Raw and melodic start, exactly what I search for in a band. The screaming of the second song is a little tough to get through. Not really my style. The third truly settles my initial thoughts whereas it wouldn't be my style with highly melodic singing and an incredible style. I like the guitar in the fifth song, "Is she weird". Along with the lyrics it's a great song. "Ana" is a nice change of pace.
All in all a great album, Is she weird, down to the well, and Cecilia Ann were insta adds to my playlist.
All in all a great album with hits I barely remember from when I was young to fresh ones that just blew me away
Favourite songs: Rio, The Chauffeur, Hungry like a wolf, Save a prayer, My own way
Very strong vocal style. An unknown artist for me, but an amazing addition to my collection
Good tunes. Rocking steadily
I love these kind of blues, makes me focus makes me do things. Very energetic and feelgood
Perfectly smooth, excellent lounge music
Danceable as fuck, never sat still during the entire listen. Feet off the ground and ears a lovin' this is amazing.
Loved the sample from Mobb deep's song (don't know the original sample)
Definitely a staple sound back then, I love this punk rock mixed with some funky tunes
Love the little nudge to the specials at the start. Definitely a very good album with a nice touch with all the horns. Love the ska vibes it gives off
Love the band, knew them from been caught stealing.
Beach boys vibes, pretty chill tunes
She's amazing, such a great voice and an amazing artist.
Really mellow tunes, a mix of club house and detroit techno?
A wonderful artistic expression. It takes you away from any thought or emotion and shows you whatever you need to feel within that small musically accompanied moment. It's absolutely incredible
Dark, moving, vocal. I love their easy but powerfull style, it's really well put together
Actually pretty good, I didn't know I could enjoy the overhyped ABBA
Experimental, energetic, powerful.
Found a live version which was really enjoyable. Bob dylan is truly a grand master. Soul and passion in every song, thoughts and politics behind every word
New wave and punk rock, pretty damned good haha
I can feel the blues influences, however it also differentiates itself. An inspiring person and an inspiring album
I remember this album from my youth, my parents loved this albam
Great album, listened the B-side first, as per Neil youngs dying wish
A little kakephonic at times, or too basic. Heard the best songs too many times
Soft and dreamy. Talkative and calm
A classic from an inspirational man
Amazing album art, amazing music. I don't know if I'd call it their prime, but definitely genre defining and ceiling breaking for them
New wave and funky grooves. Melodic madness with a little punk in there
That first song has some amazing vocals. His voice sounds a lot like a different singer I know who's name escaped my mind. Love the harmony of the music and the voice. It's quite soothing.
A really fun kind of music I've never really listened to.
It knows how to balance hard hitting lyrics and songs with calm tunes and vocals, switching it's tempo right as you're going at the right pace. A really well put together thought out album. I fucking love these kind of albums, everything comes together beautifully and comes to it's full fruition within the context of the album.
Loved the final song, emotional and raw voice lines accompanied by clear and playful guitar sounds
Shit man, this was an experience. From the getgo it takes you someplace else entirely.
Soft voice, with soft lines and accompanying tunes
Amazing, hard rocking songs and powerful vocals
Smooth garage rock like this is a treasure
Always had respect for George Michael for his musical talent and amazing voice. Loved the album for it's feel and power
Amazing, I never really listened to supergrass but I'm definitely slowly becoming a fan
Frank, an absolute classic. My housemates and I listen to this stuff during dinner and it's amazing. The soft intent of these songs make our dining just a little special even when it's just the 5 of us.
Love the sex pistols and the clash and even though this is so different from them I love it nonetheless. It's rough like the former bands, but it also adds a whole different dimension to their sound through the strong melodic instrumental feel.
Time after time is one of those classics I completely forgot for so long and now rediscovered with fiery passion. Cindy is an amazing artist and I'm glad I found her name again.
Good shit, truly. I didn't know what to expect but the first few songs really hit. They have a good punk vibe but really non-punk lyrics and melodies.
Totally not what I expected from the cover. Soft and sensual, yet still packing a punch with some songs.
Eerie, melodic, transcendent. I love this album in so many ways.
Amazing, meme culture references and actually pretty good tunes
Surely and factually genre defining. I didn't think metal could hold so much blues influence, but damn they make it work. This album was probably one of my most worth listens and also one of the more intriguing ones. This album resembles the birth of metal and reading about that while blasting these tunes has surely opened the tab on a good and lasting memory
Shit that's good. The faster version of I got you is truly a masterpiece. James' browns voice is also one of the greats
Fucking amazing, this artist knows full well what she wants and does it wonderfully
Fucking amazing indie rock. A good portion of distorts and effects while maintaining the melodic strum of the guitar in the calm of the storm. Good vocal parts where it just feels right. Psychedelic rock like the old days.
Amazing. I don't know what to call it, except marvelous and artistic. A defined yet diverse style which is very spoken for.
Good shit. Calm, beautiful, peaceful
Das good shit. Funky, part disco, poppy, just a classic and more
Yes. Bob marley is an Icon, a Hero, a defining artist
Funky, psychedelic. Hammond organ, perfect
Amazing. A fucking masterpiece of worldclass. The motifs they use in their songs can be described as intriguing, intense and insidious. They perfectly combine dark tones with dark lyrics in their more oppressive songs. They know when to rattle you with some upbeat melodies with harsh vocals and accompanying instruments. I have had a deep respect for Radiohead for experimenting, but damn I don't think I've ever heard this album before.
Dark and moody. Right on the nose tho.
Pretty OK, haha. No seriously an amazing album. With kinda trippy vibes and some good melodies I really liked it.
That final song hit different. The album in itself is so diverse, though not specifically musically, but thematically.
Great overarching feel of the album. A very interesting and unique singing voice and great songwriting. Timid and powerful, emotional and expressive.
Some phenomenal guitar work and some creative lyricism it balances it's ruggedness and tenderness really well.
Lyrical genius and mighty fine accompanying tunes. He criticized the government in the most musical way possible. In this album the themes feel to be connected more to the common american person, but I feel there were some specific people in mind.
Many oldskool influences and truly a groundbreaking phenomenon that both hit hard on the popular music of the time and for a few more years to come. Though my knowledge on the R&B and rap scene are small.
Wonderful to see the influences they bring to the table, from country to blues to scottisch/gaelic folk. They put out a masterpiece with themes in wide range so there's something for everyone to love. They accompany their unique brand of music mix with clever and raspy vocals that fit their respective themes well.
Absolutely brutal lyrics combined with a defined punk sound that really aggravates me in the right way. I could imagine myself moshing like a madman to this. I absolutely love the genre and feel like they might not have adhered to the true nature of punk, but damn they made it worth it.
I feel Johnny Cash truly didn't have a care in the world, but the way he speaks to the hearts, thoughts and feelings of anyone he meets with an empathy and connection you'll rarely have. He manages to get that whole prison all riled up and laughing with his clever antics and adept lyrics.
Masters of sampling, knowing how to hook you in, get you boppin' and then absolutely keeping it going all across.
Great and cool, chill tunes to really vibe to. I think I heard these songs in the wrong season, because they give me summer vibes in the middle of an autumn storm. Yet they make me feel the warmer side of life. Their weird mystic lyrics, combined with their upbeat tune and interesting, layered musical tone makes this a really worthwhile listen.
His passion for romance and feeling love is very prevalent in his music and I appreciate the subtle and not so subtle ways he manages to embrace that. His soft voice attenuated with even softer accompanying music gives a certain appeal.
Softspoken and wondrous, harsh and outspoken when necessary. Although it lacks a musical intricacy it pulls me in with amazing lyrics and strings me along with its simplicity and thoughts.
Amazing mix of soul/gospel/funk and some rock with a very experimental feel overall. This album made me consider the time and political/social landscape it was made for. Not just because of its strong themes regarding racism and coming together, but also of positivity and keeping your head up. I think it's an absolute banger and knows how to speak to your own morale, ethics and feelings. It is also an inspiration to see this band reach such heights with a such a diverse group of people, just showing how much can be done by coming together.
Beyond a doubt did my parents lack in their musical upbringing of me by not letting me explore the greatness of Led Zeppelin to the fullest. They had many albums of the greats (of their time) and many of the albums featured on this list. However, this album, though they are Zeppelin fans, was not in their collection. The range that Zeppelin proves they have here is amazing and absolutely stunning. I am, obviously, biased in the greatest sense of the word.
Damn, I expected soft and tender just from seeing the album cover, instead I got rich, thoughtful and expressive. I resonated with this album on an emotional level. Stills' musical choices on the album hit home quite right. He also knows how to keep the tempo going throughout the album. His amazing feel for composing and lyricism really shines in this solo debut album. It was also amazing to read about his inspiration wrought from Jimi Hendrix and his regret of not making a full album with the man.
Not really a lot to say except that they are a group of geniuses in terms of artistic and thought out expressive art. I know them mostly from their live performance Stop Making Sense, though I enjoyed this look into their early years a lot. This album is quite rough around the edges, but wonderfully so.
Incredible ol' American rock. I love this sound and vibe. They have some incredible banger tunes on here. With that I mostly mean head banger and boppin sound, because I must admit only one song was truly remarkable, which is kinda sad. Still enjoyed and I will definitely look up what other songs they have to offer.
Powerful, angry, political, emotional, an all time favorite band of mine which already showed their prowess in their early years and only built on off of this reputation.
Muscial masterpiece and an amazing journey. I once heard a friend of mine describe this album as ranging from a deep and dark terror of a nightmare, a musical performance, to an afternoon stroll through a quaint Italian town.
His vocals are a great interwoven layer on top of his silky guitar-work and create this web of intricate story-telling music. A type of music I do not particularly find myself listening to, but I will definitely listen to more from Elliot Smith.
A great fusion of R&B and soul. It's such a good stand-alone album even though it's a soundtrack to a movie. It contains very socially critical lyrics and thought provoking themes.
The rythmic guitar and the raspy vocals make this a unique experience and gives a feeling of melancholy only post-punk/new wave can give you. The lyrics are shrouded in mysticism and need not hold much meaning. A good listen if you feel dreadful, but it might break your mind trying to understand the lyrics.
As a complete switch from yesterday I get an album that speaks to personal experience and talks vigorously and expressively. An amazing punk-inspired pop/rock combo deal to absolutely blast you away. I absolutely love Green day and have listened to them for quite a while. This album is a welcome and great change in their polishing of musical style from the two albums done with an independent label. Of course that makes sense since they were limiting their time in the recording studio to the bare minimum. However, I think they did a great job of maintaining the punk sound and vibe. Most punks of the time would call them sell-outs but I hope they got over it, because they don't know what they're missing
A comfortable composition of expressive music that is outlined with subtle vocals and great lyrics
Very upbeat and jazzy, it has some nice arrangements. I can't understand a word they're saying, but I enjoyed the way the vocals fit with the music, though I imagine the meaning might hit way different. Good listen, though nothing groundbreaking imo.
I love the singer's very soulful voice, full of fieriness, sometimes reverence, sometimes endearing and compassionate. A good mix of some easy riffs with soft vocals and some hard hitting cacaphonies of emotion. A truly remarkable balance across the album as well. I always felt they were kind of one-hit wonders with sex on fire, but they really earned a spot in my heart with this album.
It has a certain appeal as like a background beach rock album, but it just doesn't feel like it has any great individual songs, though the overall theme of the album felt very synergistic.
A mess of melancholy and experimental chords and riffs. It has very nice undertone and feeling, but just lacks real oomph, the lyrics feel a bit too much like background noise. In part however the instrumentals definitely feel like they could vibe with me if I felt a little bit down, but this album caught me on the wrong day I guess.
I love their use of vocals and layered background vocals. Their musical flow throughout songs and their innovative and unique sound for the era. I quite enjoy the old feel these songs have, the way they were and not remastered. Sadly I cannot enjoy it in the fullest sense, blasting these tunes from an old car radio.
Idk what to say other than a whimsical throwback to the 1920s and I can really taste the ambience it can give.
Experimental, groovy, ethereal, industrial. It comes close to grinding my gears and me pulling my hair out, but it does so in quite the entertaining way. Though I will not find myself putting this on for fun, I do think I'd enjoy this very strangely, as long as it is infrequent enough.
I was pleasantly surprised by the musical themes of this album and it was a nice discovery. It has a nice distinctive sound, but also tries to align with a more modern (at the time) rock and roll sound.
Avant garde psychedelic rock. This came at an inopportune moment, since it was the most grey and depressing time in terms of weather. I think I would have enjoyed it with a little sunshine and rainbows. Musically it combines new wave and older rock, which I usually would enjoy
David Bowie was an entertainment genius and has shown that throughout his carreer and life. He always kept innovating his own, personal sound and truly topped himself time and time again. Twisting and tweaking his own sound to truly captivate a large part of the world during the 20th century and beyond
A refreshing take on the easy-listening genre. Truly an easy listen for me. Its beautiful arrangements, pacing of the album and overall melancholy speak to me the most. It brings honor to the name Divine Comedy.
Easiest review of my life. This album has been the solidification of my love for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I fell in love with their loose musical style during their Stadium Arcadium age. I have since then come to enjoy every album in their own right and love this one for its passion and energy. It knows how to reel you in, smack you in the face, take you for a spin and hype you up. Two of my personal favorites are Suck My Kiss and If You Have to Ask. I Could Have Lied has a special place in my heart because of the drastic switch in tone it has on the album.
My review cannot be about this album, since it is one of my main reasons for loving metal in general. Metallica opened their music up to the public and asked artists from around the world to remake and revamp the songs from this album. This type of across the world collaboration and inspiration is mind bogling to me and the true gift of music and creativity in general. Not only is the blacklist, the title of the compilation of the remakes, but the metallica original album one of my top tier albums of all time
A marvelous Rock 'n Roll classic. Raspy vocals, playful guitars, thought out lyrics with some fun themes. All in all a good wake-me-upper for the early morning today
Very chill album, with some incredible instrumentals and nice effects. Good beats and interesting vocals.
Melancholic, disillusioned, quiet and loud. It speaks to the part of me that yearns for love and mourns from heartbreak. It has a much more well-rounded sound, overall feel and tonality which I really enjoyed.
Interesting listen, good sequence of songs. Lyricism is central, though hard to understand at times.
Funky, funny, 80s, a worthwhile distraction, though I wouldn't call it worldclass
A very interesting and unique blend, truly making the sitar shine and carry melodious and uplifting riffs.
It's crazy to read his record label was considering dropping Billy Joel after his enormous success and subsequent let-downs. This album might have been the result of the enormous pressure he must have been under. Reshaping his intent to the rough diamond this album is. Billy Joel is a master of double edged, bittersweet lyrics, capturing the freedom and consequences of your own choices.
