Music in Exile
Songhoy BluesOddly catchy and enjoyable. I liked the album and would listen again.
Oddly catchy and enjoyable. I liked the album and would listen again.
Excellent all around. Quintessential Doors sound.
Almost every song was 5/5 and the album as a whole was both fun and great sources of nostalgia. I loved the pace of their rapping - it’s clever wordplay that I can understand.
Very bluesy and way better than expected. I was only mildly familiar with Janis Joplin’s most popular hits, so this was a pleasant surprise. I’ll add this to my rotation.
Almost every song was excellent. I don’t believe I’d ever heard the original album version of Free Bird and especially loved it.
It was solid but my jazz exposure is lite and therefore I’m not able to compare it well. I thought at the best it was very nostalgic feeling.
Wow? I appreciate the creativity and some of the tracks were very cool but overall this isn’t my cup of tea. It was thematically consistent and interesting but too jarring.
I thought that I was not a big country fan but it might be more that I’m not a big modern country fan. Ray Price was great and what I would think of as old school country.
I generally like Fleetwood Mac but this was a departure from what I thought if as their sound. I thought most of the album was ok but nothing standout. It was like a collection of solid background music not a killer album like Rumors.
I liked it and was pleasantly surprised. It was much mellower than I expected based on that I thought I knew. This also led me to research other house sound bands so it was a solid learning experience.
It was a solid album, good lyrics and strong songs. The standout to me was the guitar work.
I could only remember a couple songs by the Carpenters and they were both well done on this album. As I listened I realized how much of them I had heard over my life and they were really good. I would put this as a solid mellow album, great for easy listening or background music, but certainly not one to rock out to. Maybe not the best for a long boring car drive because it was so mellow, but that is also its strength. I’d listen again.
Just not my cup of tea. She has an excellent voice but the musical arrangements were not to my liking.
It’s ok but this genre isn’t my favorite. The Melodie’s were ok but not that great. I also felt the lyrics were difficult to follow. I’m bout sue what this album was on the list, sadly.
This really held up well. I recall how much I liked this at initial release and to me it sounded just as good, if not better, today. I liked the music and vocals.
I can not recall ever listening to a disco album in its entirety, so this was a first. I’ve heard this group referred to as disco and disco funk; in my opinoon this was more disco funk. In any case it was good but I felt it was repetitive. It didn’t wow me but it wasn’t bad either. I would add elements to my overall playlist but not a weekly rotation.
Wow that was a 90s band for sure. I thought it was good but not terribly distinguishable from other core 90s bands. I felt I was hearing a sound like Foo Fighters and Filter when I was listening to them. Solid and well done but not 5/5.
It was ok but I didn’t hear a standout song. I thought a lot of it blended together. It was musically good and could appreciate his skills but it didn’t grab me.
I generally like reggae and didn’t dislike this album. It wasn’t 5/5 for me and the songs weren’t always distinctive, but it was good. The beats and instruments were classic reggae and I really liked this. The lyrics weren’t as well performed but were still good.
I like this much better than the last Kate Bush selection, The Dreaming. This was was upbeat and has some great tunes. Her voice is always great but the over overall songs (lyrics, music, voice) were also great.
Weird but good. This was the kind of album I could sit and listen to again.
Always love the Stones and this was a double album too!
Really good album. I can’t believe she has such a vocal range at that age, but she was excellent. The music was really well crafted too. Just a great album.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard an album in this genre. I’m not even sure what genre this was but it was a good listen. I enjoyed the album and would listen again.
Cool punk sounds from l that era
I loved almost all these songs. In a lager way the sound they have reminds me of Wilco. I thought this was a great album and would listen again.
I’m a big fan of Pet Shop Boys so this one was really fun. A great album with a lot to choose from!
I knew a couple of songs but not the album. It was a good effort and I enjoyed the album. Excellent musical composition and great singing voice.
Not my favorite style but I appreciate the quality. If you’re into jazz I’d recommend this. It was beautifully done.
I hadn’t listen to samba in years, so this was an interesting change of pace. It wasn’t bad and I appreciate the quality I’d the vocals. It’s just not my typical music choice.
She has a beautiful voice on this album and the songs are interesting. I guess this is an example of top form folk singing but I didn’t enjoy it. It was not bad but it didn’t catch me.
I only casually knew Abba. Turns out I like them. This was a fun album and their vocals and music were great.
Quintessential Bad Company- a very good album that I’d listen to again
Generic country with repetitive music. I kept waiting for the sound that worked explain why this was a 1001 selection but I never heard it.
Amazing - one of my top albums of all time. Top 10 album for me!
I like this more than I thought. It was entertaining but not a must-play for me.
Oddly catchy and enjoyable. I liked the album and would listen again.
Excellent album full of classics
Catchy and fun. Good sounds and singing.
Very cool. I liked his work before but had never heard a full album.
Catchy but a little repetitive. Overall good and fun
It was good but I would probably not listen again. It’s just not a style I really dig
Hardest working man in show business wins again. Great album with lots of fun and energy
Who doesn’t love vintage Elvis (or really, any Elvis). His sound is upbeat and energy is always there. His vocals are excellent as expected.
An outstanding album that I loved since the first time I heard it. I had a college radio show years ago that was reggae/ska-based programming and components of this album were a backbone.
It was good but not great. I thought it was note their best album but it was a solid one.
Excellent vocals and good music. Some standout songs that I enjoyed in the 80s and again.
He’s really good as usual
This was just fun. It’s been years drive I listened to a funk album. This was a great one to listen too.
Excellent Depeche Mode.
Not bad but my taste
Oh wow, I thought I knew a bit about his music but this was just amazing.
Good stuff and like the singer. The music was catchy
I like them but this album want my favorite
Very Bob Dylan , but that’s not always the best since I am not the biggest fan
It was very mellow and reminded me a lot of Simon & Garfunkel
He’s a favorite of mine so this was an easy sell to me.
I liked this album. I was only mildly familiar with Blondie aside from the big hits. Listening to this was fun, probably would be better if it was at a party etc.
Who doesn’t love Elvis? I had never listened to one of his albums in its entirety, which is probably true for many of these artists, but I enjoyed this. I didn’t know this was the first rock and roll album ever to make it to the top of the charts.
While not typically my genre, this was very good.
Hendrix is always great to me.
I don’t know - it wasn’t an album I’d call favorite but there were songs that grabbed me. I thought I’d like it more but I think my idea of what this band’s sound was, was a bit off vs. the reality.
Good sound, solid album. I cannot recall hearing them before but I do like the album and would listen again.
On one hand it’s Frank Sinatra and that’s very cool. On the other it’s not exactly all Sinatra. I liked the mix and it was good but not 5/5
Always love Bob Marley and this was another excellent example of his work.
I’d describe it as an interesting folk album with a rich sound. It was good and I’d say more like 3.75 out of 5.
Awesome sound. I loved this album
I liked this one. I really like the collaboration on Stan. Overall very good and would listen again.
I’m not as fond of thrash metal as I am of hard rock or pst-thrash Metallica style metal, but Megadeath is solid. I like this and remember well when it came out commercially.
One of the definitive metal albums. I loved this and handed listened to the songs many times, and well again.
This was old school, break dancing cool. I really enjoyed the beats they were putting down. Very enjoyable and I say I was initially put off but the album cover.
It was good. I read up on the group and was intimidated - sounded a bit too experimental. After listening , I really like the beats/music more than I thought I would.
Technically excellent but it didn’t grab me. I generally like Yes and I respect the skill in this album, it just didn’t make me want to put this on my list to listen again.
Good beats, good tunes. I liked this more than I thought I would. I don’t think I’ll listen again but this wasn’t bad.
It has catchy songs, including a mix of heavier sounding ones. I liked it but I guess I’m not as into 80s alt Rick as I used to be because it was not a 4/5 or 5/5 album to me.
This one was wild. It was almost like some Bollywood film sounds but then a definite middle eastern sound. The blended into a pop or more modern sound. Very cool stuff.
So good - really fun album
Solid music and vocals, but too country for my tastes.
It’s sound was intriguing as she mixed some styles here. Her voice and lyrics are also very good. It’s not my favorite style but I still enjoyed it.
This one was both musically fun as well as an intriguing concept. I had to read a review on Wikipedia to understand the themes, which made the story clear. Very cool concept and well executed.
A people too experimental. They have a great sound and I wanted to like i the album, but it wasn’t my tastes.
A real classic and fun
Amazing album! I loved this when it was released
Amazing album!
This was superb. I’ve seen the DVD and heard the album. What an amazing concept. Well executed and wonderful song selection.
I didn’t think I’d like this but it was good. Very jazzy but better than I’d anticipated.
Really intriguing and cool use of dialog/recordings. Not my favorite but the music is good. Not sure if I would listen again, so only 3/5 stars.
Sorry was not that good to my ear. I wanted to like it but could not.
This is a great album. I heard it years back and really liked it.
