I forgot how many amazing songs are on this album! Definitely a fun listen after hearing these songs less and less over the years.
I really enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It reminded me of music my grandpa would listen to in the car and, at the time, I didn’t appreciate it but now I think about what it must have been like to listen to it in a cool club when he was younger. There were moments I was cleaning and it gave me a little upbeat soundtrack without being my typical pop/hip hop/R&B or rock. Other times it was slow and created a cool vibe to chill to and I could imagine slow dancing to it with my husband at the same time. Glad this was early in the rotation!
I’ve listened to Johnny Cash most my life but I don’t think I’ve listened to this full album end to end before. I think I’d skip a few tracks on the next listen but I enjoyed exploring the songs I hadn’t heard and hearing the banter with the crowd at San Quentin.
This album is nostalgic for me and includes great tracks but also some skips. I think as I age, and now have kids, I find it harder to ignore or relate to some of the language but it takes me back to the times I could.
Such a great album. I listen to NIN a lot so this was just a reason to listen to the full album. One of my favs!
At times I was reminded of Pink Floyd, others of Daft Punk, and others of NIN. I didn’t know what to expect coming into this album and I wasn’t disappointed but definitely have specific songs I’d listen to regularly. Not sure I will listen to the full album.
This was an easy listen while I was working. I caught some Daft Punk, NIN, and Moby vibes throughout. I’m excited to listen to some of the other albums now (though skipped many of the remixes in disc 2 of this one now so maybe I’ll go back to those first).
I really enjoy jazz music and don’t know why I don’t listen to it more regularly. This and the following songs that came up on Spotify sound like something I could listen to at dinner, dance to, or hear on a vacation. Good vibes!
Great quick listen! I forget the other songs I knew from Sister Sledge and which have been sampled. Mood lifting album ◡̈
I felt like I was listening to personal stories that were sometimes easy to relate to and other times not as much, but still enjoyable. I don’t remember hearing many, if any, songs from this album and it was an easy listen but probably won’t be on repeat for me.
This is amazing. How have I not listened to this?
I’m not sure that I have ever heard this band before, but it sounds like a lot of other punk rock from their time. And I enjoyed it for the most part but not as much as other bands.
I’m honestly not sure what to think. At first I just couldn’t wrap my head around what I was hearing and it felt like people playing instruments and singing completely different songs from different locations and mashing it together. I liked the punk/reggae fusion but just still felt like a lot of it was disjointed. Some of the lyrics which much better than others. Just overall couldn’t get into it as much as I tried.
At first I thought Fred sounded like Elvis but then started feeling like it was more like a folky blues. I really enjoyed this and would relisten!
I really love Leonard Cohen and enjoyed the lyrics but I was disappointed everything was very talky instead of singing. I thought about Johnny Cash and how he still sang on his final albums even if it wasn’t the same as his younger years and wish there was a little more of that. I did enjoy the melodies from the back up singers in the latter half of the album.
I didn’t realize this would be jam band because I was expecting to hear the radio version of who do you love seeing the track list. I figured out early on they must have been recording live because everything seemed to blend together but was expecting more singing. I don’t mind jam bands when I’m in the mood but it always seems like they just know each others’ sound and play without really defining any specific songs (even the lyrics here sounded improvised) and I imagine a concert would never have the exact same version as the album (or any shows would be the same) which is cool when you’re in the mood for that. Not sure I would listen to the album again but would enjoy them live I’m sure!
I love Marvin Gaye. This album was almost too cohesive as I’d not notice the track changed at times and that a new song was playing. It was good background music but there was nothing that stood out enough for my ears to perk up.
I enjoy this type of soulful music, it just falls into the category of songs that sound a lot alike when you’re not really paying attention to the lyrics. But I actually enjoyed more songs on this album than I expected on first listen since I only knew a couple to start.
I think I would get into this if it was just the instrument jamming and more singing (I enjoyed the singing but there really weren’t many lyrics). I just couldn’t get into the mix of random sounds and talking along with the traditional instruments because of how it was put together. Would listen to entire Pink Floyd albums and never question those type of things so maybe it’s just that it was live? Anyway, not sure I would listen again.
This would be great to listen to live! Muddy Waters is one of the few blues singers I know by name and while I don’t have blues on my regular rotation, it’s fun to listen to when I’m in the mood. Great album!
This album takes me back! I have many of the songs already downloaded on Spotify and I forgot about some of the other collaborations (namely, Aaliyah). Missy is a great artist and now I want to listen to her other albums.
The Beatles are amazing and The White Album has some of my favorite tracks. There are moments where I easily can imagine their music coming out in more recent years and others where their sound is squarely in the sound of their time. I think there are more experimental efforts here and, in particular, Revolution 9 sounds like a fever dream. Overall this is a great album and I would give a 5 without a few of the skips.
Quintessential 80s. This is a great album and nostalgic for me growing up with parents who listened to 80s and classic rock. A few of the tracks are skips for me but love the radio hits.
This is what people think of when they think about Jimi. I don’t often listen to more than the “popular” songs so it was fun to listen through the full album.
I have always known of the velvet underground but not really tied them to the era they’re actually from (seems like they were played a lot on rock stations that played newer rock so associated them with being from a more recent decade). I enjoyed this album, it reminded me of the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Bob Dylan all wrapped into one. Will definitely listen again!
I like bluegrass now and then but typically when it’s live music and fits the feeling I’m ready for. I’ve noticed doing the one album a day, sometimes my mood is mismatched with the music and I try not to let that bias my reviews. With this album, it felt like a lot of the songs blended together and even in the mood for this music, it can be hard to get into when nothing pops out well in the album.
I enjoyed this listen - it was a change from the past several albums I’ve had generated on here and a good one. Reminded me of Michael Jackson, Prince, and New Edition wrapped in one. For me, the highlight was Who’s Loving You.
I like some Hot Chip songs but haven’t really been introduced to more than the occasional song on another “artist radio” while streaming. Although this one wasn’t something I feel compelled to listen to over again, I do think I’ll listen to the other Hot Chip albums since I enjoy their style.
I loved Nas when I was younger and haven’t really listened to him much in the past few years. This album is great overall, and Represent is a standout for me. I think this is his best album and one of the best rap albums.
At times I felt like I could be on vacation, at others watching a sensual tango in a movie, and then there were some when I felt like I was listening to hold music. The remixes helped, particularly the one with Antipop Consortium, but overall this was not for me.
Billie has such a unique voice and listening to her makes me think what it would have been like to see her play live when these albums came out. I read about this album being a stylistic change but wasn't prepared for how sad it was.
This was an easy listen. I felt like I could be listening to different albums throughout because each song kind of had its own sound. They remind me of classic rock that I listened to growing up with my parents, but I don’t think I ever listened to them, specifically. I would give us another listen!
I really enjoyed the music but cannot separate from how much the vocals just did not land well for me. Even if there had been just a little more variation to the vocals, I think I would have enjoyed them vastly more. But there was almost a monotone scream singing that I couldn’t even make out most of the lyrics due to. And then randomly at the end of the album, the last few tracks had a different singer which, I thought hey, I can focus on the music, but then I focused on the vocals not sounding matched to punk music. Giving a 2 only because the music is really good.
I like The Who and haven’t listened to this album end to end before. I read a lot about the band’s history during this and their failed attempts (and even the lukewarm reception to this album) and was surprised by that since I’ve heard them on radio since I was a kid. I really enjoy their sound and vocals but this album didn’t keep me as interested as I expected, unfortunately.
David Bowie is one of my favorite artists, but this is not my favorite album of his. I am partial to the older albums, but I still enjoyed listening to this because it’s been a little while since I have. The standouts for me were Lazarus and I Can’t Give Everything Away.
I think I only knew Supersonic from this album and was pleasantly surprised with the style of rock on this album in comparison to champagne supernova and wonderwall which are two of their biggest hits. This album reminded me of The Smashing Pumpkins at times and just generally, felt like the type of rock I would have listened to in the 90s.
This was a solid album. I liked the different sound throughout, with some songs sounding like they could come out today and some that sound classic. There were some Elvis Costello and Simon and Garfunkel vibes and I think the only dislike for me was some out of place cowbell (which I’m typically cool with it just didn’t fit well where it was placed).
I had no idea what to think coming in, but this was a cool mix of David Bowie, REM, Billy Idol, Depeche Mode, The Smiths/Cure and most the things I like about the New Wave sound but still keeping a punk style in there. I will listen to some of their other albums now!
I like funk and this album was a fun listen but definitely let me wanting more in comparison to other Funkadelic and Parliments music.
This is the shortest album I think I’ve ever listened to. This sounded like Black Flag with somehow Presidents of the United States of America mixed in. Seems like a short lived go in the 80s for them but I’m guessing the members found other bands or did solo work. Seems like they probably paved the way for a lot of other punk bands I’ve listened to!
Another album that I know songs from but haven’t listened to end to end. I feeling like this album showcased their rock/blues style really well and there were even some country sounding elements. I like The Rolling Stones and nothing surprised me here, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I like metal and sometimes death metal but there’s a mood and when you’re not in it this just doesn’t hit right. For what it is and how short the album was I wasn’t too harsh in my ratings.
I think for every fast there was a slow song and that was nice for a change but I also feel like as an adult I realize how much Elvis used black music to make it and I’m not sure how much he gave back to that community in return. I will need to look that up but this also wasn’t my favorite in terms of his music overall anyway.
I have never heard of Jazmine Sullivan but this was a great album and I will add to my rotation! I enjoyed the storytelling in between songs and the positive message about sex.
There were definitely songs in can see myself adding to my rotation from this album. The Bongo Bongs song was a fun highlight for me that I didn’t expect. I can understand about half of the words at once (still learning Spanish) and this just makes me want to learn faster. I like the sound and am going to listen to more of his albums now!
This would be incredible live! I think the songs being as long as they are can make the music monotonous without surprising changes throughout, which happened more in some songs than others. The drum solo (final song) was a highlight here.
Having a headache when that first song starts, made me dislike everything in an instant lol. As the songs went on, I was reminded of Datarock at times so the music definitely had a more modern feel and was not what I expected from a late 70s album. Overall I couldn’t get into it but it was an interesting listen.
Queen Latifah is amazing and I’ve always enjoyed her acting as well as her music. She had great features on this album and it was nostalgic to listen to.
I think I have only ever heard schools out from this album and I wish I had listened to it sooner because I like other songs on the album as well. There were a few where Alice changed his voice and it kind of threw me off, but I also appreciated Slightly different styles across the songs. I also liked his humor at the end at the end of Alma Mater. Overall a great album!
Masterpiece. Felt like I was in a dreamland the entire listen.
I have never listened to this album and to end, and it was worth the lesson. I enjoyed orange moon and in love with you A lot.
I came for sweet dreams, I learned new things. I enjoyed listening to end, but not sure how many songs I would listen to again.
Great album with some of the hits. There are a few skips, though, but such easy listening.
Great album! Maybe I’m Amazed is one of my favorite songs and this album was a short, fun listen.
I liked the lyrics and understand how people might love his music. I felt like at times I was listening to a Louie Armstrong song, but at others like the Tasmanian Devil and/or songs from team America. Not sure how much I’d listen when it’s not a super popular song.
I have never heard of or listened to Joan’s music and I think this was the best discovery yet since joining the album generator. I downloaded the album and excited to listen again!
Fun listen that reminded me of all the sampling of theirs and similar music. I would listen to this again end to end which I don’t say about many of these albums.
This was a super short album (even though it says it has bonus tracks!) and I think it’s a great one. Reminds me of so many other classic rock albums I listened to growing up but I’m not sure if I’d heard any of these songs or not.
This brought me back! I listened to a lot more heavy metal as a teenager into my early 20s and less as I got older. Sepultura is one of the best in their genre and although it’s not an album for every mood, I enjoyed the listen.
I definitely have heard The Girl
From Ipanema at some point and couldn’t put my finger on when/where. It and the rest of the album were perfect for relaxing to.
I’ve never listened to FKA twigs and I’m sad that it took me a decade from this album release to hear it! And that Spotify has never recommended it based on being similar to music I already listen to. She’s heading into the rotation!
A great album with multiple hits. I enjoyed listening end to end and realized how long it’s been since I’ve heard some of the songs. Reminder to add it to my Spotify!
This was like a French NIN at times and others it sounded like Leonard Cohen’s final album. I couldn’t stay into it with the multiple changes in sound of the music throughout but enjoyed the metal jams that sound more like Metallica/pantera/NIN.
I’m surprised I haven’t heard this album since it’s one of the sounds I lean toward but I’m so happy I found this! I already downloaded the album and am excited to hear more. I feel like I’ve heard 1-2 songs by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and didn’t get the same vibe so maybe the radio plays aren’t really representative.
What a fun listen! This included some nostalgic hits and was a great mood boost.
This was a great album! The lyrics were sad and sorrowful, but also romantic throughout, and Nina’s voice is extremely comforting in all of those emotions.
I’m a fan of Kate Bush and appreciate her eclectic and theatrical style but I think this is the first end to end listen for me and I would much prefer these songs to be sprinkled throughout a movie rather than listen to them back to back.
I’ve never heard this band and I feel like it was familiar but I’m not sure why. Probably just the sound of the lead vocals. It was a good album but I wasn’t pulled in enough to listen to the lyrics well on the first go so since it’s short, I might give a second listen, which must mean I didn’t hate it.
I’ve heard many of these songs and those I hadn’t still felt very familiar. Frank is great and this was an easy, uplifting listen!
I was not prepared for a 5+ hour album and it took me multiple days to finish. I enjoyed the cohesiveness of the sound throughout, though, many times I wouldn’t have known I was on a new song without checking. I definitely enjoyed the change ups to slower beats since many of the songs tended to use a very similar, repetitive beat. I’m sure I’d listen again in a rotation but not sure I’d download the full albums.
I really don’t know what to make of this album. There were times when it seemed like a harder rock, Elvis and other others when it reminded me of primus, but throughout the album, I couldn’t really tell if I was even still listening to the same thing and even the same artist with so many different vocal stylings. it wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t something I can see myself listening to again with the exception of a few songs.
Ahhhh, this brings me back! De la is amazing and I was excited to see this album pop up. I had forgetten they use Wichita as a location for one of the contestants at the beginning of the album, which is where I’m from, so it was even better hearing it. You can’t not move to me myself and I. Loved the listen!
Obviously, love song is amazing, but I was surprised by how much I could hear their influence on so many bands throughout. I would think, oh this sounds like _____ band but it’s really that they sound like the cure. Great album!
I’m not sure what I was expecting but given that it was a 60s album, it wasn’t to hear a funny song at the start of the album. I love his sound and it reminded me of who Seth McFarland might have listened to before creating funny songs.
I love Beck and feel like he’s done so many great albums. This one feels like I need to be in the mood for a slower record, but I enjoy his styling and calming voice.
This was trippy, and I guess it was supposed to be. There were many parts I just liked the music and the lyrics did not match the expectations perfectly. They’re like a 60s tenacious d but with a sound from the time. So many thoughts and I really can’t figure out what to rate so I guess I’m neutral.
Exactly what you need if you want to listen to the Beatles. Not my all time favorite album of theirs but still great and I love in my life so happy to hear it anytime!
Reminded me of Pink Floyd, which is a plus. I recognized one song and my favorite was the only instrumental.
Never heard him before (that I know of) but I enjoyed the listen! Felt like I should have been watching a movie it was the soundtrack to. I’m not sure that I would listen to this exact album end to end again but I would like to hear more of his music.
Love Joni Mitchell and was happy to finally have an album of hers on here! Short album as well but some great music!
Has some of the hits you think of when you think of Coldplay and was a cohesive album! I’m not sure that I would listen to it end to end again but it fit what I expected based on knowing a few of the songs ahead of time.
I’m biased since I grew up listening to Nirvana and have a lot of nostalgia tied to the band, their songs, and specifically, this unplugged show. I watched it a ton! Having said that, hearing all the hits together, live, just reminds me how great they were! Excellent album.
Great to grove to. Felt like a nice mashup of multiple artists and genres I prefer. Now just need to learn the words!
I have always heard Fiona Apple’s albums were worth my time and I’ve been sleeping on her for too long. I only knew Criminal on this album, which was nostalgic to listen to, but was pleasantly surprised by the entire rest of the album, both musically and lyrically. Will be checking out more of her music!
Definitely had the 90s indie/alt rock sound and reminded me of so many bands during that time. There were some choices musically and lyrically I didn’t care for, but it overall is what I would expect from a mid-90s album of this genre.
I grew up listening to Elton John with my mom, so this was fun to listen to and reminisce. There were a few songs I hadn’t heard before and had a little different style than the rest, which was cool to hear.
I listened to The Prodigy when I was younger and haven’t for a very long time so it was cool to hear something that sounds like what I remember from them. I found myself picking out all the common sounds they use in their beats which was interesting. There’s something unique about their style even though I would categorize it with other EDM-like genres.
I had just had someone mention Coltrane and then got this album to listen to.
Reminded me of the jazz bed the DJ played at my wedding reception during the dinner. Easy to chill out to!
This felt very familiar even though I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. This style of country rock reminds me of music I listened to with my parents growing up and I really enjoyed the entire album!
Classic album. I enjoy The Beatles and feel like I really love many of their songs and others are easier skips for me, which always leaves me torn when rating their albums.
I didn’t know I was a George Michael fan until now! I knew popular hits from him and with Wham and was surprised how much I enjoyed this album. It was interesting how many times I thought about newer artists I like having a similar sound throughout.
This is the type of music I prefer live and would give it a 5/5 all day long. I’m not sure why I can’t get into it as much listening at home or from the car. But the music is great and I think it’s a cool idea for someone to play a bunch of music from other greats (looks like John Zorn has a ton of albums so this is likely why).
I enjoyed most of this album (probably more disc 2 than 1) but I don’t particularly like the songs with the voice change effect. These aren’t the “hits” I remember as much but still some solid tracks.
Depeche Mode is nostalgic for me and although there are some skips for me on this particular album, I enjoyed it overall.
Reminds me of bring a teenager and playing video games. I don’t think this was the album I’ve listened to before but sounds like everything I remember about chemical brothers!
I think I listened to this album 3 times before I finally rated. I just kept thinking about how much more Janis could have done if she was still here. There are a couple skips for me here but overall just such a great album!
I feel a love/hate relationship with Tom Waits. The instrumentals really draw me in and the entire album feels like it should be set to a movie. I just also feel like I can’t listen to his particular vocal styling unless I’m in the right mood.
I got really confused when the interview parts started.
All the hits you know and love and just such great music. I love the guitar and their voices are nostalgic.
I knew what I was getting with The Who but I don’t think I’ve listened to any of their live albums before, though, I didn’t actually feel like it was live while listening most the time. Would be great in the car on a road trip!
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Pulp but it reminded me of David Bowie which is one of my favorite artists. I really enjoyed the album and saved it and will be checking out their other music!
This felt like a movie soundtrack. Some tracks were too monotonous for me and I found myself skipping ahead only to find that it sounded so much the same I couldn’t tell I skipped forward. I needed more variation even if I like the sound for the most part.
This reminded me of a cross between Oasis and James Blunt. When I heard Babylon, I thought, OK I know who this is now, but have not heard any of his other songs that I know of. I felt like the album was cohesive, but almost too similar across the songs. Lyrically, I thoroughly enjoyed and would listen again.
