Boston by Boston
Dec 06 2022

This is still one of the catchiest rock albums ever. I remember discovering this one on my own around 1989 long after it was big but when heavy metal was at its height. This has all the guitars but with more melodies and harmonies. Just a great listen. A home run. Still 5 stars!

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Dec 07 2022

This album is an absolute masterpiece. Every song is like nothing I've ever heard before, yet undeniably beautiful. It's as if Mitchell used music to provide a glimpse into her psyche in real time. For anyone who has ever had or loved someone who suffers from social anxiety, the lyrics will take on a meaning that is therapeutic. Just an amazing album.

Beautiful Freak by Eels
Dec 08 2022

Incredible album. I had heard novocaine in the 90s and liked it, but never bought the album. I wish I had. The whole thing comes together in thoughtful and unusual ways. Great songs and song variety.

The Real Thing by Faith No More
Dec 09 2022

I had forgotten how good this album is. I loved this album when it came out in 1989. I played it to death back then and saw the band open for GnR and Metallica. It definitely requires one to like rock/metal, but if you do, it holds up over time.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Dec 12 2022

Still amazing after all these years, especially side 2. Listened to this every night to go to sleep in the fraternity house my sophomore year 1990-1991.

Dec 13 2022

Some moments of brilliance and then a few songs that may grow on me over time, but that don't seem at the moment to be at the same level of heights as the others. Overall, a good album, and one I had not listened to before.

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
Dec 15 2022

Better than I expected with a few excellent songs, but still not my cup of tea. I think it's the way that Newman enunciates. Just bothers me.

Fever To Tell by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Dec 16 2022

Still an awesome album. Forgot how much I love this one.

Elephant Mountain by The Youngbloods
Dec 19 2022

Had never heard this one before, but it grew on me a lot. Very eclectic, drawing on a lot of different genres for a single album.

The Man Who by Travis
Dec 21 2022

Fantastic. Need to listen to this more, but it sounds a bit like a slightly folkier version of Radiohead.

Pyromania by Def Leppard
Dec 23 2022

This album is as catchy as I remember when listening to it on the juke box seeming every day of 8th grade lunch.

Dec 30 2022

I listened to a lot of Genesis in junior high/early high school. I favored the Phil Collins stuff at the time. This album was Peter Gabriel, although he sounded just like Phil Collins. It is more progressive/experimental than the Phil Collins years. It's good, but there's not a lot of ear worms here to stay with you. Still, a good listen.

My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello
Jan 03 2023

Enjoyable, but overhyped.

All Directions by The Temptations
Jan 04 2023

So many classics on one album, and I never knew The Temptations sang several of these. Definitely worth listening to, but I doubt I'll be dusting this one off to play frequently. These have become songs for movie soundtracks, but as an album, it just feels so dated.

Low-Life by New Order

A few classics - not the greatest voice

Great ambience music. Didn’t like it at first but it gre on me.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Jan 25 2023

Fantastic album - found a new fave: Flowers Never Bend with the Rainfall. What a chorus, almost other-worldly.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 01 2023

Classic. Every single song stands alone, yet comes together to form a perfect album.

Feb 02 2023

Fantastic. Never heard Buck Owens before, but this is some fun country. Feels like retro-Dwight Yoakem.

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Feb 03 2023

Excellent album! Paint it Black is obviously timeless, but so is Under My Thumb and others. Still great.

This album feels like a combination of Radiohead, the Pretenders, a splash of Fiona Apple/Karen O/Amy Winehouse. In general, solid, but somewhat forgettable. Will I ever return to this one? I kind of doubt it.

The Undertones by The Undertones

Several catchy songs, but nothing to suggest that this is one of the 1001 best albums of all time.

American Idiot by Green Day
Apr 03 2023

Still amazing, almost 20 years later.

Apr 24 2023

One of the best albums of all time! Still!

Black Metal by Venom
Jun 08 2023

Seriously? This guy's voice is terrible and the songs are so basic. Devil rock? So cliche. I grew up listening to heavy metal. This is weak by most any standard. Worse, it keeps people from giving metal a chance. Maybe this album is on the list because it is early in the development of the genre? If not, I'm not sure why it's among the others.

Snivilisation by Orbital
Jun 22 2023

I wasn't that impressed the first few listens, but this one grew on me the more I listened to it.
