Murder Ballads by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Quite jarring on first listen, especially without context and when youre unsure what to expect. Second time round when I realised what the concept of a murder ballad is I found it quite amusing. It's weird and vulgar, and I probably won't listen to it again, but it's also kinda good? Light 3 for me

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
May 23 2026

Fast Car and baby can i hold you, wow what a throwback. All time tracks

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
May 24 2026

Great title track, but otherwise faded to the background

At Newport 1960 by Muddy Waters
May 25 2026

So this is what blues is.. Not too bad!

KIWANUKA by Michael Kiwanuka
May 26 2026

After a few listens it really starts to hit different, not sure I class it as rock but it has elements of it No weak spots, just a good ol' album. Top tracks: you aint the problem, piano joint, final days, solid ground

Blur by Blur
May 27 2026

Great opening with beetlebum and song 02, but they do carry the album. Drops off slightly from there. Some gorrilaz vibes in the vocals and production on Theme from Retro and one other track I don't remember the name of. Not bad, but not great. Light 3 from me. Top tracks: beetlebum, song 2, death of a party

May 28 2026

Crazy that this is his 7th album and I'm only listening to him now properly for the first time. Easy to see why he's so iconic. Some great tracks and good album overall, but probably a bit too long. 3.5 Top tracks: Bennie and the Jets, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Saturday Night's Alright

Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
May 29 2026

My first foray into country music, and I can see the appeal. He has a great voice, it's a chill, calming, poetic sound and I think it would be amazing to listen to live, in a country bar in Dallas. Top Tracks: Time of a Preacher, I couldn't believe it was true, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Can I sleep in your arms. Red headed ranger Somewhere between a 3 and 4 so far. 18th studio album is crazy btw. Very strong 3.8 Don't cross me.

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
May 30 2026

To state the obvious, no matter how foreign an album sounds at the start, the more you listen, the better it gets, and none more so than this. Top tracks: so long marianne, hey that's no way to say goodbye, teachers

The Trinity Session by Cowboy Junkies
May 31 2026

The band name and wikepedia description is a bit of a red herring, this is good listening and not what I expected at all. Feeling a strong 3 to a light 4. Really wanna give it a 4 but will settle for 3. Top tracks : blue moon, sweet jane

Murder Ballads by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Jun 01 2026

Quite jarring on first listen, especially without context and when youre unsure what to expect. Second time round when I realised what the concept of a murder ballad is I found it quite amusing. It's weird and vulgar, and I probably won't listen to it again, but it's also kinda good? Light 3 for me

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Jun 02 2026

Aside from the first 3 tracks, not a lot to like for me. but 3 good track is still at least 3 stars in my book. OK monitor is a banger, and there's definitely more than just 3 good tracks on here, just not a real postpunk/goth rock kinda guy. 3/5 Top tracks: Spellbound, Into the Light, Arabian Knights, monitor, night shift

The Poet by Bobby Womack
Jun 03 2026

It's fine, but a bit boring. 2 Top track: if you think you're lonely now

Low by David Bowie
Jun 04 2026

Was wondering when I'd get my first Bowie. This is my first time listening to a David Bowie album and it's not at all what I expected, isn't David Bowie a generational pop/rock superstar?? Didn't he headline Glastonbury? He barely speaks in the second half of this album, but for me it's the better half.. I don't think i've repeated a track more than Subterraneans so far on this journey. Light 4. Top tracks: sound and vision, be my wife, subterraneans

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Jun 05 2026

What a fun album, amazing instrumental jazz funk vibes and good vocals too. Only 4 tracks but quite long and no filler. Solid 4 from 4 Fave track: pitche mi

Aftermath by The Rolling Stones
Jun 06 2026

Gimme this album as an instrumental and it's probably close to a 5. Paint it black and mother's little helper are saving graces

Blunderbuss by Jack White
Jun 09 2026

Surprisingly good! Preferred the more bluesy back half of this album 3/5 Top tracks: Take me with you when you go, bluderbuss

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jun 10 2026

It's a bit meh, can't lie. Couple decent tracks but I feel like there is better Neil Young to be heard. Top tracks: my my hey hey, ride my llama

Jun 11 2026

Starts very spacey and gorrilaz like, come together gives massive attack , then goes dark and orchestral and jazz like and ends a bit noisy and velvet undergroundy but a little more organised noise like as if there were 30 more years of musical advancement since velvet. Pretty good! Strong 4 out of 5 Top tracks: ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space, broken heart, no God only religion

Green by R.E.M.
Jun 12 2026

As my introduction to R.E.M, I appreciate it's a good album, but it seems like for a lot of people this album means a lot more to them than it means to me. 3/5 top tracks: pop song 89, I remember california

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jun 15 2026

Couldn't really vibe to this one. 2/5 Top track: Help Me, Car on a Hill

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Jun 16 2026

I respect it 3/5 Top tracks: Smoke on the Water, When a Blind Man Cries

Abbey Road by Beatles
Jun 17 2026

Was a little unsure about how I felt about this album in the end, but I think the A-Side is mostly pretty good, even the more whimsical and silly tracks like Octopus's Garden and Maxwells Silver Hammer. The B-Side is obviously not as strong and imo a bit random but somehow still good, it is The Beatles I suppose. Deep down I want to give it a 3, but some of these hits are undeniable, so I'll give it a 4. 4/5 Top tracks: come together, here comes the sun, I Want You (She's So Heavy), because

Hotel California by Eagles
Jun 18 2026

Came across the vinyl at the markets on the weekend, nearly bought it. Thank God I didn't, absolute snooze fest. Besides track one obviously and maybe new kid in town and wasted time (reprise) 2/5

OK by Talvin Singh
Jun 19 2026

I prefer the new Gorillaz album 2/5

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Jun 21 2026

Not too shabby, quite funny, if not a little misogynistic. 3/5 Top tracks: the girls and the dogs

Kid A by Radiohead
Jun 22 2026

Love Radiohead and love this album, but admittedly, Thom Yorke does sound a little whiny and droney at times. Amazing album nonetheless, and bookended by some absolute bangers. Everything in it's right place being a contender for best opening track ever!! 4.5/5 Top tracks: Everything in it's right place, How to disappear completely, Idioteque, Motion picture soundtrack.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Jun 23 2026

This album is like a FIFA game soundtrack, but the songs that sort of just play in the background, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, they're just no Song 02, Jerk it out, Kids etc. At the 11th hour, this went from a 2 to a 3. 3/5 Top tracks: Haiti, Une Annee Sans Lumiere, Neighbourhood #3, Crown of Love

Beyond Skin by Nitin Sawhney
Jun 24 2026

I don't understand where some of the reviews for this album have come from. This is a really nice downtempo electronic album with some great soundscapes, vocals and elements of classical, jazz, soul and hip-hop. I genuinely feel like had this album had someone else's name on it who is more prominent, the reception in here would have been very different. It's all in the first half though, second half is pretty unremarkable, but first half is good, Tides especially is some top tier stuff. Reminded me of Talvin Singh - OK which i got a couple of days ago and won the mercury prize, but i really didn't rate that album, this is miles better. 3/5 Top Tracks: Letting go, Tides, Pilgrim

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Jun 25 2026

Fully appreciate this album and Paul Simon's voice is goated and I love half the songs on this album, but it took some listening and the other half fell a little short for me and including the title track and I was gonna give this a 3 but somehow talked myself into a 4 and don't ask why. 4/5 Top tracks: El Condor Pasa, So Long Frank Lloyd Wright, The Boxer, The Only Living Boy in New York

The Idiot by Iggy Pop
Jun 26 2026

Decent David Bowie album! 3/5 Top Tracks: Nightclubbing, China Doll

B-52's by The B-52's
Jun 27 2026

Bopped my head to it more than I should for a 2 star album, so I'll give it a 3. ROCK LOBSTER! 3/5 Top Tracks: Rock Lobster, Downtown

Locust Abortion Technician by Butthole Surfers
Jun 28 2026

I don't love it, but I also don't hate it?? Way too grungy for me, but I can see why you might like it if that's your thing. First and last tracks are decent. The o-men is a bit terrifying.. 2/5 Top tracks: sweet loaf, 22 going on 23

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals
Jun 29 2026

If only the whole album was how it started. This really is a 3 star given the range of genres on show here. 3/5 Top tracks: alternate route to Vulcan street, a touch sensitive

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jun 30 2026

Finally, the first 5 star album! Was only listening to this for the first time a few months ago, and thinking it has to be one of the greatest albums ever made. It definitely is! 5/5 Top tracks: all of them

Stephen Stills by Stephen Stills
Jul 01 2026

Blues probably my least favourite style, but it ain't a bad album. 3/5 Top tracks: Love the one you're with, Cherokee

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Jul 02 2026

Pretty meh, bar the first song and the Spanish song 2.5/5 Top tracks: gotta get up, si no estas tu

Peter Gabriel 3 by Peter Gabriel
Jul 03 2026

Some cool tracks on here. Strong 3.5 3/5 Top Tracks: Start, I Don't Remember, Games Without Frontiers, Lead a Normal Life

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Jul 04 2026

Wouldn't wanna be johnny's married best friend. 4/5 Top tracks: cocaine blues, 25 minutes to go, the long black veil

The Sun Rises In The East by Jeru The Damaja
Jul 06 2026

Not quite at the level of the heavy hitters of the time, illmatic and ready to die, but still pretty good in its own right with a good amount of humour too. 3.5/5 Top tracks: mental stamina, da bichez, ain't the devil happy

Axis: Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix
Jul 07 2026

It's ok.. Also, I prefer the Chili Peppers version of Castles, but it has interested me enough to want to go down through more of his discography 3/5 Top tracks: Little Wing, Castles Made of Sand

Purple Rain by Prince
Jul 08 2026

As a first time listener, not just of this album, but of Prince as a whole, I really did not expect to enjoy this album THIS much. I'm a 90s kid so it was just before my time, and as I grew up a lot of my early music taste was consumed buy hip hop and rap. But coming back to this now, with a much wider appreciation for various genres, this was just something else, banger after banger after banger. Great opener, even greater finisher. Computer Blue maybe the only track that loses a point, but that's it. Unlike yesterdays Hendrix album, Axis: Bold as Love, here's an album that fully deserves it's place atop any of the top albums list. 5/5 Top tracks: All of them.

The White Room by The KLF
Jul 09 2026

Reminds me of some old high energy playstation 1 soundtracks or arcade racing music. 3/5 Top tracks: What time is love, Last train to trancentral

Jul 10 2026

This album is all over the place musically, I found myself physically frowning at some points while listening to it. Can't imagine anyone really liking this if they didn't already like it in their younger years. I thought the radiohead comparisons were lazy but no, it really does sound like a bad radiohead imitation attempt. 1.5/5 Top tracks: starlight

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Jul 11 2026

Another 2 star album from the stones. Good opener and closer, but even the opener is kinda mid. Top tracks: Gimme Shelter, You can't always get what you want

Document by R.E.M.
Jul 13 2026

Never thought I'd hear the term "business acumen" in rock lyrics but here we are.. Top tracks: Finest Worksong, The One I Love

Jul 14 2026

Second REM in a row and third in 48! This one is actually pretty good. 3.5/5 Top tracks: Everybody Hurts, New Orleans Instrumental

Ananda Shankar by Ananda Shankar
Jul 15 2026

First 3 songs are really lacking, but more than made up for from Mamata onwards. Top tracks: mamata, metamorphosis, Sagar

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jul 20 2026

Maybe overblown, but hardly self-indulgent, I certainly indulged in it over three days while I had the generator on pause. 4.5/5 Top tracks: Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2, Goodbye Blue Sky, Young Lust, Don't Leave Me Now, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell

Jul 21 2026

I can totally imagine how much this album would have slapped growing up in the 90s and 00s in the UK. It's an album of anthems, that I didn't fully appreciate until listening to it intentionally now. It's still just a 3.5 to me, but like i said, it would have been an easy 5 had I been born in England. 3.5/5 Top tracks: Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Jul 22 2026

pretty average. Top track: What's love got to do with it

Walking Wounded by Everything But The Girl
Jul 23 2026

Some great tracks on here, some of which are included on their new best of compilation, and some of which very easily could have. Top tracks: Before Today, Wrong, Single, Good Cop Bad Cop

Timeless by Goldie
Jul 27 2026

So many haters on here man wow. It definitely is good background music at least, probably gets better the more you listen. 3/5 Top tracks: Inner City Life - Baby Boy's Edit

From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Jul 28 2026

Thought I'd hate it, didn't hate it. Some nice tracks. Top tracks: It Keeps right on a hurtin, Gentle on my mind, In the ghetto, Suspicious Minds.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen by The Good, The Bad & The Queen
Jul 29 2026

I keep thinking it's getting good when I realise the albums finished and spotify is playing Gorillaz D-Sides which I haven't heard before. So I guess this just sounds like the E-Sides? 3/5 Top Tracks: History Song, Herculean, The Bunting Song

The Cars by The Cars
Jul 30 2026

This goes hard in the gym. I really enjoyed this. Top tracks: Just what i needed, You're all i've got tonight, Bye Bye Love, Moving in Stereo

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Jul 31 2026

Don't love grunge and I especially don't love 2 hour long grunge albums.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Aug 01 2026

Good sunday morning cleaning the house vibes. Top tracks: Le Freak, I want your love

Colour By Numbers by Culture Club

It is criminal that this has a 2.84 average.

Aug 03 2026

Really not as good as I thought I remembered. Has better albums.

Revolver by Beatles
Aug 04 2026

I preferred Abbey Road, but it was good.

Rock 'N Soul by Solomon Burke
