I can see why Janis Joplin became such a popular artist and went solo. Such a powerful voice. The band overall was good, but they do sound like so many other bands of the era. Janis steals the show though.
This album feels really dated. Never been a Beastie Boys fan and I'm still not. But I can appreciate it's place in music for what it is and was during the era.
Bands that would have never existed without Black Sabbath. It's got it's place in time, but it's not a timeless album. I can hear how this album is well placed between Black Sabbath and the underground LA metal scene of the 80s that brought out the Big 4 of the era.
Most all the songs sounded the same. I will say that Willie is a pretty good story teller though. I can see why he holds a special place in the 20th century musical lore.
Classic album.
I really didn't care for this album at all. Her voice was often off key and the instrumentation was annoying. So far, my least favorite album.
I can hear how it may have influenced other musicians and how existed between rock and pop of the era. Sounds a decade or so ahead of it's time. Really has a more prog pop rock feel to it.
One of the best albums of all time.
I've heard a number of these songs over the years and had no idea they were all from the same album. Pretty good debut album. If I would have guessed, I would have said it was from the 80's. That was a trailblazing album I guess.
Really dated. Didn't care for a single song on the album.
Great album. Brings back lots of memories.
Good album. Lots of classics.
Get It On is definitely the highlight of the album. Okay bluish feel to the rest of the songs. I can understand why it was popular in its day.
Not good.
Some interesting stuff on there.
I tried. This album is awful. Like zero stars awful.
Pretty solid album. Some good songs on there.
This album is terrible, only worse.
Elevator music
Short album, but had some good tunes on it.
Meh. 80s music at its core.
Some good beats on there. He's got flow.
Some bangers on there.
IMO one of the 25 best albums of all time.
Alright, but really short.
Love this album.
Not my thing
Weird
This is like early prog rock. Very weird and not very interesting.
Pretty good live album. The drum solo was epic. Really cool twist on jazz.
I appreciate it for what it is, but not my thing.
I can hear it's influence on the era, but it's a horrible mixing job and often feels confused and a little lost.
Early gangster rap is pretty funny. Ice T spells a lot of words out to make rhymes, like "The I, the C, the E, the T," or "M-I-C." And apparently everyone was trying to kill him.
Thelonious was definitely one of the greatest.
Good album.
Trash
It was alright. I wasn't alive when it came out, so I don't know if it was a new sound at the time, but it's very similar to many other bands.
This isn't anything unique. It's rather like a dull version of Tom Petty.
A kind of worse version of Depeche Mode.
Interesting title, but I can see why they didn't catch on in America.
Not as good as I remember, and definitely not their best album.
Well, this is some, "What in the holy indie band crap is this?"
Beautiful voice. Very Ella Fitzgerald style vibes.
One of the greatest first albums from one of the greatest bands ever.
Interesting, dated, country'ish stuff
Meh
Weird album. Never understood the popularity of the Flaming Lips
Classic motow
It's hard say it's a great album, but it's good. Or rather, maybe it more nostalgia than makes it good.
There are a few good songs, but this album is just okay.
Didn't know I have heard a few of these songs. Some are catchy, but a little more pop'ish than I generally listen to.
It's like... Noise.
That's a very 80's album.
It's for sure a classic album, one that will be enjoyed for a long time by many people. As for my personal tastes, I never understood why he was such a an icon. His music is alright and his singing is unique and impressive, but it's not something I go out of my way to listen to or even choose to.
Interesting sounds. Some dynamic, inventive tunes given the era it was produced. I just wish I knew what they were singng about.
A few good songs surrounded by weirdness
Good album, but it's strange that the sound wasn't as inventive or distinct as the last Beatles phase.
Never listened to a full Elvis album. I can understand his popularity a lot better. Dude had chops.
Easily one of the worst albums I've ever heard.
It's an album that is too late to be unique. Just sounds like your run of the mill early 60s album.
Beyond the two popular songs which had a different sound and feel to them, the rest of the album was meh.
Alright.
Dudea got soul!
Good album. They really improved their style and sound over the years. May not have the same catchiness and earlier release, but lots of technical improvements
Classic rap album.
Music that would played at Guantanamo Bay.
Otis Redding... The king of writing songs that people don't realize he wrote.
Some interesting songs that clearly draw playfully on other genres.
I still have yet to understand The Who's popularity, especially with this album. I don't get it.
Better than the other clash album I listened to, but after a few songs, it was hard to tell them apart. A lot of similar sounding songs.
Super short album. All the songs were short, like it was inspired by the 50s, which a lot of sound seemed to pull from. Reminded me of Eddie and the Cruisers soundtrack...
Kinda boring. It's like edgy dentist office music.
Confused. Country or 80s soft rock.
African inspired Starbucks music for white people. However, it's unique in its own right. 3 stars.
This album is laughably bad.
REM is the ultimate indie/college band. Very experimental within their own style. Green isn't their best album, but it's still got some bangers.
Amazing album. A rare album where ever song is great and gets stuck in you head all day. Ripple is one of the greatest tunes ever written.
17 mins isn't what I would call an album, but hell of a piano player.
Lots of Danzig in there. It's a lot better than most all the 80s hair metal crap, but just meh overall.
I feel like I've heard this same album before, but it's like a crap version of Depeche Mode.
It's like all the songs have the same underlying beat or rhythm. The songs just blended together.
It's nostalgic elevator music.
I think I fell asleep out of boredom
Nope
Never full understood the White Stripes/Jack White thing. He's just alright.
This is like someone took 8-bit computer game music and tried to make something serious. It's terrible..
Meh
Not a bad album. Not quite Ziggy Stardust, but a good listen regardless.
