Relaxing jazz funk, not bad, but I feel like I wouldn't revisit it that much

May 10 2025

I haven't listened to this album since grad school. "Speakerboxxx" drags on forever and the songs are middling aside from "The Way You Move", while "The Love Below" is the superior of the two discs as a humorous homage to Parliament-Funkadelic. The 00s production values on "Speakerboxxx" also sound dated.

Transformer by Lou Reed
May 13 2025

The album that helped Lou Reed revive his career after a post-Velvet Underground slump, produced by David Bowie. Some of Reed's greatest songs ("Walk on the Wild Side", "Perfect Day", "Satellite of Love"), fun little background vocals by Bowie, the sleazy vibe of the New York demimonde, but hampered by a few trifling tracks ("New York Telephone Conversation").

The lo-fi aspect can be hit or miss. Some catchy songs, I forgot how many were about murder

I know some people enjoy this type of metal, but I don't get it, and it's hard for me to judge accurately

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
May 18 2025

It's like the goofy songs Ringo Starr performs on his solo albums, but people respect it because it's made by a mentally ill person. The musicality from the later groups this helped inspire is missing, so it doesn't work for me
