The Mantle
AgallochI'm pretty particular when it comes to black metal but happy to find that I really like this one. The folk elements mixed in are super fascinating. I like the mix of clean and metal vocals too.

I prefer Red and Blue but this album still rips. Baroness are really slept on in my eyes.
I've listened to some Alan Parsons Project stuff but had no idea their debut album was all Poe stories?! This is amazing. Such a perfect combination of my interests.
Psychedelic folk? Sign me up! This is super interesting. Such a relaxing but still trippy vibe. I definitely need to listen to them more!
Boring adult contemporary. I'm pretty sure my mom loves this album.
Mike Patton is such a good musician. This album really shines from his contributions. I love how much unique style they bring into metal.
Generic pop with a horrible Fatboy Slim cover.
Probably Manchester Orchestra's best album. I have a lot of nostalgia for their older stuff, but this one is just so flawlessly produced and written that it's tough to beat.

One of the best concept albums of all time. The songs are super varied, and there's just so much to unpack. All while melting your face with amazing riffs.
Most of the funk I listen to is older so it's interesting to hear a 90s version. You can definitely hear the influence of the era which is quite fascinating.
Arctic Monkeys are one of my favorite bands. I think this album is a real highlight in their creativity. It's super different for them but full of charm and a lot of whimsy. Turner's vocals are really at the top of their game here.

MF DOOM was one of the greatest rappers of all time. Rest in peace. This album is perfection.
I’ve adored this album since it came out. Honestly I think it might not quite reach the highs of Lateralus but it maintains much more consistency and has no major lows either.
Another classic. This may not be my personal favorite Mountain Goats album but I find it hard to argue with it being their most influential and important. It has zero misses.
Overrated boring band. There’s so many artists who do what they do but far better.
Very interesting inclusion but I dig it. I like the incorporation of electronic instruments into the orchestral arrangement. The vocaloid vocals in particular are super fascinating.
Solid indie punk with a powerful vocalist. It's not mindblowing or anything but I enjoy it.
Kinda mediocre alternative rock. Not a fan of the singer's voice either. It sounds like something that would be nominated for a Grammy because it makes white people feel worldly.
One of my favorite concept albums ever. Beautiful and lush with great lyrics and deep themes.
A titan of pop punk. All the Small Things is just an absolutely iconic song, and there's so many more here too.
Decent enough pop. If anything from The Weeknd deserves to be on here it's the trilogy mixtapes though, not this. THOSE are something special and had a notable cultural impact.
I'm just not big on generic 70s rock. It doesn't do anything for me at all.
Really cool post-punk. It's got just the right amount of 80s sound that it feels appropriately from the era without sounding like pastiche. I love the cover too.
I enjoy this band a lot and this album is certainly one of if not their best. I don't think it's really anything groundbreaking or anything though.
Fun punk rock influenced new wave. Just some good tunes. Nothing fancy but it does what it set out to do.
Bit too radio for me unfortunately. It's inoffensive but just doesn't grip me at all.
Primus's first 3 albums are such classics. I think I prefer the other two to this one but it's got some absolute bangers. Jerry Was a Race Car Driver is one of their best.
Always down for more 2000s indie rock. I was never super into Stars though, for no particular reason. Just didn't enter my radar much. It's a solid album.

I appreciate the inclusion of some Argentinian music here. Unfortunately it doesn't do much for me. Not sure how much of that is that it's in a language I can't understand, and how much is just that musically it's kind of unexciting.
Certainly interesting and unique. The vocals remind me a bit of Tom Waits. I appreciate it intellectually more than I actually enjoy it though I'd say.
Really flawlessly produced R&B. It sounds so clean and beautiful.
Psychedelic folk? Sign me up! This is super interesting. Such a relaxing but still trippy vibe. I definitely need to listen to them more!
I feel so conflicted on Dream Theater. At some points I really dig it, but at others it's so goofy and theatrical in the worst ways and it really takes me out. Overall not something I'd listen to super regularly.
Super catchy and entertaining indie rock/pop. I really love this kind of music so it was a hit with me. The lyrics were pretty poignant too.
Very heavy Tool worship. Which, don't get me wrong I love Tool so I do enjoy it. It just feels like the spot should've gone to a Tool album instead in that case.
Goated live album. It's just absolutely peak in every way.
Solid progressive metal. It doesn't blow me away or anything but I dig it. There's some good quiet parts that balance out the heavier sections.
I've been trying to get more into jam music lately. I still haven't 100% gotten it to click but I'm enjoying it more and more. This was a pretty entertaining listen. Very funky and upbeat yet chill. The Ghostbusters song was a fun unexpected ending.
