
- really cool album however relisten quality low bc its hard to get into... Also most songs are ez skips.
- Radio 4 is like a resolution to the madness. Its a peaceful conclusion to the album.
AMAZING ALBUM. Some of the Beatles coolest / weirdest work. However some songs yk me are definitely lacking than others in the album. Although this album did change music forever, I would not say it’s the Beatles best work. Mad respect to this album. Would be a 4.8 if I could do .’s lol
“Squid eating dough in a polythene bag is fast and bulbous!” - Captain Beefheart, Paucho Cadaver.
This is like fricking crazy ahh album it’s almost as if they are just trying to shake up what industry with these weird sounds.
For most of the album all of the instruments are playing against eachother. However for some moments you can get some really banger moments, one reason I love and respect Zappa.
This is definitely one of his early works, where he is trying to put a message out there that he doesn’t really care. And he is just going to keep making music to prove people wrong about the rules of what music has to be to make it big. He is just doing what he loves not making any hit singles. It’s mad respectable and inspirational.
Fish mask replica is a very strange album with very strange lyrics and very strange instruments. It’s just weird, but when you need a super weird album this will do it for you. If you’re driving your friends somewhere that you don’t wanna go, you can throw this on at any time and drive them insane.
Fav song: she’s too much for my mirror it’s so like run it’s great
-Cool album gotta love some bjork.
-guitars were rly cool and tracks like cold sweat were cool when we get a different deeper male voice rather than constant bjork. Makes you value her voice more
-love the Icelandic tracks because they seem so much more passionate about the music
-how did Jordan not know who you bjork was.
-fav tracks: Dragon ( Icelandic ), Blue eyed pop, cowboy
- This album feels like a giant fever dream that I cant say that im in love with... its just a guy saying sad nostalgic things on a guitar beat.
- Maybe if I was on the verge of suicide I would love this album but day to day I'm just not really feeling this one.
- It would be better if sean was singing it to me at night before bed lwk.
- So found out that he was a French - Canadian musician that lived in Vancouver, and he liked to play chess in the park and stuff with the bums instead of living the life of a star. This is kind of weird but chill, he was a poet as well.
- I like this dude but would I ever listen to this album again, prob not it was weird and quiet and all sounded like the same tone. I'm the kind of person that doesn't look too deep into lyrics unless I really love the album, so first you got to catch me with a good sounding song then I will hear you out with the lyrics. Much like Pink Floyd, Dark Side Of The Moon. Where every time I listen I hear a lyric and interpret it in a different way.
- Basically what I'm saying is that this album is just not interesting enough o get me hooked. I feel that there is something there with the lyrics, however I just don't feel bothered enough to check them.
- Therefore this album will be given a 1 star. This is the first 1 star album I have given, just because its not for me. I feel that some people may love this kind of music however for me this is just fricked. If I could it would be a 1.9 stars, closer to a 2 but its definitely not a 2.
- Coming into this album just leaving some Leonard Cohen. I love surf, and funk to what I'm hearing from the first track. La femme d'argent. That funky bass line is already getting my head moving. From first view it appears as there are no lyrics on the first track which is another good sign. This means we are here for some good vibes / jams. Just checked it out the song translates to The Silver Woman. This title and the French assigned to it, gives you a sort of sensual feeling and something that you can rly get down to. Absolute banger so far.
- Around 2 years ago or so, I saw oceans 11 for the first time. I fell in love with the instrumental soundtrack produced by David Holmes, and he made some bangers like Million Dollar Chinese Man. This is already giving me those vibes. I have never heard of "Air" before but they have a very interesting sound and I am hooked already.
- Sexy boy is even more addicting than The Silver Woman. So the lyrics are sharp, and sang by two women? It sounds super cool. Safari reminds me of The Beach Boys --> Surfin' Safari / Safari. Brings good vibes because who doesn't love some beach fun. Only possible complaint that is lowering it down from a 5 would be the repetitiveness of the album. Seems like they are repeating themselves a lot.
- All I Need, opens up some lyrics that are quite unexpected. I thought the whole album would just be some instrumental beats / jams but idk this is opening up new possibilities. Beth Hirsch reminds me of the beautiful voice of Kali Uchis, almost making me feel that this song brings Tyler, The Creator vibes. The beat is screaming his name and the vocals are just bringing that up in my brain. This track feels almost as calming as "Find Your Wings" with a little more nostalgic vibe to it.
- Kelly Watch the Stars, sounds like a celebration or like a party time, hold on the vocals are giving hard Daft Punk vibes. These guys sound like Justice, Daft Punk, and Sigue Sigue Sputnik all had a baby together. Sounds sick asf.
- So I just realized I didn't inspect the album cover enough, to which it obviously reads "French Band" across the side of AIR. So that's chill ig. Talisman sounds like a super cool strings / bass slam together. Very interesting and "new" sounding song with sort of futuristic attributes to it. ( keep in mind with this review there is not a lot of blood in my brain still from my recent hospital encounter so I might still be going insane. )
- So far this album sounds like a perfect album to sit and study to. Remember opens up with a weird ahh voice that idk if I'm gonna be able to get around listening to without cringing, but its ok cuz the beat is banger. Reminds me of the "Fitter Happier" voice from OK Computer.
- Something about the notes these guys play just makes my brain tingle. Idk how or why but the a sharp to the c flat just brings me like immense dopamine rush.
- You Make It Easy, brings a super calming feeling. Talking about the perfect love one may feel for another. I felt this heavy, with my ex-girlfriend from grade 10. Everything in grade 10 was stupid, awkward and cringe, until she showed up and made everything easy. Nothing was stupid anymore because we both thought that it was funny and cool. That feeling of comfort you get with that one special person, is something you should try and hold onto forever.
- Ce matin-là ( That morning ) is a song that brings a whole lot of beauty to our ears. Sounds like the sound of immense joy, happiness, perfection. At around 2:40 when that funky guitar sound starts to play, that really tingles my ears. In just the best way possible.
- New Star in the Sky, is a title that can be symbolized as finding a new love interest, or discovering a new possibility or achievement. The song features some vocals, and amazing chords per usual, what stood out to me was when he said;
"The world, the world,
the world, the world
Just for you, for nobody else."
This quote makes me almost think that he is abandoning his old woman, for this new star in the sky. This song symbolizes a good feeling, of being free from past chains and rules. Moving on to something completely new.
- Le voyage de Pénélope ( Penelope's Journey ), first impression of this track; who the heck is Penelope. We have heard absolutely 0 names in this album so far so bringing this up is super random. This track sounds as if something is disturbing to start up with, as if there is a problem that needs to be solved. STOP THAT DRUM INTO IS INSANE. The slow fade in is absolutely amazing. Something I can absolutely jam/funk out to. The synthesizer makes me just want to- WAIT that weird glitchy drum. I've never heard anything like this before... The glitchy bass drum thing sounds really distorted, and amazing. The strings just add to this effect. THIS SONG. BRINGS THE ALBUM UP TO A 5. I'm in love dude, that was an amazing experience and will be looping this album again.
- well these dudes are everything. Heavy, funk, pop, electric, rock. Idek how to feel but its cool
- music vid for every song is mad cool
- idk how to feel about the saitanic ts of run christian run but lol whatever uh like ok
