Pavement
1/5
This was dreadful. Seems like the music industry was quite accessible at this point. 1*
3 likes
The Offspring
2/5
Come out to play and self esteem are particular highlights for me as they are more the vibe of offspring I prefer. The rest of the album is filled with the more thrashier side of punk which I'm less bothered about.

John Martyn
2/5
Didn't get much out of this some of the music was fine, he seemed drunk, some of the vocals were a bit mumbled/slurred in parts which was distracting. 2*

Jamiroquai
3/5
Some great tracks but too many weaker filler tracks for a 4*

Teenage Fanclub
4/5
I enjoyed that, a good album. 4*
Parliament
3/5
Some good funky tunes, but did lose me along journey in parts. The better songs make it 3*
Coldplay
3/5
Wouldn't normally throw on a Coldplay album, tend to find them boring after a couple of songs but this was more enjoyable than I expected, forgetting their big singles were on this album. They go a long way for making up for the more tedious songs but even those are well written.
Waylon Jennings
2/5
Picturing myself in an American bar with you all I could happily listen to this in the background of our ramble. I wouldn't choose to put it on but also wouldn't complain if somebody else had. Prefer the uptempo tunes with this genre not a fan of the slower Cash style. 2* but by no means bad.
The Stooges
1/5
Nope. As awful as I expected, never been a fan of Iggy and this did nothing to sway me. I was wrong I will be giving out a 1* on this list!
Black Flag
1/5
Punk is one of those genres that I've never got on with, this album did nothing to change that. The songs are short lived but unfortunately there's a lot of them and they all sound very similar. 1*
Supertramp
3/5
Enjoyed this, musicianship is really good they're obviously a talented bunch, it did lose me a little in parts so it's just shy of a 4* for me but a strong 3* for sure
Slayer
2/5
Not as awful as I expected but only enjoyed parts of it. Never a whole song either. It was ok, there's plenty worse out there. Enjoyed some of the riffage. 2*
David Holmes
2/5
Had some funky sections especially some of the bass lines which I enjoyed but largely bored me. The tracks do sound to me like they were made with films in mind. The odd track here and there were decent enough for that but not interesting enough as an album to listen to start to finish. 2*
Portishead
2/5
Found this boring, I appreciated some of the music throughout but they didn't really get developed much if at all. For what I'd say is fairly minimalist in its approach I'd need to connect more to the vocals but I didn't get much emotion from the singer albeit a seemingly good singer. 2* just not my thing I guess but not awful.
The Youngbloods
2/5
I enjoyed Smug and Don't let the rain bring you down but I lost interest in between. Tinny lead guitar sound was off putting in places too. I would've enjoyed darkness darkness more if the guitar was lower in the mix and not drowning out the vocals. Also some odd choice of vocal delay on that track. Not awful but as a whole it was just OK rather than good 2*
Slint
2/5
It was ok, didn't really get anything from this album, wasn't horrible to listen to though just forgettable.
Pulp
2/5
Not a Pulp fan but the music in parts saved this from being a 1*. Don't get on with his voice which doesn't help
The Replacements
2/5
Some parts I enjoyed but punk never seems to strike a chord with me though I found this a less agonising punk album to listen to as it seemed to lean towards rock in areas. It was ok 2*
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Enjoyed the music to this but couldn't get on with the vocals for a whole album. Was ok though, surprise surprise another 2*.
Soul II Soul
3/5
Enjoyed the beats and bass lines conjured up by this album of soul. There are some misses on here or less enjoyable at least so gets a solid 3* from me.
Bob Dylan
2/5
I was ready to give this 3* as I enjoyed the first handful of songs which I didn't expect but by the end of the album I'd had enough of his voice and the songs weren't different enough to keep my interest despite that. 2*
The Boo Radleys
2/5
It was ok, nothing really stood out to me and although there were parts that I enjoyed somewhat it was short lived for the majority of the album. 2*
Tina Turner
3/5
Strong start Tina, unfortunately as the album went on it fell a bit flat for me in places. The good songs on there do just about enough for me to give it 3*
2/5
2*
Miles Davis
2/5
Musicianship was good, clear talent throughout the album but even still a tough listen for me. Did not keep my interest at all really though I enjoyed parts of some songs.
Napalm Death
1/5
Erm... Worst album so far by a fair few acres 1*
AC/DC
4/5
Classic banger *4
Television
3/5
Was decent, didn't love all of it but liked enough of it to enjoy it on the whole. Reminded me of the strokes-era alternate/indie rock vibe from bands around at that time. 3*
Gang Starr
3/5
Enjoyed this, not listened to these two before though I've heard of Premier. Good 3*
Suzanne Vega
2/5
Not offensive but a bit too bland to have a significant opinion either way about it. Collectively summed up as 'meh'. 2*
Arctic Monkeys
2/5
It's ok, I was never really a big fan of this style at the time and it hasn't convinced me otherwise this time round. 2*
John Martyn
2/5
Didn't get much out of this some of the music was fine, he seemed drunk, some of the vocals were a bit mumbled/slurred in parts which was distracting. 2*
Alanis Morissette
3/5
3* good album but with a few misses.
Roxy Music
2/5
Didn't really get anything out of this, can see why they were a thing though. 2*
Sigur Rós
2/5
Never really took to sigur ros, I can appreciate its been written well but it bored me more than entertained me. Could be mood driven though too 2*
The White Stripes
4/5
Enjoyed this more than I remembered. 4*
The Gun Club
2/5
It was ok, was something different to listen to but nothing really grabbed me. 2*
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
1/5
It's a shame that this is 2 hours too long. I was mostly enjoying this, enough for 3* I'd say but it has to go down as a 1* overall for the sheer stamina required to get through from start to finish.
Public Enemy
4/5
Enjoyed this, I preferred the first half of the album but it's a strong album in this genre. 4*
Japan
2/5
It was ok, it fell flat in too many places for me to consider it any better than that. 2*
The Young Rascals
3/5
Unfortunately the whole album wasn't playable but I enjoyed what I heard for the most part. I'll presume the other songs were of a similar vein and standard so on the whole I think 3*
Depeche Mode
3/5
Enough enjoyable songs outweigh the less interesting. I'd be happy to listen to it again 3*
Sinead O'Connor
3/5
I was surprised that I actually enjoyed this up until nothing compares 2 u, after that there were songs that didn't fit on the same album and it fell flat. Enough on there to enjoy though 3*
Miles Davis
2/5
It gets a 2* for the talent. Not my cup of tea for an album to listen to.
Badly Drawn Boy
2/5
This bored me mostly but it was inoffensive.
The Byrds
2/5
Was ok, didn't grab me but a few decent tunes here and there.
Roxy Music
2/5
Gene Clark
2/5
There were some parts I found enjoyable enough but it was mostly 'meh'.
Depeche Mode
3/5
This teetered on a 2* for me but I think there was just about enough enjoyable on there plus personal jesus and enjoy the silence I really like to make it worth a listen. 3*
Louis Prima
3/5
Very much enjoyed this
Fugees
4/5
Strong album, would've been a 5* had it been cut down slightly to exclude some of the weaker tracks. 4*
Lou Reed
2/5
It was ok. Enjoyable musically in parts but I didn't get on with his voice. Obviously a couple of strong songs but they seemed a bit out of place to me with the rest of the album. 2*
Public Enemy
4/5
Had a great time nodding along to this
Orange Juice
3/5
3* quite enjoyable for the most part
Oasis
3/5
God but not great, a lot of filler songs
Frank Ocean
3/5
Silky smooth tones but parts felt hollow. Liked enough to give it 3* but it's in no danger of tempting me into a 4*
Motörhead
2/5
Never really been a fan of these. It was ok, samey samey though
Sisters Of Mercy
2/5
Enjoyed the start but my interest drifted in and out of this one too much. 2*
Joni Mitchell
2/5
Enjoyed from Blue onwards and she's a good singer but by the that time my mood was flat from the songs previous. As an album on the whole it's meh
Ray Charles
4/5
Really enjoyed this, definitely deserves the acclaim
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
These were ok but I didn't get a lot from them
Santana
2/5
Smooth guitarist with the occasional interesting song but largely did nothing for me
Ute Lemper
2/5
Bland is kind. 2*
Death In Vegas
2/5
Something different to listen to but didn't particularly entertain two star Terry. 2*
Michael Jackson
5/5
Wünderbar 5*
Jorge Ben Jor
3/5
Feel the rhythm, feel the ride, Jorge Ben Jor, it's samba time! Good enjoyable 3*
Stephen Stills
2/5
It was ok, I enjoyed some of the songs but largely had nothing significant to offer me
Funkadelic
2/5
Shame, there was pockets of delight in some of theses funk fests but they fell flat often. Cholly was a particular highlight. 2*
David Bowie
3/5
I mostly enjoyed this, I've discovered the closer Bowie gets to his "Fame" vibe the more I enjoy him. Big tune.
Grant Lee Buffalo
2/5
Pretty middle of the road for this genre wasn't bad but equally not interesting.
Neu!
2/5

Billy Joel
3/5
Enjoyed this more than I thought I would

808 State

Leonard Cohen
2/5
I just can't get past his voice. The music is well written but his voice bores me. 2*
Nina Simone
3/5
John Coltrane
2/5
Appreciate the talent but I'm not one for jazz instrumentals
Rod Stewart
3/5
Jamiroquai
3/5
Some great tracks but too many weaker filler tracks for a 4*
The Modern Lovers
2/5
Droney Droney, not my bag 2*
Country Joe & The Fish
2/5
Fairport Convention
2/5
Dexys Midnight Runners
2/5
The Smiths
2/5
First track was ok but after that I didn't get much out of it.
Pixies
2/5
Was ok but not my jam
Brian Eno
2/5
I love this stuff in film scores alongside its context but it has to be pretty good to grab me enough to interest me to listen to as an album and this wasn't it.
Air
3/5
Enjoyed this, it brought back a lot of 90s nostalgia.
Dire Straits
3/5
Solid album, definitely oreger the funkier vibes when they appear like southbound again.
The Offspring
2/5
Come out to play and self esteem are particular highlights for me as they are more the vibe of offspring I prefer. The rest of the album is filled with the more thrashier side of punk which I'm less bothered about.
Leftfield
3/5
Enjoyed most of this, gets a bit too long for me to listen to this style but I still enjoyed plenty of it
Johnny Cash
2/5
Never been a fan of Cash and this didn't sway me otherwise.
Talking Heads
2/5
Not a fan of these, in particular the vocals, music was ok though
The Who
3/5
Some good musicianship. Hit and miss with the songs but some strong ones in there to make up for the weaker ones. Pinball Wizard is a worldie. Album makes more sense as a soundtrack.
Pavement
1/5
This was dreadful. Seems like the music industry was quite accessible at this point. 1*
The Only Ones
2/5
This flirted with awful to ok. 2*
Bob Dylan
2/5
Not a fan of this Bob Dylan. Some of the bluesy tracks were OK not much else did anything for me. 2*
Pearl Jam
3/5
Mostly enjoyed this, even flow is a classic.

2/5
It was ok, I got bored with it though, again not my thing really.

The Undertones
2/5
It was ok, it didn't really grab me but there was some decent songs on there 2*
Stevie Wonder
3/5
Stevie is a smooth operator and a super talent. A good solid album but only a few great songs for me. 3*
Bert Jansch
2/5
I started off thinking this was ok but it didn't really keep my attention. Got a bit bored after a few songs.
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
A baller of an album, big hit of nostalgia for me as one of the first more edgier albums I listened to. Some misses on here means it doesn't quite make a 5* for me but the hits are so strong its close. 4*
Def Leppard
3/5
I enjoy the first half of this album more than the second. I imagine a road trip in America back in the 80s would've vibed on this album at some point. Solid album with plenty of cheesy big choruses 3*
The Louvin Brothers
2/5
I didn't mind this, was nothing to shout about but in the right environment I'd be happy enough to listen to it.
Talk Talk
2/5
I liked a lot of the music but didn't enjoy the vocals
a-ha
3/5
Decent, didn't love the whole album but liked enough I'd probably listen again. Plus, classic 80s vocals.
Hanoi Rocks
2/5
Spotify only gave me a few songs from this album to listen to? And what I did listen to, I wasn't a fan of.
Mekons
2/5
Had to source this elsewhere as for some reason Spotify didn't have any songs to play from it. I didn't enjoy the vocals, the songs on the whole didn't interest me either but some of them were okay.
The Everly Brothers
3/5
Didn't mind this album at all. Sucker for harmonies and this type of music usually has something going for it for me when done well which I think this is. Good album 3*
Stan Getz
3/5
Jazz instrumentals don't usually hold me interest but I enjoyed the samba vibe. Would enjoy this in a bar with drinks please.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
2/5
It was ok, had some interesting parts here and there but largely a bit all over the place for me. 2*
Rod Stewart
2/5
This never really grabbed me, some decent musicianship but very forgettable songs.
Wilco
2/5
This largely bored the nips off of my tits. 'I got you' was ok.
Pink Floyd
4/5
I enjoyed this, some great songs on here, I listened to the 2011 remastered version and it was not consistent enough for how long it was for me but the hits were big and the misses slight. Just kisses out on a 5 for me.
David Bowie
2/5
One or two songs interested me somewhat but outside of those I found it boring, this side of Bowie I'm not that fussed about.
Faith No More
3/5
James Taylor
2/5
Was pleasant enough just didn't much interesting from it. Lo and behold was a good track.
Robert Wyatt
2/5
Was something I would've never come across but I don't feel I'd have missed out either. 2*
The Lemonheads
2/5
Would probably fit in a 90s teen coming of age film but outside of that it didn't interest me much.
Sister Sledge
4/5
Solid soul/disco album, plenty of smash hits on this 4*
Chicago
2/5
A bit self indulgent in places, clearly good musicians but the album didn't do much for me.
Isaac Hayes
2/5

5/5
Absolute belter of an album

Very average for me.
Fela Kuti
3/5
Lots of groove to... groove to!

2/5
Didn't tickle my ear giblets
k.d. lang
2/5
Felt a bit indifferent to this, good singer, some enjoyable parts of music her and there but only enjoyed 2 songs significantly
Saint Etienne
3/5
Enjoyable bass lines and vibes. Nothing to shout about and had a few misses but enjoyable all the same
Nas
4/5
Enjoyed this, so much that I listened to it twice through without pain
