1001 Albums Summary

Floating and dreamy throughout, with a lush, hazy atmosphere that feels almost weightless. The vocals come through more as texture than lyrics, and the whole album feels like being immersed in sound. It reminded me of a mix between The Cranberries’ warmth and The Cure’s moodiness. “Heaven or Las Vegas” was the clear standout track for me. Beautiful and hypnotic, even if some of the other songs blur together on a first listen.

A bit messy and uneven overall, but “Gloomy Sunday” stood out for me, and “Love Hangover” is an excellent cover of an already classic track.

Found it hard to get going with the first track — blame my untrained jazz ears — but I started to enjoy it from “Bitches Brew.” I’d like to come back to it later to reassess whether I’m being too harsh. I was really grooving from “Spanish Key” onwards.

A pleasant listen, but not especially memorable for me. Bill Evans’ piano is beautiful throughout, and the bass work really stands out. Still, on several tracks I felt the absence of a vocalist, which made it harder for me to fully connect. Probably one to revisit when I’m more in the mood for intimate, conversational jazz.

“Look at Where We Are” and “Flute” stand out, but the rest didn’t hit as hard. Disc 2 of the Expanded Edition clicked more for me.

“Solsbury Hill” is a fantastic song, but the album overall feels a bit less substantial than the ones I’ve reviewed so far.

Great Rock & Roll album.

Fun glam rock album and very easy to jam and dance to. The use of multiple instruments, different sounds, and the vocalist’s falsetto really stand out. Really enjoyable, especially the first half of the album. Some songs reminded me of a rockier version of Culture Club.
