Discovered this a couple years ago! really high quality 3.5/5
pretty good songs, but not great engineering. bad quality mic on many tracks 3/5
Opening track is phenomenal. The rest is ok 3/5

This album had a big part in the course of rock. One of my faves. Can't beat California rock in the mid-1960s! 4.5/5
Sounds really timeless. Probably the earliest example I've found of contemporary alternative rock. Then came Joy Division, then The Smiths, then the rest is history! 1st listen 3.5/5
My parents used to blast this CD when I was a kid. I don't usually gravitate towards U2, but this album is a genuine masterpiece. Starts out perfectly with the slow atmospheric buildup of "Where the Streets Have No Name", and not a weak track after that. You can feel Daniel Lanois behind the soundboard at every turn. 5/5
The first in a string of critically acclaimed albums, Talking Book is a nearly perfect album to me. His next three records won best album at the Grammys in 1974, 1975 and 1977. (At the 1976 awards, Paul Simon took home the prize and famously said "I'd like to thank Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album this year") What a legend! 5/5

First time hearing of these guys. Grunge with a touch of prog. Interresting. 3.5/5
The original alternative rock album.
The original alternative rock album.
Classic
Loved this when it came out
Never been a big Roxy Music fan, but I often enjoy when I listen. Can't deny Bryan Eno's contributions to music from then on. Side 2 is great 3/5
Weird album.
Surprisingly pretty good 3/5
Jazz! Fun stuff 3.5/5
2.5/5
Not into Christmas music, but this is a good collection
Discount The Smith's, and I'm not a fan of The Smiths. 1st listen 1.5/5
Not bad, different 2.5/5
Not my type of music, but respect the talent involved. I had heard a few of these tracks back in the day. 1.5/5
3/5
Tried a few times to be a Steve Winwood fan. A little too soft for me I think. Genuinely great and soulful parts to this album however. 2.5/5
Really enjoyed this! Alternative rock from the 2000s seem to have been greatly influenced by these guys. 4/5
One of the best albums of all time
Lou Reed has always been a tough nut to crack for me, but this has to be his most accessible album. I really liked it. Will stay in my rotation
Don't know how often I'd return to this, but I really loved the experience! 3.5/5
🤘🤘🤘 🔥🔥🔥 5/5
Had heard of these guys in Nirvana and Pearl Jam documentaries. Seattle grunge scene. This is okay. Prob won't go back to it. 2.5/5
I mistakenly remembered this album as being more 1990s alternative rock. It is in fact southern rock /bluesy. Nice surprise actually, however as a whole it felt a little generic. The worst offenders being the 2 hits "Hard to Handle" and "She Talks to Angels". 2.5/5
David Crosby notoriously HATED Morrison and The Doors. But Croz was a pretty hateful guy. RIP to both. Please someone transport me to L.A. in 1967 4.5/5
Beautiful album. KD Lang is a national treasure 3/5
This is in my top 5 1970s Steely Dan albums. Squeaky clean production, masterful execution. 4.5/5
Eclectic mix of country, folk & ballads, wound together by her wonderful and unique voice. Very mature delivery. Beautiful rendition of "For No One" 3.5/5
The first 2 tracks are absolute bangers! Got me moving right off the start. The rest doesn't quite get there for me though, so the album ended up feeling a bit long. "We Are Family" extended version is cool though. Had only heard the short version. 3/5
Another great one from these guys. Often regarded as their magnum opus, Aja (pronounced "Asia") shows a confidence and maturity in the studio. Both in performance and production value. 4/5
I have to be in a certain mood to listen to Captain Beefheart. Fortunately I was in the right headspace and I thoroughly enjoyed re-listening to this weird gem. Even spent part of the day revisiting and discovering other albums of his. 4/5
One of my all time favourite albums. Cant imagine what it mustve been like on 1992 when this music dropped!! So explosive. Not a weak track on here 5/5
Really wanted to give this 1 star, but there were too many bright moments in an otherwise bland album. 2/5
Nothing special, but enjoyed the listen. 2.5/5
This didn't do it for me. Very bland and generic rock. 1.5/5
It amazes me that they were able to follow their breakthrough LP (Highway to Hell) with this rocker. All while mourning their lead singer and replacing him with an equally capable member. What a whirlwind year that must've been! 5/5
Wow! I really dislike punk, so had stayed away from this my whole life (I tried so many other classic punk albums and didn't like any...) But this one is so good! So raw, but catchy. The two vocalists really compliment each other well. 3.5/5
Love this album! I used to listen to this quite a bit a couple years ago. Really good musicality and unique style. The urgency of "Boxing Day" and the way it cuts off abruptly is an interesting choice. 4/5
Classic New Wave sound. Lots of fun, but the same beat got a little tiresome near the end of the album. More fun for the singles I find. "Automatic" was a stand out for its slower pace. 3/5
Guitar work on this record is incredible!! 4/5
One of the folk greats! Jansch influenced so many musicians of that era (most notably Neil Young). Undeniable talent. "Needle of Death" is absolutely bone chilling. Excellent writing and performances. 4/5
I don't have a critical ear for hip-hop, but I know I liked what I heard! Some tracks I could've skipped, but enough strong material to go back to. Will keep in my library. Favourite track "U Don't Know" 1st listen. 3.5/5
Dusty was a powerhouse in the 60s! I like her hits, just not into this softer lovey-dovey music enough to enjoy the whole album. Great performances by her and the session players however. 2.5/5
I was annoyed with this album. 0.5/5
This album shaped my musical taste during my formative years. Sent me on an indie-rock journey and opened my world to a whole new genre! Songwriting, originality and performance (especially live performances) are all top notch. Knocking off 0.5 for sub-par production/mixing. 4.5/5
Talented musicians. Enjoyed the listen. Sounded a bit Christmas-y in some moments. 2.5/5
Every song on here is a classic! One of my favourites albums. 5/5
Really creative. Top notch 90s hip hop 2/5
I hadn't listened to this in a long time! Unique and original sound, great story. 3/5
Liked the jazz-and-funk infused tracks. 2.5/5
Inoffensive, but no substance. 2/5
One of my mom's favourite albums. 3.5/5
Meh 2/5
Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Bobby Darin. The origins of Rock N Roll. Wouldn't have The Beatles or Stones without guys like these. 3/5
Wow! Great mix of improvisation and catchy hooks. I've been meaning to get into Zappa for a long time. I just might do that. 1st listen 4.5/5
I don't my electronic music, just not an entire album. Seems repetitive 1.5/5
Amazing album. Great discovery, thanks to this list. The sound is so full, rich. 4/5
Amazing debut album by a legend! 4/5
Title track is an undisputed classic. Wasn't very familiar with his other work, but pleasantly surprised. Good folk-rock, solid lyrics and beautiful voice. (His voice sounds very similar to Rodriguez - and overall style I suppose). 3.5/5
I found this to be an ok-at-best industrial metal album. Bold choices, some panning out, some falling flat. 2/5
Amazing voice. Album is full of modern classics. 3/5
One of my all time favourites from my youth & still listen to it regularly. The counterintuitive mix of metal and classical music hits exactly right, with an amazing re-invention of almost every track. Notable for the new songs "-Human" and especially "No Leaf Clover". "Michael Kamen at the helm, YEAH!" (R.I.P) 5/5
I don't mind electronic music. But an entire album is too much in one sitting 2/5
Great 60's rock! 4/5
1.5/5
Recorded just months before his suicide, Cobain and Co. pour their hearts out in this performance. Not in their usual way (loud and screaming) but in a dark, sludgy, and even playful way. Here they skip most of their hits and instead opt to rework some more obscure tracks (both their own and quite a few covers). The tame setting (in which our front man drinks copious amounts of tea) may not get you jumping or head-banging, but what it lacks in palpable energy it gains in emotional tension. Tension that grows ten-fold knowing this would end up being one of Cobain's last performances before his untimely death. 5/5
3.5/5
Expecting punk (of which I'm not a fan), I got something that sounded like Bowie. Oh, this album's music was entirely composed by Bowie. Oh, he and Iggy were super close friends and collaborators. Oh, "China Girl" came out a full 6 years before on this album. So anyways, with the feeling of having lived under a rock, I'm now diving into The Stooges. See you on the other side. 4/5
CCR released so many great albums in such a short period of time. Can put this on at any time, always in the mood for some Creedence! 4.5/5
Some tracks I liked, others not so much. 1st listen 2/5
I liked their first two albums when they came out. This one isn't as strong I find. 1.5/5
Not bad. I enjoyed the listen, but probably won't go back to it. 3/5
Can you imagine the reaction to this heavy music in the late 60s/early 70s?! The true pioneers of heavy metal. 5/5
I play Roxy Music every few months. I always enjoy it, but never feel the desire to go back to it. I think that means I find them okay-at-best. 3/5
What a trip! I wasn't familiar with this artist aside from his late 60s hit "Je t'aime", but turns out he is Charlotte Gainsbourg's father. I deeply enjoyed the vast range of musical styles. Very eclectic. Great concept album, tragic story. 4/5
Probably the strongest collection of songs of any of their albums. The pinnacle of their "classic" era. 4.5/5
Bon Scott's final, and best, album before his death. One of the first CDs I ever got! Listened to this a thousand times when I was 12. 5/5
I didn't hate the experience, but this isn't for me. 2/5
One of my faves! "Child in Time" is an underground classic. 4.5/5
First time I actually enjoy the Smiths! 3/5
One of my favourite artists, Gabriel's third album may be one of his strongest. He took his prog-rock background and added multiple influences, new wave and african rhythms most notably. Very innovative production for the time. Drums are compressed and tight, which would be the trend for the following decade. His political songs are my two favourite tracks (Games Without Frontiers & Biko) 4.5/5
Amazing & unique voice. Great songwriting. Refreshing arrangements for the times. 3.5/5
I liked this when it came out. I was into Indie Rock /Pop a lot back then. Don't know if it appeals to me anymore, but there's good stuff in there 2.5/5
Didn't like his voice. But the last couple songs were really good 1st listen 2.5/5
Damn this was pretty good! 1st listen 3.5/5
You know what, this exceeded expectations. Pop-rock, but introspective. 3/5
This feels a little watered down to me. Plus not a fan of his voice. 1st listen 2/5
Two distinct albums in one. What a great idea. Both creative works are different but complement each other in a way only these two artists could. 4/5
After an underwhelming debut, Dylan fires on all cylinders with his sophomore release. Lyrics are poetic, original, and hit as hard 60 years later as they did when they were contemporaneously written. Nobel prize for literature well deserved. 5/5
As far as electronic music goes, this ambient, low-key style is my favourite. 3/5
Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo) came up with the album title while he and Young were hanging out on the set of the Human Highway movie. Rust Never Sleeps is almost a perfect album. Knocking 0.5 stars for "Sedan Delivery", Neil's foray into punk. I often skip this track, as it's my least favourite song of his. Just happens to be on one of my favourite overall albums. Having said that, I respect that he embraces the genre, at a time when classic rock and punk were at odds, Uncle Neil just went with the flow. (His relationship with aforementioned Mothersbaugh made him appreciate New Wave as well, which eventually led him into some weird shit in the eighties like Trans, Landing on Water and Life) "Powderfinger" still gives me chills to this day. 4.5/5
Excellent first album by a true artist. 4/5
Fela is a musical hero of mine. Discovered him relatively recently, I quickly absorbed his entire discography. He essentially created the Afro-beat genre – unpretentious and danceable jazz – usually comprising of one 15-ish minute track per side, first half instrumental and second half with vocals kicking in. Most songs are heavily politicized protest songs against the then-ruling Nigerian government and military. (Soldiers later raided his compound, resulting in the death of his mother and his near assassination. Possibly a retaliation against this album's incendiary lyrics). He later died from AIDS in the 90s. 5/5
Zipper cover! 4.5/5
not for me 1.5/5
Really liked this! His voice (and echo effects applied to it) sounded like Bono at times. Great and unique style. 4/5
I remember liking a few of these songs when this came out. Ultimately this isn't something I'd return to though. 2/5
I loved this album when I was younger. Doesn't do it for me anymore. 2.5/5
Very whimsicle style and lyrics. 3/5
The first heavy metal album of all time! Excellent first outing by incredible musicians. 4.5/5
Notes of Peter Gabriel and Prince while being loyal to contemporary styles. Very original compositions. 3/5
