I went to high school (in the U.S.) with a guy who got deep into French pop music. Mylène Farmer was one of his main obsessions, the other being Alizée. But you know what? He was right about Mylène Farmer - this bops!
I like his debut album better, but this one's fun too.
I used to listen to this album a lot. The first four tracks are incredibly strong, and while I don't think the rest of the album quite hits the same highs, it's still a band at the peak of their powers. If only Jesse Lacey weren't a creep.
It's kind of a joke album, but I had a lot of fun listening to it. It's just packed full of jokes, and the mashups are based on bops, so it's a fun trip. It's the best version of Chocolate Rain that I've heard.
PATRICIA IS THE BEST STRIPPAH IN TOWN
Probably one of the worst bands to enjoy some level of success. I'm all for weird (love The Residents), but Cardiacs are so abrasive and jumbled and rather one-note in their sound and style. "Dirty Boy" is not bad and was my introduction to them. It was distinct enough to encourage me to look into them more. But then everything else of theirs just kind of runs together with their frenetic weirdness.
Reminds me of when I was at a corporate conference and Chainsmokers was on repeat.
I don't get it
I like Bob Mould, and he can craft a really good hook, but this album fell flat for me.

I was surprised by how fun this is
4.5 rounding up to 5 - great band, really cool album artwork across their albums.
Much too long. I was really enjoying "Offshoot," loved the appearance of the Pink Panther theme, and then it just kept going and going.

The drumming is pretty good
Really feeling the influence of Billie Eilish as I listen to this, the whisper-quiet sections, but contrasted here with bombast and a little more punk rock attitude. Pretty solid overall.
One song at a time is fine, but I can't do a whole album of Neutral Milk Hotel. I find they really start to grate on me. I walked out of Pitchfork 2014 as they were playing.
And I thought Jeff Buckley wanted to be Robert Plant
I was ready to write this off, but there are some bangers on here displaying a diversity of sounds and style. "Long Nights of Summer" is a highlight for me.
RIP to a trailblazer. Would have loved to have seen what else you could have created.

There are some strong songs here, but I think a lot of the production and overall sound seem rather tacky and dated now.

Not bad at all, but so minimal and ethereal so as to almost disappear.
I've enjoyed a later album of theirs, but I knew this was going to be rough when they opened with just yelling "shit" twice.

30 Seconds to Uranus Pretty generic and grating. Recommend Sleep Token over this any day.
Love the message, hate the "music"
Wow, this is super fun. Really loved hearing Bulldog's Entrance from Looney Tunes sampled in Bus to Beelzebub.
Sounds like a bargain bin Live to me with a splash of REM thrown in.
Initially, I was going to rate this a 2. I think the vocals can be fairly grating, however, I noticed more interesting songs/song elements as the album played on. No Rm. 9 Kentucky is a pretty cool track. Chakka's not bad either. It's clear that they were experimenting and trying to push their sound. I'll certainly take something imperfect and interesting or unique versus a sound that's bland and inoffensive. I think I was expecting something more like Stone Temple Pilots or Toadies but I had to recalibrate for a sound more like Faith No More's.
