Great album overall although I'm not a big Beatles fan.
Killer album, mind melting flows!
Not bad, recognized one song (Piece of My Heart, a real banger), overall meh.
Meh. Definitely older and not really my style. The link is to the deluxe version of the album, which is 2hrs 40mins instead of the standard album which is 40 mins. Overall a cool vibe, but not my style at all.
Cool album I had never really listened to. Not quite my style but overall I dug it.
I dug this album. Not too familiar with Jane's Addiction overall but liked the album. The singer's voice is unique but not quite my style, so I dont think listening to this album will lead to me listening to JA more.
Cool album. Recognized two songs, Shout and another. Not my style.
I liked this album, felt good on a Friday. Good vibes. Recognized two songs. I want to check out more Steely Dan now but dont think I'll go crazy for it.
Bjork is incredibly unique. There are some songs I've really enjoyed in the past, but overall has never been my style. This album doesnt represent what I like about Bjork and I didnt recognize any songs. Her voice is also unique which is really cool, but it can go from buttery magic in one track to nails on a chalkboard on the next track. Hope to hear more Bjork down the line but I disliked this album specifically.
Really cool sound and album, will be checking out more of Dr. Octagon. One song seemed to drag on for quite a while with the same words repeated over and over and over; aside from that, really dug this!
Stevie is incredible! Never sat down and listened to a bunch of his music, and while I enjoyed this album I will admit I didnt enjoy it nearly as much as I expected to. Feel like Ive had my fill and ready to move on.
Pretty cool album, I dug the vibes! Recognized one song (if not two) but wasnt sure if they were the original songs or covers (I assume the former). Not sure Id really ever heard The Cult before so Im interested in checking them out more.
This album is an absolute banger! Recognized many songs but had never listened to the entire album. Not necessarily a big OutKast fan, but this album has now been added to my regular rotation. Looking forward to more!
Not bad at all. Seemed to be primarily electronic/synth vibes with very little vocals. Enjoyed overall but the album was over 5 hours long, so I didnt listen to the entire thing.
Im not sure Ive ever listened to Van Morrison before, so this was a cool journey. Overall enjoyed the music and will be on the lookout for more down the road!
This album was indeed fire. I think Arcade Fire is that upbeat type of sound that can brighten anyone's day. It landed on a day when I needed it, so the timing was great. Definitely interested in more Arcade Fire!
Bob Dylan is iconic. While I enjoy his music and recognize his voice, Im not very familiar with his work overall. Enjoyed this album and look forward to more!
Old school for sure. Good vibes and sound overall, but not interested in seeking out more.
I love reggae and an album named "Legalize It" put on in the late 60s is something I already love and support. LOL Im not sure if I ever heard any music by Peter Tosh before, but I like him. While I didn't enjoy this album that much (the music felt like a "pop" version of reggae which I wasn't a fan of), I would like to hear more of his music in the future.
Dont think Id ever heard of Mj Cole before now. Given the name, the album cover (a designer retail bag with smoke/steam coming out) and released in 2000, I assumed it was going to be R&B or electronic. What I didnt expect were the vocals to be nearly all (if not entirely) female. Overall some really good sounds in here, but there were also a few tracks that felt too repetitive and long. One song the female voice kept saying "put your hand on your hip" and it felt like it went on for 10 minutes lol. Overall a fine album, curious to hear more at some point.
Never heard of Mylo. Overall some really great beats and vibes on this album, but nothing that really reached out and grabbed ahold of me. Cool album but ready to move on.
This album was a total banger! Recognized a few songs anyone would recognize and enjoyed the rest of the album as well! Looking forward to more!
What an absolute legend and trailblazer! Really enjoyed this album, QL is indeed a Queen!
I really dont know the music of The Doors at all, but well aware of the band and name as Im sure most are. This album was released in the 60s I believe and frankly I wasnt a fan. To old-timey for my taste.
I really enjoyed this album! Amazing sounds and vibes with this one! I recognized the name Curtis Mayfield but was otherwise clueless. Adding this album to my regular rotation and looking forward to more!
I enjoy the Gorillaz and this album is a quintessential example of early 2000s rock evolution. Killer album!
Wow, this one was different. I really had no idea what to expect as I didnt recognize the band name or album cover and given it came out in the 70s. I actually really enjoyed this music; it was unique (like Queen), poppy, playful, and overall enjoyable. (Caveat is this landed on a good day I was having, so that may have contributed to my positive reception; if I had been having a bad day, I cant tell if this would have helped brighten my day or just annoyed me.)
Overall I was not a fan of this album or style of music. It's old timey and not my style. Having said that, I enjoyed the second half of the album more than the first. The first half included what seemed like a Christmas song ("Jesus was born today") and a song about your mother dying ("Your mother died and you're on your own"). Ready to move on.
DJ Shadow is absolute fire! I really love Nobody Speak (collab with RTJ who are also fire) so my eyes widened when I saw this album come up. Really enjoyed the album and look forward to more.
Tbh, I was not expecting to like this album or music. But I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it! It felt sort of country, but without the country; maybe soft/light rock? Anyway, it felt good and was positive; reminded me a bit of O.A.R. Glad I came across this and look forward to more!
I pretty much hated this whole thing. Not my style, way too old, blah.
I really enjoyed this album despite not expecting to! I figured the Temptations would be old-timey enough that I'd move right along, but there were some seriously funky beats in this album!
I didnt enjoy this album, although I didnt hate it either. It felt like a crazy lady going off on endless tangents where Im unable to foresee where the music is going. Sometimes this is great, in this case it just felt unnecessarily random and incoherent. Having said that, there were still some songs and certainly some beats that I enjoyed. It was upbeat.
I actually enjoyed this album and music a fair bit! It was perfect for a leisurely walk in the drizzling rain!
Meh. Overall didnt really enjoy this album or music. It wasnt horrible, but I have no interest in Scott Walker going forward.
I love Radiohead and I love this album!
Nina Simone is incredible; massively talented and such a powerful voice. Having said that, I found this particular album to be mid.
Meh. Pretty voice but not my style of music at all. It's borderline country. It was soft/mellow for a nice afternoon walk, but I have no interest in hearing more.
Really enjoyed this album! Recognized a few songs and overall this is just great old school rock.
This was interesting! Hadnt heard of them or seen this album cover. Released in 2009 definitely had me curious. Not really my style of music but overall I enjoyed it!
This was interesting! Hadnt heard of them or seen this album cover. Released in 2009 definitely had me curious. Not really my style of music but overall I enjoyed it!
Despite not being my style of music, it was easy going and Carole has a great voice. Recognized a couple songs, always helps lol.
Overall not really a fan. Having said that, I can appreciate what this music did for music evolution overall and going more electric. Also, I recognize the song Mr. Blue Sky which I enjoyed! (I recognize it from Girl Talk who remix songs.)
Brand new to me and overall I enjoyed it! Seems like a british band and some songs were better than others. Sounds like a couple modern bands like White Stripes.
Wasn't familiar with Frankie Goes to Hollywood at all but recognized 2 or 3 songs. Overall enjoyed it!
I dug this music and would like to hear more from War!
I enjoy Kings of Leon, but this looks to be one of their earlier albums and it was a mixed bag for me.
Ice Cube is a legend and this was a solid album. Not a big fan of this particular set of songs, but I enjoyed it.
A few cool vibes in here, but overall not my style at all. Too random and just doesnt feel good on my ears lol
Bob is a legend and I enjoy his music, but I can only take so much lol This album was good but nothing really caught my ear to go back to later.
Oof. Mellow voices and soft music, but this is that old timey shit I dont like at all lol
Didnt know what to expect, but given this released in the 2000s I assumed it would be decent. It was not. This is old timey music with no material modern flares/additions and I did not enjoy this album.
Depeche Mode is one of those bands that is iconic and has a cult following, but their music has never really been my style. I appreciated listening to this album but it simply confirmed I'm not interested lol
Meh. Sorta old timey but had some good vibes, but no interest in revisiting Tim Buckley going forward.
Heard of Dire Straits, didnt know what to expect, and given this felt like the 10th album in a row released in the 1970s (it wasnt, but felt like it), I started this album up with a sour predisposition. As the album flowed forward, I really enjoyed the sounds and vocals! Then I heard Sultans of Swing, which I recognized immediately, and was blown away that I fully recognized a song I had no idea Dire Straits had done. I replayed Sultans of Swing numerous times that day. Overall enjoyed and look forward to more Dire Straits in the future!
I had heard the name lol Some pretty epic jazz on this album. Im typically more interested in smooth/easy jazz, but I enjoyed Contrane's talent-filled tunes. Look forward to more!
It was ok, sort of a modern old timey feel. Didnt hold my interest but was fine.
The Eagles are legends and Hotel California is one of my all time favorite songs! Having said that, this isnt one of my favored albums from this band; the first track is incredible but the rest are sorta meh.
Never heard of OMD, but this album was released Nov 8 1981, one day after I was born, so I was optimistic and hopeful I would love this. Overall very underwhelming, didnt really enjoy at all. Definitely some quintessential 80s beats, but other than that, ready to move on.
I think this is my second Steely Dan album so far in this journey, and this album was not what I expected nor what I remembered the first album to be like. This one had smooth, soft, sexy vibes. Overall it was fine.
Honestly, I was expecting some old timey tunes I wouldnt enjoy. Instead, the beats felt fresh, upbeat, and lively! I enjoyed the Allman Brothers and will check them out further going forward!
This is exactly why I was interested and excited to do this 1001 Album challenge. The Who is a name everyone knows, but I did not know their music at all. Overall I enjoyed! Not really my style but I'll be looking to check out more going forward!
I think this is the second Bob Dylan album so far. I enjoy Bob Dylan overall but can only do so much at a time lol (same comment as last time I think)
Not my style of music, not a fan of the vocals or tunes. Reminds me of the band that does the Love Shack song, except that I like them a bit more lol
This is more my style. Didnt necessarily love it but enjoyed the fast paced guitar. Reminds me of the band Rancid a bit.
Put the lime in the coconut! Enjoyed this album more than I expected to, would like to check out more.
Stevie Wonder is another absolute legend! I enjoy his music although I rarely seek it out specifically. I enjoyed this album, including the electric guitar riffs! Great tunes!
Another legendary name! This one is interesting, I was expecting to like this album based on what I thought I had remembered about Miles Davis. However, I found this to be mostly the "all over the fucking place" kinda jazz. Some pockets of sweet vibes along the way, but all were fleeting. Maybe a hot take but I did not enjoy.
Pleasantly surprised to be honest! Smooth vibes, recognized a few songs, enjoyed it even though this isnt the style of music I would normally seek out.
Not sure I had really ever heard of Billy Bragg. Overall enjoyed the album and music, would listen to again!
Talk about buttery smooth vibes! I dont typically seek out this type of music or Norah specifically, but I really enjoyed this album! Love her voice and her music!
This one is interesting. Didnt listen to the whole thing, but seems entirely instrumental, no vocals, almost the early innings of electronic music. Certain parts made me think of Tool and some of their elongated, instrument-only sections. I appreciate what this is, especially given the release year, but overall not interested in hearing more.
Oh man. This is what most excited me about going on this journey: stumbling across something/someone I am entirely unfamiliar with that I absolutely love! A few songs on this album are new favorites and I will be checking out more. More smooth butter on the heels of Norah Jones at #72.
Wasn't very familiar with The Cure (although the voice is usually identifiable), but really enjoyed this album and their music, right up my alley (aside from the quintessential 80s tracks LOL). Interested in more.
Typical 80s, not interested.
Already love Queens of the Stone Age. Great album.
After an elongated pause, I am back to the 1001 Albums Journey. This album was typical 70s music which I am simply not interested in. Pass.
Dancing Queen is a classic, but I've never liked ABBA and this album is no different. Just not my style at all.
Indian vibes (you know, that one instrument that I always forget the name of). Nice sounds but not my style of music, but would be open to hearing more.
I dig girl rock and 90s music, but I did not enjoy this album nor Liz Phair overall. Her voice is mediocre and the music is meh. I dug some of the lyrics though. (I do want to give props to Liz for the album cover, a little nip is always hot.)
I love Beck and I love this album. Beck is unique and cannot be replicated. Funky beats, great vibes, killer sounds, what more can you want?
This was an ok album. Not really a fan but didnt dislike anything. One song I recognized.
Never heard of Killing Joke. Enjoyed the album, old school rock. Nothing really kept my attention, but enjoyed it more than the 1960s/1970s stuff thats been coming through a lot lately.
Cool album, late 90s new age stuff. The most popular song (according to Amazon Music) is track #2 which I had to move on from after 8 minutes (the song is 10 mins) of the same riff over and over and over. Some people dig it, I didnt. Album was fine overall, might be interested in checking out more.
Released in 2014, this wasn't quite what I expected. This had a Bob Dylan feel (minus the voice). Overall it was meh.
I enjoyed this overall, sort of classic rock, had a bit of an AC/DC sound to them. Nothing really caught my ear so I doubt Ill be seeking out more.
Blah. Meh. Old timey country music. Horrible.
Hadnt really ever listened to Rush before, but obv there are tons of Rush fans out there. I enjoyed the music overall and this album. Not overly interested in hearing more, but I enjoyed Rush more than I was expecting to.
Overall not really a fan. Late 90s, had some cool psy beats in certain songs, and the popular songs (according to Amazon Music) were cool. Not interested in more.
I love Sting, but Im not a fan of The Police. Yes, Every Breath You Take is awesome.
Not a fan. Like at all. Old timey beepbop music, if thats a thing.
Some cool vibes in here and I like some of the heavy bass beats. A couple popular songs on here that I recognize that are good. Overall not really my jam and Im not interested in hearing more.
I like Elvis Costello but am not a big fan of his style of music lol
No one compares to Frank. When you need some buttery smooth vibes for a casual party or chill Sunday afternoon, Franks slaps consistently. Having said that, while my mother is a big Frank fan, I never really have been. I enjoy his music but dont seek it out. Was thrilled that this popped up during this journey and enjoyed the album.
Nirvana is iconic, no doubt. Numerous classics that are worthy of a listen and appreciation. Having said that, Nirvana is not a band I've ever gotten into nor sought out; most songs sound the same to me and there are countless other bands/singers/sounds that I prefer.
I like Jurassic 5 but like many other artists, they aren't a group I know well or have really sought out at any point. Unique vibes, some cool bassy beats. Listening to this album makes me want to check out more.
Early 80s dumpster fire. Hated it. Hated everything about it lol. Anyone who thinks this is good music should consider refraining from opining on anything. <3
Enjoyed Bad Company more than expected! Pretty sweet rock tunes. Will check out more of them!
Better than expected but that's not saying much. Pretty voice but the 1960s style isn't my jam.
Meh. Typical 1960s soft fuzzy kid music. Next.
Pleasantly surprised! Some really sweet vibes on this album. Being British and the album being from the 70s, I assumed I was going to hate this. Included were funky beats and some electronics. Very cool!
Like many iconic names, I am not familiar with The Who. Recognized a few songs and overall dug their sound, but not enough to go back for more. This was a double album and 4hrs long.
Interesting. I think this is ska, or am I way off? I thought Rancid with a splash of early Green Day. This album is 14 songs and 15 mins. The band name is Circle Jerks. The album name is Group Sex. It came out in 1980. 2 stars.
I'm a fan of R.E.M. and there's a number of songs on this album I am familiar with.
Very interesting/cool. Wasn't familiar with De La Soul at all but enjoyed what I heard and certain parts sounded familiar. Want to check out more.
Pink Floyd is legend. The second album in my 1001 journey was Pink Floyd, and here we are again as I near 100. This is an iconic album with iconic songs. I enjoyed the album overall and will be coming back for more.
All electronic/synth. Interesting and enjoyed some parts. Interestingly, when I first turned this on and went for a walk, like usual throughout this 1001 journey, teh style just wasnt hitting well at all, so I pivoted to something else and came back to this and enjoyed it more than expected. Recognized a song, or at least a part of it.
Some cool sounds and vibes on this album. Enjoyed more than I expected to.
I appreciate who Elvis was, what he represented, and what he did for music broadly. That being said, Elvis has never been interesting to me. There are a few well known songs that I think are fine, but Ive just never had any interest in actively listening to Elvis.
