This is one of the best live albums I've ever listened to. The mixing of it is impeccable . There's nothing better than feeling like you're ACTUALLY at a concert. I'm not the biggest fan of country music, but I admire Johnny Cash's songwriting. I could imagine Roald Dahl using his lyrics in a book.
Favorite(s): Jackson; Greystone Chapel
This album is captivating. I barely have any words. You're instantly drawn into its magic just from the album title alone. I wish Coldplay was insatiable like this again. (They might be, but I'm ill-informed).
Favorite(s): God Put A Smile Upon Your Face; A Rush of Blood to the Head
This isn't a bad album, it just wasn't my cup of tea. I wasn't able to make it past track 12. As a participant in choirs since I was 10, I've heard one too many sea shanties. I think The Pogues express the concept very well.
Favorite(s): Fairytale of New York. I hate that the one I liked has a bad slur in it.
DJ Shadow's use of samples is so entrancing. Every splice fits in perfectly into his work.
Favorite(s): What Does Your Soul Look Like; Midnight in a Perfect World; Napalm Brain/Scatter Brain.
Jim Morrison's voice has the level of persuasiveness and smoothness of a married, silver fox man. It blends so well with the raw-like instrumentals of the tracks. I just like The Doors hehe.
Favorite(s): You Make Me Real; Peace Frog/Blue Sunday; Land Ho!
The guitar made me weep. John Fogerty CARRIES this band. The instrumentals are out of this world.
Favorites: Ramble Tramble; My Baby Left Me; Long As I Can See the Light
Throughout listening to this album, I felt like a white kid discovering jazz music in the 40s. I loved hearing the jazzier side of Jimi Hendrix in this. While every track is distinct, they work together like a machine only the divine can understand. I certainly don't, but I know.
Favorite(s): Spanish Castle Music; Bold as Love
Jarvis Cooker's voice is suited SO WELL for indie ballad-esque songs. Mix that with the raw lyrics, this album is truly hardcore. This is an album I needed when I was 13. It resembles coming-of-age and new, uncomfortable experiences.
Dishes; This is Hardcore; Sylvia
if i told anyone this was the first bob dylan albim i lostened to, i'd be stabbed. bob dylan is like the beatles to me. i highly respect their impact on the music scene, but i feel like other artisys do twice as much work as him. i will say, "idiot wind" blew my socks off. although i haven't heard much of dylan, this track stood out like the birth of a star. it stands out compared to the similar MO of dylan's strongs
favorite(s): You're a Big Girl Now; Idiot Wind; youre gonna make me lonesome
i'm such a sucker for krautrock as a german major while this album is pretty bare, this and other songs in the genre were monumental for the alt scene during the postwar era. that's it.
favorite(s): krautrock
stevie wonder is a vessel for instruments to truly express themselves. while he has more talent in his left foot that most, you hear a connection between him and his music makers that transcends understanding (at least mine).
favorites: living for the city, golden lady, jesus children of america
i like the central theme of appreciating the family & relationships one has. the songs are quite similar, but there's a lot of talent in the sledge sisters. what a nice, feel good, disco album
favorite(s): thinking of you, we are family, easy to love
i find it so beautiful when a musician will dedicate so much tome into studying and performing a "mentor's" work. my college violin teacher did this with bach and it was one of the best recitals i've attended in my undergrad. with projects like this, it's easy to get lost, but ella's individuality shines through.
favorites: let's call the whole thing off; things are looking up
this album is so sweet. it nearly put me to sleep.
favorites: red headed stranger; can i sleep in your arms
LOVE LOVE LOVE!! the album title perfectly describes the humanistic essence of this album. i love how stevie wonder keeps to his musical memo, but explores different sounds throughout. i love the synth and rock elements seasoned throughout.
favorites: knocks me off my feet; ordinary pain; as
while a lot of the album has similar sounds, it feels so original. teen age riot will FOREVER be a classic. i love it
favorites: teen age riot, 'cross the breeze; total trash
it had taken me awhile to get into pink floyd because their music is....something. after listening to this album, I realize they're not artist that you can listen to on shuffle. i'm a changed and evolved woman.
favorites: the happiest day...; goodbye blue sky; young lust; don't leave me now
not as stellar as axis, but still a solid album. what a rockstar
favorites: voodoo chile; come on
this is DEFINITELY the kind of music i'd mosh over if i was at a concert in a dive bar or frat house, but 'out of step' isn't really a stand out album.
loooove this! i loved the intensity of the instrumentals on top of the creative flow of lyrics. new order, to me, are one of the rulers of synthesizers. i'm so glad that joy division continued to evolve
favorites: the perfect kiss; sunrise; sooner than you think
with this album, you can clearly tell where queen crossed the bridge to reach their full potential. thank you queen for taking such a risk and taking us listeners on a JOURNEY
favorites: you're my best friend; the prophet song; bohemian rhapsody
