Songs From A Room
Leonard CohenLenny tells a story, it must be said. Not particularly uplifting or tuneful. Overuse of the jews harp
Lenny tells a story, it must be said. Not particularly uplifting or tuneful. Overuse of the jews harp
Liked it a bittty bit
The most disco disco. brilliant. Did Nile Rodgers produce it?
The original Girl From Ipanema. Several ways. Jazzy! Lovely vocals. Coool
Cool saxy sexy jazz.
Rocky Catchy Pleasant Some building tracks Moody Instrumental licks Remind me of the Manic Street Preachers / U2 /
I thought I hated Frank Zappa but this album has completely turned me! Fast Funky Jazzy Brassy Rocky groove grandiose layered complex dynamic energetic extravagant and loud but NOT relaxing?
Not my cup of tea. Too heavy rock a la AC/DC. Jagger like vocals. No . No . Nothing new or groundbreaking here.
No Silly
Nice mellow mellifluous soft house. Easy listening . mmm
THere is nothing groundbreaking or super amazing about this album. Sorry Cheryl
I know this one. This is a mixed bag. Some scary ghost music in there. But also the famous, well known track which is good. Generally though this does not get going at all
I've not really been a great fan of Nirvana, maybe cynically, I think they can ascribe much of their fame and subsequent record sales on the untimely death of Kurt. This album breaks no new ground, is replete with cover versions and imo only made it to the top 1000 because it was the first to be relesed after the above mentioned unfortunate event.
It was ok American taste I would say.
I love the Who but.... this live album was not for me.
Ugh . My ears are bleeding
Shades of Cheryl Crow, Carole King. Not my Tasse de The. But quite listenable. Seems to build and get better towards the close
Nat king Cole and James Brown fusion with some Louis Armstrong thrown in.. Nice Jazzy soul.
I often play this album It is a classic but I'm leaving only 4 stars because not every track is a banger and it is rather short.
More generic rock No thanks
Ugh Like barbed wire in my ears. R n B . I just dont get it. This album is so self indulgent.
hmmm more rock psychadelic rock its ok
I expected to hate this but not at all. Mellifluous gentle African. funky.
Ugh Barbed wire in my ears Entitled sounding thrash shiiite.
vocalist sounded like the guy from Cake. Nothing spectacular
Love a bit of Goldfrapp.... They get better in the following albums.
Good
Liked it a bittty bit
I quite liked this. rocky and dynamic and original
I'm not listening as i know i dont like the WS Not in the spirit of this think I know but I dont have the time for R O C K
Hippy chilled country thingy
UGH barbed wire in my ears.
Quite countrified. His voice as ever is like a rasping file on a steel bar OK Wouldnt listen often for sure
Thoughtful and tuneful stuff from The Who. Love the Film too.
Is this some sort of fucking joke?
If you are into robotic electronica dirged out repetitively in German, then this is the album for you!
Painful If you want a reason why Iggy Pop has always been in the third tier, then here you go
I'm not paranoid but neither am i listening to Paranoid. I don't do heavy metal.
As a 90's raver, I like this album and dont get the shade .
I dont really like Punk but this was ok i suppose
'Richard Ashcroft. He's so talented' Everyone in 1995
This is my first 4 * album. Love it .Groundbreaking, easy listening. Funk soul brother.
Sanitized rock the BBC could play in the 60's. No rude words, easy listening. One track reminded me of Procol Harum. The singer is off key . Iron Butterfly sound like it should be heavy rock but is not. Much use of synthesizer like The Doors at the same time. I will not be revisiting
Love this album, reminds me of a misspent youth. Solid 4
Haunting, beautiful floating mellifluous. In a word nice.
Me no likee metal. There are more tuneful and mellifluous albums to spend my time listening to.
Didnt have time to delve into deeply. Like but not as good as Santana?
Honestly, If this artist was playing incognito at the local bar, she wouldnt be able to still the chatter in the crowd. DULL
R n B not my thang
EEz are good, eez are good ethan ebeneezer Goode
I once saw Morrisey at Glastonbury. Behind him was his name in 12 foot high poloystyrene letters, taking up the whole stage. I listened to this on an app which interspersed tracks with ads. I found myself liking the vibrancy and depth of the ads sounds. He has stories to tell but they are not particularly interesting . An aquired taste i guess.
Surprised that for me this is not passing the test of time . A smattering of classics interspersed with averageness.
Blueberry hill , very good and iconic. The rest of the album i found very samey.
I dont Like Rap, I dont do R n B NAH
Love this album Reminds me of mellow misty autumn days.
African influenced Jazz Trumpety 1972 I'm sure this guy was very influential to musicians who followed him
Ugh Shouty middle class american brats. 'Oooh but the samples are the best' Listen to the originals that they sampled then!"
One of my very favourites. There is one or two discordant tracks thus the 4
Hendrix was very influential to the makers of this album. If you like Hendrix this is for you Like being in Harlem in 1972. Reminded me of a 1960/70s stage show like 'Hair' Innervisions by Stevie Wonder is more funky. This must be 'delic' then.
People who like this should try listening to music. They may be surprised that without talking with mysoginistic attitude, the sounds are more mellifluous and mellifluous is what I am looking for..
Lenny tells a story, it must be said. Not particularly uplifting or tuneful. Overuse of the jews harp
If you want the best Simon and Garfunkel album, head straight to Bridge Over Troubled Water
There are some olde time classics here but the sound is so dated, 1958 . I'm sure it was groundbreaking at the time but the terrain has been built on and improved many times since. Poor lad has a lisp. No wonder he couldnt keep a girl in those unenlightened times.
A couple of absolute classics, great vocal harmonisations. This always sounded twee and is now showing its age. California Dreaming will remain in the psyche of mankind for a long time to come and for that reason I have given this album a 3
Thanks (not!) for the discordant guitar feedback screech at the start. Put me in bad odour for the whole album really. Sounds to me like what a group of schoolboys in their parents garage would produce. Nothing new or musically fresh or groundbreaking is in this album.
Too long and arduous to finish . 50 - 55 songs too long Cake ish There's some Len Cohen here too
I'm not a great Aerosmith fan. Did listen. Didnt think it was heavy rock. Meh
Quite nice
Good ole fashioned bluesy blues. Live album - Why?
Humourous, light hearted, ok . The sort of album you skip past time and again but when a friend picks it out, you quite enjoy it
Old fashioned. Music has moved on but I realise that it is an evolutionary process and this guy has contributed.
Mor. Middle of the road. Middle of the middle of the road. In the middle of that.
Tuneful, hypnotic, ponderous, thin. Psychadelic rock. Punk in places. I'd listen again thus 4 stars
Theres no real bangers here but the quality of this band is undeniable . I spent a pleasant time listening to this but in the final analysis, I'm not going to rush back. Its a 3
Wow this guy was influential to many artists who followed him. Theres too much Mojo here. you will see what i mean......
The first track is a little Bollywood for me. Thereafter this becomes quite a lovely album. Will definitely revisit.
There is a reason why you have not heard the majority of songs on this album - They just are not good enough. Much as though I love The Beatles, this could and should have been an extraordinary single album. Why did they add the weak numbers? Because they thought they were invincible. For these reasons its a 3
Liked this a lot. Talented lady singing about her boyfriends and break ups a bit like Ray of Light but not quite as good
IRRITATING VOICE Deliberately irritating tracks Couldnt finish Wish I could give it -3
Reminded me of James. Nice A bit rocky in places They aint no Pink Floyd, if you are after Psychadelic rock
What is that sticking out of her pocket on the cover sleeve? Anyhow. Joni Mitchell. Can you recall more than one of her hits? Me neither. This is B O R I N G and indulgent. Take your pocket cock, old lady and never darken my earphones again!
Hip Hop shit hop not me do rap crap.
Their first album. They were chased to sign a record deal and this is it. Very talented musicians, unique voice but personally, I'd head straight for the greatest hits album.
Born out of the angst and pain of separation, deceit and divorce, this 11th Album of Fleetwood Mac is a tour de force. If any album is to be 5 stars, it's this one
Track after track has the same choppy guitar thing that makes them so recognisable. So ... a bit samey for me .3 Lucky 3
Dull boring derivitive jizz No! I'd rather listen to cats playing on a piano. Is there a person alive that remembers that Sunday at the Village Vanguard? I doubt if anyone recalled this performance day the following week!
Blobby mourning electronica. I have no idea why this became so popular. For better see Underworld /Orbital / Chemical Bros. I like electronica but will not be revisiting. The best I can draw from this experience is to know to avoid Aphex Twin in the future.
THe deathly hallows of his career. The fact he was dying when he made this does not excuse the general level of dark crappiness. Maybe he wasnt thinking straight. Should be remembered for some of his much, much better stuff. THere are one or two ok tracks and it is Bowie thus the 3
Cooooooool Jazz. Squidward would be proud
ok
Not as good as I remembered
Quite samey but a pleasant trip down memory lane for me.
I really like this. Reminds me of Santana
Mariachi band I love whilst painting . How do they carry the piano from bar to bar?
True story In about 1983/4 a girl from our group of friends was invited to a party in the middle of our seaside town and we all went mob handed. The main partygoers were in the kitchen but we stayed in the lounge where there was an impressive collection of tapes on the mantelpiece. When the host wandered in I thanked him for his kind hospitality and asked him about the music collection. He told me in a very self effacing and modest way that he used to be in a band in the 60's and I may or may not have heard of them - The Kinks. It was only afterwards that I realised how big they were and now it seems that their classics will live forever. I was speaking, of course to the one and only Ray Davies. Thanks for everything Ray. BTW the album is good!
Not his best work
Better than I expected yet nothing special at all
Its a 3 Bit dated One or 2 hits
African innocence
Its a solid 3.5 Is Jarvis an egotistical nerd? Probably but I like him. Saw him wandering around a festival once, looking normal. Thats my claim to fame with Jarvis Cocker
?Nah
I quite liked this Original and fresh They do themselves down with their name.
Better than I expected but my expectations were lower than a chameleons toe. One overplayed single and an average show. Someone with just a little talent should really do the right thing and go.
It's a nay nay from me.
Nitin Sawnhey rhymes with 'Not for me' An eclectic mix of hip hop beat songs, imams screeching, arabs ululating, indians warboffling, piano pieces. When I say mix, I mean hotch potch ITs a 2
Energy and humour. I'd give him a 4 if he wasn't a paedophile, marrying a 13 YO.
Some good grooves. Can't say they are overloaded with musical talent. Their main riff is that piano sound thingy
I appreciate that Goldie has taken the genre of drum n Base and elevated it with vocals and instrumentation but I will not be revisiting this album as I find it a little tricky to enjoy.
My streaming device (Amazon) couldn't find either the album or the artist so I'm putting this down as 'obscure'
Really?
Would make a suitable support band at a mid sized venue. Theres humour and rudeness. And terrible dreary vocals.
Good musicians, nice tunes
Some familiar famous tunes and some star quality. Quite good Dont like live albums though
When I saw the cover, my heart dropped because I thought it was going to be yet another hip hop or (c)rap album, however this is a lovely light and tuneful production worthy of another listen.
Worthy of further listening........
Phil Oakey's voice is a bit flat throughout. The sound is a bit samey. But it is still likeable to an oldie like me Youngsters may not be so charitable.
Think Louis Armstrong, then think not as good, show offy and irritating. Over scatting. You know what scat also means yeah?
Pensive and thoughtfully constructed, slow and sometimes ponderous. Poetic and arty. Not for me but will be loved by the depressed introspectives out there
Joan Armatrading's illigitimate daughter.... Quite good
Dreamy melodies, simple, American. Music to help you get to sleep.
twat
These guys are really good. Who are they? Seriously though, my only complaint is that some of the tracks may have been overplayed a little
Dont like their sound
No I dont
George was the spiritual Beatle and it shows in his music, unsurprisingly
There are shades of Talking Heads here because 2/3 make this. Hit or miss for me
Electro funk rap. I quite like it. aging
I dont like this as much as Blur who are apparently the same band?
Take the i and c from the name and what is left is my review....
Twee old fashioned French. First track is Greensleeves for gods sake
I dont do r n B and rap. Peeps seem confused as to how this made it to the list. THere is too much shite on the list
Start Spreadin the news, FRank is outdated
Cooooool Jazz man.
Yeah howdy pardner. Wife hates Dolly on account of her squeaky voice and oversize breasts so will have to leave this one till later. 4 star just in case
Stylish yet dated New Romantic band.
Dont like it this heavy actually
