Astral Weeks
Van Morrisonthese don't seem like songs, more like drafts of songs. I can't see how this in an important album. Every song felt like a draft or through away.

Instant groan. I never got into coldplay, they always seemed like a lame Radiohead rip off. I've gotten into countless arguments about this band, but I don't think I've ever heard an entire album. Every song is pretty solid. I need to get over my knee jerk reaction to some bands.
I wanted to hate this album so much when it came out. Rich little prep-school boys trying to make vintage music sounds like such a turnoff. Nope. One listen and I was in love. Perfect album.
WOW. I love velvet and have some of his solo stuff ( I even like metal machine music). Never heard this. Fucking masterpiece. Tragic and bleak. Full of emotion, tells a clear story and has amazing instrumentation/ production.
Never heard anything off this before. Not really my cup of tea, reminds me of music a yuppie couple would have sex to. Stand out track I don't want to know about evil
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I downloaded it in college after becoming obsessed with ambient music. I didn't understand it at first since it is clearly NOT ambient, but it grew on me over the years.
I grew up on the queen is dead. I didn't get a copy of this until I was an adult. I remember not liking it much on my first listen, but it quickly grew on me. Death of a Disco dancer is such a perfect song for our times. Girlfriend in a coma is hilarious. If you've ever been in a toxic relationship, this song will hit way too close to home.
Good drinking music. Pretty sure Steve Pattison first played this for me back in high school. Brown Eyes is the standout track for me.
Not as strong as I remember. The flavor flav songs are pretty weak. When I'm in the mood for public enemy, I out on fear of a black planet, better songs and a stronger message. Standout songs: channel zero, prophets of rage
Never heard anything off this before. Not really my cup of tea, reminds me of music a yuppie couple would have sex to. Stand out track I don't want to know about evil
Uggg. First listen is a slog. So real is the first stand out song. This sounds like every local generic bar band. First album so far that I actively wanted to turn off.
Really fun listen. I don't think I knew any songs but "the boys are back in town". Great energy on all of the tracks.
One of my all-time favorites. Expected ambient and was puzzled by this. Quickly grew on me and has remained amazing.
these don't seem like songs, more like drafts of songs. I can't see how this in an important album. Every song felt like a draft or through away.
a solid album by an underappreciated band. Not one I have in my collection and not my favorite. I wouldn't classify it as essential, bit glad I got to give it a listen.
an old HS buddy loved yes. His dad claimed that they wrote a song about him. I could never get into anything he played for me. I still don't get it. It's not "bad" and there is a lot of talent on display. Just nothing that warrants a reply for me.
this is crazy, I was listening to this on the way to work this morning! perfect album, gets me choked up
still sounds as fresh as when I first heard it. Eno can found all over the place. masterpiece
I bought this for my dad back in HS. He was a big Smiths fan and didn't have any solo stuff. I didn't really like it as much at first. When I relistened in college I fell in love. No skippable songs. Biggest standouts are the more I love you, Lazy sunbathers and speedway. The album really ends on a bang. The drums on the last song are killer.
Not a bad album. No real standout tracks. Interesting backing tracks, Has a Portishead vibe. Interesting that Kanye sampled them.

I don't like elvis. this didn't change anything.
I feel like this name comes up in lists and recommendations all the time. I can't say I've ever listened to anything by them. I like the twangy surf rock vibes of some of the songs. Nothing is really jumping out at me as must listens, but I enjoyed the listen.
a modern classic! Both sides are so strong. I wish andre would have released more solo music. Big Boi's solo albums after this are also really strong. I feel like "hey ya" is the only track people know from here and the radio sadly ruined that song for a lot of people. I have very fond memories of dancing with two of my best college girlfriends to this album.
never heard anything but ace of spades. Album is a jam for sure. Songs a little samey, but no duds. Will throw it on at a late-night party for sure.
This is more METAL than I expected. I can see why it's an important album. It's not the style of metal I like, but I can hear it in modern music. I love how over the top it is. Teachers pet is hilarious. If heard this in high school I think I would have loved it.
I've got a few of his albums. This one is wild! Rednecks is, accurate, hilarious, and sad all at the same time. This is the first gem to get uncovered by 1001 that I didn't already know about.
fun album, nothing getting me too excited though. I doubt I'd turn it off it came on the radio.
kruatrock masterpiece. A lifetime's worth of ideas in a single album.
he doesn't have any bad albums. I prefer "songs of Leonard cohen" but this is still good.
Fun album. It doesn't jump out at me.
This is a jam. I see their name a lot, but I don't think I could name a song. Standouts: soul flower. I will put this album on again. Seems like a grower.
based on the cover art and title I was hoping for some wild ass music. This album isn't bad, but nothing really jumped out at me.
I always dug Zepplin. It was one of the ONLY bands my day seems concerned about me listing to. I think he associated with stoners. Not a bad song on the album.
Fighting it out for my personal top 10. We listened to this on family trips in the car. Still puts me in a great mood.
Forgot how many great songs are on here. It would have been amazing to see them live during this time period.
Don't call me nigger, whitey is a Jam! Stand outs: sex machine, you can make it if you try
I wanted to hate this album so much when it came out. Rich little prep-school boys trying to make vintage music sounds like such a turnoff. Nope. One listen and I was in love. Perfect album.
this was one of the first pay what you want albums. I loved it when it came out. It felt a little rawer than most Radiohead stuff. A little bit of hip-hop influence too. Not my favorite or the most important, but a solid album
the one big Hendrix album we didn't have in the family growing up. (are you experienced and Axis bold as love were played often and enjoyed by all). Maybe it's because I have such a long relationship with his first two albums, but out of the three, this is my least favorite.
finally a new one! I am slightly familiar with his few radio/MTV hits, but this was not what I was looking for when it came out so I ignored him. The first track is already a jam. OK, I know Rockafeller Skank. I always assumed this was called "funk soul brother".
I remember being very excited to get a copy of this in college. I was a huge post-rock fan and this kept coming up as a foundational album. I didn't dislike it, but it seemed overhyped and not that connected to the post-rock scene I was so into. Feel the same after a relisten. Not a bad album, but feels more like a decent indie bank and a post rock milestone.
I know the name, never heard the music. Reminds me of Wire. Will listen again. I feel like I missed out.
underrated gem. I don't know anyone who even knows who Shuggie is. The file clerk at Flagstar used to hook me up with albums all the time. This was one of his best recommendations.
Found this band after reading comparisons to the strokes back in HS. I don't recall ever connecting with them. On a relisten, these songs are fine, but nothing jumps out to play again.
Never heard an entire cream album, just radio singles. I can see how this would have opened a lot of eyes. Drums are HEAVY! I get some proto-metal vibes.
Amazing drums and horns. Not thrilled with the vocals. Will listen again.
Always here about t-rex in reference to Bowie. I can see why. Feels very fresh from track one. Real classics jump right out at you, and this one does. I have yet to know a song, but they all feel familiar. It's very obvious how this influenced decades of pop and rock.
I know these songs. I feel like I could live without hearing this album. It feels like cookie-cutter generic classic rock. They might have helped make the cutter, but I still enjoy this. I guess I might put it on a bit of a cheesy joke.
I enjoy Queen but do not have this album. Haven't recognized a song yet, but they are interesting and unique. Glad this was on the list, it was a lot of fun.
Smatlzy. I def know some of these songs. Not my style at all, but I can see how it would be influential. I did enjoy listening, Help and I'll never fall in love again are the standout tracks
I'm not a huge black flag fan. I never got into the hardcore punk scene, although I really liked Rollins Band. Dirty Projectors cover album of this is one of my all-time faves. This was a fun listen. I wish I could go back in time and play it for a more open-minded, younger version of myself.
Has to be in my top ten. Made me go from a Bjork fan to an obsessive fan boy. I still get the chills listening even years later. Flawless and an essential listen
Great album. Played at cocktail night.
Great synth/ambient/space tunes. Fimilar with him but not this album.
I prefer the later day stuff after he went crazy, but this is still really good.
Bad thrift store me music
Great percussion and voice. Very upbeat.
I vaguely remember ska kids liking madness back in HS. Not sure I ever heard a song. This reminds me of The Jam, another brit band that I didn't really hear until way too late.
I think I saw them open sometime during/after college. I don't recall them making much of an impression, but I do remember them being Pitchfork darlings. This is pretty amorphous music, it could be recorded anytime within the past 30 years. Memory Boy and Cordnado and the boy who laghed are pretty catchy,
As a rule, the boss rubs me the wrong way. I have never listened to anything beyond radio/soundtrack stuff. The working man stuff just doesn't appeal to me. I get why people like this, it's well-produced and all the songs are catchy, but it's also cringy beyond belief.
This is a wild album. Young me would have appreciated this just as much as old me. I'll need to listen many more times to fully figure it out.
One of his best. It's amazing that an artist can be this strong at the end of his career. Album gives me chills.
never heard of these dudes before. They sound kind of like pansy division. Fun light hearted punk. Doesn't feel like "before you die" music, but an enjoyable listen.
I'm sure I've heard a song or two by them. I was expecting a NIN clone. This is its own thing for sure. I love the trip-hop drums and industrial noises.
this is fucking amazing! Noisy and wild. I listened to another album right away
I've heard much of this before. I just don't think it holds up compared to Paul Simons's solo stuff.
fun and inventive songs that put a smile on my face. A band I knew in name only. Will relisten again, 69 songs is a lot to take in.
amazing album. I got a leak before it came out and really prefer the rougher version to what he ultimately went with. Still a killer album with no duds.
solid album. Not my favorite by Elvis, but worth a relisten.
solid early techo album. Didn't blow me away and was less clubby than I was expecting.
Some amazing tracks on here. Singles are all great as is the song with prince.
Cee-lo is so underrated. Wild, creative jamz. An amazing roster of producers. I think I might like his debut better, but this is still great.
I bought this album for my mom. She really liked the radio songs. I am lucky to have parents with open minds. Growing up we always shared cool new music with each other. I haven't heard this since high school and I don't remember all the songs. Very solid album with no real weak songs.
not one I've heard. Only really know her from 90's radio. Not bad, but nothing that really makes me want to relisten
mom and GF had this. I know all the songs. It is quntesesial 90's music. A little cringy. I'm surprised by how unpolished and raw her voice is on some songs.
fun album. Some of the songs are pretty cheesy. I imagine that is partly due to the synth-heavy production. Some aged really well, some not so much. "it couldn't happen here" does not hold up at all.
really catchy, pleasing, indie music. Hard to guess when it was produced. Could have come out this year for all I know.
really catchy, pleasing, indie music. Hard to guess when it was produced. Could have come out this year for all I know.
this is the first album to offend me. I was a huge Korn and loved the nu-metal scene. It jumped the shark hard and became a joke. This is the album that killed the scene. Overproduced and inauthentic.
not caring for the opening track/single is not a good sign, pretty eneric sound. Rattlesnakes and forest fire are pretty catchy. The album and sound grew on me. I could have lived with out it, but I do not regret listening
Always shows up in lists. Never really checked them out. Standouts: elevate me later, cut your hair (I've heard this for sure). Solid album. I imagine it gets better with repeat listens.
I know the intro from pop culture. This is a killer album. Amazing guitar work. I am very glad I heard this before I died. I can find influences all over modern and experimental music. Thoroughly enjoyed the listen.
WOW. I love velvet and have some of his solo stuff ( I even like metal machine music). Never heard this. Fucking masterpiece. Tragic and bleak. Full of emotion, tells a clear story and has amazing instrumentation/ production.
Such a good album. I haven't played it in a while. I used to listen to this a lot with my student when I first started teaching. I think I saw them live at some point too. Still sounds fresh.
I have the album that came out on ipecac, but that recorded many years later. Zero similarities, lol. This is weird drunk bar music, thrash industrial, modern classical??? This is amazing.
I got this album after they referenced it in High Fidelity. I imagine people's views on the album change on whether they grew up hearing it all the time or not. As someone who didn't, I enjoyed it. Not a masterpiece, but a lot of solid songs.
I was a 90's kid and have never heard of this band or album ( I am l little familiar with husker du). Does not make a good first impression. Sounds very dated. Sounds like old people trying to sound young...
this is such a jam. I can't imagine how good this would have been live. You can feel the energy.
not doing anything for me. Bluesy white guys are not my thing. The psych stuff sounds interesting but is not prevalent enough in the songs. I can see how they are historically important. standouts: Lost woman
I remember pitchfork hyping this while I was in college. I gave it a few skeptical listens and didn't hate it, but I also didn't fall in love. Anytime I hear the tracks I enjoy them. I think calling "the greatest rock album ever made" is crazy, but it does hold up well and continues to influence tons of people.
I LOVE ELECTRIC MILES! The music feels like drugs without the drugs. This period always feels fresh and exciting no matter how many times you listen.
always enjoyed 2-pac, but never went beyond radio/MTV hits. Darker than I expected. Lots of talk of suicide and depression. Good listen from start to finish.
Talking Heads + Eno always yields amazing results. Dark and weird. One of my favorites album of all time.
On paper I should love Massive Attack. I haven't heard this album, but their other albums underwhelm. Not "bad" just not worth the hype.
solid post punk.
just generic jazz on first listen.
I love "live through this". I always had to defend the album to my male friends. It's shrouded in some controversy, but it holds up. I remember being deflated when this came out. I could not have been any less into power-pop at the time. The singles just screamed "sell out". I never listened to the album. I'm shocked by it's inclusion and glowing reviews. It's not as bad as I was expecting, but there is no way a younger me would have like this. Way too polished.
Haven't heard this album. Most of the songs have a familiar, comfortable feeling. I like when a new album feels like something you have heard before.
Solid album. Overrated though. I do not think it deserves all the hype it gets.
flashback to 7th grade! I had friends in HS, they loved Metallica. This was on all the time. Not a bad track on the album. ONE was always a favorite and holds up just fine years later.
great album. Knowing that they DID NOT want to record run charlie run makes it a little hard to listen to. I ain't got nothing is the standout.
my grandma use to sing me blueberry hill. not my kind of music, but it could be fun background listening.
funky and fresh. I should have been listening to this when it came out. Already warranted a replay.
Fun brit rock. I little grittier than I expected.
Not a good first impression. I don't like his voice and the style is all over the place (and not in a good way). Production is very low key and watered down.
IDK what this is, but it's a ton of fun. I will listen to her again.
Decent, but it's no pixies. I can see why headache was the single.
Classic! Somehow my GF hated it. Led to some fun arguments.
