The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Velvet UndergroundNot a fan really which is a shame. It’s an album I’ve been told my whole life that I should like.. but it was pretty dull!

I should like it. But I don’t. Repetitive songs, poor lyricism, singer has a grating voice. Where is my mind probably the only saving grace.
Starts very strongly with all the highlights out of the way in the first few songs. Pretty forgettable after that. Lyricism good at times but album isn’t very diverse and does drag
Love it. Didn’t think I was a Pink Floyd fan beforehand and maybe I’m still not, but this album is special. Opening track steals the show but the artistry and storytelling on Welcome to the Machine is also remarkable. Essential to listen to this in full, undistracted, and let the music take you.
Brilliant album. Starts strong and I expected it to fizzle out but it certainly didn’t. Clever music, good lyrics, and a relaxing vibe. Definitely an album for cosy winter nights!
Upbeat Disco tunes with the very distinctive Nile Rodgers sound were a highlight. Some obvious highlights in the fact that all the proper Sister Sledge had are on this album. Groovy vibe. I like it - but the genre isn’t quite my cup of tea.
Jazz Club! The album is great… really great. Not really my genre of music to put on casually - but I really do appreciate the musicianship and composition. It just gives a great relaxed vibe perfect for working in the background.
Pretty grim listening. Creatively pretty dull, the beat was the same for every song more or less. A couple of catchy tunes but mostly an expression of a movement and a culture that I play no part in.
Pretty shit. Only got 4 songs in but they were all pretty boring. Can’t give much more than 1star.
Unreal album! Those middle tracks are all absolute hits. Not exactly my style of music but one simply can’t not love MJ. A couple of weaker tracks toward the end are disappointing. 4.5 starts really but it’s earned a 5!
It’s a shame; I like Richard Hawley a lot - he was great supporting Pulp in Sheffield, but this album is just a bit too low and slow for me. The crooning works for a while but does begin to drag a little about halfway through. Lyricism is good. A little bit of an air of club singer about it.
Pretty dull again. Better than Surfer Rosa in that I could finish it okay. A few decent tracks but no standouts at all. 2 stars
Brainrot in an album. Just don’t understand the hype at all. Having said that there’s a couple of catchy tunes that bring it up to 2 Stars. Fundamentally I wouldn’t listen again.
Very samey. Not a huge fan of the vocalist either. Obviously Back in Back and You Shook Me All Night Long are highlights but the other hits are pretty poor imo. Not a fan. 2/3 Stars.
Not for me I’m afraid. Only got 1 song in but could tell it wasn’t for me. Springs no surprises
Pretty dull and boring. Just never got into it at all the songs were slow and the lyrics didn’t really jump at me. There’s talent there but she’s no Tracy Chapman.
I don’t really get the hype around the Stones. Jagger’s voice is pretty awful to me. Love in Vain could be a good song if it was sung by someone else. Musicianship is pretty good though and carries the songs. Very boring
Pretty rogue - all a bit weird but fairly decent. Not really my sort of music but can kind of see the appeal.
Not great to be honest. Voice is uninteresting, musicianship is straightforward as is the lyricism. One of many artists in exactly the same vane who churn out pretty standard stuff just like this.
Very Kinks - definitely not up there with some of the Beatles psychedelic fuelled tunes but there’s defo a few highlights here too. I definitely don’t absolutely adore it but also I wouldn’t skip the tracks either. Would recommend as a classic British 60s album.
All a bit strange and conceptual so I’m not sure at all what to think of it. Eye opening. I like it to be fair, not sure if I’ll come back to it but it is pretty cool. 3.5 stars.
Didn’t really listen to it properly but was just a bit odd for me.
Great album. Well written songs. Some diversity in musicianship too. Lyrically brilliant.
10/10 No notes, no skips. Packed with hit after hit - probably top 15 oat for me.
Pretty average. Creatively intriguing but not for me.
Good show, cool sentiment too. Can’t hate Johnny cash either I think it’s great.
Really innovative for 1970. Enjoyed so much more than I thought I would. Diverse musicianship and lyricism. Really big fan and no weak tracks as far as I’m concerned. Rare 5 stars.
Brilliant album. Great vibe, no skips, and some obvious brilliant highlights.
Not my favourite of theirs by any stretch. Going to California drags it up to 4 starts simply because it’s possibly the best song ever. Very varied musicianship on this album which I like a lot but there’s not much great lyricism. It’s pretty classic LZ but not my fave.
A real experience. Takes you through the full range of emotions one after another. Some brilliant covers and originals. A reflection on mortality and of the life that comes before it. No better way to bow out.
Pretty one dimensional bordering on boring. Not quite sure of the huge appeal but thought it was perfectly pleasant. 2.5 Stars
Pretty good. Good to work along to. Not as good as other jazz albums I’ve heard I think this was a bit too much at times but some of the tunes were a good vibe.
Liked it - creatively interesting and certainly pretty good for the time. Not my absolute favourite but very solid for sure.
Just pretty boring. I don’t like Cornell’s voice at all which ruins the whole thing really. Would avoid most of the tunes on there but it’s definitely saved by the musicianship.
Really liked this album. Just a great vibe and good musicianship. Neil Young is cool - I didn’t know that before
Eh.. I liked it I guess. Some pretty funky takes on blues songs but it didn’t blow me away. 6/10
Can’t say I liked it at all. Brimful of Asha is a good tune but apart from that it was pretty dull. Indian influence was obviously interesting but the constant hip hop beat was boring and the interlude songs didn’t add much to the narrative. Lyricism was poor too. 2/5
Not my sort of music. Couple of catchy tunes but ultimately not one that I’d come back to.
Not a fan really which is a shame. It’s an album I’ve been told my whole life that I should like.. but it was pretty dull!
Really good. Classic punky Ramones. Can’t dislike it at all really. Could be a touch more diverse but wouldn’t skip any of the tunes.
Brilliant album! Diverse musicianship - sludgy in places, pop in others. Really big fan and will definitely be returning to Killing Joke.
Pretty standard Black Keys - all their songs sound the same to me. That being said, it is a formula that I like. Some pretty funky songs but doesn’t blow me away.
