pretty good. reminds me of the music dad listens to (because he actually does listen to R.E.M. LMFAO). put this on while studying, ‘twas an easy listen. i liked it well enough, wouldn’t really go out of my way to listen to much BUT i did like “Turn You Inside-Out” because it was more similar to what i usually listen to! solid 3/5 (would give it a 4 but i have a feeling there will be some genuine 4’s down the road so i’d rather be harsh now…)
an interesting listen. no real sense of cohesion imo… not necessarily bad! i will say that i REALLY like the track “Venus In Furs” bc it’s super groovy!! the tracks that were most popular according to apple music were lowkey highkey mid. heroin was an AWFUL RIDE (i was uncomfortable asf because WHAT WERE THOSE INSTRUMENTALS). props to the velvet underground though because they did a really great job of conveying their message with that one. overall, a bit too old sounding for my tastes and a lowkey unpleasant listen.
would i actively listen to this? no. did i surprisingly REALLY like it? YES!!!! this was such a cute lil album and was lowkey peak 60’s music. i don’t really have much to say about this one, it was pretty straightforward. country meets rock. 4/5!
this was genuinely one of the BEST album openings ever. literally ascended to those instrumentals. this album reminds me of my parents as well bc they LOVE U2 (for context they NEVER go to concerts and they went to a U2 concert and loved it). so from a nostalgia standpoint this album is really great. also it is really great overall, a SOLID, EASY 5/5. pretty similar to what i usually listen to, with a bit more of that mainstream tinge to the sound. “bullet the blue sky” is probably my favorite tune bc THAT is rock!!!! loved this album like genuinely.

i’m not gonna lie, i was really questioning this album’s integrity after that opener. BUT it quickly turned around. everything was so funky and rhythmic and FUN! the beastie boys are always a fun listen so idk why i was surprised. nothing really stood out to me, but that’s not to say i didn’t like it… in fact, i would say my feelings on this album were more akin to love. would i go out of my way to listen? probably not (rap/hip-hop has never been my niche). yeah i already knew i liked this album. i actually have a record of this album (if you know, you know…) i really enjoy funky british rock! i did forget to take real notes because i was locked in BUT my favorite tune is probably “sunshine of your love”. also, i liked the lament at the end. it gave the album something fresh to end with! 5/5.
better than i thought FOR SURE. love dolly but i’ve never heard of the other two, and i usually don’t care for country. it was an easy listen for sure, but nothing stood out musically. if anything, i thought everyone fell flat, and usually dolly DELIVERS. however, flat does not mean bad! i still liked it overall, i just think more could have been done to make this album stand out. 3/5.
opener (“smells like teen spirit”) is a classic. overall, this album is a classic. didn’t disappoint (as per usual for nirvana). i was surprised that the closer (“endless, nameless”) was starting to edge near heavy rock/metal (but i liked it). this is one of those albums/artists where i can understand why they’re popular. love grunge alternative rock! 5/5.
i was unsure at first, but “catholic block” had me thinking that maybe this wasn’t so bad of an album. however, this album did kinda feel as if “rock lobster” (a good song btw) were translated into a punk rock album. i really appreciated the guitar work, and overall the instrumentals were strong! however, the album was really not cohesive enough for my liking. was gonna rate this a 3/5, then i got to the last track. 2/5.
ngl as an instrumental music girlie i mess with this. i appreciate how the first track WALKS YOU THROUGH traditional indian music which is something i have NEVER heard in an album. little introductions were also present in bits and pieces throughout the album which was cool. this was completely different from anything i have listened to, but i’m really glad i did! 4/5.
“tutti frutti” MIGHT be the catchiest opener i’ve heard yet. THERE’S EVEN A TAKE TWO ON DISC 2! a good walking bass line always speaks to my soul (there’s one in pretty much every tune). i appreciate how much the sax is RIPPING throughout. “oh why?” is also a standount! i love 50’s rock and roll. 5/5.

“london calling” was kinda giving “monster mash” (you know the one). so strong start. after that i actually kinda liked the album, but nothing stood out. i wish this was out of ten so i could give it a 7/10. but unfortunately i can’t. so 3/5.
my head says no, but my heart says YES!!!! i’m not gonna lie this is not what i’d normally get down to at all, but i really liked it (against my better judgement). the “exotic” instrumentation (thanks wikipedia) was so funky and nontraditional that i couldn’t help but giggle to myself. also, i’m pretty sure this album told a story (not 100% but it felt like it did so i also like that). thank you psychedelic folk. 4/5.
i lowkey vibed throughout this entire album. big 90’s rap jammer here. i think “911 is a joke” was one of my favorites. not download-worthy but still a fun listen. this album was an hour long but went by SO UNBELIEVABLY QUICK. i liked the transitions from song to song — this album almost felt like one continuous track. bravo! 4/5.
listened to the non-deluxe version because that was the only available one. not really my type of album and i honestly found it odd that it was classified as pop. especially considering after i listened to this album airbuds told me i was the top listener on the app for tomorrow tom. i felt the long version of “genius of love” was an unnecessary addition (considering the short version sucked too). thankful i didn’t have access to the deluxe version. 1/5.
“can’t let go” was goated. also “joy” was pretty good. i wasn’t expecting a lot from this album. but it was surprisingly good. it was like the country equivalent of pop rock! not my usual genre of choice, but still enjoyable. the album cover was really pretty too (though that doesn’t factor into my rating). 4/5!

the beach boys are SO CUTESY!!!!! this album screams sunshine and rainbows and i am here for it. “wouldn’t it be nice” is a CLASSIC. this album is in apple music’s 100 best albums for a reason. 4/5 but only because this isn’t my usual style.

bro apple music might be onto something describing elbow as a cross between pink floyd and coldplay! (two top tier bands btw). “the bones of you” was my EXACT type of song. also “grounds for divorce”. and “the loneliness of a tower crane driver” has some INSANE chords. there were other songs i really enjoyed but i forgot to write those down. 5/5!
these were some goofy beats. if you’re familiar with the internet meme “dr. hanky spanky”, know that these songs sounded like they were produced by him. there was maybe one song i liked (out of 18). mid would be generous. 1/5.

“walk on by” was a MASTERPIECE. THE LYRICS??? THE INSTRUMENTALS. surprisingly WORKS as an 11-12 minute song. the closing guitar solo was excellent. the next two songs were good, not much else to say. “by the time i get to phoenix” should be renamed to “by the time i finish my monologue” because that was LONG. and mostly talking. however, i can respect the art on that one. overall, album was a solid 4/5.
lowkey kinda creepy. not really my vibe. didn’t help that i listened in a dark room. there just isn’t a lot going on. a shame, since this this was a pioneering album for electronic music. i respect it and how it may have shaped the electronic style but just cannot get behind it. 1/5

this is the jazziest radiohead album! the opener (“packt like sardines in a crushed tin box”) is one of the worse tracks on this album. it only goes uphill from there because the next song is “pyramid song” ❤️ i been on the hype train for this song before i even liked radiohead. if you like slow, kinda sad songs in the minor key please listen to this one. “pulk/pull revolving doors” SUCKS because of the weird voice changer stint they have going on. however. it is saved by “you and whose army?” which has genuinely one of the best buildups in all of music history. this might even beat “pyramid song” in my book. “i might be wrong” is next up…. and let me tell you that thom yorke is DEFINITELY not wrong. this song has a really great driving bass line, reminiscent of the home depot theme song. listen to this if you love home depot. also it has a really cute guitar and vocal outro. “knives out” is great. couldn’t really say why. just a masterpiece of a song, though that’s probably more my music taste speaking than an objective appraisal of its musicality. HERE WE GO…. because “morning bell/amnesiac” is next. this is the better “morning bell” (the other is on kid a). the backing vocals are so haunting and really support the dark lyrics. it’s creepy in the best way. it’s also slow and takes its time. i HIGHLY recommend this if you like your music on the more unsettling side. then, of course, we have “dollars and cents”. i recently put myself onto this song when i finally did my full listen of amnesiac a few months ago. underrated for sure. it also has those really satisfying driving instrumentals. one of the jazzier pieces in my opinion. i like when everything goes slightly flat in the middle, a nice intentional choice from radiohead that makes you feel like something is off. the harmonies in this one also really make me happy. “hunting bears” is a good instrumental. doesn’t particularly float my boat but it’s definitely respectable. “like spinning plates” also was not my favorite previously but listening again has changed my mind. it’s really pretty! “life in a glasshouse” is a peak closer. THIS is what jazz is about. there is in fact a clarinet in this song. also a plus. another fav. all in all this album is a masterpiece. not peak radiohead but still super solid. 5/5.

yeah the first few songs were giving journey (a very good thing). “foreplay/long time” had a very apt title because the guitar solo during the intro was CRAZY good and lowkey built up to the bulk of the song. and then the closing guitar solo was ALSO crazy good. “smokin’” was peak 60’s/70’s rock. overall really solid. 4/5.

“public service announcement” is peak humor. “kill you” has an insane beat and flow! also “stan” somehow manages to balance rap and pop perfectly. like what do you mean there’s an actual melody?? “slim shady” is always goated. “marshall mathers” had a good chorus and a great guitar solo. but then it led into the most UNCOMFORTABLE listening experience of my life bro. iykyk. “kim” has an INSANE instrumental as well as an INSANE set of lyrics. really disturbing. a lot of these songs did cover other uncomfortable topics but i feel they were more of a social commentary. this one was also on apple music’s top 100 albums list — and i agree!! would probably rate 5/5, but it gets a point taken off for how disgusting some of the lyrics were and how well some really violent stories were painted. 4/5.
you can definitely tell dave grohl is the frontman because there are HEAVY nirvana influences (see “i’ll stick around”). i also really liked “alone + easy target”! the instrumentation was really well done and the chorus is super catchy (but not in an annoying earworm way). “floaty” was another standout and was the perfect rock ballad! “weenie beenie” started getting into screamer rock (which i lowkey mess with). i am also gonna glaze the electric solo in “oh, george”. HUGE fan of the electric guitar. so it’s no surprise that i loved “x-static”. cannot believe i haven’t tried foo fighters before this. 5/5.
stevie wonder does in fact have peak album art. “smile please” is so PERFECT. it’s so laid back and is so cute! the lyrics on this album are so well written and have a super cool religious undertone and lowkey make me really joyous. “too shy to say” has a really great chord progression and was really pretty. “you haven’t done nothin’” has a really good brass line and is SUPER groovy (thank you 70’s!). however, “they won’t go when i go” might be my favorite song on this album. i love minor keys!! all in all a great album. only some non-bangers (though this is a loose term). 4/5.

overall a stronger start (thank you “zoo station”) than that of the other u2 album i reviewed (joshua tree). “one” brings me back to when my parents would glaze u2 and try to put me on. i was wrong for not listening! “until the end of the world” has a GREAT bass line and some INSANE lyrics. probably my favorite track. however, the next track, “who’s gonna ride your wild horses” was giving KISS THE GIRL from the little mermaid with all those “sha la la’s”. “the fly” mixes genres (a bit of rap, a bit of rock, a bit of pop) really well. i also enjoyed this track more so than the others. “mysterious ways” is also a classic (which i was already familiar with). “acrobat” has some SICK instrumentals. “love is blindness” is a really sultry closer and is akin to a tango (which i love). probably my second favorite track! overall, this album is SUPER respectable and had some bangers, even if i wasn’t the biggest fan of some of the other tracks. would still rate 5/5.
this is my second who album (don’t remember much about the first). very 60’s (i wonder why!) “i don’t mind” had such a good flow to it. the rest was all kinda the same. however… that’s not a bad thing on this album. i actually kinda liked it. very easy listen, some very fun tunes. 4/5.
pretty okay. super relaxing but nothing special. the instrumentation is where this album shines. very jazzy. you can see how this may have influenced the development of yacht rock as a genre for sure. the one standout on this album is “maxine”. that was PEAK. everything else was meh. my dad probably would have liked this more than i did. 3/5.
very metallica-esque. “child in time” was SICK. 12 minutes of glory. love when the lead SHREDS. there is genuinely nothing better. this is why i love hard rock. “smoke on the water” is a stands tune classic and a super fun tune overall. “the mule” has the CRAZIEST drum solo. super impressive. one of the performances had a call and response between the lead guitar and vocalist which was a lot of fun to follow. the rest i didn’t take any notes on but they were similarly interesting. 5/5.

VERY similar instrumentation to artists like massive attack, portishead, etc. (all artists i listen to btw). i wish i could have understood the lyrics so i could grasp the meaning of the songs because the instrumentation was SO good (but that will not affect my rating since that can’t be controlled)! 4/5.

yes this was great. one of the reasons i love rock is the instrumentals (and you know how bad i will glaze good instrumentation). what’s more is this is VERY experimental so beyond the baseline rock feel to the songs this album pays tribute to genres such as classical, musical theater, jazz, etc. for example “luney tune” ended with an INSANE string outro (95% sure it was the violin but i’m not well versed in strings). “gutter cat vs. the jets” i believe is intended to reference west side story but i’m not 100% sure. i liked it anyways. “blue turk” is SO jazzy. all these songs tell a story which i appreciate. 5/5.

ESPECIALLY in “a new level”. it is a shame that the vocals are lacking because the instrumentation is so scrumptious. “walk” lacked any sort of vocal agility or capability which unfortunately ruined the song (even the insane lead solo couldn’t save it). “this love” feels SO MUCH like a cross between nirvana and nin. furthermore “rise” really felt similar to “march of the pigs” by nin. which i mess with. the tempo changes in “live in a hole” are really satisfying. really good overall (except for “walk”). still, i think everything else is so good that it negates how bad walk was. 5/5.

behind on albums so i didn’t want to finish this. not bas. probably a 3/5.
the opening/title track is really beautiful. i adore how it samples “can’t help falling in love”. the next track, “come together” is SO in line with my music tastes it’s not even funny. it was jazzy and really reminded me of the tracks on radiohead’s amnesiac. “electricity” starts to dabble in rock and i mess with it. “broken heart” has an AMAZING brass background (shout out to the french horn). this might be my favorite track. “no god only religion” is a close second. pure instrumental tracks (when they’re good (like this one)) make an album really strong imo. “cop shoot cop” was 14 minutes and i loved every second. a really great, really complex closer. i’m bamboozled at how good this album is. 5/5.
did not finish. got (almost) an hour in and did NOT mess with it (there was over an hour left). decided it wasn’t worth my time. was just okay at best, maybe disc 2 would have been better. but i guess i’ll never know. 2/5.
this was ORIGINALLY a 3/5. obviously solid guitar work (it IS jimi hendrix after all) but i personally prefer harder rock. yes, my original rating was kinda skewed by my tastes. i liked “purple haze”, “foxey lady”, and “stone free” the best. HOWEVER, my rating was bumped up last minute because there was a “track” (aka bonus footage) that went behind the scenes and explained studio works, recording, etc. it was SO interesting. so instead of a 3/5, i give this album a 4/5.
also just okay. i REALLY liked “lyke-wake dirge”, felt very religiously motivated and reminded me of a solid choral piece. everything else was okay. appreciated the use of lesser known instruments such as the sitar. very folky. 3/5.
had high hopes for this one (not to judge an album by its covet but i did). meh at best, not a lot of substance. not displeasing to my ears but not the best ever. 3/5.
“save the children” is HAUNTINGLY beautiful. even though the rest didn’t really catch my eye, so to speak, i did mess with this album. very chill and laid back, yet it made an important statement. i can definitely see why this is in apple music’s top 100 albums. 4/5.
really innovative for rap. the vocals were definitely giving hip-hop but the instrumentals drew from a bunch of different genres outside of rap. really cool mix of songs. i liked the scooby snacks reference. probably a 4/5.
thought i’d like this more since i really mess with “tom’s diner”. alas, that song is not on this album, and i did not mess with those that WERE on the album. very ethereal, very folk-y. not my style though. 2/5.
she is so talented. take me back to when pop stars could actually sing! the harmonies on “ain’t no other man” were SO good. also she is RIFFING. “still dirrty” (yes, 2 r’s) has an AWESOME bari sax line. it’s SO groovy. “thank you” is honestly so cute bc it’s dedicated to fans and has messages from said fans. they talk about like how her music has helped them (which is really awesome, and there’s one of my all time favorite songs on this album that i think is another one of those super down-to-earth/helpful songs). “enter the circus” is a CRAZY interlude and a great intro to disc 2. this is followed up by “welcome” which is SO cinematic. then i want to touch on the NEXT song, “candyman”, which pays homage to the 50’s/60’s doo-wop era and has a super sick walking bass line. next is “nasty naughty boy” which has a NASTYYY brass line. it’s the best, most sultry jazz i’ve EVER heard. (can you tell i like disc 2 more). the last song i want to talk about is “hurt” (this is the aforementioned favorite) which is HEARTBREAKING yet sooooo powerful. if you listen to any please listen to this one. disc one gets a 4/5, disc 2 gets a 5/5. since disc 2 was INSANE i will round up instead of down. 5/5.
pretty good! a really fun listen with airpods (surround sound audio). super groovy and funky, yet laid back and relaxed. nothing stood out to me but i still really liked it. probably a 4/5.

a lot of the songs could have been longer ngl (this is a good thing btw). i hate to glaze “respect” since it is the most mainstream track BUT it’s popular for a reason. easily her catchiest and most vocally impressive track. aretha franklin is just a beast. 5/5.
i LOVED how this was basically all instrumentals. it’s cool seeing jazz intersect with world music. there was a lot of passion in this album and it showed. 5/5.
yeah okay polyrhythms! big fan of this one. “take five” is a HUGE jazz staple and i love it so much. was super excited to hear it. the walking bass is a star. 5/5.
lowkey mid except for “waterfalls” PLUS the interludes. everything else lacked spice. unfortunately, the good songs couldn’t save the bad. 2/5.

REALLY experimental and all over the place but somehow still cohesive. i love prog rock! the transitions between songs were seamless and there were so many bangers. standouts include “zen archer” and “i’m so proud/ooh baby baby/la la means i love you/cool jerk” (this one was a masterpiece ngl). didn’t feel like an hour bc it was so enjoyable to listen to. 5/5.

taylor surprised me. again. i used to consider myself firmly in the “her new music sucks” camp but now i understand it. would i listen to her in my free time? no. can i appreciate that she makes good music? yes! i recognized most of these and really REALLY liked “no body, no crime”. probably a 5/5.
literally perfect. holy drums. this was peak heavy metal. the instrumentals were GENUINELY insane. if you try to say any other style of music is more technically impressive than metal i won’t hear you out. this is one of those albums where the vocals really don’t matter. i had a lot of fun listening to this one. probably gonna download the entire album (which is a feat for any album on this list). easy 5/5.

splendid. just an amalgamation of rap and pop and rock and i love it. “clint eastwood” ALWAYS hits but so did the rest of the album. 5/5.
really good as well. i knew “been caught stealing” so was excited for the rest — and i wasn’t let down. “of course” was SO GOOD. IT WAS SO GOOD. that alone made the album worth it. however, i think this still gets a 4/5.
this one REALLY freaked me out. like the lyrics and the vibes…. ugh. some songs were better than others but “dirt in the ground” scared me enough to make this album a 1/5.

REALLY GOOD. “movin’ on up” is a GREAT opener and i THINK it reminds me of george michael (maybe “faith”)? another stand out is “don’t fight it, feel it” which definitely is similar to “funky town”. all in all a pretty diverse, yet cohesive album. did not feel like an hour. 5/5.

SO GOOD. peak prog rock. i liked how the second track quoted brahms. seemed to draw on religious motifs which was cool and gave the album a very themed feel. “heart of the sunrise” is a GREAT closer. it’s like if pink floyd did their version of “paranoid android”. i love a good all over the place song. 5/5.
i lowkey don’t really like kate bush… sorry not sorry! “running up that hill” isn’t bad but it is definitely overplayed. the first half of the album was mid at best and bad at worst. however, the second half got marginally better. “jig of life” is an irish masterpiece. the next track, “hello earth” was REALLY cool. so haunting. i liked the choral aspect. i thought this album would end on a good note. alas, the last song let me down. the two good songs on this album were not good enough to save this from a 2/5.
“airbag” is a good opener but probably my least favorite track on this album (not counting “fitter happier” since that’s an interlude). especially since it is followed by “paranoid android” which puts every other song on this album to shame (relatively speaking). there is SO much creative liberty being taken with this song and i love how it feels like 3 different songs in 1. i love when it breaks into 7/4 time AND there is so much to dissect beyond that with respect to the music theory behind this song. the also electric guitar SHREDS this whole song so massive respect. probably my 2nd favorite radiohead song of all time. “subterranean homesick alien” really does a great job with utilizing electronic aspects to convey that otherworldly feel. it’s a really pretty song too. “exit music (for a film)” was one of my big introductions to radiohead and probably sits in my top 5 as well IF NOT my top 3. it’s very melancholy and gives me a really nice impending sense of doom which is what i love in a song. the drum break into the climax is SO satisfying (iykyk). i love the storytelling with this one too. even if you don’t really listen to radiohead you probably know “let down” from tiktok/reels edits! this is probably the prettiest track on this album. the final verse and chorus is HEARTBREAKING and usually makes me cry (sorry not sorry). if you listen to any of these PLEASE listen to this one because it is definitely a people pleaser. “karma police” is one of the more popular ones but not for me. it’s good but not great imo. “fitter happier” is lowkey REALLY good for an interlude… but at the end of the day, it’s an interlude and i’m not gonna go out of my way to listen to it. a really interesting commentary on society though. speaking of social commentary… the next song, “electioneering” is a very clear allegory for politics. i also really like this song, it’s upbeat and a LOT of fun. love the instrumentals on this one as well as thom’s falsetto. “climbing up the walls” is DEFINITELY the creepiest tune on this list. if you’ve seen yellowjackets there’s a really impactful scene set to this song and i can’t listen without getting reminded of that. regardless, a great tune which i adore. “no surprises” is probably somewhere in the middle of my ranking of tracks on this album MOSTLY because of the final verse/chorus. a bit repetitive but that’s okay. on the contrary, i REALLY like “lucky” (guaranteed sleeper hit). simultaneously hopeful with a tinge of “something’s wrong”. peak. now for the closer: “the tourist”. a super pretty ballad which contrasts the rest of the album and, in my opinion, ends the album perfectly. i didn’t like this one at first and now it’s one of my top 3 on this album. all in all, this album is currently a no-skip for me (which is rare) and has been a near no-skip since before i really got into radiohead (so i’m fairly unbiased). i also recommend as an intro album to this group. 5/5.
oh yeah. OOOOHHHHH yeah. really solid album. stevie wonder NEVER misses. “you and i” is the PERFECT power ballad. also “superstition” is of course amazing. the rest of the songs were also really good but these two stood out. super fun, super groovy listen. the instrumentation can’t be beat. 5/5.
pretty good. reminds me of deftones if they were less horny and sounded more nasally. solid instrumentals, not a big fan of how repetitive the vocals were. “today” is popular but like it’s good so. no other standouts. would still probably rate 4/5.
