Soul Mining
The TheBrings me back to college - such the "college rock" sound of the late 1980s...
Brings me back to college - such the "college rock" sound of the late 1980s...
Tired of 1960s Kinks sounding bands right now.
Classic. Brilliant Harmonies.
Experimental jazz. They say it's genius. Not sure about that, but it was great to listen to.
Never listened to Joan before. Really enjoyed - folk, roots, a bit of rock. Definitely see how she's influenced many current musicians!
A little whiny, but certainly an influential album by the Smiths
It just didn't hit me. Listened on a Sunday, and wasn't my vibe.
The Queen of Soul. How could it rate anything less than 5 *****?
Never realized the heavy blues background of Sabbath. Would never have thought this, but Sabbath, Led Zepplin and early Fleetwood Mac (even on the outside, Chigago Transit Authority) all had that raw, heavy blues machine going!
Just. Not. For. Me.
Surprised to say the least. Sure, we all know "School's out". But who knew they "sampled" West Side Story? And there were moments that were very jazzy on this record. Really surprising and entertaining.
Ran up that hill.... but the last 4 tracks are just so out there, couldn't enjoy.
I may have heard of Prodigy before, but never listened to them. Avant-garde... odd... not sure how to describe it. Moody, electric. I liked it in a way.
Not my thing. I tried
I know this is a CLASSIC recording. An IMPORTANT recording. Usually I'm all over jazz. This was good for me. I think I'll have to give it another listen - or 3!
I'm sure that this was well-received in 1972. And maybe they were inspirational to many bands, but to me, in 2024, it sounded like a parody band - a "Spinal Tap" of what a pop-rock band should sound like. Read up a bit on them, and it truly sounds like a Netflix show about a struggling rock band. (Inspiration???)
ONe of the most underrated voices. She is so soulful. Love her. And "Beautiful" is an amazing song that lifts so many people up!
Interesting mix - reggae, R & B. Never heard of Finley before (by name), but certainly know him from his work with the Commodores!
I know they have a huge fanbase, but I just found this depressing. Maybe a few more listens, but no.
Just not a hip hop fan. Sorry
Very Emo.
Classic. Maybe the best 4th album of any band.
Love "Killing them Softly", but not a fan overall.
NO NO NO
Classic R & B that has had so much influence on other groups over the years
Gloomy day. Perfect for Tom Waits
This may be an off-beat opinion, but I would bet that Olivia Rodrigo would be a fan. SUre, she's pop, and PJ is Alt Rock, but there are definite similarities in the guitar riffs and vocals.
Without Buddy Holly & The Crickets, there would be no Beatles, and no Rock & Roll (and where would Elvis Costello have gotten his inspiration??)
Weird electronica. Definitely has its place - on a very late night/early morning in a dark room with strobes flashing... can see how its influential
SHAFT!
Classic Taylor. Moody. Very folk and chill.
A little raw for what I was feeling.
Justified had it's time and place. At that time, Rock Your Body was everywhere. You can just tell how much he admires Michael Jackson.
Brings me back to when I was a DJ on our college station - 1 of the 2 stations on campus that played "hits", not your typical college indie...
Very cool - brought me back. Love the intros to the songs.
Great album. Fan of Dire Straits for years. Knopfler's guitar is so distinct.
Classic album with Aerosmith defining their sound. had some tough years ahead, and then made a ridiculous major come back. Great music for this Boston blues band!
Almost every song perfect. This album - egotistically titled as it is - took folk singing in a new direction. JT, Carly Simon... CSN (&Y), Joni Mitchell... the sound of the early 70s (and beyond), leading to Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles... and unfortunately "Soft Rock" and the slam it receives. But such beautiful music.
Brings me back to college - such the "college rock" sound of the late 1980s...
Never listened to this whole album before. It’s a beautiful album, so reflective of its time - a cross between jazz, blues & rock
Has it's place. Moody. Electronica. Not the type of thing I should be listening to Monday morning before I have my first cup of coffee.
Don't hate me, but I just found it repetitive. He's a brilliant lyricist, and "Blowin in the Wind" deserves avery accolade on the planet. But it didn't work for me yesterday.
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant. Every song is perfection (ok, maybe not "At the Zoo," but that song reminds me of old commercials for The Bronx Zoo, back in the 70s.)
Not my favorite Roxy album, but certainly groundbreaking for 1973. Prog rock, glam rock... I'll be honest. I never heard of Roxy until the late 80s. Definitely have a place in Rock History. (Would there be a Talking Heads without them?)
Predictable R & B. Nice and smooth for a sultry evening. Not for me.
An interesting album. It’s got the bar classic, Solisbury Hill - also heard on countless television dramas and romantic comedies. m But the album is just all over the place: Prog Rock Cabaret Rock Opera Not quite sure this is the debut single album I’d make after so much success with Genesis
This was a beautiful album. Love the bossa nova sound!
This album sets the solo artist Michael Jackson up for the success of Thriller. So many good numbers - big hits. Just "Off the Wall!" Whatever happened to this guy?
What an amazing guitarist. He’s up there with the greats!
Had only previously heard the song "Babylon" - which is honestly, one of the most overplayed songs, isn't it? Good album. Great for a Sunday Brunch.
Classic Pearl Jam. Next step beyond Nirvana. Not my cup of tea. Never had been, but for "Evermore" will be a great album
Classic Blues Rock. What a debut album!
It's Elvis. And Suspicious Minds is one of the best songs Ever!
Depressing. Could see why this was the soundtrack to Virgin Suicides.
So 2 days ago, I had THE Elvis. Now THIS Elvis. What an amazing album. SO many have tried to immitate, but he's still out there!
As my daughter said as we listened: Why does every band from the 60s sound like The Beatles? Just because!
Genius. 1999 really brought his funky genius to the public.
Well - I love about 7 songs on this album: Sgt. Pepper, With a Little Help From My Friends, LSD, Getting Better, Lovely Rita and A Day in the Life...The others, the psychedelic and the experimental... just weird, but totally understand and appreciate the genius behind them. OF course none of this would have happened if the Beach Boys never released Pet Sounds!
So 1980s New Wave.
Brazilian, but didn't vibe for me.
don’t get it
Prog rock at it's finest.
Never heard of Machito, but absolutely loved the vibe of this album. Afro-Cuban jazz.... so enlightening and fun!
90s pop-grunge
I think I remember Screaming Trees a bit from long ago... enjoyed the sound. Nice rock, folk. I'd listen again!
Thought i’d like it more than I did. “Boys” isnangreatbtunenofncourse
Had its moments but then the hard grunge kicked in , and I had to move on..
Stevie Wonder made some perfect albums. This is one of them!
Just a beautiful album. Yes, "Bridge" is a perfect, perfect song. But I love "The Boxer" and "The Only Living Boy in New York". They just hit home.
So weird. Man/Woman/They/Them.... not really sure. At one point I thought I was listening to Tiny Tim... not for me
Tired of 1960s Kinks sounding bands right now.
Tears For Fears just makes beautiful music.
Prefer Styx with the Cleveland Youth Orchestra!
Nothing really original here. Moving on.
I remember SP from the 80s. Wasn't a fan then. Not a fan now.
Classic CCR!
Not so impressed. From what I read, she had her moment in 2002, but went nowhere. Rap/Reggae/Hip=-Hop. Ok, but not memorable
A beautiful album.
Hate me. I'm just not a Depeche Mode fan.
Never have been a fan.
Loved it then, love it now. Modern folk.
Gamechanger - a couple of good songs, but then crazy experimental
Dusty has such a wonderful voice. In a way, precursor to Linda Rondstat
So beautiful and classic
Brilliant album - a few "eh," but overall, I'd listen again and again
Go-Gos were a great punk/new-wave band out of LA. This was a huge breakout for them, and they became the Queens of Pop. Belinda was and is a star. Glad they're still somewhat together.
I'm generally not an Airplane fan, but surprisingly really enjoyed almost every cut on this album. New appreciation??
If you're not giving this 4-5 *s, you're just biased against Billy. It's that simple. He's one of the greatest songwriters of all times. And listen to the melodies - he shamelessly borrows from Bach, Chopin, Mozart... but also the Beatles and Buddy Holly. And that's fine. He reinvents and creates amazing pop music. The Stranger is perfect. The perfect companion album to Born to Run. Yeah, I said it.
60s, folk/psychedelic... but so boring.
FUNky!
I suppose if you love R & B, you will love this album
Kickstarted my love for VH.
Not for me. Didn't get it.
BORING
Read the reviews - funny, it's either all 5* or 1*. I'm a 5*er. One of the greatest pop albums ever produced (and with an extra *, if you listened - like I did - to "Taylor's Version")
If this is rated anything other than 5* by folks, I don't know what's happened in this world.
Boring
Zombie are an under-rated band. They made really great music - sort of psychedelic, but heavily Beatles influenced.
Like Foo Fighters, but not this album
This is THE Brunch album. It's quiet, gentle, pop-jazzy. Perfect for its time, but definitely got played out. "Come Away With Me" is a beautiful song - I just can't stand listening to it anymore! (Which is sad)
This is either a 5* or a 1*. You love it or hate it. I don't understand the 2* reviews. This is Metallica at their strongest. They could have retired with "Enter Sandman", but they blast through this album. It's a classic.
