Yes
So gentle, no over singing in this one
Sound of New York
Yes
Debt to Public Enemy very evident. Bit more metal with funky moments particularly the bass, really tight drumming
No
Go a lot of swing. Another one with a debt to Public Enemy even has the of sample thrown in.
Sad that 30 years later many of the themes about segregation are still current
No
Thought this was a single LP version of Live Rust which I have but it's not. Some different songs.. Still same switch from acoustic to electric.
No
Can imagine this being played in an American bar in the mid west. Hints of ZZ top, Guns and Roses
Alright but not for me
Sharp, tight guitar, definitely hear Albini's hand at the controls
No
Some great dance stuff, gets a bit doodle-y in posts
Yes
Less angst than I expected
Comparisons with Kate Bush only v valid for a couple of tracks
No
Again, Public Enemy influence. Enjoyable metal
No
Really sounds very 70s, harmonising not unlike elo, keyboards
Not as good as Older but OK
I came to this with preconceptions and I did try but I found a bit slow and fiddly
Surprising how many of the "other" songs I recognised
It's a good album
Enjoyed this one. Songs I knew
Quite dreamy. Own it on vinyl
Bit jazz fiddly in parts and calm vocals
This is brilliant not just because everyone says so but because it truly is. The arrangements are like nothing you hear today. It's so evocative of it's time and the movie of course
Very much in the vain of de la soul, enjoyed
Struggle with Feargal Sharkey's voice but it's energetic punky
Lush - can hear how Amy was influenced
Good but a bit long. Rockier REM
Enjoyed it more than I expected, not being a Dylan fan
It's a bit Good Ol' Boys and I can hear how they have influenced so many after them
Lush
I'd never given this a property listen. Cinematic in parts.
Can see why it was a game changer
Jean genie bass line appears
Quality songs embedded in my mind, almost didn't need to listen
Very crisp production by today's standards. Refreshing
Not immediate but wanted to listen again when it got to the end
The first three singles are amazing; Drowners, metal mickey and animal nitrate. Slight off put by what I think was said at the time, Brett's "holidaying in other people's misery" lyrics
To the untrained ear this could be Bob Dylan with a bit of country added in. I enjoyed it.
I'm not a Coldplay basher but does get a bit dull in parts. The scientist is excellent
I know rhee singer's toxic but great swansong by the Smiths
Haven't always warmed to this album but on listening again, it's sharp Albini production
The good ones are really good, some of it may be filler
Quite jazzy, not what I was expecting
It is awesome even if they are embarrassed a little about it now
Rapping over ac/dc is genius
The songs, the arrangements the delivery are all amazing. It's totally understandable why this is considered a classic
Even as as non musician, the time signature changes are wild.
They could have been massive
I'm sure the words are good but I know it's my fault but I have a massive blind spot
Can hear their influence in loads
Smooth sample which I liked
classic even if over-familiarity may make the songs seem cheesy
So much drive in this album quite rocky in parts
Just wanders about a bit electronically and lets my mind do the same
Not immediate but worth the effort
Not just 5/5 because it's Elvis - it's so good. What must it have been like to hear this at the end of the 50s? It really rocks
Wouldn't normally be drawn to this sort of thing but it rocks...
Perhaps a bit too clever for its own good but still made me smile
Perhaps I overlooked this, in preference to Folklore, but these more gentle songs are real growers
A bit over orchestrated and showy for me but I bet it was amazing if you were there
Quite a jump from Diamond Dogs. Soulful, great arrangements especially for the backing vocals.
Now I know where Foxygen got some of their ideas
Know it's a critic's favourite but it's damn good
Wow, was not expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. Powerful and melodic
Can bad people make good music? Er yes
When this came out, it made realise what I'd been missing
One of the best lobe bands
Didn't realise some of the songs were theirs.
Sonically really good by the lyrics are brutal and not in a good way
Singles are good, rest a bit plodding
