Debbie's voice 🫶 Starts off with a banger at #1, sets the mood. #2 is one of their most famous songs. #3 Picture This - That's a definite keeper. #4 brings the mood to chill, nice little break. There's some nice songs after that but maybe a second listen will help appreciate them more. Number 10 is kinda taking up all the anticipation for me 👀 And there it is, the only disco track no one will bitch at 🥲 Didn't know the lyrics included the Spanish word Mucho, in mucho mistrust. Also that the original line at 2:55 was pain in the ass 😂
The music is great but the mood is too pensive to enjoy without the proper frame of mind and a more adequate setting than a busy workday. I can see why it's such a famous album though, it has a ton of feeling and just mastery of making the kind of music that makes the mind wanna swim.
I like the cover 😂 It's certainly true to the title in regards to the lyrics and music. This was surely the music of those old rebels without a cause of yore 😎 Old school cool but not like Grease or those Old Navy commercials, more like the car culture and gang fights. #7 Jump, Jive, An' Wail I've heard in a commercial somewhere. #1 is a great start as usual with old albums. Certainly a runner up for an entrance song 😂 #12 is an awesome Valentine's song but by far the funniest is #10 with a bang! It's a fun album for sure.
I love seeing live music, I hate listening to recorded live music. The singer is proficient I guess but nothing about her singing seemed interesting to me. Maybe just a terrible song selection. Not sure why this is listed as a great album.
The music is fantastic and if you can follow the story, it's just that much better. A solid listen for sure.
Immigrant Song is a favorite of mine. They just go so hard with that driving beat. The blues influence is heavy here, at times soaked in some fine acid, and always blowing out those speakers. I can see why they're such a big influence on everyone. The screaming is a bit much after a while. Definitely have to be partaking in some chemical enhancers to really go on this trip 😂
I knew the classics Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want. They still sound as good as they ever have. The more I listen to these old albums, the more I'm noticing how heavily influenced they are by blues. Personally I like the faster songs with less crooning and weeping. I was pleasantly surprised by Live With Me and You Got The Silver. Unexpectedly romantic songs from a band I associate with just loud and in your face rock.
This was a rough one for me 😅 The music itself is interesting, very 80s with the loud drums and synth sounds. Makes me wanna roll up the sleeves on my sports coat 😎 But just about every song makes me think of kids cartoons, like Ghostbusters or Goosebumps 😂 I feel like the Cryptkeeper is gonna start laughing at any second. Some songs are just odd, like New Dehli and Tiptoes. Most songs seem to be about memory, what used to be and how. Their most well known hit, Our House, speaks of a childhood that seems so foreign to me but not unknown. It's very much not something I'd listen to on my own.
Never been too big a fan of 60s music. This is not bad but all the British hippie slang was a bit much 😂 Track 3 is my favorite and I wish it wasn't so short.
The first track is iconic and an anthem of the 90s 🥲 I never knew if smack referred to the drug. First time I've ever heard loud energetic club music that I didn't immediately dislike. Most of the music I had heard sounded like angry robots fkn. This had more of a mix of different samples and just had a very aggressive driving epic sound. It was all over the place in the 90s for sure. O find it still holds up. It's a good album to get hyped for the workout sessions at least 😂
This is the color beige in album form. Although in the most daredevil sections, it does attempt to make you fall asleep through some daring crooning about something or another. Miss American Pie is the most famous track off this album and it has always been grating to my ear. I don't know if it's the sadly saccharine tone and how it goes on about a changing America that has never existed for a lot of us, or maybe it's just the singer's nasal vanilla voice. It was a tough sit through the rest of the album.
I wanna like Ozomatli. They obviously have a great feel for the music of LatAm and mix it well with some funky acidic old rock. But then they go and derail it with some really bad rapping. Really kills the vibe.
Three stars because it's Bowie. Minus two because instrumentals.
A mood piece for sure. I think you have to be in the right mindset to really follow this piece. It's obviously deeply personal and there just being vocals and guitar, you're almost in the room with Nick. It was a difficult listen for me but I might try it again.
There's some melody and an intent to be different. Just doesn't quite find it's place for me.
More bluesy than their other stuff. You can hear Morrison just at his maximum belligerent. There's some good songs here but as a whole the album is pretty average.
That Dylan cadence it's just a bit too much to sit through a whole album. It gets a bit annoying and grating after a while. It's best in very small doses. I just can't get into it enough to see this as the important musical jewel it's supposed to be.
Brought back some memories from the turn of the century 🥲 I didn't remember all the filler and skits and such. Could use more of André rapping instead of that stuff.
It's Incubus. It's nice safe radio friendly church social background music.
This was a very nice surprise. The music is a bit more on the slow, melodic side but it's great. One of those rare albums you can listen to from beginning to end.
A very solid album with some amazing songs. The first track just takes you right back to the 90s.
Each song is good but getting through the album was rough as they sounded the same after a while. Great Beach Boys melody, heavily soaked in the synthetizer silliness of the Beta Band and coated in campy tv commercial hopefulness.
It's not even worth talking about sadly. I know we're supposed to be expanding our horizons here but some are just really bad choices.
A bit of nostalgia and it's certainly an interesting band but just a bit too dark for me. Maybe if the algorithm hadn't suggested on a Friday morning. Rooster is definitely a haunting song.
It's not bad but not what I'd listen to normally
Is British stuff like 75% of this list?
Dolly is an amazing singer and an national treasure. The music here is old school country so a bit outside of my usual stuff but it's always nice to listen to an American icon.
The music is generic at best. The lyrics and singing are terrible. How someone's garage band made it to this list of beyond me.
The music is good and I enjoyed some of the songs. Kinda middle of the road for me. I'd probably give it a second listen.
Since it's not a genre I enjoy, it's kinda of a slog to get through. By most accounts it's quite the piece inasfar as this kinda music goes. It sounds exactly like you'd expect I suppose. It's not bad, it's just not anything I'd be inclined to visit or revisit. It's a bit disheartening to read there's another 4 albums by this band on the list. I hope the logarithm gives me something that isn't 60s rock or British pop.
I had to deduct stars because I hate live recordings. Also because this was an odd mix of full songs and instrumentals as songs. James Brown is a fantastic entertainer and I wish I could have seen live.
Just some of the goofiest lyrics I've ever heard but also some interesting music. The acoustic songs Shelter In Your Arms and Train In The Distance are closer to what I expected out of Paul Simon, not songs of cars and allergies. Two stars for two cool funky and different music.
Nice relaxing record 😎👍
It was better music than I expected based on Song 2 but not very interesting in comparison to other contemporary bands.
Live recordings are a terrible format.
Some of the best sad music ever.
Just really hard music for me to listen to. The lyrics seem interesting but I tend to fall asleep around the first line. The title alone while telling didn't prepare me for so much softness.
Just a solid album from beginning to end. One of the rare 5 stars for me on this list of British music.
I can appreciate the mastery of each instrument but just can't get into the noise.
There's some promising sections but it just keeps dropping the ball with some bad off key singing.
The music is great, the lyrics are weird and the singing was very hit and miss.
More bland British pop.
Just more bland British Rock music. I'm beginning to think the majority of these thousand albums are gonna be this kinda milquetoast sleepy stuff.
Generally not my kind of music but Joni does have some feeling and heart in her singing and her lyrics. I can see why it's on this list.
Certainly an album that marked a turn for hip hop music. It is certainly aggressive and rough but some of the social issues it points to still apply. Fuck The Police was as true then as it is now and it's the best track on the album.
How did a small country like the UK make so much synth rock that it all became awesome and wound up on this list? Just 80s romcom montage music with awkward lyrics. I hope we're leaving the UK soon given the rest of the world also makes music.
Generic, forgettable, might as well be more of that Brit pop the authors love so much.
Old rock but this one is actually interesting and has some charm. I can see why Iggy is cited by many as a big influence. I'm sure he was electric live.
The music is entertaining but I kept expecting to hear a "your call is important to us - a representative will be right with you!" in the middle of each song.
Kinda middle of the road for me. I appreciate the weird sounds merged with the music. Where the beat picks up, it's great but then we dive into just noisy keening by the singer which is hard to sit through. Hoping there's a better record of theirs here somewhere.
Just not an enjoyable voice. Some of the lyrics were interesting but the album just couldn't decide where it was going. The music itself was good.
Danceable 👍 but it's a constant energy like that, no breathing room, no real build up.
Wish I could give it 0 stars for taking up the space of a decent album.
I liked the voice in some songs but the lyrics are kinda random at times. The music is all over the place as well. Not something I'd revisit.
I really dislike live recordings but Johnny is hard to not like. Such a charismatic and relatable singer. Song selection isn't what I'm into but he makes it work.
Just not my kind of music or mood at all. Super slow and hard to get through.
This was breath of refreshing after weeks of sad boy music and British weirdness. The musicians are super talented and the singer is great. The lyrics are mostly odd 😂 Bonin' In The Boneyard is by far the best track. The bass got slapped around hard on that one and the wildness of that song earned it an extra star. It's a nice, fun albeit weird record.
Just terrible music.
Some good songs on this album but also some sappy soft stuff. Best songs are Superstition and I Believe to close the record.
More terrible British noise.
This list is seriously making me dislike British anything. But this was a pleasant surprise. I think the singer is fantastic and the music is enjoyable.
It has one or two ok songs.
Nice change of pace from sad British music. Only three stars though because I didn't the music particularly compelling.
Just more terrible British Rock
I like some of the music but the singing is very hit and miss.
Music sounded ok but meh overall
It's just hard to stay awake on this one.
Live album and soft music, immediate discard for me.
Not much I liked here but I do like the artist.
There's nothing of value here. Crowd sourced lyrics that play at being inspired channeled through a mannequin who can sing.
Breath of fresh air in the middle of sad boy music and terrible British Rock. It's a bit dated but it's loud and energetic and a welcome break. The fifth star is just for that.
Some of MJs biggest hits with some lesser known stuff. Baby Be Mine was a nice surprise. It kinda loses steam towards the end with some terrible lyrics, including the McCartney train wreck. Still all the way up to Billie Jean, it's a pretty solid album. An extra star for not being that British noise this list continues to throw at me.
Perhaps the worst band of the nu metal era. Korn, Deftones did emotional dark angry music much better than LP. Slipknot did the angry part better too. If you wanted someone who could actually rap, you could listen to RATM. Although I'm not surprised this album is here considering some of the other terrible stuff that's on this list.
This is fast becoming the 1,001 albums to avoid.
Great voice although not my kinda music.
A few hits but mostly weirdness.
Another baffling choice for a Greatest list.
Not sure why the authors thought we needed to hear this noise.
Snoozefest
More British noise
Refreshing album in this sea of British nonsense. I liked the mix of musical styles and even the odd lyrics but the instrumentals are always a minus for me. Overall a decent album, probably deserves a second listen.
Great album!
Nice old school country sound 👍
Odd record with a couple of hits.
