Cheap Thrills
Big Brother & The Holding CompanyJanis's vocals lowkey carried
Janis's vocals lowkey carried
Not my kind of genre but I do appreciate the sentiment and meaning behind it
Depressing record with strong songwriting. If you're a Smiths fan, you might like this record
Has some filler tracks, but at least the singles really slap
Not even their best album, but it just goes to show how consistent Radiohead's discography is
Just a pleasant listen, but it probably would've sounded more interesting if I heard it at the time it was released
One of the most interesting left turns in the 2000s
Not as bad as I thought it would be. I think Marty's vocals are quite nice, and I like the storytelling. But the country sound is quite one-note, and the song structures become a little repetitive over the course of the album. Overall, I think it's better than most modern country albums nowadays.
The instrumentation sounds very lush, and Joni Mitchell's songwriting sounds great and poetic as always
Not sure how this one made the list. It's just fine
Classic dad rock that I overall enjoyed my time with, but would probably never listen to again. Basically Journey, but with more of a punch
Definitely the most surprising album of the list for me so far. This goes hard af
Half knock-off Mount Eerie before Mount Eerie, half elevator music on steroids. Overall, could be worse
I love weird albums, but this one just feels too perplexing for me. I find myself struggling to find something I like about this record. The vocals sound obnoxious, and the production isn't doing much for me. Sure, this album has its highlights, but I was begging for it to end from the moment I heard the first two tracks
The satirical writing saves this record from sounding like a stereotypical 60s British rock album. Even then, I still find it quite enjoyable
Cozy-sounding record with solid songwriting
Quite impressive for a debut album ngl. The title track might be one of the most beautiful closers I've listened to in this list so far. Definitely don't sleep on this one
I just love the consistency and musicianship of this record. Sure, it is definitely a 60s-sounding rock record but it captures the sound really well
RIP Sinead
Honestly could've been worse. I'm not a huge country fan, but I found Willie's voice to be quite soothing
It was at this moment where I realized that I am not a Bob Dylan fan. His vocal delivery makes it hard for me to get into the lyrics since his voice sounds like he’s on the verge of falling asleep in the recording studio. Also, the rusty harmonica solos give me a fucking headache. I won’t deny the influence this record had on the political side of things, but this was a pretty jarring first listen for me. Maybe someday it’ll all make sense to me, but for now, I’m giving it a hard pass.
Simply gorgeous. The orchestration almost brings a tear to my eye. Nick Drake just knows how to hit the sweet spot.
A pretty basic, stereotypical 2000s Pop/R&B that did NOT need to be 20 tracks long. Also, the songwriting feels a little too shallow for me. I guess the vocal performances are great but I don't see what's so special about this album or why it's even on this list.
Simple but sweet
A vibe, but a little repetitive
Folk music at its finest. The melodies sound amazing and Joni’s songwriting perfectly encapsulates the bittersweet and tender feel for the record.
I honestly don’t mind his voice in this album. Kinda adds on to the bleak and somber tone of the album and its themes on death. Overall, Cohen definitely ends on a high note with this one.
