much more psychadelic than i expected, goes kind of downwards in the second half
makes much more sense when im older
one of my all time favorites
Definitelly interesting, will give another listen.
Night Shift was nice. Some were less to my taste because of the repetition, but the mood was nice because of guitars. I don't like the mix. Voodoo dolly was cool.
Dad rock, did nothing for me.
Not memorable for me, but sounds good
I'm guessing this isn't something I was supposed silently on my headphones to listen to while at work because it just didn't feel interesting. The last song was cool, though.
Very short but all hits. Makes sense why he was so popular.
Amazing sounding guitars. I don't think I will be coming back, even though some songs were amazing.
Great singing, but the album and the arrangements did not capture my attention.
Very interesting and the arrangements are great. The in-your-face sitar gets repetative after a couple of songs. Mamata was great.
I can see why someone would like this but it just isn’t enough of anything for me.
This album had a lot going on. Some songs were sounding so good it felt like they were actually touching my brain. Some of if was boring.
Great sounding guitars and vocals. Obviously great songs. "For You" was beautiful.
Feels extremely 90's but not outdated. Got a bit forgetful for me in the end.
Used to listen to this all the time so it's hard to give it an honest review since all the songs feel familiar and natural. If I had to give it a flaw, it would definitely be the lack of range. Everything feels the same, like describing the same feeling even though some are happy and some are sad songs. But I guess that gives it a feeling of cohesiveness.
Favorites: Intro, Fantasy, Crystalised.
Cool album, obviously some songs very familiar. I liked:
- I bet you look good on the dancefloor
- Red light indicates doors are secured
- When the sun goes down
The songs are fast, precise and with great choruses. The drums stand out to me.
I'm sorry, this was just boring. I don't understand how this is important.
Extremely high energy, nice guitar parts and pumping drums. Ultimately, it felt lacking some structure to me, but I can understand why it was important.
I did not expect to like this as much as I did. This album is crazy, has many epic moments. It felt extremely 80s but in the best way possible. I feel like this is very close to what The Clash were doing in the later years but in a different genre. I especially liked the long and epic "Welcome to The Pleasuredome" (song).
Fun listen and some classic songs. "Mama liked the Roses" was a find for me.
Nothing about this made me feel I needed to hear this before I die. Most songs felt familiar in a boring way. Some were just too much like "Jesus" and "The Murder Mystery". I'm not surprised "Candy Says" and "Pale Blue Eyes" stand out with listen count because they were really stand outs on the album for me.
The Velvet Underground two days in a row... This might make me biased. But music is biased already, I guess. I'm sorry, this was boring at times and noisy at different times. I will not be coming back to this.
Fast songs, heavy guitars, high pitch drums - what more could you want? Well, apparently different vocals. Might be the reason I never got into this band. Still liked this.
The guitars were pretty harsh and noisy but the drums were clear and beautiful. Why? The songs were not offensive, but were not memorable for me either. For example, "Hangin' with Howard Marks" starts great IMO, but goes nowhere. That's how the whole thing felt to me.
I liked "Rio", "My Own Way" and really liked "The Chauffer". The rest was kind of forgettable and repetitive.
This felt cheesy to me. I liked "Jump" and "Panama" but the rest was all crazy sex talk.
Songs I liked:
- Sunrise
- Love Vigilantes
- Elegia
Very moody, but some of it felt too soft to me. I liked it all in all.
Great song. Oh, that was the whole album? Oops.
I guess I liked the sound and the vibe and "The Model" was really good, but the rest was just fun, but not in a way that would make me want to listen to this again.
A truly great album. So soft and heavy at the same time. Today is an extremely cloudy and rainy day so this fit like a glove. Nothing about this was virtouso or show-offy - completely in the opposite direction. Definitely a revelation for me, even though I gave Radiohead a listen from time to time. I think i need to give this a proper listen and a read of the lyrics.
Favs:
- Everything in its right place
- How to disappear completely
- Idioteque
I have of course heard the hits but had no idea they fit so well inside of a cohesive album. Some surprises:
- Hoodoo
- Assassin
- Soldier's Poem !!!
Albums like these are what keep me doing this challenge.
You can just feel this was made by someone who made a lot of good music already. It has it all; hits, sad songs, deep cuts, ... I liked it.
I would not call this forgettable since I could not even remember it in the first place.
This felt surreal but raw. Kind of uncanny, I don't really know where to put it. I liked it, though.
I'm happy this was short. To me it felt they were trying really hard to sound like not trying. I understand it has a political background, but I do not care to listen to the message if the medium is boring.
This felt like I knew which hotels have the best whiskey in every major town.
Too vanilla for me. Not grunge enough, not Deftones enough, ... But a watered-down version of the two.
Meh... What else can I say? I would have to make myself come up with something. Just went nowhere and had nothing of meaning to me.
This seems like a wild experiment and a show of force. I liked some parts and some were less interesting to me. The heavier rock songs were the best to me. Seems like an album Tyler The Creator would do if he was alive in the 70s and liked rock.
I can see why it is big and there were some songs which I liked. But I still cannot get into The Beatles.
Less interesting than Kid A. More on the electronic side (or just felt like it?). Some highlights:
- Pyramid song
- I Might be wrong
- Knives Out
- Morning Bell
Some songs obviously already familiar to me. The whole album felt cohesive and meaningful. I will have to give it a listen when I have a chance to be more focused on it.
I like grime in general and this felt like a starting point to where grime went later on. I cannot say I liked all of it. Some parts I found childish and purposefully low quality made. I'm taking about all the froggy and child voices. But some songs were actually really good:
- Stop Dat
- I Luv U
- Seems 2 Be
Not a big ABBA fan. Or to put it better, not an ABBA fan at all. This album was no exception for me. Even though the sound was a bit different from what I grew to expect from them, it was not enough for me. Some outliers though:
- The Visitors
- Like An Angel Passing Through my Room
- Should I Laugh or Cry
Very fitting to get this album after ABBA. Felt like a breath of fresh air. Nothing fake about it. Listening to this makes you want to open a slightly warm beer while walking to a dusty concert with your friends who don't like to talk about jobs and relationships. Instead, they talk about the current affairs and what's wrong with the world.
A bit too hardcore punk for me, but I will give it a listen again for sure.
I never got into Nick Cave. He always seemed to pop up on every festival and my honest opinion on his performances was that they were not interesting. Just seemed like something my dad would be into.
I gave it a real listen and actually already knew a lot of these songs. I get it, he's a great writer. What I usually like is artists showing their musical skills with playing. I guess his skill is songwriting.
I listened to the album 4 times during the weekend. I might be a Nick Cave fan after all. Just not a Nick Cave concert goer.
I just don't find this interesting. Every song is like something you would hear at an older couples wedding or at the end of your high school dance. I liked "Adam Raised a Cain" and "Streets of Fire".
There were some points were Bruce started singing like a madman. But those moments were brief and soon forgotten sadly.
At least it's not some random British uninspiring noise band.
Such an amazing debut album. Even without that in mind, the opening of the albums might be one of the best ever. It had some low points for me (You Shook Me and I Can't Quit You Baby) due to their sexual nature but even those were showcases of great performances.
There is something about Led Zeppelin that is mystical and makes them sound important that I can't quite put my finger on and rarely any other bands can match.
I do not care about this. I kept wanting to skip songs which is something I promised myself I wouldn't do while doing this "challenge".
All the songs - the instruments, the singing, the mix felt small. I cannot explain it better. I kept waiting for the songs to exit the old radio effect.
The only semi-interesting songs were:
- Zurich is Stained
- Here
Wow, this was enjoyable. Nothing was predictable about it. I think this needs a couple more listens for me to form a real opinion. And I will definitely give it a couple more listens.
This is what I hope to get from this challenge. Great albums I probably have no chance of hearing on my own.
I find the Smiths like honey; fine for a taste but too much for a meal. What it lacks for me is some kind of release - a heavier or happier song. It almost happened with Death at One’s Elbow but that song was just not doing anything for me and it was too late anyway.
Too many long trumpet notes, too many bad whiney vocals.
I did not expect Meat Loaf to be this. I expect some cheesy hard rock for some reason. But I did not like it.
