1001 Albums Summary

First three are great. Goes into a dark country blues vibe which was cool, but lacking any hooks. Last two songs exit and mothers of the disappeared had an interesting cool vibe but again lacked that finishing melodic punch for me.

Disappointed. Meandering without rhythm or melody. ‘Keep gettin it on’ made me think the whole album was conjured up to support the only good track on the album.

So much fun and groove. Impossible to not smile or walk with a limp whilst listening.

Unreal. Never been imitated and still stands out as fresh and original amongst the 50 years of music that’s come after it (to only give away is the production quality). Shout out to the drummer too.

I did not know my bloody valentine sounded like that. Not my thing usually, and think other bands do the same kind of thing better.

I’m sure to someone it’s the perfect album. Does one thing for 17 songs. Only song of note for me was Memphis. Reminded me of GTA San Andreas country music station.

Actually got into the head banging after a while. Last song was the best.

Enjoyed it. Really liked Piano room.

Think I would have enjoyed it more in the right context. Glad the only Portishead song I know finally came in at the end. Best track too.

Better than I thought it would be.

You could cut 25% of it and still have two 5 star albums. USSR, helter Skelter, yer blues, me and my monkey, birthday - all monsters. While my guitar, mother natures son, blackbird, cry baby cry. Even all the silly McCartney story songs are enjoyable interludes. Didn’t wanna just blindly give the Beatles 5 stars every time, but…

The best I can say is that the music was so bland, I could focus entirely on the god awful lyrics.

Never been to a rave and probably wouldn’t enjoy it. But I enjoyed this.

I enjoyed imagining the fat, redneck layabout she might have been singing about. Otherwise, apart from those memories of you, found it dull.

Only song I really liked was the one with no singing.

Bring back disco for the bass players

Honestly hated it. Every element of every song felt disjointed. A band with only one good song and it’s not even on their best album 🤦‍♂️

In my uni days trying to present myself as some philosophy studying hippy, could well see myself pretending to dig this to impress girls. Did quite like it.

Need louder headphones

I would like to see some science on testosterone production whilst listening to AC/DC. Only soy boy wet wipes don’t like.

Unexpectedly vibed with it. I felt like it was the soundtrack to an old crank hoarder as he went about his scruffy life, being cantankerous.

Might grow on me next time round

The previous two NY albums were so boring, that I was surprised to enjoy this one. First few songs hooked me into the right listening space.

Didn’t realise so much prog sounded the same. Still good.

A great album, with two of the best metal songs of all time.

Bowie-esque. I’m glad it came out after Uni. Remember them being everywhere. Glad they’re not anymore.

Incredible. Possibly favourite album so far.

Not as good as I was hoping. Ok though.

It is the definitive album of the entire ‘emo’ subculture. And probably the best album that can be considered ‘emo’. A bit too ‘emo’ for my tastes (compared to Dookie, for example), but I rate them higher than blink 182, and a lot of other rubbish American teen punk.

Obviously of its era, but really liked it.

Felt like a piece of American cultural history more than an album.

Minor chords are for sad wets who wanna cry in the corner about the girl who dumped them. Cheer up, you’re alive ain’t ya?!? Listen to Slade. Like AC/DC but happier.
