Never a big fan of Lover Her Madly but most of the rest of the album is pure Doors gold with the exception of Hyacinth House. Overall an 8 / 10.
Not their best effort. 2 or 3 worthy songs surrounded by a lot of meh effort. Seemed like a band just trying to put something out to pay the bills while waiting for past inspiration to strike them.
Usually love Radiohead but I can see now why this album slipped by me when it was released. Nothing truly noteworthy.
Given the genre and time period this is an excellent album. Even for those not typically appreciative of 60's woman solo music Dusty is extremely talented and the songs on this album hold up well over 50 years later.
This is a hidden gem that somehow I missed when it came out in 1989. I am definitely going to follow up with the rest of their collection to see if they continued creating such great alternative rock with sounds along the lines of Indigo Girls or The Charlatans or The Smiths. My first 5 star review.
A good album but always felt too pop oriented for my taste. 4 stars and still worth listening too but not all time great even for the pumpkins.
An overall good album though there seems to be some desire to be similar to early Bruce Springsteen. Worth a listen but not a classic in my opinion.
Wow, how this woman won a Grammy for R&B is beyond me. While I am sure there is a market for this toxic femininity I wouldn't want to listen to a man sing about how much he blames woman for his problems either. Beyond the ignorant lyrics is bland music ripped off of Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston albums of the 80s and 90s. This one can go straight in the trash along with any money people may have spent on it. Definitely could have lived my life without listening to this drivel. My first 1 star rating and very well deserved. :(
a joyful trek back to the 70s/80s hair metal bands like Tesla, Cinderella that is just a fun time where concerts were fun and didn't cost a months salary. :)
I also learned that Quiet Riot used this bands material to jump start their careers. I wasn't aware of Slade in my youth but if I had been they would've been in heavy rotation annoying my parents through my closed bedroom door without a doubt.
Listen and just enjoy. Don't expect philosophical revelations just rock enjoyment from the decades of decadence.
This is not worth the time if you are a true jazz fan. The music is relaxing and ok but there is nothing earth shaking about the compilations. Definitely not something I needed to listen to before I die. Much more impressive jazz musicians should have made this list.
This is a fascinating album that definitely belongs on this list. Even though synth and electro is not my regular cup of tea, the arrangements and sounds on this album show true genius and everyone should definitely expose themselves to Kraftwerk before they leave this earth. I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised and entertained. Almost an auditory acid trip.
You can never go wrong with a Hendrix Album on your auditory experiences to have before you die and this album does not disappoint on all expected levels. So while this is not the best Hendrix album nor the one I might select it still has much classic Hendrix work like if 6 was 9 and castles made of sand. As with many of the true geniuses you have to wonder did he die leaving everything he had (avoiding the old age tour for money racket) or would there have been so much more Hendrix for all to enjoy? Don't miss this one and listen to the entire collection if you are somehow not familiar with Mr. Jimi Hendrix.
While the arrangements are skillful and you can hear where other bands that came along later took their inspiration the lyrics of Deep Purple have always left me wanting more. I am a bit of an anti-live music person as well and find albums recoded live to be wanting. I would have preferred a studio album from Deep Purple to be on this list so given that I did drop the rating a bit.
Definitely a poor man's Wu Tang with less experienced rhythms. The lyrics are a bit on the childish side as well though it is a fun album. Is it a rap album I could have lived my life without hearing? Sure, so many others that should be ahead of this specific album.
I appreciate all types of music and while country is not at the top of the list this album is fantastic. The lyrics and mixed in mariachi style music are phenomenal. I know Dwight is not an OG country act and I have never listened to much of his music, I definitely will change that after this experience.
When I saw this album pop up it made my day. Truly one of the lost legends, a voice and writing talent ahead of his time. Sadly most of the songs on this album were not Otis originals but you can still enjoy is smooth vocals on some classic songs like Satisfaction, My Girl and Wonderful World.
I must say that as an Indie fan in the 90s I am surprised I have never heard of this band but after listening I am surprised that they have lasted as long as they have. If this is their best album I am not impressed. The music is quite simple and the lyrics a bit childish for a band that started in the late 70s and put this out in 1995. Not quite a 1 but barely a 2 in my estimation.
While some of their more popular songs show an immature quality the Beastie Boys Albums rarely disappoint and this one is a classic. While not the pure intelligent rhyming of a Public Enemy, Tupac or Ice Cube they have an energetic quality that makes music fun. This one is a 5 if ever there was one for fun white boy rap but in the history of music I couldn't justify a 5.
This album starts with a banger but unfortunately the lyrics do not keep up. Way too much repetitive speech but the music is quite good. Couldn't quite stretch it to a 4 but if we were allowed to score a 3.5 this would be that album.
I must admit that i am a Chili Peppers Hater from way back. I also had to admit to never having listened to this entire album. Under the Bridge and Breaking the Girl were just awful songs. But giving them a fair shake I have to admit that this is not the worst band nor the worst album ever. There are 4 or 5 truly original well done songs here (of course there are 17 songs on the album so a blind squirrel am I right?). That being said I cannot give them the 1 I was sure they richly deserved. I can't get them to a 3 either just because 5 out of 17 is not a 3 in my book. A high 2 is all I can fairly muster here. But good on you, you forced me to actually listen to an album I would have bet yesterday I would die without playing. :)
it's almost unfair to ask me to rate this album as Tom Petty is literally my favorite artist of all time. While if asked to pick one album to be on this list I would not pick this one it is still great to showcase this one because it was so non 70s and launched an incredible band to the world. Gone too soon. RIP King Petty. A 5 in music, a 5 for the world.
Not very impressed by what appears to be a very popular band. Very bland and monotonal.
classic 90s alternative and excellent reminder of where bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters and others got their inspiration. Definitely a great addition to this list.
auditory hell. sounds like a group of kindergartners playing around with a synthesizer. there are many many better techno, dance, electric musicians than this. Avoid at all costs.
A unique collection of songs ranging from pseudo raggae to rap to dance (specifically break dancing) to r&b. I have to admit I liked it more than I thought I might when the album's first song played. Definitely an album worthy of this list as something you should experience as an outside the box sound.
