Couple of bangers, some stuff a bit dull
Enjoyable, dub / grunginess. Nothing spectacularly memorable.
General quite long. Enjoyed the first song but found it a bit self-indulgent and overly long
Not entirely my taste, but a decent album which feels fairly punchy with a few memorable songs
A quarter of the album is Papa was a rolling stones. The others are a bit samey, but mostly a good vibe.
Indulgent, of it's time but not awful.
Not sure i'd repeat listening to it
Occasionally threatens to be interesting.
The things they reference are nicer. Sort of soft folk(ish)
Feels like a jazz club in many ways. Not unpleasant but not my favourite. Great on me through out.
Put this off because I enjoyed Breakfast in America.
Enjoyed Bloody Well Right, Rudy and some others but a 3.5 on the lower half seems fair.
Noisy, abrasive. Lyrically somewhat catchy but not my favourite choice.
No favourites
Didn't realise the album had skipped...
Two good songs. Lots of less good songs.
How did this make the cut?
Funk, anger and power. Enjoyed a lot more than expected.
Shut em down the pick?
It took me multiple attempts to listen to this. The anticipation of listening to a band that have almost become a parody of themselves wasn't appealing. RHCP are a band for people who don't like exotic but like to think they do, and this album wasn't a great start at having to actually willingly listen to them.
The lyrics are remarkably shallow, I don't like Kiedis as a singer and it all feels a bit bland, like the sound track to a beach themed shop.
No favourites. Scar tissue marginally better than the rest.
Bonos voice is surprisingly annoying. Beautiful day still remains a good song (possibly because of memories rather than quality.)
The album is just a bit crap otherwise.
Listened on the record player after struggling to listen to it with my headphones. Didn't get it the first time but enjoyed it - first half better than the last but 1985 not awful
It's jazz so the bar is fairly low. But it swings along. I would struggle to tell you where things stop and start but I didn't dislike. A weak 4 but I enjoyed it.
Enjoyable but not super memorable
Quite sweet, slightly whiny songs. Neither bad nor good
It's probably good to some people. Without the screaming it's interesting. Tankians voice is interesting. I just done love it.
I have to listen to another hour and a half of this crap.
The first album didn't deserve to be here. Not sure why this is either. It's music for people who don't like music.
Got to suck my kiss and stopped. First album I failed to complete.
It's odd?
Feels like lots of half finished ideas thrown together but it's oddly hypnotic.
2h is a long time but Suicide isn't awful.
I enjoyed this more than expected. Misses the pros and cons, the interplay of the Beatles, but still good.
Morose from ol' Blue eyes.
Surprisingly mopey but somewhat lacking in self reflection. Intimate but shallow with a nice voice. Feels like Christmas even though it is not.
No picks, they're all very similar.
Surprisingly melancholic in places. Consistently making me question whether I actually don't mind Metal.
Pick : Orion
Soft country but not awful. Some good songs in there that are quite funny.
I got caught the best?
Slightly dirge-y. Uninspired but perfect for a job I hate.
Feels more rangy and less controlled, more absurd and less Beach Boys.
Nothing particularly memorable.
Enjoyed, latter end tails off slightly but still quite strong energy, if a bit raw.
Much better than latter stuff.
The best song on the album is a cover. It's fine, and I can get why people like it but it's not for me, and I'm not sure you really needed to listen to it as one of 1000.
The main word I can add is sonorous. The voice is incredible, and the musicality is also excellent, but the lyrics just don't quite make sense when wet against it. And then it develops. By the time it gets to Pyramids it's slightly doolally but engaging before becoming something you actually want to listen to.
Avoided this one for a long time. Hoped it would feel more than just vapid with a sense of musicality. Seems all that was scrubbed out in the slick production. Having never actively listened to the songs, they're all just so empty.
Some songs are very good pop songs. But lots of it feels empty, soulless and indicative of the problems with pop music.
That plus the fact she seems to be a cow don't make her endearing.
Enjoyable for prog rock. Still a bit expressive and languishing but better than a lot of other bits.
I'm not sure I would have put this in my top 1000 albums of all time. The first song is good and probably my pick. The rest is just a bit, unimportant?
Can see their influence in other music - it's kinda fun but a bit repetitive.
A solid, funky album. Enjoyed immensely.
Enjoyed the punky grunginess. Not a bad listen.
Another sweet album, albeit slightly whiny/nasally. Stripped back with sentiment. Quite enjoyed.
Angeles the favourite, but probably because I knew it before. Say Yes also enjoyable.
I feel like I've heard this before even though I've never heard of the artist or album. The songs are bland and forgetting and feel like the sort of dross you'd get if you blended all the early 90s bands into one.
Well, it's certainly something. Nu Metal is reliably shit and Kid Rock isn't that good at it.
No picks, just happy to have it over with
It's not that long but it feels like hours.
I feel very mixed. It's clearly influential and changed a lot of contemporary music, but does that make it good? It's undoubtedly very self indulgent and I find it a hard slog, rather than an enjoyable romp. The standout tracks are good and it is well produced, I just didn't enjoy it.
Bland and forgettable.
I don't love Rap. I dislike the current genre of mumble rap, trap and relevant nonsense.
Kendrick is somehow different. Musically a bit more interesting in a flow sense, lyrically questionable.
Enjoyed - maybe a weak 5 but a strong 4.
Enjoyed BDKMV, money trees
My kind of rap. Not overly aggressive, good flow and punchy funk. Enjoyed.
I am Somebody and What's Golden my picks
A mixed album, not a standout but not awful. A delicate balance between the experiments of the 70s and the fragility of the orchestra. A good way to see out an afternoon.
Nasal whine from the Smiths cover band, with a strong whiff of the Rolling Stones.
Except it's very listenable.
Supersonic / cigarettes and alcohol
A very meh album. Looking at the artists they've influenced, it's a sea of artists I'd rather not listen to. The album is fine, nothing super memorable with a few bits that stick but an overwhelming sense of monotonous shouting and the same chords.
The album starts strongly and then ambles slightly before finishing with a belter. Three of my favourite Dire Straits songs but the meandering, almost dub in the middle detracts slightly.
Favourite : Brothers in Arms
Not my favourite Neil Young album, but some interesting songs / compositions. Down by the River is a real NY song, some good warbling in his gravelly tones.
Album name is a bit on the nose. It isn't even ironic.
A dreadful mix of nonsense but I somehow managed the whole thing.
Not highly mentioned on the last 26 years, I wonder why?
It's fine. It's traditional music over electronica and I don't feel enlightenment from listening
Zombie eaters is such a dreadful song I'm not sure the album can recover from it. It's difficult to tell if it's satire or just genuinely awful.
Seemingly the birth of some absolute shit nu-metal.
My first thoughts:
How many cigarettes has he smoked for his voice to sound like that?
This is a brooding, dark, almost nocturnal album. Haunting in its very stripped down nature. Poetic in its sparseness and the literal reading of the lyrics over the music.
Thought I'd hate it, really enjoyed it
Skimmed the album list and didn't see anything super noticeable.
Very wrong. It's a good album.
Favourite: Barbarism begins at Home. The bass is excellent
Noisy, blustery and fast. Sweet child of mine sticks out compared to the pace of the other album bits.
Angry, mighty and a punky album for a Monday.
Welcome to the Jungle the pref.
The third Metallica album in less than 100 albums. Second song at 9 minutes is immediately off-putting. It feels more cliched and monotone than some of the others - falling into the thrash tropes. It's a shame. The introduction to One is a genuinely good bit of music that showcases their ability beyond just noise.
Thoroughly middle tier. Not bad, just not interesting (to me). A 3 overvalues but a 2 is too low.
Ethereal floating voice, lots of songs that I'm not sure about. The highs are high but it didn't land completely for me.
A nasal voice with punch and fervour. Some boppers and a 90s energy. Ironic snappy but it seems to overshadow the remainder
Picks : You Ought a Know / Ironic
Passed mostly unnoticed. Nothing stuck really
Enjoyable. Some songs a bit odd, but good colour and overall it feels fun and a good listen.
Favourites : I want to tell you, Eleanor Rigby, Yellow Submarine
Started badly, thought it was meandering art rock nonsense. Then For Dinner... Happened and I changed entirely. Stand out song, rest fine.
Passed mostly unnoticed. Nothing stuck really
Lennon is not a nice bloke. That is an established fact. He's also spectacularly hypocritical. But is he a good musician? Well, he's not as talented as he wishes he was, and the success of the Beatles is a reflection of the output being greater than the sum of its parts. Lennon alone lacks the warmth, compassion and realisation that he's whiny.
Imagine is a fine song, overplayed and then badly tarnished by COVID (not his fault but I'll still hold it against him). The others are a bit pathetic. How do you sleep particularly venomous.
Enjoyable, a decent momentum and it felt like it flowed. Interludes made it feel authentic.
Best : Walk the Line, Boy named Sue.
It's just fucking odd.
Makes me feel something (confused and bewildered) so it can't be a 1.
Some boppers and mostly quite good fun!
Poison Arrow, look of love the two pics
Similar age to the RHCP stuff and that feels so inane and bland. Much more enjoyable but very raw. Lyrics are playful
Picks : Something in the Way; Lithium; Come as you are
I just don't enjoy it.
Four attempts to listen to it and I always get distracted.
Fun - enjoyed the funk / Motown but it lacks a tightness.
Aggressive and industrial. Punchy, punky angst.
Nothing memorable or a pick, all just very shouty. And yet, not that bad. Probably unlikely to relisten, but I understand why people like NIN
British Folk music done well. Strong memories of my Dad and his love of the genre, but particularly of Fairport Convention.
It has a summer's day feel to it, and the intro track is a galloping jaunt through the fun.
I don't love Denny's voice, but it cuts against the music in a wavering fashion.
Come all Ye my favourite
Enjoyable, clear influence on lots of contemporary bands. A very strong cover of Hallelujah.
Interesting but a bit bland. Nothing really stood out for me.
American Girl quite bouncy but the rest lacklustre. Surprisingly unambitious.
His voice is so much brighter than it is on later albums. A sense of melancholy and being lost. The simple guitar and voice returns, with the songs having a strong blues influence. Not my favourite Young album, but it isn't bad.
Angry, angsty, noisy energy. Enjoyed the whole composition but nothing standout, beyond perhaps sabotage?
It's odd.
Lacking direction or conviction. None of it awful, just a bit jarring in terms of direction changes.
Nothing stands out when it's all different.
Less polished than Nevermind. Less fun as well - didn't enjoy it as much.
HSB my favourite off the album. Would relisten.
Dark dingy and brooding. Personal Jesus and enjoy the silence both excellent. Rest a bit overlooked in comparison
Nostalgia is carrying this one heavily for me. This is the sound of childhood holidays and long car journeys through France.
Weather with you, whilst slightly nonsensical is good fun and the janglyness means I'll always love it.
Fall at your feet, Four Seasons in One Day, Chocolate Cake all enjoyable but probably not worthy of the 4 I give them.
Very self congratulatory. Dull guitar solos and lots of yowling. Did not enjoy
I don't think I realised how many of the songs I recognised without realising they were the Stone Roses. Dangerous uninformed opinions aside, songs are good. The opener is a belter and its a strong album overall.
Enjoyed immensely. Picks : I wanna be adored, Waterfall, Fools Gold
Guitar work is amazing. Songs lack a little. Black Magic Woman and Oy Come Va are both excellent.
It's not bad, but it's fairly repetitive. No picks and a very solid 3/5.
It's an odd album. Some songs are fantastic and some completely missed the mark
A solid, weird 3/5
Enjoyed it. Not much to say but I liked it.
How do you separate the art from the artist?
Shame he went so badly down the rabbit hole. Perhaps be was always like that.
Opinions are irrelevant, it's getting a 1 even if the actual art is better.
A bit disappointing. Uncommitted and lackluster
It's very soothing and mellow. But beyond the opener, it's all a bit bland and formulaic.
I don't really know why it was such a hit, but it was everywhere briefly.
Picks : Don't know why
It's a bit strange but it's not worthy of 1 star
Good background muzak and an interesting vibe, but not much more.
