The only thing I like about the amount of times ska has been revived is that it has died so many times as well
I understand Stevie wonder now
Defs one for Amelia but I didn't hate it
There's a reason it's a classic
Pretty samey, I don't think it's aged well
Generic brit rock
Jarring and discordant, which I'm sure is the point but it did not gel with me. Vocals were a bit of a sour point as well
A great jazz/swing album that you can still feel those country/western elements in, seems like a perfect example of genre fusion
Has the potential to be really good in a lot of spots but just misses the mark in most places
Technically great album, I think a little bit of it might not have aged very well but not enough to pull the album down, I can see how this is sort of a proto-califorication but it stands on its own well
Pretty uneventful and forgetable, there were a couple of points where songs were going at 6/4 which added a bit of difference but they were pretty much just flashes in a sea of dull.
Well produced and we'll rapped, features used sparingly but we'll, I found a lot of inspiration that other modern rappers have taken directly from this album, tough between a 4 and a 5
Front to back this blew me away, very proggy mixes of King Crimson Rush Beatles etc, I'm on my fourth listen in the past 24 hours already
Look, I'm just not a country fan, this just ain't for me. There wasn't anything inherently bad about it, in fact there were a couple seconds in the first song that caught me a bit, but overall it's just a country album.
Slow and calm, I don't think it's quite the level of forgettable but it comes close, slow and chill, was able to get through it though
I forget how much of this album is straight bangers sometimes
This was the album that made me fall in love with Rush
Inoffensive, but not terrible. I feel like this would have been revolutionary at the time but as wth everything revolutionary it gets copied to genericism
Look, I'm just not a nu-metal fan and this is a good example of it, one decent song in The Warmth but that's it in a sea of Meh
One good song here, and somehow there was actually one or two bad ones in there as well. One of the lesser of led zeppelins discography but the fact that I still think it's a 3 is a testament to their skill in my opinion
Was not expecting to like this as much as I did, some real synthy goodness in there and some fun experimental stuff throughout the whole album. Well put together, enjoyable from start to finish
Pretty soulful early rnb well made, some of the lyrics felt generic and sappy but overall it's really well produced and performed
Lives up to the name, enjoyable but not really anything I'll go back to
This thing was wild, went many different ways and all was done very competently. Just wish things were a little more coherently put together, otherwise an album I can see myself going back to
The only thing I like about the amount of times ska has been revived is that it has died so many times as well
Seemed quite wannabe Beatles, otherwise generic brit rock
Relatively good but never really captured me like I was hoping
Pretty good y'know. Groovy and dancy, not much else to add here
Really solid album after to finish, the classics are classics and the lesser known songs are great as well. Only thing stopping this from being a 5 star is Jamaica Jerk-Off, like what the hell were they thinking with that song it's terrible!
Good album with the misfortune of being on our list directly after Elton John's Magnum opus. Still a good album but only really the one banger in tiny dancer
I saw the reviews saying this was too proggy and I thought that would be a good thing, god this thing is unpenetrable! I'm sure it can grow on you in time but I don't think I have the perseverance to try
Outside of the classics the rest of the album feels a bit lackluster tbh
I listened to the extended edition so not sure how much that changes, first half was quite samey throughout, but the second half threw some fun curveballs. Unfortunately the first half does let it down a bit much imo. Also, it just doesn't feel right belting out a Christmas song in April...
Much more enjoyable than I expected, full of flavour and well produced, this isn't usually the sort of thing I would listen to but it definitely hit the spot for me
Oddly really enjoyed this, was not expecting to but this was a great listen! Surprisingly full and fun
This thing has some wild changeups and goes a bit everywhere, but not in a way that makes any sense. I kind of hope that they have a better album out there because I like a lot of the sounds they have here but it just feels disjointed to all hell.
Uneventful and kinda forgettable, nothing that really caught me
It's a classic, but not really one of their best. Enjoyable at the very least
I was hopeful for this album but it was quite dull and interspersed with points of monotonous repetitions that went on way too long
Quite enjoyable, though the start of the album had me thinking it was gunna be even better, still happy with this one
Really good romp, there's a reason Jimi is regarded so highly and this is a great showing of it. You can feel licks of flavour that in time have been extrapolated out into their own genres throughout the album. Voodoo Chile and of course All Along The Watchtower are absolute bangers in a sea of bangers
Look it's alright, gin and juice is about all I can say is super good here but that's possibly down to recognition more than anything
Background music at best really
Bad, boring, blegh
Weird and wild, bus coherent still, impressive
Country is just not it for me, and this is as country as country can get
Surprisingly enjoyable, great flow and great backing
The bangers were still bangers, the rest was alright, production was high quality as should be expected
It felt too much like one of those bands that you heard in backing music to early 2000's coming of age comedy films with a tiny bit more bass, wasn't really into it
The first song or two I felt like this would be an album I would really enjoy, but every son from there on our was pretty much the same. I understand this would have been some wild music at the time but it just stuck to the same few progressions the whole way through
Really good album top to bottom, the bangers are absolutely bangers, and I still found myself grooving along to the less known songs. Not sure what the Paul McCartney bit was all about though...
The lyrics grated over an already boring beat though out the whole album really was not a fan of this one
I understand why dad loves this band, this album is loooong (which may be to it's detriment) but it's still filled with some absolute belters! Back in the USSR is a great start, Glass Onion, Ob-La-Di, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Blackbird, Yer Blues, Everybody's got something to hide except me and my monkey, Helter Skelter(!!!), God this is good. Also I get the 'number 8' Simpsons joke much more now, but wiersly I really liked Revolution 9 still. Huge album with a huge reputation that it definitely deserves
Groovy and very toe-tappable, I found my head bobbing the whole way through this one
Jesus Christ this was grating. No flow, off key, pretentions crap, never want to hear Bjork again in my life
Look again it's country and I just cannot deal with most country, but I have to admit there were a couple of not terrible tracks there...
There are reasons it's a classic, bops all the way through. Acdc hasn't really evern been my cup of tea but this is defs the best of them
Quite samey and flat for me, I've never really been a fan of this era of pop so this kinda misses the mark for me, still had some toe tapping but not much else to cling on to
Easiest 5 of my life! There's something very special about this album that makes.me go back to it again and again, one of my absolute favourites I especially like it when he says 'Mandolin!'
Groovy and funky, though the only think stopping this from being a 5 star album is length, both of the songs and the albums, I think if alot of the songs were a little bit shorter, and therefore the album was shorter, this would be an easy 5, but as is it drags a tiny bit
One of the best, seeing these guys live was a treat! The fact that this is such a revenge album to eachother makes it even sweeter - there is no way this album should even exist!
This Bjork album is better that the previous Bjork album, sure. Still a Bjork album though...
This felt extremely flat and one dimensional to me. I'm sure the lyrics may mean something but the rhythm is lacking hard
Pretty alright but still forgettable overall
Definitely couldn't be made nowadays, I love the juxtaposition between 'I hate bitches' and using the f slur, and saying 'im not a racist or a sexist'. Also this made me remember that the etc was bombed well before 9/11, good luck getting that on an album cover nowadays
A very very good album, the ones I remembered have aged very well still, and the ones I don't remember are still bangers with wild hints of different bands from the past/different styles
Very good varied album, was surprised to hear songs that I recognized. Strays a little close to being brit rock but keeps itself unique enough to enjoy without thinking of Brit Rock all the time
It's nu metal, of which I am not a fan from the getgo. In fact this is the exact thing I think of when I think of nu metal as well. Lyrics make it even worse, using some slurs in a very slurry way. There is one song that I thought was okay but otherwise a big miss from me
This is a really easy listen, with the absolute belter of the titular song to start, and alot of good music from there on out
This is painful to get through, well off key and off beat the whole way through, and sometimes I can see the artistic intent with that sort of thing (like I could even see it with Bjork) but ilthere didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it here. There were a couple of bright spots which rescued this album from a one but the inconsistency really kills this one
It's alright I think, doesn't blow the doors off but there isn't really anything offensive there either. Also has a very samey sound throughout the album which I guess comes with the early synth territory
Really bland and forgettable, like the last album but worse. Still a 3 though
I was expecting this review to have a lot of 'for it's time' justifications but no, most of this album still stands up today. A great mix of peppy jaunts and slow melodies here
Well crafted all in all, and there were some really great hooks in there, but overall the album didn't capture me as much as I was expecting (though I had expected exceptionally great things from it from ratings I've seen out there). Trying to discount my expectations for this album I think this is deserving of a 4, but it wasn't quite as transcendental as I was lead to believe it to be
Boppy but again kind of eh, I can understand others liking this but to be it's very much take it or leave it
This has some really amazing songs here (elegia is so so good) completely surrounded by meh
Pretty good but I think it skirts on the side of forgettable. No major standouts here which may be the thing that pulls it back. For such a heavy album it's somehow so light at the same time and I don't get it
The first half of this album goes suuuuuper hard and I love it, second half peters off a bit though, had my head bopping all the way through with the mild jungle beats at points
Some absolute bangers here, even the less good songs are good
Absolute slapper of an album, hever beat is this massive drop and pump back up, super energetic and angry, and it's for very good reasoning
This is I think is on thegood side of eh, not what I was expecting at all and very all over the place but I think overall it's missing something
Weird and wild, but still somehow quite samey the whole way through. A great album of early rap, its just early rap that doesn't quite click with me.
Makes me hungry for Mexican food but that's about as far as it goes, also this one song with the piano just sounds terrible
Some really nice slow jam stuff here, don't let me down is an absolute classic for sure. I'll call this a high 3
Early techo's early techno. Very industrial and sparse which I liked, with quite a unique sound. It is let down by how repetitive it is though
Was hoping for more from this, but it is very samey for the most part. The speeding up piano sample they use is some creepy fun though
Fun and groovy, le freak is great, the rest was still fun but not quite to the level of memorable.
I think I've come to the conclusion that j don't like his voice. Some very fun sounds here but yeah the voice was definitely getting to me a bit
Pretty good, but the story behind the album and the group getting paid for it is much cooler imo
I've kind of already forgotten it, but the guitar work worked well
Classic fitty. The production was all over the place but I think overall the feel of the album was excellet
Banger banger banger album, this is *the* rap album, incredibly complex and meaningful, with huge variation throughout. This is Kendricks Magnum opus in a discography already filled with all time great albums
Has bits where this album really shines, but then there's also some really generic stuff in there too. The album itself is cohesive, it's just the level of creativity that is a bit whack imo
This was a fun listen but overall it was missing that little bit of oomph to get it higher in my books. It is a four but probably only just
Stunning album, all the problems I had with the previous bob Dylan album were definitely not here for this one, extremely coherent, well produced, well performed!
Could have been a 5 if the mixing was done right, this was a frustrating album to listen to
Its country.
quite good, a bit of variation over the album which was nice. I feel like the last few songs kind of repeated themselves a bit much for my liking though. overall pretty good.
this is a genuine blues album that hits all the right spots I think. it has some nice slow jams in there with some real high energy stuff without losing the blue feel. 'Got My Mojo Working pt 2' really sealed the deal with this one i think.
her voice is ephemeral, not gunna lie. some really great soul music here.
alot of this felt very poor mans beatles. very psych-pop heavy. i like changes adn of course time of the seasons, but otherwise its an okay album
i think this juuuuuust misses out on a 5 just on the second half falling off a bit. the first half of the album hits really good though, specifically Novocaine for the Soul to Not Ready Yet. Extra love to Susans house with its changeup midway through.
i think the liveness of this album gives it a nice garage vibe to some already well established music, I can see some inspiration that king gizzard has taken from here for more than a couple of their songs/a;bums, thats for sure,
what a stunning album. I went in to this thinking the titular album would be the one good song and that would be it, BOY was I wrong! this really shows Paul McCartneys chops off in a big way. Let me roll it is such an energetic yet slow rolling song, Mamunia bringing in some synth in the background was amazing. The changeups of Picassos Last Words and the crescendo of Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five all to circle back to Band on the Run, front to back a stunning album and ill be sure to look out for it at the record store from now on.
very boring and one-note, this is the exact sound that i expect of the early beatles, and it's not a good one. The band definitely benefited from more drugs.
much more enjoyable than I was expecting, i was expecting some 80's disco-pop but there was still a great chunk of rock in there. There were a few songs that sounded kind of samey but overall a good listen.
i was excited when i first started listening, but then i realised the first couple of songs were just covers and from therei got less and less interested, to the point where the last couple of songs grated.
something i can see myself going back to, but for sure this is best in the background i think. good but not amazing.
decent album, nazi feature aside. a nice slow jam rap album that sticks around just as long as you would want it to.
the hits carry this album, the filler is not great at all and honestly very disappointing considering what I expect from Queen most of the time.
this is one of those albums that seems like it would be revolutionary for the time but time hasn't been too kind to it. I think looking at the date of release and knowing that this was at the forefront of this type of punk elevates it, but probably not something i would return to.
she's Dusty for sure. though this is country and I don't think I need to restate how I feel about country, this is alright in my books. very samey of course but not at all grating like alot of country is to me.
this one was a full bucket of eh, felt like it never really got anywhere with me
of all the old school rap ive come across so far, this has been the better of it all. still room for improvement as seen by the changes in rap over time, but this is still servicable
again pretty good but nothing too groundbreaking in my opinion. It feels like good background music to me. from what I was paying attention to it does seem like this album has some real meaning behind it at least
a nice little jaunt through the wild side, even if a couple bits did feel a bit safe. overall a very good album that is extremely well produced, i would go back to this one.
i really REALLY like this one, alot of smooth sounds surrounded by fun discordant music. Two Weeks, Dory, and I Live with You were the standouts for me, but the whole album is amde of great songs here.
This. Album. Is. LOOOOOONG. I cant deny there are some absolute belters of songs in this thing, but the length of this thing is just too much. I could only go back to some songs, never the whole album
the first half was pretty standard beatles-esque stuff, but i think the second half of this album is where it shines with some great hard blues rock in there, the album itself is a bit long but the second half is very easy listening
its long, its jazz but its nothing too entrancing, the liveness of it all is fun but i think it leans too far into it really. I can appreciate the art, but its not for me.
pretty decent, Laura has a nice swing tone to her vocals and its used really well at the start of the album, other than the rest of the album hasn't quite stuck for me
this is very mid 2000's video game to me somehow. really good music to put in the background while working, i like it.
absolutely rate this album, I was already sold on it but The Cinema Show really sealed the deal for me. FIrst two songs really stood out to me as well, along wiht the Battle of Epping Forest. Super solid recommendation
THis is a really solid classic rock/blues album imo, and one that i can see myself going back to again in future. the run time is nice and tight, and i dont think theres any songs here that really act as fillers.
i mean its alright? i feel like a few songs havent held up but the more recognisable songs here are still decent.
this give me early 2000's skate game i think? nice semi ambient sounds to it but didnt really tickle me at any point...
this album has some real peaks and troughs of quality in my opinion, in some songs there is some real top notch production, but theres also a few songs that are just repetitive and honestly very boring. hard to put a rating on this because it is a bit all over the place.
wish it was only seventeen seconds long. this is an album where every song feels like it should be builiding to a crescendo that never happens. its good that its short because it's quite frustrating at the same time...
