⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 Love the hives, saw them live a few years ago. Their latest album is amazing. Don't understand why the listmakers went for a compilation album. They've got great albums, guess the listmakers arent ready for that

Notes before listening: - I do know queen and know this album, I have heard to Bohemian Rhapsody a few times. Although I like the gimmicks of the song, I think the song is a bit overhyped and gets a lot more praise than it deserves. However, maybe in the context of the album the song will jump out as something out of this world. During listening: Was strange hearing someone else besides Freddy sing a Queen song on "Im in love with my car". So far the album really reminds me of Electric Light Orchestra. During "39" another song not sung by Freddy. Is this Brian May? Great voice! Works well with the Queens aesthetic. Favorite song thusfar, very uplifting, like an irish pub song. Brian May really carrying the band in Sweet Lady. Love of my life - another song besides Bohemian Rhapsody Ive heard before, how could I have forgotten this song. Great album overall, knows how to keep your attention, especially during the acapella part . I think the hype and fanbase around Bohemian rhapsody really ruined the song for me, which is too bad because if it wasn't this overplayed Id have loved it in context of the album. 4/5

Highly Evolved by The Vines

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 Did not expect an album I grew up with on this list. I was actually surprised that this album made the list. If I wouldve made a book with influential bands from the 00s garage rock/postpunk revival this wouldnt be on the list. Don't get me wrong, I love this album. I would say the band is just a bit too niche for this album. I know the Strokes and Arctic Monkeys made the list, which I totally agree. But including the vines? Nahh. If the listmakers really wanted to include an influential niche 00s garage band the Hives shouldve been chosen. (This could be foreshadowing). Not gonna lie, I love this band especially Ride, which is not on this album. Would definitely listen to this album again. But would not call it legendary. Ps: its an Australian band, not British 🇦🇺 Favourite tracks: Outtatheway Get Free 1969 Country yard Least favourite: Factory Mary Jane 8/10

⭐ 1/10 Horrible. I hate that I've even heard this album. The lyrics read like they're written by a sex offender who is proud of his offences. Mind you, Alex Harvey apparently was 37 when this album released. Such whiney and cringe lyrics just to flex on us for having sex once in a while at that age? Thats just sad Favourite tracks: None Least favourite tracks: The full album

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Dec 18 2024

3/5 - Great listen. Nothing on the album really stands out, however, nothing about the album sounds annoying to me either. This album sounds like it could be part of a classic Disney cartoon, with mickey mouse and plants and boats bopping to the music. However, that being said, due to this it also sounds a bit generic for a jazz album. Darn that Dream is a great conclusion to the album. Love the vocals on it.

Dec 19 2024

5/5 - I think I've heard the album once or twice before. But never got the time to actively listen to it. Holy shit, I'm blessed on the 3rd day of this challenge. Instant classic album. The songs are tied to eachother so well. The solo on money is amazing. The smoothness of us and them is a bliss. Crazy ride of an album Pink Floyd is a band Ive never delven into, I cannot comprehend why I haven't done that.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Dec 20 2024

5/5 - Have I heard of this album before? No Do I like post-punk? Heck yes Fear of music is a somewhat older album (released 1979) yet still sounds so modern. The vocals and lyrics sound so raw and powerful. The rhythm section is a sound foundation in this band upon which great songs are written. "I need something to change your mind" Well this album changed me, will definitely return to it.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Dec 23 2024

2/5 The album starts of good with the song "Watch that man". But loses all the things set in motion with the album titled song "Aladdin Sane". It does not fit well compared to the song before and has a piano solo so dissonant it sounds like it couldve been written by the stand up comedian Jon Benjamin. After a few mediocre songs, the album only picks itself up the last few songs. "The Jean Genie" and "Lady Grinning Soul" are great songs on their own. However, it is too late and the mess cannot be salvaged by now. To me this album is a miss.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Dec 24 2024

8/10 Nothing bad to say about the album. The rhythmic section is incomparably amazing. I am not able to give it 5 stars however, because I do not think this album has some legendary status. Favourite tracks: Stir it up Least favourite tracks:

Peggy Suicide by Julian Cope
Dec 25 2024

Pristeen is not a song you would want to have as an album opener. The lyrics and vocals aren't good. The instrumentals on the other hand are good. Some grunge influences combined with psychedelic organs and guitar effects. These really save the album for me. 3/5 its alright

Dec 26 2024

4/5 Blast from the past. This album has some great bops on it. "Sleigh Ride" from the Ronettes being my favourite. Although it is strange (and a bit ironic) to hear Phil thanking you for listening and wishing you the happiest of new years while I was looking up and reading about his trials for murder. Merry Christmas everybody. Please don't go and kill your friends like Phil did. Only then, I could wish you the happiest of new years as well. 4/5

Tidal by Fiona Apple
Dec 27 2024

6/10 There is just some energy missing in this album. Fiona has a beautiful voice, but the album ends up becoming a bit dreary and slow. It loses all its energy on the song 'Never is a Promise' and doesnt pick itself up again. Favourite songs: Sullen Girl Shadowboxer Least favorite songs: Slow like honey Never is a promise

C'est Chic by CHIC
Dec 30 2024

6/10 The album is alright, however most songs are pretty forgettable. Favourite tracks: Le Freak I want your love Least favourite: Savoir Faire At last I am free

On The Beach by Neil Young
Dec 31 2024

8/10 All we need sometimes is some peace and quiet. This album is exactly that, the wailing guitars and the dissonant yet soothing vocals can only bring peace to mind when listening to the album. Favourite tracks: See the sky about to rain For the turnstiles Least favourite tracks: Motion Pictures (For Carrie)

Jan 01 2025

4/10 The album can best be described as a collage piece of artwork where the bits and pieces are glued together very awkwardly. You can hear that everyone in the band is super talented and has mastered their instrument. However, for me the songwriting is just plain bad. They've got all the elements to be a good progressive/psychidelic rock band but just don't seem to find the way to use those elements right in this album. Favourite tracks Nothin' to hide Space child Least favourite tracks Natures way Love has found a way

GREY Area by Little Simz
Jan 02 2025

7/10 Usually I'm not that into HipHop, however this album does slap. Starts out strong with the track Offense. The backing tracks remind me of the Beastie Boys with their funky beats. Unfortunately for me, the energy of the album gets weaker in the second half of it. The album goes towards a more soulfull direction. To me this does not fit her more direct and aggressive flow and vocals. Favourite tracks: Boss Selfish Least favorite tracks: 101FM Flowers

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Jan 03 2025

9/10 Great songs, definitely some classics on the album. Only point I have is that I wish they did not fade out the songs during interesting guitar licks. Favourite songs: Sultans of swing (obviously) Setting me Up Least favorite songs: Six blade knife

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Jan 04 2025

6/10 Personally I do not like slow soul songs. Unfortunately this album is mostly that. However, it does have some bopping bluesy almost psychedelic guitar licks which can be heard on the tracks: Walk on By and Hyperbolic. I wouldve given it 4 stars if not for the last song: By the time I Get to Phoenix. In this song Isaac tells a story and talks most of the time. The story is so predictable that it couldve been written by a 8 year old. Due to this I rate it 6/10. Favourite tracks: Walk on by Hyperbolic Least favorite track: By the time I get to Phoenix

London Calling by The Clash
Jan 05 2025

10/10 An album with only legendary and strong songs on it. The Clash is more than just a punk band, you can hear influences from different styles on the album such as ska, raggae and rockabilly. Favourite tracks: Clampdown Death or Glory Hateful London Calling Least favourite tracks: Jimmy Jazz

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Jan 06 2025

7/10 Album sounds homely, like smoking weed and jamming out with your friends. Although I agree that The Velvet Underground gets more praise than they should get, there are definitely some songs I would return to. Favourite songs: Candy says Beginning to see the light Least favourite tracks: Murder mystery After hours

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Jan 07 2025

6/10 Pleasant to listen to, to me nothing on the album stands out.

Raw Power by The Stooges
Jan 08 2025

9/10 Damn great album. Had to get used to the vocals being way louder than the band, but after a few songs it hit me. The pure raw energy of the vocals combined with the reckless guitar solos make this album outstanding. Will I return to this album? Probably definitely. Favourite tracks: Search and destroy Raw power Death trip Least favorite tracks:

John Prine by John Prine
Jan 09 2025

6/10 Good songs, great and relatable lyrics. Especially on Illegal smile. Sometimes the lyrics get a bit too cheesy as do the vocals overall. Slide guitars sound great on the album. I like the album, but probably won't listen to the songs again. 6/10

Highly Evolved by The Vines
Jan 10 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 Did not expect an album I grew up with on this list. I was actually surprised that this album made the list. Jan 11 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 9/10 I agree that the album might be considered repetitive. But as a counter argument, that is what makes most house/electronic music so good. Furthermore, older electronic dance music tracks are simply just longer than more recent ones. Like it or not, it just cannot be denied how influential Fatboy Slim is for dance music. Samples which can still be recognized 25 years after the release of the album. Maybe the closest we've been to such an influential album is 10 years ago with the release of Settled by Disclosure. Personally Fatboy Slim remains to be an artist which I'd love to see perform live someday. Favourite tracks: Right Here, Right Now Rockafeller Skank In Heaven Gangster Trippin Praise you Acid 8000 Least favourite tracks: Kalifornia

Jan 12 2025

7/10 Great vocalist. Would probably return to some songs or relisten this album again. I do not like the folk elements in the album, not a cheesy as the lumineers Hey Ho; but still the late 00's early 10's folkrock scene is something we should all be ashamed for letting happen. The synths work perfectly with the vocals in the album.

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Jan 14 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 5/10 Album is allright, but didnt impress me much.

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Jan 15 2025

⭐⭐ 4/10 Nice listen, but not my kind of music as it is too calm for my likings. I do understand why people would like this, as it is very peaceful music. Wild World is definitely the best song of the album. The others are really forgettable. The album does remind me of Graceland by Paul Simon.

Headquarters by The Monkees
Jan 16 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 6/10 The music is okay, feels like I'm listening to an album for kids. But maybe that's because of the time it was released in.

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Jan 17 2025

2/10 The production value on Queen of Denmark is awful. Most instruments sound like they've been played from a midi keyboard with free sound pack in garageband. Furthermore, to me John Grant tried hard to write deep and meaningful lyrics. However they sound bland and forced most of the time. Is there a good song on the album? Yeah I kinda digged "Chicken Bones" for the funky vibe. Not an album which should be listened to before you die.

Jan 18 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 Lovely to listen to, was happy to get another talking heads album after being surprised by Fear of Music. Keep in mind that I've never listened to them before this list. Although I loved FOM and marked that album as a legendary one (5 stars). I think More songs about buildings and food is a bit more awkward than FOM, the funk is lost a few times during this album contrary to FOM. Favourite tracks: Found a Job Not in love Least favourite tracks: Artist only Take me to the river

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jan 19 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 I usually listen to the daily albums during my commute. Due to the length of this album it took a bit longer than one train to work. What else should I say except; I like it. For a jazz album it feels very modern due to the use of electric instruments rather than just acoustic. Due to this it sometimes listens like a jazz fusion album released in the past 10 years. Yeah the jazz is a bit free and sometimes hard to follow. I would argue that this album would be amazing while being under the influence. But can't go to work on a buzz unfortunately.

Jan 20 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 Before this I've only ever heard tainted love. But this album really surprises me on how the synthesisers are used. Especially for an album from 1981 they have a synth sound design which still sounds so modern. This can best be heard on the song Memorabilia. The only minus is that the album is really way too long. Favourite tracks: Tainted Love Chips on my shoulder Say Hello, Wave Goodbye Memorabilia Least favourite songs: Seedy film Facility film

Jan 21 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 5/10 There's only one muse album which can be considered heavily influential and that is Origin of Symmetry. What Muse does in this album and the way they continue afterwards is add way too much forced symphonic Intermezzos in the album. 'Soldiers Poem', 'Hoodoo' and ', Glorious' are three of these. Songs that structurally go nowhere. Nevertheless there are definitely some good songs on the album with Knights of Cydiona being the highlight (They should've ended with this song). Matthew Bellamy never really struck me as a good singer, which is mostly due to the *HEAVY BREATHING NOISE* after every damn sentence. His guitar skills on the other hand are impressive and sometimes even exceptionally good.

Rattlesnakes by Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
Jan 23 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 5/10 Because of the horrible album I've had to listen to yesterday, I was actually afraid it was going to be another one of these days when I read the top review. However, Rattlesnakes is a nice listen. The album makes use of calm new wave guitars, combined with the sometimes a bit awkward vocals from Lloyd Cole. There are some bops on the album: Perfect skin, Rattlesnakes, Are you ready to be heartbroken. But nothing really to blow your socks off or write home about. It's a good album, pretty forgettable. 5/10

Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears

💣💣💣💣💣 I rate this album 5/5 BOOMS! BOOM! 💪, BOOM! 💪, BOOM! 💪, BOOM! 💪, BOOM! 💪

Station To Station by David Bowie
Jan 25 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bowies vocals are spectacular on this album. Beautiful sound but still a very classic rock album. Definitely an album Id have to return to. Favourite tracks: Golden years Stay TVC 15

Colour By Numbers by Culture Club
Jan 27 2025

6/10 I knew the singles of the album already and liked those. The album i good, but a lot of the same. Songs sound very similar. The album closer isn't good in comparison to the other songs, due to this it doesnt end on a strong note Good listen but will not return to it in my free time.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Jan 28 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 6/10 I've got this album from my dad's vinyl collection. Listened to it a few times, I remember the first time listening to it thinking I had my vinyl player set up too slow for this record. I checked the vinyl, however to my surprise it was set up to the right speed. Money for Nothing and Walk of Life are impeccable songs. However the other songs on the album, though beautiful, are just too much soft slow rock for me.

The Score by Fugees
Jan 29 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 6/10 The album starts strong but then becomes dreary. After the weird intro the song 'How Many Mics' start with a great beat and nice flow making you think, I'm up for something good'. This feeling continues till the song Family Business. After this the soulful song 'Killing me softly' stalls this flow. The funk doesn't return afterwards and the album becomes hard to listen to with 'Cowboys' being the only nice song on the second half of the album. Would've given it 4 stars if the album weren't this long.

Rocks by Aerosmith
Jan 30 2025

⭐⭐ 4/10 Had to listen to van Halen and Led Zeppelin afterwards to rinse my ears. The vocals and funk feel awkward at best. I was looking forward to Aerosmith as I've never heard an album from them before, but this one does not hit the spot.

Public Image: First Issue by Public Image Ltd.
Jan 31 2025

⭐⭐ 3/10 It isn't the worst thing I've been gifted from the album generator gods. Public Image and Religion II are actually pretty good songs. But the album is just too strange to be considered good. Starts out with a weird 9 minute long song about the singer wanted to die, ends with a strange experimental song where the singer expesses it wants to be loved. Weird songs, but not in a good sense, wish it had more songs like Public Image

Young Americans by David Bowie
Feb 01 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 I'd understand the low ratings if you are expecting a soul album. However, as someone coming in blind, this is a hell of a yacht rock album. Reminds me of Steely Dan. Great, its sad that this jazzy pop sound isn't popular today anymore, would've loved it if more artists were able to make music like this.

Arise by Sepultura
Feb 02 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 7/10 Delayed to listen to this album too much. Because I only listen during my morning commute this album had to prove itself a lot; as its hard to listen to trash before you even had coffee. But it was good trash

1999 by Prince
Feb 03 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 8/10 Very funky, I enjoyed listening to this

Moon Safari by Air
Feb 04 2025

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 7/10 I remember last festival season these guys played the full album live at Lowlands. Although I was at the same festival, I missed their show because I really didnt want to miss the Viagra Boys. Due to this, today is actually the first time I have heard this album. I gotta say, I like it. However sometimes it becomes a bit too chill and sounds a bit like elevator/background music.

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Feb 05 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 5/10 It's good, nothing to write home about. I like the vocals, very raspy 90s voice.

Want One by Rufus Wainwright
Feb 06 2025

⭐⭐ 4/10 I don't think it's awful. Just ain't my kind of music.

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals
Feb 07 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 5/10 Couldn't decide between 2 or 3 stars, but giving them the benefit of the doubt as it has some interesting parts in the album. Such as: the almost grunty vocals in 'Respectable for the respectable' and the strange acid synths at the endof 'No sympathy'. Surprising elements like these kept me from turn off the albums and give it 2 stars. The band reminds me of idiot pilot and Ned's atomic dustbin. Which, just like super furry animals are pretty average rock bands but have interesting elements. The bands are in no way influential (therefore it is strange that it made the list) but at least the listener can act cool and snobby by knowing the band.

Feb 08 2025

⭐⭐⭐ 6/10 It's perplexing how songs which are almost 40 years old are still so recognizeable to the part that you can just sing along with it. Apart from the first 3 songs I didn't know this album. It's alright, but does get boring, 3 stars because of the hits.
